wow! thats badass man

go to pointer location in dev tools. hold one finger down then put the other down, use like pinch zoom but keep the first one still.
thats how the other guy does it in wimo. you can kinda see a pattern.
if you let go of the second one first the point retraces its steps almost exactly!
i keep coming to the same point...great idea, lots of time..but not enough dev knowledge on the android. this might be easiest to tackle (out of the things i want to) because its top level.

I would be great if it was possible to 'zoom in' around the phone, then maybe I'd be able to 'see' to use the thing!

have you noticed that all native android phones have a zoom button?
1. why doesnt this do anything for us? i use kaiser so i have lots of extra buttons
2. if it can work as a button, should be easy to write a quick program to check for the pattern i described and call the same thing as the button

oops its a search button. but still

TouchFlo - Am I missing something?

I may be being totally daft, but I can't seem to find anywhere in the interface that has the supposed TouchFlo features. The contact app seems to be just the regular WM6 one.
Can someone please give me an example of where the TouchFlo features are used on the Kaiser?
It's pretty subtle, if you are in a long document, say contacts, you can touch the screen downward in a sweeping motion and the contacts should scroll down continuously. You should hear clicking like a roulette wheel, slowing down till it stops. (You can disable that sound). This works vertical and horizontal (if there is reason to scroll).
It's pretty subtle. Some have complained that it doesn't work well with IE and have loaded Opera-Mini to get that functionality to work better. I've tried both and they seem to work OK for me.
It's not very well implemented.
This is the difference between actually creating something useful and adding a feature just to have it on a checklist ("can scroll using flick like iphone") !
Thanks for the replies, I finally get it. It's pretty lame as-is, I really hope someone will manage to extend the functionality in a custom rom in the future.

It is not that lame, in my opinion. actually, it is rather more useful than the whole cube-thing implemented on the Touch. ie, if your in the car and try to get to a certain contact or scroll a word doc, it is a lot easier to just touch the screen with your finger rather than use the stylus to scroll using the scroll bars.
i like this feature and i dont consider it as a just-to-be-there feature.
I'm pretty sure my palm pda/phone from 5 years ago had Touch Flo

Improved Usability
Drag the stylus anywhere on screen to scroll a web page. Increase viewable content on the screen with the small font option. Get essential starting tips through the Help menu.
Isn't that what TouchFlo does ?

imagine a piece of paper that you could only see though a small hole (screensize). if you pressed your finger down on the paper, and slide it toward you (down), the text on that paper would appear to scroll up, and vice versa...
by the time someone finds the reg tweak, we'll all probably be used to it...

Yeah i know what your saying...But to me it just seems wrong which is why i pretty much don't use it.....Im pretty much used to now scrolling using the scroll bar.
and to me it would be much more useful if it was the other way.

You want it to act like the scroll bar, basically.
TouchFlo=Iphone WannaBe Marketing Trick
Someone else said earlier and they were dead on: all these top of the line pocket pc /cell phone makers got blind sided by Apple's touch screen, which basically makes the Iphone.
So a smart alec at HTC said "let's whip out a touch flo phone, out comes the HTC Touch, and now let's plaster touch technology everywhere on each model as a marketing gimmick to keep up with the Jones' "
I mean 1 million Iphones sold since June 29th as of today...what choice did they have?
The reslut: Touch Flo technology a la cheap, not using the right screen (Iphone screens cost up the wazoo and are made by Balda of Germany) and is basically no different than the D pad...so NO, HTC phones do not have ANY touch tech. yet.

For me it is. especially if it is in internet explorer, where the scroll wheel jumps from link to link, while the touchflo scrolls pages. i know we can modify the scroll wheel behaviour to scroll pages as well, but as it came from the factory this is the behaviour.
plus, if u are driving, it is easier to just touch the display once rather than keep your finger pressed on the d-button or on the wheel.

