tablet pc ui/os that's good? - Off-topic

Okay so I'm running a dell xt2 3gig ram 120 gig hd with windows 7 on it. And I have to say while its fast and gets the job done, there is a lot that the os doesn't supply in the ui department. I installed the origami experience for vista and that seems to help a bit, but because its 1200x800, the experience is quite ugly and limited.
I guess what I am looking for is a fast finger friendly tablet pc ui (something like the sense ui). I have the metro ui installed currently and while its good I am getting a bit bored with it. So xda, are there any more?
edit I don't have a specific os in mind. if there is a linux build that rocks toss it over
I've tried moblin but wasnt impressed

For linux: Ubuntu netbook remix. Haven't tried it because my tablet has no touch/wifi linux support.
For Windows: I use Centrafuse(mainly GPS software, but is customizable) and blue dolphin because it is finger friendly. I haven't found anything close to a Sense UI in terms of depth.

link to blue dolphin?

What about Archos 9?
It seems quite ok

How silly of me, took me forever to find it first time
Go to this web site and select the download button, this will relay you to an ftp site where you can get this software for XP or 7
http://ctl.helpserve.com/index.php?_m=downloads&_a=viewdownload&downloaditemid=19&nav=0,6,1
As for the Archos 9: running a viliv s5 overclocked to 1.8ghz and a nice runcore ssd, it is still rather laggy, and the archos has no custom ui

Have you tried moblin/meego?

If what you want is just a fancy UI, try Samurize. Very customisable and last time I've checked it was also free! Loads of users share their customisations on the site. It is compatible with Win XP, Vista and Server 2003 but don't mention Win 7.
http://www.samurize.com/modules/myalbum/
See sample below.

wovens ty for the response i will try as soon as i reformat windows 7 on mine and get the appropriate drivers from the dell website
as for the question of trying moblin/meego
moblin i tried (read the first post)
meego doesnt have any stable candidates until next month
dolphin finally loaded and that impressed me quite a bit. i like it but there are some issues with it on my dell sadly. it was a monster to install. but thanks for the suggestions they definitely help me out a lot

You should try customizing it, try Litestep..its free, it replaces the windows shell with its own shell which you can basically do anything you want (with in reason). i would be lost without lol

Fennec Alpha 3 (Firefox for WM)

http://blog.mozilla.com/blassey/2009/09/04/fennec-alpha-3-for-windows-mobile/
I have installed this on my X1 and the interface looks good, but I can't get it to load any web pages!!
Am I missing something or is anyone else having the same issue?
For those that want to give it a try the cab is here:
bit.ly/wma3cab
same here
I didn't have any trouble at all - just installed and ran fine. I'm using Touch-X custom rom though, so I'm not sure if that affects it. I've tried both a1 and a3.
I'm really excited about the layout, it certainly better and more inline with the iPhone Safari experience; needless to say the rendering is the same as FF for desktops. But it's quite unstable, many pages cause the browser to crash/quit, and since there's no support for OpenES yet - it's painfully slow.
I only had one problem with it. It was terribly slow.
As Opero Mobile Turbo mode is still in beta and does not support lots of features, I keep my Opera mini.

Thats absolutely no excuse for this extremely slow piece of software, Opera Mobile 9.6 didn't have any acceleration either and is over an hundred times faster. OpenGL-ES was one of the key-features of 9.7 Beta.
Granted, its a Alpha. But all things considered, I dont think we'll ever see this running at reasonable speeds on the 528Mhz MSM7200A.
Im very interested how the speed is on the, 1Ghz Snapdragon powered, LG TG01 phone.
The actual page panning is a lot better since A2, it's just panning onto the interface that is painfully slow.

Haha that's true, shame that it seems Fennec's focus is really just on the Nokia platform at the moment.
on my x1, don't start the browser, crash only.

Will kick ass probably.
I think some people in this thread forget that it is a fricking ALFA! IT IS SUPPOSED TO CRASH AND BE SLOW AND LAGGY! Ever heard of a "work in progress", or did you think "alfa" is part of the name? Pffft...

BSODroid - BSOD any Vista machine on your network!

BSODroid is my first Android application. It is a proof of concept implementation of a flaw in Windows Vista, which is so far unpatched (although Microsoft are due to start distributing the patch any moment now), that allows a user to send a Blue Screen of Death to that computer over the network.
Main thread in Development section, but I just thought I'd post it here as I know that most Android users seem to check this section for Android applications, rather than the Development section!

43 downloads and no comments? Anyone out there having some fun with this?
ohhh yea i tried it at few test machines yesterday, it worked both on vista and windows 7RC. Not sure abt windows 7RTM but i think it also works on certain windows 2008 servers. Microsoft whats going onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
They dont have a patch available yet, but they do provide a workaround a registry hack that wont let BSoD comeup.
I d like to know more abt it whats the process here if you dont mind
Didn't work on my Win 7 RTM but thanks for the app.
Does this app can damage the computer / hard disk who gets the BSOD ??
Thanks for tour creation
It's great job.
i search an ip scanner for android ?? if you have information

You mean Win 7 RC
Have almost broken 1000 downloads! (Currently at 950)
If anyone's interested, go ahead and give it a try from the market!
Does it harm your PC or just gives you the bsod?
I want to know if it actually harms the comp as well. If its just a temp thing that doesn't actually do some serious damage this could be pretty fun!
Oh look, somebody found a way to be an Internet Griefer in real life.
Congrats.
Maybe instead of making this harassment app, you should've just reported the flaw to Microsoft through their developer feedback areas?

Damn fast indeed!!!!
Even faster than Chrome
yeah I love it
UNITE is great as well..
Looks good...will have to take it for a spin!
I've been using Opera for about a year now and opera 10 is great, and 10.50 is REALLY fast. The only issues I have is it freezes and crashes sometimes when browsing Java intense sites (such as Facebook), but I'm sure that's just a beta issue that will (hopefully) be fixed in the final release. Also, Opera Turbo is great when i tether my phone to my computer for internet. Opera Link is also a great feature so i can sync all my favorites and speed dial from my desktop to Opera Mini and Mobile on my phone.
Overall, I love opera. I just wish it had a wider java support as some features dont work on some sites (ie, the @ tagging on Facebook statuses doesnt work in opera). I would still suggest opera over all other browsers.
Regards,
sarge21rvb
Yes, unbeleievable. Thanks for the link
Thanks Orb for pointing out have to say impressed not used Opera for along time on desktop due to adverts, have they only just incorporated ad block?
Running fast and smooth will give it a while to know if can switch as straight away i'm missing some plugins i use on regular occasions.

How does the @ tagging on Facebook work? What isn't working in Opera?

And thought it would be a good show for what $250 can get u.
I thought an inprovement is needed, so instead ov booting up the tower, i decided to copy a apktool, smali, baksmali, over to a shared folder ran a script and an apk was decompiled.
Now my problem is i cant get the file to build due to lack of a aapt file, and google isnt much help right now.
Hopefully by the end of this well be able to build roms straight from the tab

So would any one have a direction to pointfor the proper lib and ini.d files
