HOWTO enable swap
First you need a terminal emulator this can be downloaded for free in the android market.
You can use cd to change directory and ls to show all folders and files.
Navigate to the place where the swapfile is located (mmcard) and type swapon swapfile.
reboot
Turn off locks screen when holding red call button
Spare parts>End button behaviour>Nothing

Press the right soft button.

It does same as end button (no sleep, just shutdown options)
Also, which hw keyboard layout to choose, to have numbers like shown on HW KB? I cant type numbers because they are at random position.

hello
i wanna let my phone to sleepmode too
but when i push the button the display goes black but and not switch off
hes not really sleeping then

In my post i meant sleep mode as far as is done (black screen with backlight).

ok but i want that the screen go off
no backlight
it can´t at the moment ???

This post is helpful, but I got one problem, when I try to download the terminal emulator from the market, it only hangs on starting download. And yes, I'm connected to a wi-fi network

I also get this issue.
Seems that the first time you download something, it wont work, it will get stuck on "Starting Download", and it doesn't come up in the notifications.
Just restart the phone and boot android again then second or third time it will eventually work.
This also happens if you press install then your 3G connection drops out (went through a tunnel) and even when u get a siginal again, it just sits there on "Starting" so you have to cancel it and start it again.
But with the one via WiFi and browsing the market and everything else works, just restart the phone and boot android again, and it should automatically start the download. If not, just go back into the marketplace then go to the "Downloads" section and start it again.
Its a bit annoying.

The new release is very nice, slick and stable. My major problem is the same, backlight can't be turned off and thus battery used up quickly. Hope this can be fixed soon.
Another related problem is the battery seems not charged under Android, I charged it overnight, quick get warning of low battery just after using it for 10 min.
Even so, still a very good job, thank you.

battery charge sensor doesn't work properly in xperia android, so just because android is reporting low battery doesn't mean your battery is actually low

have you tried this ?
on thread HOWTO run ANDROID on X1 by vdelf
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=650559
it states.
4. go to conf/ and delete eclair.user.conf, then rename eclair.user.conf~ to eclair.user.conf. That will disable the swapfile.

I actually did this, so i got to recopy the files over, and then wait for the swap file to be created?
When I'm using a swap file, it get faster right?

swapfile makes android slower, but it increases available memory

can someone please tell me what it says in the blue box displayed in the picture - ive been on 3 computers but i still cant manage to read it

SetCPU

Just installed SetCPU and noticed the clock scaling was set to "conservative"...
I set it to "ondemand" and it crashed.
Interesting.
Also interesting is my home button doesn't work anymore. It happened after I installed 3 apps, but I can't put my thumb on what exactly caused it.
I installed a game called ArchMage, ShootMe (which works pretty well for screenshots btw), and SetCPU.
EDIT: After a Reboot, everything seems to be running fine. I did notice the stock kernel only has three clock steps, 300, 600, and 800.

SuperUser worked fine on initial launch so it has full root.
I used the autodetect setting.
One thing I did notice is the bogoMIPS measured by linux is 796 on the NC, while it's 738 on my Nexus One.
FYI, you can take screenshots by holding down N and pressing Vol Down... The files are saved to the media/my files/screenshots folder IIRC

Have you correctly installed Superuser and rebooted the nook?
FYI, Since the kernel is not set to allow undervolt/overclock, we cannot fo that. SetCPU was one of the first things I loaded on my NC after rooting/su.

I know... but you can change the default governor from "conservative" to "on demand" with 600mhz as minimum to get a significant performance boost with minimal battery impact. My NC has been on for 5 hours today so far and batter is at 62%. Played several games and spent a lot of time browsing the web.

AFAIK there in no adb support without the rooting process being complete. You can check if your device is rooted if you connect your nook and run adb shell, you should notice a #(which indicates root) sign awaiting your commands.
Setcpu wasn't working properly for me either after following the process. I just ended up uninstalling and reinstalling the Superuser apk.

Can you explain how you uninstalled and reinstalled it? I don't see it installed at all. Thanks.
Can we set it to run at 800Mhz? How is the performance on that? If I can get around 5 hours of battery life, it'll be fine.

it only has 3 steps on the freq table... 300, 600, and 800. after locking the nc to stay at 800 all the time, it does speed everything up quite a bit. whatever you do don't check the set on boot option, as something could easily go awry.

