Battery not recognized and will not charge - Touch Diamond CDMA

I have searched the Internet and forums for days and can't find a solution to my problem. I have found a few with the same problem, but no solutions. Please help!
I have a Sprint HTC Touch Diamond 6950SP (DIAM500) running the original ROM. A few months ago and for no apparent reason, it stopped recognizing the battery and stopped accepting a charge. I haven't messed with the phone in any way or attempted to load a new ROM. The Power Status screen simply shows, "Main battery: Unknown". Plugging the phone in with the supplied charger will actually discharge the battery and the circular LED does not come on. I tried several soft and hard resets; then I downloaded and flashed the ROM with the one from the Sprint web site (WM 6.1 Professional 5.2.20764/Build 20764.1.4.3), but nothing seemed to help. I found that I could get the battery to charge by removing the battery (with the phone plugged into the charger) and then putting it back in. When the circular LED flashes twice, I remove the battery and wait till it flashes two more times, and then put the battery back in. This takes many attempts, and eventually the LED continues to flash and will charge the battery. I did this for a long time while I searched for a solution, and one day, it just started working again!!! The phone worked great for several months and suddenly, it has started doing the same thing again.
I decided to upgrade to WM 6.5 and downloaded all the necessary applications, (many thanks to XDA and friends). But, when I attempted to flash my ROM, it stopped and indicated that my battery was too weak - even though I new it had a full charge, (see battery status, above). I've checked the battery with a multimeter, therefore, I know it has a full charge. I don't have any other problems with the phone, nor do I have any problems with it sincing to my computer. I have since ordered a new battery, but it hasn't arrived yet. Someone please help.
Thanks.

I have read at other posts that the Diamond's battery has a recognition chip in it. Also, without the battery, it will not run from the charger. Could the chip in the battery be bad? Has anyone else had this problem?

Is there a registry fix (or tweak) for the battery status? Please, one of you must know something about this.

Got my new battery - the phone does not power up, charge or anything else with the new battery. I tried charging the new battery with the method I've tried before, (see above), but it won't even light the circular LED. I checked the new battery with a multimeter, and it shows it has 3.7 volts. Now what? Any ideas would be appreciated.

that happened to me for a little while. idont know what it was but it wouldnt charge using the usb cable to any computer or even the a/c adapter but it would charge with another wall charger i had. after a couple days a friend had his psp over and i charged my phone with his cable on my computer like nothing and after wards it all worked again

Thank you so much for your reply!!!

I have tried other cables and chargers, but none have helped. Last time my phone started working properly, I had plugged it in to my computer, but that hasn't happened this time. Thanx for your comments - keep 'em coming.

I purchased a new charger/docking station for my phone and spare battery. It wouldn't charge my phone or the new battery I purchased either. The new battery still will not work in my phone - paper weight! The charger does charge my old battery, though. Does anyone know if you can run a Touch Diamond from the USB/charging cable without the battery installed? Mine won't, but I was wondering if it should.

Hey man
you know that happend to me when i first flashed my diamond for metro i bought a new battery and nuthing changed so what i did was a hard reset and it fixed it for me but i dont know thats just me and if u want to try it make sure u back up ur contacts with PIM backup hope u fixe it

Thanks, Krzynate! I tried that already, many times now, (see my first post in this thread). Thanks anyway and please keep the posts coming.

I had the same problem.. I ended up buying a new battery and it wouldn't charge in my phone. So I ordered an external charger from EBAY for 10$. My new battery is charging so It might be the solution you are looking for.

Thank you so much for posting! As I wrote previously,
(I purchased a new charger/docking station for my phone and spare battery. It wouldn't charge my phone or the new battery I purchased either. The new battery still will not work in my phone - paper weight! The charger does charge my old battery, though.), this did not fix my problem. The vender that sold me the new (bad) battery is sending me another one - hopefully, it will work this time.