Getting out of full screen mode from acrobat reader LE

Hello Everyone,
I just got my diamond 3 days ago. Right now, i'm trying adobe acrobat reader LE 2.5 that is included with the phone. Te problem is that once i select full screen mode, there is no way to get out of it. I tried double tapping, tapping the corners, reducing the zoom and nothing happens, the document reamins in full screen so i cannot change any settings.
What i do is to close the applications with the task manager.
Anyone knows how to do it?
Thanks in advance!
Yeah, couldn´t manage it either.

i did open a book in full screen. used "back" button or "hang up" button to close/minimize the adobe, then really closed it with the task manager!
nothing special. nothing to be worried about....lol
of course, but this can´t the way how it´s supposed to be done.

of course. the way to do it should be just think "adobe close" !
using two full clicks is the wrong way to do it. damn, HTC! when are you going to learn!!
why using full screen in the first place?! use "reflow".
now if you know another way me and HTC are glad to learn.
on a serious note, i wonder sometimes: why bother and try helping?! nothing seems to be good enough for some ppl...
i´m not kidding. just imagine you make your internet explorer on your pc fullscreen, so the only way to make it non fullscreen anymore is to fully close the application and then restart it?
you can´t be serious that this is the way...
I would like to read a .pdf file on my ppc in fullscreen and maybe change the file again an read another in fullscreen, maybe it will never happen in your usage profile in mine it will.
opera is capable to do so too, so where is the problem, maybe a double click and you get out of the fullscreen mode. That´s not magic.

KukurikU I do agree with horstborsch, I think that maybe a double tap would work to go back to normal screen.
I use full screen when i need to watch some detailed diagrams included in pdf documents, reflow wouln't work for this.
I think there should be a way to do it, if not i would consider this as a bug.
On the other hand, please if you cannot post a good answer or if you don't think the question is good enough for you to answer, save your words, there is no need to be sarcastic. I think the idea behind this forum is to help each other, not to post stupid comments.
Not just me then..
First post on the forum, so first of, hello! This looks like a great resource!
I am also having this problem, see no way to get out of full screen at all
I also encountered this problem only 3 days ago...
Adobe Reader full-screen...
I think the problem with this application is that is was designed for devices with hardware keys beneath the screen which operate the soft-key command on screen (similar to that of non-touch screen smartphones). Of course, the Diamond has no such keys.
I used to use this application on my old Wizard (which does have the hardware keys). If you pressed any of these two hardware keys, the menu would re-appear. You could then exit full-screen and execute any of the other options. Perhaps this is an oversight on Adobes' part?
All u guys are LUCKY..i cant even see the fullscreen option??

Diamond novice needs your help... PLS!!!

After having a Touch a few months back, i thought the Diamond would be a breeze. NO such luck in my experience.
For example. On the main home screen. How do you edit that so it's just the clock or, to add more to the list that currently shows calendar and call history? I can't find any way to do this so if you can enlighten me, i'd really appreciate it.
What about when texting? Is there any way to make the keypad a different size? Personally i can't find a way to edit that. It's annoying that after adding your contacts name, you seemingly have 90% of the screen filled with the entry system and you have to mess about to get to the message section of the screen. Guessing i've missed something somewhere!
Zooming in on a photo... how is that done? Orange's CD ROM User Manual is vague to say the least so if you can assist here to, please do.
This thread could become a handy hints and tips chart for beginners if all feedback is good so if you have a question or some simple advice for settings and the way to go around things, chuck a note in and someone will be very happy to see the reply
1) Well if u flick ur finger in an upward motion on the home screen u'll notice the clock becoming smaller and will list all the list all ur appointments from ur calendar...
2) If u are not satisfied in the HTC Keyboard, u will need to look into other keyboards my fav personally is Touchpal from Cootek and there is even resco keyboard which is pretty gud.
3) You can only zoom in a picture when u r in the HTC Album, in order to zoom you will need to rotate your finger clockwise or anti-clockwise i am always forget which is for zooming so u will need chk tht out...
I hope these tips helps u out....

Hmmmmmm, i see. Shame that somehow we can't take the good things from the Touch like the Home screen as standard and have them in the 3D instead. If any cab compilers are reading this, maybe it's something that could be done?
Along those lines, maybe someone could rip out the original texting keyboard, the smaller more compact one... better for stylus use and enables you to see more screen. I HATE the big finger pad they've put on the Diamond. Is is really necessary to have it that big? Surely if you're going to use the stylus (i mean if HTC didn't want us to use one, then ALL the functions and menus would be larger, yes?), then why provide us with one in the first place?!?!!

There are multiple SIPs already built into the Diamond. Holding your finger or stylus on the small arrow next to the keypad button when input is allowed will display the menu, from there you can select the Windows SIP which is tiny and stylus friendly...