Yes. It is installed.
So for the "on demand" the minimum should be 600...should max be 800?
Also, if I do not check "on reboot" does it default to something else?
P.S. what is the Nook running at natively?

[Q] HELP random square/rectangle on home screen because of facebook/fb messenger???

A long time galaxy nexus user here, and since i think facebook 2.0 or 1.9 there have been a random rectangle the pops up when pressing back two times in a row from the firends list. Now i thought it was just my nexus, but now on the One i've been getting it too. Its easy to avoid but still annoying. Using ARHD rom. With latest facebook app.
From sense, I enter the facebook app/ fb messenger app, click the the freinds list / online tab scroll down to see who's online, press back twice to go to home screen then bam! A random reactangle appears. Now i can avoid this by pressing back once and scrolling through the timeline/ conversation list on facebook or anything inbetween the 1st back press and second back press (if you know what i mean)
Anyone at all can reproduce this?

Have you looked at Facebook settings?
I can't find the option now, but it was "chat heads" or something.
I have no idea what that is, but in response to BenPope, I use chat heads and no they don't do that at all.
It happens to me for some reason. I just open the facebook / messenger app. Click on the friends tab. Press back twice and then a rectangle appears.so strange

Can you guts tell me what widgets you're using or your home screen set up ? Thank you!
I tried reproducing what you said, nothing happens. It's odd that you say it happened on your nexus aswell, which would make me think its not a common bug but instead some app that you personally use which is interfering with facebook and causing the rectangle to form. Look around, close background processes and then see if it happens.
And if worst comes to worst..only click the back button....once.

Do you have any old phone laying around which you do reset and try on without any other apps?
I've seen this before too. It simply means the icon is selected. If we had hardware keys, hitting enter would open it. I don't quite know how to remove it though. Does tapping somewhere other than the icon deselect it?

If youre rooted and got custom recovery, make a nandroid and then factory reset your phone and try it out. Thatll tell you if the app itself has a glitch, or if its because of your setup of the phone

As in the friends list in the top right corner? Yup. I use teh fb messenger app to reporduce it. its faster haha.
So I have a shortcut either in my social folder or just an icon on the main homescreen, open app, slecect the top right corner online firends tab, wait to see the green dots, then press back twice .
Thanks!
Nothing. I did it slow, fast, but nothing happens, I return to the home screen. I just flashed a new ROM as well (paranoid) bit it didn't work on ARHD either. So I'm guessing it definitely has something to do with your phones setup. Something that you had on your nexus and have on this phone as well.

Galaxy Gear ring and vibrate even if the phone is in blocking mode

Hi,
I was wondering if I'm the only one but I noticed a pretty annoying bug (or at least it looks like it is). Let say you have the Blocking Mode setup on your phone (S4, S3 or Note ) from say 10PM to 7AM then no notifications will ring on the phone, in fact the phone is silent. This is awesome and let me sleep in peace (I work in a global company where my inbox never stop to ring) but the Galaxy Gear is still getting notifications and ring/vibrate which is terribly annoying. You have to either manually put it to "Vibrate" and then remove the watch (Unfortunately I feel when It vibrates during the night and it wakes me up) or you have to simply switch off the watch.
Anybody have the same problem? Known workaround?

You know I always assumed that it would work exactly the way you imagined it would; so in fact I was finding it funny the Pebble needed a "Do not Disturb" mode. But, after your post I found the same problem as yours; blocking mode is not respected.
One idea I can think of is to stop the Sync at night, or change the e-mail checking time in non-priority hours if you are using the native E-mail client. Can't think of anything else; perhaps it's time Samsung opened up the development for the watch so people can start coding these kind of apps.

Turning off Sync should turn off all apps like Gmail that respect that feature; as for SMS, I have no idea how you can block that
My hunch is Samsung is about to push quite a few apps very soon, because there are a number of gear manager updates now. It's rather unfortunate that for the powerful hardware the gear is, the software is the biggest road-block. Open the SDK, Samsung guys!

