Unable to get rid of Notification - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After installing CM 5.0.5 I have a notification I just can't seem to get rid off.
The notification just says "Telenor SE" (which is the name of my provider) and it has a blue icon with some kind of circle in it and no matter what I do I can't get rid of it.
If I reboot the phone it disappears but as soon as I get a new notification, this one pops up again and I am stuck with it until I reboot again.
Anyone know what's causing this?

I noticed my email notification's dont always go away on CM5.0.5

Sure, you dont wanna update to 5.0.5.1 ?? and see then....

I have 5.0.5.1. The problem started with 5.0.5 and remains with 5.0.5.1

edit: empty post

Edit: Included pictures in first post instead

Is your phone plugged in to usb when you see it? try disabling USB Debugging and see if it goes away.

Hi,
No it's always there, regardless if I'm plugged in to USB or not

What happens when you press it?

Nothing, it highlights if I press down on it but nothing else happens. No information about it or anything.

What else do you have installed?
mods,...

Looks like a SIM card service (we don't use them in the US) but they are prevalent on some GSM networks.
You should have stk.apk installed for this to function beyond just a notifier (SIM Toolkit services)
AOSP has STK available to build; it's not in 2.0/2.1 by default (was in 1.5/1.6)...
See this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5901366
It could also be the topics info used on some networks for regional messaging (beyond Mobile Site ID name); I would put the sim in a known local operator phone and see if you can turn topics off.

You are definitely on to something here. I have an application called "SIM Tools" (translated from Swedish) which I assume is what you mean. In that program, I see that same blue icon all over the place, so it must be connected to this somehow. I cant remember seeing this application before either.
However, all I can do in here is check my bill and see how many text messages I've sent and a few other options, I am unable to find any way to turn the notification thing off.
I tried my old phone but it doesn't have any option to turn any topics off.

I tried ending the StkAppService and the notification disappeared, unfortunately it also had the side effect that the SIM card stopped working until I entered the code again
So it definitely has something to do with that service. There must be some way I can config it to get rid of that icon?

I am currently running with just CyanogenMod and no themes or anything else installed and the icon is still there.
The problem started with the 5.0.5 patch. I have gone through the changelog but I can't find anything that seems related to the SIM card in those notes.
It is the exact same icon I get if I don't put in a SIM card at all, so it must be trying to tell me that something is wrong with the card, but there's nothing wrong, everything is working fine.

Just bumping this to see if anyone else have an idea what this could be? Still can't get rid of it no matter what I do
Now running 5.0.5.3, not 5.0.5.1 like in the initial post

Today screen plugin for Bluetooth and Wireless

I had a Today screen plugin that I was using, and I have no idea how I got it, but I did a hard reset and now I have lost it. I'm using Sleuth 3, but it doesn't seem to be part of the ROM.
It consisted of a narrow status area that showed the name of my network operator and below that my wireless LAN status (disconnected or not) on the left, and then on the right side of the screen it showed whether my Bluetooth was on or off. I know there are probably a million plugins that look like that, but maybe somebody could point me in the right direction!
i think those both are just today screen items...go to start menu, settings, today, then the items tab. I would think its some kind of bluetooth or BT box you have to check...it depends on what type of rom your using...
~j
lol we both had the same posts....
until now
~j
I tried ticking all the available options and it never seemed to appear. I found a screenshot of someone else that was using it on the Today screen post. In the attached image, have a look at the plugin that says AT&T with WiFi and the Bluetooth symbol. Anybody recognize it?

Kaiser Tweak
Download and install Kaiser Tweak and about 3/4 way down you will find the option to enable "Wireless Today", this is what you are looking for.
It is already in your ROM you just need to tool to enable it.
Aaah, that makes sense, because I didn't remember installing it last time and I had fiddled with Kaiser Tweak. Got it back, thanks for the help!
I use a today plugin that allows me to switch BT/WiFi/Phone on/off as required - get it from http://www.paulbdesign.com/effcomm/ (the screenshot - capture0001.jpg - shows you what it looks like, so you can see what you're getting before you download it ).
It's nice and simple, doesn't use much screen real estate and it does what it says on the tin.....

