Installing both Donut and eclair. - Touch CDMA Android Development

Currently running RLS 5 warm donut from nand.
Would like option to boot Warm eclair beta from SD card EXT2 partition.
1) I assume I put androidinstall.tar (for warm eclair) into /sdcard/andboot, run the installer and select install to SD for system and data?
2) currently using the donut 240x320 nbh. should I flash the eclair NBH? I expect to use donut as my primary build, but don't want to mess up running eclair.
3) How do I select between donut & eclair at boot?
Thanks!

1 = yes, just make sure that before you have install selected you have system and data set to partition or img
2 = that's the problem, you can flash an nbh in the field if you have a <=2gb sd card and change the nbh in the root with astro or something. Another way to switch between them in the field is to run it with haret in winmo and just swap the zimage. It is possible to run eclair on a donut nbh and vice versa however:
donut kernel:
donut rom = 3d works great
eclair rom = 3d is crap
eclair kernel:
donut rom = 3d is crap
eclair rom = 3d works great
3 = at boot you hold down the center key like your installing, then select your system/data install locations, be it nand for donut and ext2 for eclair, just make sure you have them correct then quit and continue booting. It will boot into the system and data that you selected.

thanks mrono
slightly more awkward than I thought, but no big deal
have not yet had time to try it
I have a 2GB micro sd card, so I should be able to use any of the options
don't want win mobile on my phone anymore - lol

[Q] What Rom is for me?

Im currently running jf 1.5 and I love the ability to have the apps for the rooted phones. But I'm getting a little of of the same old.
I'm basically looking for a Rom that looks like the Hero but still have the full rooted ability.
I also don't know jack about how to flash a spl or radio or fast boot. OR how to format the card into partitions...
Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!
If I were you I'd stick with JF and flash the hero theme by tehseano, found in the dream themes+ wallpapers forum. Or you can always change to cyanogen's 3.6.1 which is amazing and flash the hero theme too. For the spl + radio for hero, make sure you flash the radio and then the spl.
How to Partition the SD card for Apps2SD without using a PC. It's simple and easy. All you need is a Class 4 or Class 6 SD card.

If you have an 8GB SD card go with 7.5 FAT32 and 500MB is plenty of room for EXT3 files.
Next update the Recovery image.
Save "cm-recovery-1.3.img" onto your SD card from
http://n0rp.chemlab.org/android/cm-recovery-1.3.img
Then open "terminal Emulator" program.
Then
su (Press arrow enter key)
flash_image recovery /sdcard/cm-recovery-1.3.img (Press arrow enter key)
reboot (Press arrow enter key)
Then load The greatest OS

Hope that helps
Dude's unreleased rom (coming Monday I believe) will have a tweaked Hero theme which already existed in Dude 1.3RC2. Very fast, has some nice additions and the Hero theme on default but the latest version is not released yet...
As alritewhadeva mentioned you could use Cyanogen's superb ROM and flash the Hero theme on that. Its been mentioned already but this piece of advice never hurts to repeat - Flash the Radio first before the SPL if you are upgrading.

Flashing a base before using kingklick's eclairs?

Hello,
I installed xkingklick's back 2 stable eclair build (at least tried to) on my G1 using the following method:
Started off using cyanogen's rom (latest version) on my G1 then:
1. Partitioned my sdcard as fat32, 512mb ext3, 96mb swap
2. I wiped my phone
3. Applied the kingklick update.zip (version 1.5)
then rebooted and it just hang at this nexus one (?) 4-colors animated screen (the one with the colored swipes) sometimes it just hangs a little while (giving me the impression that something is happening in the background) but after waiting 40+ minutes I felt like nothing was going to happen.
Do I need to install some kind of baseimage as I did with cyanogenmod? What am I (obviously) doing wrong?
install amon ra's recovery image first
then wipe every partition and repartition the sd card...
wipe data
wipe dalvik
wipe ext3
wipe battery and rotation settings
when partitioning rmr to upgrade ext2 to ext3 after the partitioning...
i missed that in the beginning and phone was being mad slow
hope it helps...
if still the same problem
trying flashing another eclair rom
if it works then the dl copy u have is bad
redownload and check md5s
do you have a new spl?
if not flash a new spl first...
make sure you have the newest radio

To disarm the 20 mega ton bomb, carefully pull the blue wire out 1 inch from the bundle. Take the wire cutters and cut it 2 inches from the left end..........
But first............BOOM!

Eclair on SD Card

Right now I am running Android 1.5 from my sd card (the version were I just put the files on the card, hit haret and it runs) and was wondering if any one updated the 1.5 to 2 doing the same process. I am running Sprint and really don't want to unlock the phone or flash a rom.

you can still use the nomorootfs method, using haret, just select sdcard for the storage of sys and data and nothing in your precious win mo install will be touched. see my FAQ.

Freezes on "creating a new Data store" on android boot

Hey all.
I cant seem to get android Froyo 2.2 Beta to boot on my TD2,
It freezes on "Creating a New Data Store"
Can anyone give me a hand?
Hi TrickstaICT!
Just copy an older 2.1 XDAndroid on your sd card and start it with your favorite StartUp.TXT
This will create a data.img on your sd card. (approx. 256MB)
Use the generated data.img with the new 2.2 XDAndroid Froyo build.
I hope this will help you, I had the same problem if I try to generate a new data store.
Damn it.
Now kernal is panicing.
not syncing
does the partition have to be ext3? the same as andriomnia?
Hello,
I'm facing the same problem.
Can anyone be more specific for: "
Use the generated data.img with the new 2.2 XDAndroid Froyo build." ???
I think what they mean is to run the 2.1 package which will create a data.img on the SD card, put this somewhere safe then when you run the 2.2 Froyo package, use this as your data.img. This means that the Froyo package doesn't have to create a data store. It's not perfect (apparently) and causes some issues but is a kind of workaround.
i copied the datastore from 2.1, kernel panics
use newest rootfs and
zImage from 2010.07.02 thats the newest that works for me on my TOPAZ

I second that. My topa210 will only use 7-2 zimage package with newest rootfs and a saved data.img. Works great though.
Yes its easy.
So download the 2.1 build. Copy all files to your SD Card.
Now download the 2.2 build, but only copy System.Ext2 to your SD Card, overwriting the 2.1 System.ext2.
Now just copy the startup.txt to the root of your SD Card and run haret.exe.
Wait and wait en voila!
Android boots!

Wm from NAND and Adroid from SDCard

Hi there. I am relatively new here, so I hope that you dont mind this kinda noob question. I tried to boot two diferent Android ROMs, Myn's Warm Donut from NAND and Incubus26Jc's Super Eclair from SDCard and that operation was succesfull. When card is out, pda loads Donut and with sd card in, pda loads Eclair.
My question: Is there any chance to load WM from NAND and Android from SDCard?