Tasker or any such app should kill the sync but blocking the calls and sms isn't straight forward. Now, that I am typing this in perhaps one could switch to Airplane mode in the night to block everything.
However, I would prefer the way the blocking mode works, ringing only for calls in my contacts for emergency and block everything else during the night. My original idea was to sleep with the watch on for such things, but the vibration is not strong enough to wake me and it's unlikely it would wake anyone..
Notice this issue on day one of the release, I have been hoping that an update would have fixed this by now, but no such luck. I just turn my gear to vibrate at night and set it on a cloth as to not vibrate on the nightstand.
What about setting the gear to mute? I think this also stops notifications coming through?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
This isn't a big deal. Press and hold home, double tap the volume button to go from Sound >> Vibrate >> Mute. Done. Reverse in the morning. Takes 1-2 seconds.

want to setup a rigid alarm system

here is the case , i want to get up early morning but cannot , so i figured out that i will use puzzle alarm clock with some nfc tags and will be able to get up early since nfc tags are placed very far from bed . the routine was working fine but then one day i deleted the app in the morning and now every morning instead of getting up i delete the app and go back to sleep . To solve this problem i decided that i will find a app that assigns a password to delete this app and he password will be set by my friend so i dont know the password and i cannot delete the app , but then i started to switching of my phone in the morning and i cannot solve this . so if anyone can help me with this .i would prefer to get a password given to the app and power button so that neither can be deleted to switched off .

How would you hear it?
He could set up a Z-Wave network in his home with some motion detectors and a 120 db siren hidden in the attic.
The siren would be triggered when the motion detectors does not detect movement in the house (OP sleeping) at some specific time in the morning. He could then use a NFC tag with Tasker to send an intent to his Z-Wave network to shut the siren but that NFC tag would be located 1/4 mile away from his home to be 100% sure he's awake. If the tag is not scanned fast enough with his phone, the z-wave network could trigger a pellet stove igniter screwed in a gallon of kerosene hidden under his bed.
or he could go to bed earlier.
:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:
This is hilarious.
Up all night on XDA.
If your phone is rooted, you can mess with files in a way that causes the alarm uninstall to fail. This might work (but might also break your system if you try to uninstall it):
- Change the alarm to a system app (a pain to uninstall)
- Use the shell command "chattr +i /system/app/YourAlarmApp.apk". This means it can't be removed or changed. (It also means you may need to reformat /system next time you want to flash a custom ROM.)
But you really need to grow up. I can't help with how to do that, but this is a phone, not a hand grenade. There will always be a way to disarm it. I made a personal rule that I will always turn off my alarm in a normal way (dismiss/snooze), never using tricks to quickly silence it when it's supposed to be ringing. You just need to stop trying to sabotage your own good intentions.

If your phone is rooted, you can mess with files in a way that causes the alarm uninstall to fail. This might work (but might also break your system if you try to uninstall it):

But then isn't there any parental control app that lets you stop from uninstalling an app and switching off the phone . that can help me to a very great extent .

When you use gameloop....you match up with other players who are using either a controller or playing on emulator..... But using this method you match up with other mobile players....

use the sight button and place it on the right side of your screen.....you acn also adjust the sensitivity of the mouse.
and the solution for sound is to connect one end of an AUX cable (3.5mm male to male) to your phone and other to the lineIn port of your computer and enable listen to this device in line in properties.

WARNING:NOT SAFE | SEE SCREENSHOT
I am banned for the first time but for a very small time atleast
This is really not safe specially for pro gamers.
They are watching us.
i was having cod disconnection issue and force closes several times in a day whenever i play it with this. But i ignored it for 3-4 days. I was having in mind that i think cod admins are watching us/me cheating... but still i ignored it.
But then today after 2 force closes i am got banned but for a very small time.

Never played Ranked using this. I have played Only Multiplayer Featured maps till now with TC Games. (In this also i got connection issues and force closed several times
And at the time of Bann, I was just playing "vs Practice Mode" to enhance my controls for this.
i used to play lot of games with nox back in the day but for whatever reasons nox is giving problems with windows 11.
can anyone suggest alternative??
{Mod edit: Quoted post has been deleted - Oswald Boelcke}
You thought right; you are an awful player. Your solution to the problem is to be the problem. I've never been able to wrap my head around how people feel like they win a game if they cheat. The bugs, desync, etc. issues in Mobile shooters are horrible. There's not as many cheaters as you think.