i'm trying real hard but i cant see any plugin that says at&t, in fact i dont see anything on the today screen......am i even looking at a today screen? cause all i see is a naked woman
yeah, the t-mobile wing came with that today plug-in. it is labled 'TMO ONS' on the items menu.
i beleive its a built in software
It is built in - it's the Wireless Manager today applet.....
Download the attached CAB file, install it and then select "Wireless" in the list of items (you can move it up/down to get it where you want it). When you go back to your Today screen, it will be displayed.
There's a registry hack, and probably a CAB somewhere, that will allow CommManager to be launched when you tap on the Wireless plugin - you can search the Hermes Wiki for that one
Hope that helps you out....
Mark.
This is the original T-Mobile ONS cab that I got out of the Wing's extended rom. I use it on my xv6700 for Verizon and it works fine. It already links to the comm manager and the date links to
Clocks and Alarms shortcut in the settings menu.
thanks for those today screen plugins. I should mention though that they only work on htc devices.

So this isn't really a "Diamond" application, but this is the only forum I post in, and I wanted to share this so maybe other people can find it useful.
While I was checking out of the grocery store tonight, I realized I had left my "preferred savings" card in my car's glove compartment as usual. Naturally, my train of thought derailed into Windows Mobile development and how I could make my life easier. The answer was simple: why can't I save all my card bar codes on my Windows Mobile Device and have the cashier scan the image from my cell phone? It would save wallet space and be really cool to boot!
So obviously, I came home and whipped up a program to do just that. Any cards that you scan with a bar code reader can now easily be imported and stored on your phone!
Click here to read more about the Bar Code Manager and the Bar Code API.
does this work,
I thought due the the polarised nature of LCD screens they would be unreadable by most barcode readers!
I hope so! I'm going to check tomorrow when I head into the office. We have a couple bar code readers laying around.
Good idea! Unfortunately, most bar code readers won't read backlit displays
Glad you boys mentioned this!
Ive beennn doing this ever since my Nokia 7710. I caried my "ID" on my 7710. When ever I was asked fo ID i just pulled put my 7710.
Sooo yes this can be done on any Barcode-ID app.
Boys time to leave that ID home!
They wont even know the Difference with that GORGEous VGA Screen!!!!
Cheers Bradas!!!
This doesnt seem to work with my norwegian bar codes, dunno if we use another standard than you, or not.
2912340005882
157100395
2 983061310951
When entering these i get a NullReferenceException in RefreshBarCode()
WindowsLessControls.StandardBitmap.get_Width()
Weird, the first and the third number worked for me (try redownloading the CAB). The program really only supports 12 digit bar codes though (UPC). I haven't written in support for other formats yet (Code 39, etc).

Doesn't seem to want to work with my cooked ROM. I get 'An unexpected error has occurred in WMBarCode.exe. Select Quit and then restart this program.'
And when I restart, I get the screen in the image.
Anyone else confirm this?
A nice next step would be to scan the barcodes with the onboard camera.

I have the SAME problem as this. Running Tilt 2 with 6.5 stock rom
Does this require anything other than the cab for download at the link?
says "Download the Bar Code Manager and API here"
What is the API? I REALLY want to use this app
I have installed this and typed the number from a store card. Where do I type the name for the card? After typing in the number in the one edit box the barcode, on screen, does not resemble the barcode on the card. If I type any text in the edit box I get "An unexpected error has occured in WMBaeCode.exe" NullReferenceException
Help!
Same stuff happening here on ever rom ive tried. I really want sometihng like this
Can someone post a mirror? The website linked is not working.
Do you think you can provide a slightly better tutorial on how to set up your cards. I can't get any of mine to work, and not all grocery store cards are 12 digits. Any way you can add support for those?
Great program, I've been using it for a long time now and I don't know if there's any development on this, but it would be great for it to support 2D codes too. Thanks

[Q] New Voice Search with Commands question

Sorry, I know that there are explanations on other device forums, but I can not for the life of me make this work and its driving me mad.
Someone please tell me if I have to have data plan to do this and it will save everyone a lot of time.
I use titanium to remove the google search/voice search/voice dialer
reboot
install new google search/voice search from here: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=753097 (which is the only place I could find the apks.) and it should work as everyone has said... but every time it gives me connection error. Does it really need internet access to send a text message??? Generally it wont even let me finish talking before it says it.
Am I screwed by not having a data plan, or is there a way around this?
I am using vogue with incubus's 2.2 super froyo rls 12.
Thanks for your time.
I dont know the new voice commands.
But usually it uploads your recorded voice, than the google servers will try to find out what you said and than give you back the text or now the text and the actions the phone has to do.
So you need data for voice commands but not for sending a sms or something.
Correct me if im wrong.