It's Fixed!!!
I wrote the Internet store where I purchased the non-working battery. They sent me another battery and now it's fixed!!! The battery indicator and status all recognize the new battery! Apparently, there is a recognition chip in the battery; the original battery's chip's software became corrupted, and the other "new" battery's chip was blank. The original battery still works, (as long as I charge it with the external charger), and still has an unrecognized status in WM 6.1. Please pass this info on to others that have simular problems. Thanx XDA!

No Battery, stuck at tri-color screen

I was flashing my phone repeatedly last night. I've read the forums and have done about 4 successful flashes already. The problem is, I've found a WM6 rom for the Wizard that I wanted better than the ROM already inside my phone, and I proceeded to flash it. But I left the computer and phone by itself so that I could rest a bit (I've spent hours in front of the computer flashing my phone), and fell asleep. When I woke up, I noticed that the flashing failed, and it was at the tri-color screen. Then, it died on me. No battery, obviously, being stuck at the tri-color screen the whole night. Now, it doesn't charge or turn on. I know I just need a battery to run the phone. But where I'm from, batteries for the Cingular 8125 are rare, and I'm one of the few that has an 8125.
I don't know anyone who has a battery for the 8125, and there's nowhere to buy from here. Any recommendations?
First of all be sure that you haven't flashed a G4 ROM in a G3 device (or vice-versa) which would have made it a brick.
In case you haven't screwed up the bootloaders then look for the battery jump start thread that teaches how to revive a dead battery
good luck

First os all your Wizard is not a brick. To revive your battery try using a wall charger to charge you battery, or you can leave it attahed to a wall charger for some time and it should start charging after 10-15 mins (becoz one i got a dead battery and did the same) Once the battery is revived then flash it to a Official ROM, afterwards any custom ROMs or what so ever. I hope i helped. TC
i've the same problem!!! i leave the phone attached the whole night to the charger...but it was in bootmode, so it doesn't charge!!! it hasn't the power to flash my phone...when it arrives to the 85% (when the phone write into the flash memory) it reboots.....what must i do? i tried to jump start...with a 12v adapter...but nothing....
It won't charge in Bootloaders,as it doesn't provide any charging circuit .The phone must have and boot up to a working OS (Windows) to start charging, only then it has a charging circuit.
Try to get a fully charged batter ,may be borrow it from a friend or try to charge your battery with friends phone, flash a rom and only it'll start to charge.
i know....but...i have not a friend with a ppc like mine!!!! and even if i'll buy a new battery....how can i charge it????? a friend of mine has a qtek 9000....but the battery is different from mine.......

No need to buy a battery i say you use a External Battery Charger. Because even buying it would be cheaper then the battery itself and would help you in future too. I hope i helped. TC

Thanks, dude. I never even tried charging it with the wall charger. There seems to be other people that have the same problem as I do. Now my phone is up at the tri-color screen, and I'm charging it, then Ill start flashing again. Thanks again!

@ianestradalives's as zabardast_1's has said, your phone WILL NOT CHARGE unless windows Boots. Either buy a new battery or find someone with the same phone or an Orbit(as they use the same battery) also if you buy a new battery it generally arrives with enough charge to use for flashing(It did for me anyway). The only other way to do it would be to buy a dock with a second battery charging slot. Using the wall charger wont do anything except stop it from restarting ,while its plugged in.
@XDA2_haseeb why point people who have the same problem to this thread, if the answer you have given is incorrect?

Dude, sorry to disappoint you, but his advice was correct. My phone is now up and running, and it has NBD 9.2. The advice he has given is correct. It works.
Ok,was your phone in Bootloaders (muliticolor screen) or with a working OS installed on it when you charged with a wall charger ?
That's exactly what was i was about to ask Zabardast_1
As there is no way he could charge his phone while it is in bootloader mode. He either had battery power already in it and messed up the flash or you have just been lucky when you took the battery out of the unit and reinserted it and there was enough power left to flash

In bootloader screen. If you were flashing a rom and it failed, you usually end up in the tri-color (aka "Bootloader") screen. Do what haseeb said (like I did) and plug your wizard to a wall charger and wait for a few minutes. When I plugged mine, it immediately lit up. Good hunting!