Ok... answer this one then. Every other HTC phone i have had has done this but not on the Diamond. When you receive a simple thing like an mms or a text, the screen lights to give a clue in case you never heard the message laert. How you you activate THAT cus i'm not seeing how it'ds done anywhere.
Clues please?

Best Picture Viewer !!!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNJcBs2D4r8&feature=related
Please see this video. It's a China phone run Android OS. You can see the Picture Viewer on this device, it's awesome. I hope someone can get this application and share it.
According to the description for that video, it is not running on Android, but rather is an Android skin to whatever operating system it is running on. Probably precludes the picture viewer from running on Android.
I'm kinda shocked no one made a picture scrolling app...or at least the Astro makers released their built in one as a standalone...
I'm shocked the standard picture viewer doesnt support swipe.
Just out of curiosity, what's wrong with pushing the left and right arrow buttons to switch pictures? It's less work than swiping.
true...nothing is wrong with it, but I mean overall astros viewer (thumbnail slider, autorotate - which I think will exist in cupcake anyways if haykuro's builds are proper) is much nicer more functional when it displays (not enough menu options though..aka one...share)

Apache! Track Ball! Landscape View! (questions)

Any chance there's a way to run Apache Home Server on my CDMA Hero?
Not looking for anyone who wants to convince me not to, I would just like to know if it's possible/doable.
Also, rather than making a seperate topic,
Is there any way we can:
1) Make a pointer for the track ball? Even, at the very least, while using the browser? I mean, really... why has this not been done yet?
2) Make it so our Home Screens turn when the Accelerometer changes to wide view. When sliding the keyboard out on the Droid and (I believe G1) the viewing automatically changes to landscape. I would love this feature as well. Is this doable, possible?
Thanks in advance, any advice given is appreciated!
bump...
>.>
if you compile apache and all the libs and whatever it depends on for android then it should be possible. afaik there is a webserver for android out there, any reason why it needs to be apache? i think it is way to complex for android, a small lightweight webserver should be no problem in theory.
a trackball pointer might be possible, but not trivial. personally i don't see the reason, when using the trackball in the browser the selected link is highlighted green, what do you need a pointer for?
again, theoretically doable is also the rotated homescreen. you "just" need to redesign sense ui for landscape view. which might be really hard, as it is more than just a small app, and it is closed source (because it is part of htc's modifications, not part of the original android). tbh, don't wait for it to happen unless htc does it.
and last but not least: no offense, but give your posts a few hours, not everything is answered directly.

It doesn't need to be Apache, I'm just more familiar with that particular server software. If there are other options I would be glad to explore them. There are a few things I would like to test that I think would be kind of cool depending on the type of webserver I can run.

A track ball would help out in a lot of ways. If open to the OS it would let me select programs, etc. while wearing gloves. It would open up the option of navigating without having to actually use the touch screen in case the scenario presents itself (again, gloves).
If just the browser it could help with games and those types of things. One important thing I have noticed is that I can't scroll within a frame on the browser. If I had a pointer I could, at the least, be able to click and drag the inner frame down without moving the main browsing page. This is somewhat vital to me as my College's Blackboard System is completely based on these types of web pages.

That's a shame. The one problem I have is the amount of rotating I have to do. I would prefer to have the home screens locked in landscape rather than how they are now. It's just a little ridiculous to be watching a video on the phone and texting someone... but every time you want to reply/text you have to rotate the phone. It just seems tedious and I'm a man of efficiency if I can help it.
Maybe I can convince HTC.

I believe this is being done in the 2.1 Sense that HTC have promised us...sometime.
But imo its really ugly, nothing seems to be the right proportions (I'm a designer, so it kinda bugged me)

that can be solved, press menu on homescreen, from there on you can use the trackball to navigate to all programs and then navigate through the menu.
i got myself some gloves from north face, which have a conducting fabric on the tips of thumb and index finger, so i can use the touchscreen natively with them. works great, actually got them before i had the hero because they are cool anyway
for the rest: i see your point now, but can't help. and tbh i don't think htc will take too much interest in your concerns... but try anyway, at least they should know about it!
For the web server you might want to try PAW server for Android. Although it's still in beta, it has a lot of built-in goodies like call log, send SMS and so on.
And you can serve your own static or dynamic (BeanShell) pages.