Unfortunately, it DOES require a data connection...
But for anybody who has data, here's how I got it working...
No need to uninstall/remove anything
- Install/Update "Voice Search" from the Market. I couldn't get Google Search to install.
- Open Voice Search.
- When the window appears with the things you can say it doesn't show the whole window. I think there's 2 buttons at the bottom that you can't see. How I got past this was to press Down 4 time, Left once. This will select the "ok" or whatever button, and you won't have to do it anymore.
EDIT: Here's the pic I posted in the other thread to help anybody else.

THANK YOU. You just made my weekend. I couldn't figure out how to get past this
Another way around the startup dialog is to start it in landscape mode. The dialog fits in landscape mode. But I'll try to fix the portrait dialog with some apktool magic anyway.

T-Mobile APN issue/Question

The only thing I manually added and as shown - currently selected is the "Fix" - APN to enable Wi-Fi MMS pic send/receive which seems to work fine as found in another thread in these forums.
Here is my question. Should ALL these APN's be in my phone as follows:

I am on a ROM and not sure if they came with it or I somehow got them in otherwise.
One of the reason's I ask is that my girlfriend's T-Mobile Avant first off, only has ONE T-Mobile APN period in this section.
2nd reason is she is complaining of getting duplicate texts from my phone (both text & MMS pic sends) from time to time so I am wondering if this is due to having so many APN's as noted in above screenshot?
Thanks
Pic is not showing
Bump!
I'm bumping this cause I am interested in the answer too. I think my WiFi Calling is messing up...
Pic still not showing and since op never came back he probably figured out his rom was the issue.. As Tmobile stayed many times mms over WiFi will only work over WiFi calling. If ur trying to say it still sends it cause it sending thru mobile data still.
BAD ASS NOTE 4
Apologize as I have no idea what happened to the pic from my OP. I will check my phone but believe I have since deleted it. Sure it's in my email somewhere as I usually send it to myself after taking a screenshot from one gmail account to the other.
Anyhow, I have resolved my issue by moving on to a different ROM. I will gladly share my current APN if helpful to anyone.
Still having issues with T-Mobile's Network itself, a whole different story, but can confirm that I have "WiFi Calling" & "MMS over WiFi" functional now. :good:

Go to the apn setup, do a reset to default on the apns, then a couple of tmo apn will show up, next, use the one that works best for you, and simply remove the others.
Good luck!

Question status bar icon question

could you guys tell me what this icons means? to be more preceise what the small 2 above the phone icon... seems to be linked with "auto data switching" because it disappear when I disable that. also seems to be android 12/one ui4 because I always had this setting and never seen the icon.
P.S. only visible if wifi is off

The icon indicates that your phone is using SIM 2 for Mobile data. If you disable auto data switching, it'll go back to using SIM 1 for Mobile data provided you've selected it as the preferred SIM in settings.
Well... Not... default data is SIM2 always, no matter of this setting.
It seems that that one appears because 1st SIM is using data from 2nd one for "data calling". Thought this would happen only if no carrier signal but it seems not. Saying this because noticed the lockscreen network info saying something with using the other line data for calls... Could catch it because...Now it disappeared completely and all back to normal...
Think I figured it out. It looks indeed to be an indicator that line 1 works through data connection of line 2 (via WiFi calling method). I forced today line one to be out of coverage (tried manual registering to another network) and now, when there is no coverage, the sign mentioned in first post is back.
So looks like for whatever reason the other day I was out of coverage for sim 1. Weird though, considering both sim are same operator.
You can see in the attach it says it uses back up data

Do you still have this phone? Any chance you can use adb to check what setting is changed when the "Auto Data switching" toggle is switched on and off?