Nope. I'm sure the battery was drained. The other night, my phone was in the bootloader screen THE WHOLE NIGHT. And yesterday, I tried reflashing, but it won't start anymore because of - obviously - no battery power.
IF you don't believe me, fail a flash and drain the battery. Then plug it into the wall. It really works.
scousemartin
YUP! thats very true.
The question here is 'How did he charge in Bootloaders with a wall charger',it has to have a working OS on it to start the charging circuit, which isn't present while in Bootloaders.
Flashing is a separate issue.
it will light up as it has power but it WONT CHARGE IT. You were LUCKY that's all and you had power in your battery. You just never realised it. If you want to prove us wrong let the battery go low and then try your revival attempt again. I guarantee you will be buying another battery or charging it somewhere else
also i have been through this personally with my xda mini-s and the only remedy was to buy another battery (or recharge it). You could leave your phone connected to the wall charger for a week and it wont make a blind bit of difference to the battery level. I know because i tried.
Anyway glad you got it sorted ,but the solution to your problem was not charging the phone. Thats all i have to say on this matter now

It did get sorted. But I am really sure about the battery thing. I guess this is an anomaly. Besides, the XDA is different from a Wizard.
lol the xda mini-s is exactly the same device a 8125 is, they re both wizards

Reboots after I remove the batter

What the heck is going on?
I'm pretty sure this has nothing to do with the ROM, because it did this with the factory ROM, Manila 2d and now WM6.5.
I turned the phone off, unplugged it, removed the battery. I put the battery back in, replace the cover and press the power button. Nothing happens. I plug the phone back in to the wall charger and put power, it turns on....for about 3 seconds then reboots and it would seem that it will do this for as long as I let it go. If I unplug the phone while this is going on, it will die.
The last time this happened, it took it about a day and a half to sort itself out. It almost seems like its a battery issue.
Any thoughts or ideas?
UPDATE!
I took the sim card out of the phone for a few seconds and the phone seems to be working now.... But its been up and running for about 20 minute now with no sings of acting up.

tried to charge the pda all night the light stayed orange and never turned green indicating full charge. tried hard reset and when it goes in to prepare rom it shuts off like dead battery. when i plug in the pda to charge battery and then turn on the phone it freezes on splash screen. if i turn on phone then plug in to charge it acts like i havn't pluged in charger. is it the pda or battery?
I am not 100% sure on this, but to me it sounds like the battery.. and that is a MUICH cheaper option to test out... unfortunatly you ahveto wait for shippng typicalyl unless you have a friend who has the same phone.. I got 2 backups and a stand alone charger now... The other option could be your USB port... I have not heard this specific problem with them.... but I am a PC tech and have seen very simmilar problems with laptops... Usually the first think to for is the power port... Just like out phone, if the device is not on a flat surface and such when it is plugging it, it tweaks the port and it eventualyl breaks... on laptops it is not uncommon that when plugged in, the LEF wil light up saying it is getting power to charge, but it enver charges the battery, and even sometimes can;t power up the full system.. .It sort of sounds like this is what you phone is doing as well.. .If that is the problem the stand alone charger would work (my son broke off his usb all together and now syncs via bluetooth and jsut changes batteries.. he has 3 himself as well) If you search online, you can usualyl find a kti with a battery or 2 and a charger/dockign station for under $20US total. Good luck!

tried bootloader and installed official att rom and never shut off. when it was finished with install same issues appeared. help
For anyone facing this issue I would not recommend wasting money on a new battery as this issue has been around with few users since the Kaiser "Tilt" first came out and I've never seen ANY reports that a new battery fixes this. People have bought new batteries, fully charged their battery from a docking station, tried their friends fully charged battery all with the same result. I had this power down issue a Looong time ago my first week in with the Kaiser and managed a fix and am using the same battery now. Although it seems the battery is not being fully charged it's important to leave it charging until you'd assume it's fully charged and get into bootloader mode and flash an official htc Tytn 2 rom. It should flash completely, and the fact that it does not die immediately as on normal boot indicates it is not the battery but the rom. It did take me the whole afternoon of Flashing, recharging and repeating before it finally kicked in. Also, from reading older posts, it seems most if not all users like myself fixed this by flashing the older official htc wm 6.0; worth a shot at least.

Yup, that is what I had to today (I hard reset, actually), with barely enough battery life to do this.
Then the bloody unit came up and was charging - amazing, really!
(Was using the official HTC 6.1 upgraded WindowsMobile OS)
here is my 2 cents....
I owned five Tilts, replaced four of them with warranty issues ... so i have faced this dilemma on at least two of them.
First see if the USB tongue is loose. To do this try to gently tap it with the stylus. If the tongue inside the USB port is loose then you will be facing rebooting and other issues and troubles in the future. The USB tongue gets used and jerked every time you connect your device to your PC or wired headset. If you are still under warranty and the USB connector tongue is loose I recommend returning the phone ( if you still can) and getting a replacement. There is no easy fix for a loose USB connection tongue as i have taken one apart and it is very difficult to repair or replace and very easy to mess it up further.
So, my advice to all Kaiser owners... be careful when plugging and unplugging your phones through the USB. Do it gently as the connectors are very fragile.
For those that have the above issues, I recommend using a separate battery charger tray, avoid plugging the USB as much as you can, and if you must, then administer extra care. The rebooting will stop if you plug the USB cable to the device and move it up and down a hair then holding steady. And most likely you will not get a full charge or even a partial charge. The biggest culprit to this problem is car chargers, and second, is inserting the stylus by mistake (when it is dark and hard to see) in the USB port instead of the Reset hole by accident.

G1 Not Charging !!! Help

Ok guys i hope some one can help with this ...It all started yesterday when i tried to charge my phone. it kept saying charging at 0% and it stood like that for hours. so i tried another charger & battery and the same thing. I even called t-mobile and they told me i could be a hardware problem, so i was woundering if theres any chance it could still get fixed ??? i am willing to pay if anyone can fix my phone i am located in los angeles pm me if your up to it .
thanks in advance.. if phone is not fixable i will be selling it for parts!!
Tmobile should give you a replacent! Free of charge.
and umm have you tried taking out the battery leaving out for a minute or 2 and then putting it back and trying to charge it?
That is correct.
So long as you are still under warranty, T-Mobile will issue you a replacement phone.
However, if you have any root/modded firmware, you may want to revert back to Stock.
ya i called t-mobile and they said that since i bought the phone off a friend that it void the waranty ...so im stuck with a bad g1 till i get another one and or sell this one for parts...how much would you guys say its worth for parts it works but it has to be plug in at all times>
Not sure if you have access to this, but you may want to try switching out the batteries with a friend. If that doesn't work, go to any T-Mo store and tell them you need to test the battery/phone.
If it works on a new battery, your solution is there. Buy a new one for about $20-$50
It's worth a shot, considering you'd be selling someone a good phone for cheap, lol.
Same Problem
Hello, I also have the same problem with it charging. The usb port seems to work, I bought a new battery and it still doing the same thing. So I built a charger that I can just stick the battery in and I just swap them out. The phone shows the orange light and also says it is charging but it does not charge the battery.

Buy a stand-alone battery charger. Search google for "g1 battery charger" and buy a product similar to this: http://www.netimes.com/shop/desktop-cradle-with-2nd-battery-charger-for-google-g1-p-1506.html
There is probably something wrong with the charging circuit inside the phone and this *should* be a decent work-around for it.
I had this problem with my old HTC Wizard... I just hacked the end off a usb cable and taped the 5v line to the battery terminals to charge it.
I am NOT recommending this as a solution.. but I still have both hands and a functional face.
Ive been having the exact same issue with my G1 phone since updating to the latest Cyanogen rom. Im not saying that the ROM caused the issue, but that the issue developed on the same day I did the update.
I contacted T-Mo and they have shipped me a brand new phone. I had to un-root and go back to the stock ROM, but that was not big deal.
It was definitely an issue with the charging circuit. I have two G1's and was able to charge the battery in the spare phone.
Can anyone help me with my issue. i had a old battery on my g1 that got expanded and wouldnt hold a charge for that long it would just die. Now i bought 2 new batteries and charged them till they were full. Now when the phone dies and i plug in the charger to charge the new batteries they do not charge. I have to put my old expanded battery charge it till its green take the old battery out then put the new one in and then it the led will come on saying its charging. When I try and charge the new batteries when the phone is off it says its charging but the percentage doesnt go up. Anyone have a reason why these batteries wont charge while on, and the only way they will charge when off is if i put the old expanded battery in first charge then charge the new ones. Im running a rooted g1 on 1.6, I just dont understand why I cant charge the new batteries when the phone is on, or when its off unless i use that method. ANy help would be appreciated and thanks in advance.
Oh yea I have had the phone since launch and im sure the warranty is expired.
You have to change the phone motherboard. Its a hardware problem.
Only solution : Send it for a replacement!
Also my phone is dying fast with the new battery the display and idle is eating it up. I know I can reset my battery stats but when i reset them at 100% i cant reboot and charge to 100% because the phone wont charge while on......Do you guys think if i got a external wall charger i could charge the batteries and they would work. My phone might be reading my old battery stats thats why it doesnt last that long even on new battery
I had the exact same problem, my phone would charge when i plugged it in to the pc but not in the OEM wall charger, so i bought a usb wall charger adapter and used my pc data cable plug and it worked perfectly. Ebay sells them for 4-6 bucks with an additional pc plug, just search htc g1 wall usb adapter charger.
I understand that much time has left, but I have the same problem, the phone is not charging(but 'speaks' that charging is going on). I don't know about the others, but I have noticed that phone can charge in fastboot mode. It charging very slow and I think it because the screen is always on and white(Spl: 1.33.0013d).
It charges only after a strict sequence of actions:
1. When the phone is off turn it to fastboot(power+back)
2. Wait for several secconds.
3. Plug in charger wire.
There is no result in other sequences. I have measured the battery by voltmeter and voltage is truly rising. But LED is off while charging and also phone is warming.
Like others, I tried to change batteries and chargers with no results.
It looks like many users have the same problem, and maybe it can be solved by software methods.
At least maybe there is some way to charge it like in fastboot, but with screen off? It would be more faster.
I've tried to use some programs like battery calibrator, but they are not purposed for such things.
try leaving the battery out for a while, than put it in device and d not power on, plug in the charger and let it charge for a couple hours, than boot into recovery and wipe battery stats, reboot and see if anything changes...

I've tried doing so, but it doesn't charge at all while the power if off(but LED is RED). Although I have wiped battery stats now and many times before after 100% charging in fastboot mode with no result.
The question is in difference between charging in fastboot mode and other modes.Maybe someone knows this difference and will help with this problem.
It doesn't charge in recovery mode, while the power is off, when the power is on (system says that it is charging but the percents are going down), and in all of this states LED is working well(Green, Orange, Red). In fastboot mode the LED is off but the charging is going on. Maybe there is a way to emulate fastboot charging mode in system drivers.
By the way, I have changed several ROM's after problem has appeared. Now it is COS-DS(07192011).
I hope that someone will help me and other users who have this problem.
hmmm, wow that is strange... could possibly be a hardware issue... doesn't sound like anything a custom rom would cause, hope you can find an answer to your issue

Battery problem

Hey guys.I just got my Xperia X1 and I noticed that even if I charged my phone to 100% after I unplug the cable (I use my USB cable to charge it) that battery meter goes to 95% the second I unplug it.If I send a text or two it will go lower.By the end of the day it will be around 50-60% left.I tried looking for a fix about that but nothing came up.
Is that a common problem for the X1?BTW the phone is brand new and the battery is the original one that came with the phone.
Thank you in advance
First I think you must charge your (new?) battery at least ten times to get full capacity. Secondly I think I remember there's a way to calibrate the battery. Look in settings or even better the manual or perhaps best, search the forums.
GL,A.D
Thank you for your answer.I checked the forum but not much came up about recalibration.I checked the phones settings and I can't find anything about batery calibration
are you on a stock rom or a custom one?
also if you leave your xperia plugged in once it reaches 100% i believe it simply stops charging, so the moment you unplug it you "real" battery percentage!
No I am using a custom ROM.I always unpluged the phone when it says full next to the battery metter.
thats why I don't like charging via USB - it's unreliable and slow, always was
if someone knows how to solve that with a recalibration pls tell
I think its a problem of usb charging. I get this problem when I charge my phone with usb. I havent had this problem on charger. Maybe you usb is a bit lower voltage, so the battery isnt fully charged, but its not charging anymore so the percentage is set to 100% and rapidly decreases after short usage.
I think if you use a charger and do charge your batter a few times full with charger, the memory effect should go away.
Just correcting lpgsk, it's not the voltage, but the electric current of the USB. If I'm not wrong the charger has a 500mA current.
charger output 700mA @ 5v
My suggestion is, if you have to charge it on USB, you should charge it when its off. The charging current should he higher since part of the energy wont be used to keep mobile standby. Therefor it should be able to get more power to battery.
2nd option, buy USB mini Y-cable. It is 1 miniUSB -> 2 USB cable. So you put the other end to 2 USB slots for more power.
like this:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB-A-Male-to-Mini-5-Pin-Y-Cable-for-external-hard-Disk_W0QQitemZ330414581897QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Computing_USB_Cables?hash=item4cee3e6889
this could help, but no waranty it would

It must have been my memory who failed me this time. I can't find any way to calibrate battery either. Sorry for that!
Saw that you're running on a custom rom so I guess the phone is not brand new. Question raised is, how old is the battery?
Searched Ebay for whatever to my x2 and found the batteries (same in X1/X2) damn cheap (fakes or not). Why not buy a new battery and test?

Hey there. The phone was brand new when I got it.It came with the standard WM 6.5 I just installed a new ROM.I tried charging via the wall charger and it seems that the battery lasts WAY longer then charging throw the USB cable.
Thanks a lot guys
PS:One thing (has nothing to do with the battery but I don't want a new thread for that). All my received text messages are with a different time then my phone.I would say around 3-5 hours difference.I searched online and I found more people with this problem but I cannot find a fix for it.Any suggestions?
Thanks again to all of you that answered
Anyone??!!

Extended battery not charging

Hey guys,
I have just brought a new extended battery and cover for my HTC HD2, i got it deliveried this morning, turned the phone off and changed the batterys. i then put it on charge while the phone being turned off, to give it a full charge. The light for charging starts, but then after 30 secs it flashes one orange light then a green one, which suggest its not charging. I have tried charging it via the computer and still get the same problem
Can anyone help me as to what the problem actually is?? as if it is the battery i will order a new one.
Kind Regards
Shane
Ive just put my old battery back in, (standard one) and it seems to be charging fine. does this mean the battery i have is faulty, I have herd sometimes when they havnt been used they dont charge but after using and charging it works.
I need to sort this out as soon as because of trying to return the for another one??
i have the same problem with my spare battery i bought it only charged once and after that it only flashes orange and green. the only solution i found is charging it with my craddle in the spare battery slot (which doesnt work anymore for some reason it doesnt charge either battery so its probably the craddle thats bad so make sure you buy a good one and thats compatible to your hd2 version)or having your phone off while charging. which sucks if you use your phone as an alarm because you have to up in the middle of the night just to switch batterys and miss any late night calls if you know what i mean

Have exactly the same problem. Old battery charges fine, new extended doesn't.
Did you find any solutions? Is it a fault on the extended battery?
Hi guys
I am having the same problem, new extended battery and does not charge just getting the flashing led's, normal battery charges ok!! charge from mains or computer is gives the same result....any ideas???
I had this problem, i was running the stock rom (02 ireland) flashing red and green not charging with the extended battery (official), i fixed it by flashing a new rom.
that tells me its a software issue as the original battery would charge fine and the extended had the issue.

yes its a software issue and if your provider wont let you use the rom update on the htc site then i think until they bring a new rom out for eg.vodafone we are stuffed....
Older ROMs don't support the extended battery.
