HTC Exchange ActiveSync implementation in DarchDroid 2.7 Kangslayer, is it possible? - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HTC Exchange ActiveSync implementation in DarchDroid 2.7 Kangslayer, is it possible?
The following is a plea for help with a problem that I have searched high and low for an answer and have come up dry.
First I want to say how much I LOVE this ROM. IMO, this is everything the Android Experience was meant to be. Although I can understand what some people see in the “skins” provided with HTC Sense, this look and feel comes at a cost of performance. Only Darchstar has provided a fully functional and working AOSP ROM for the HTC Hero and I can’t see going backwards to stock or any other Sense based ROM. To Darchstar, THANK YOU SIR!
Although I have decided to utilize the ROM full time, this comes at a large price, in my case, a cost of productivity to my day job. Currently with this ROM I am unable to access the Exchange account my company utilizes. In short, the configuration of the account is beyond my control and I am limited to work within the environment that is provided.
The Problem:
The default AOSP “Corporate” account setup does not play with my company’s deployment of Exchange. Although many of the solutions I have found kept me hoping for an answer, all of come up short. Apps like TouchDown seem very promising, but just don’t handle the implementation of ActiveSync my company provides. Although, I really couldn’t tell you why, the problem could stem from the way the AOSP version identifies itself to the server, the way it handles Security Certificates, etc.
To date, I have found only ONE functional option of accessing my Exchange account consisting of Email, Calendar, and Contacts (if I so chose). That option is the one provided within HTCs stock software for the phone. Although many posts have complained how inadequate HTCs deployment and use of the ActiveSync protocol is, for some reason it works very well for my situation.
To anyone who's still confused, the following images may be the easiest way to explain what I'm trying to achieve...
HTC Sense Implementation
WORKS VERY WELL

AOSP "Corporate" Implementation
THIS, NOT SO MUCH (NOT AT ALL)
My Request (see: Plea)
I want to know if its possible to implement the individual element(s) of the Exchange Activesync deployment within the HTC Version into AOSP. Is it a simple APK problem or is it a larger combination of challenges?
I ask for anyone who may have come across this problem or something similar to post a reply and point me in the right direction. I have already made the decision to stay with the FULL AOSP that only Darchstar has provided via 2.7, I love it and just can’t go back. Please, if you can help, if you think you have a solution, I am all eyes!
To anyone who responds, I thank you in advance!

I'll add my interest in finding this out too. Not as much from needing it to radically change, but just from the sense of wanting to add the ability to do calendar sync, that's an important enough piece of the puzzle that I'd like to make it work.
P.S. - I know about Google Calendar Sync, but a push option is always better.

I'm no expert by any means, but I have my Exchange Email working perfectly through DD 2.7. AOSP 2.1 does not support syncing calendars, but you should be able to sync email and contacts. For Calendar I use Google Calendar Sync to sync my Exchange calendar to my Google Calendar and it works like a charm.
Can you provide more information on the limitations of your Exchange server setup? Has your administrator been able to communicate the issues surrounding your inability to connect?
Also, you may want to try the Froyo ROM Darch is working on. It implements new Exchange functionality and calendar sync is available. At the least, if you don't want to mess with an Alpha ROM you can have hope in waiting for a final Froyo build.

The exchange in darch works fine for my accounts. It is a little awkward at first. Domain and user name are in the same box separated by a / Otherwise every other box in HTC is in AOSP. It may be easier to set up the account through the mail app. Hope this helps.

Agreed. For me, the only thing that was different in setting up mail on AOSP was that the Domain\Username was on the same line. You have to enter domain.com\Username for whatever domain you're on and your username. Seems kind of trivial and I'm assuming you already knew that, but just in case...

I am in the same boat as OP. Exchange works with sense but not with dd2.7.
The error I get is "This Exchange ActiveSync server requires security features your phone does not support".
I installed touchdown and that seems to work ok. I would like to have the native solution (integration with calendar etc).

To my knowledge, this is a server side issue. Out of curiosity you may want to run the test at this site and see what it shows:
https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/
I ran this and everything tested successfully. I selected "Synchronize All Items in the Inbox Folder" and "Ignore Trust for SSL."
Also, I have just installed the Froyo build Darch and company are working on and I get perfect email, calendar and contact syncing through the native app.

Thank you all for your replies so far!

The server setup and provided by my company "is what it is" in the sense that I have no way of requesting a change or any kind of configuration information as all of this is being done "under the radar". My company does not officially support Android devices, but that is not to say that they wouldn't allow it if it worked without any interaction on their part.
I have high hopes for the Froyo implementation and the possibility that it will resolve the current problem, but I really don't know how far out that may be.

Setting up the account through the mail app has had the same result as going through Accounts & Sync --> Add Account --> Corporate
Also I have tried every combination of Domain\User (Domain\User, Domain/User, \User, /User) with no luck. It appears to be a problem with the way AOSP handles and communicates with a server, thus the wider variety of problems people encounter.

Even Touchdown doesn't work for me, I have also tried to import the Security Certificate provided by my company for the Windows Mobile phones with no luck. One interesting tidbit is the fact that the HTC ActiveSync implementation is getting around the need for a Certificate.

https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/ Has provided me a little more detail around how the server is communicating with the Device, but more than anything it just leads me to better support the notion that AOSP doesn't support more complex ActiveSync configurations.
Once again, thanks for all the replies so far. I look forward to continued dialog in the hopes we can reach a solution!

Do a search for CorCal.apk, that might fix some of the issues you are having, plus it comes with a pretty decent widget. If you have issues with it, PM me.

This has to do with device encryption. I too would love to see some sort of apk available to add manually instead of my only choices being applying a Sense UI ROM to my N1.

Thanks a lot.
What a the big changes between .36 and the newest one? I could never get the newer one to work on my kaiser either but I am trying to obtain a FUZE soon.
Found this post searching even more. I did not see too much differences but this may help out others.
"Hello there everyone! I am sure you all are quite a big user of Hotmail and MSN services on your Nokia, Motorola or LG phones or any other PDA devices right? I know I use MSN messenger everyday to keep in touch with my friends and families on the go from my mobile. Microsoft Hotmail charges some extra bucks for push mail services which Google doesn’t but I am just so accustomed to using Hotmail, I just had to find a work around. And good news is that I actually did. Just discovered the latest version of MSN Mobile Messenger with free push Hotmail support, the local search, and the live search have been released.
In this latest version the messenger interface have been enhanced even more, you can do conference chat on the go and even chat in five different friends in five different windows at a time from your mobile phone or PDA. Hotmail have been integrated which actually simply configures itself once you give the email address and the password for your account. Additionally beside all these, you have exclusive online access to password protected parts of the Windows Live Spaces, online file storage and what not. Think of it, if you are an windows live spaces blogger or webmaster, this is a dream kit for you. If you are not, well still then it is a dream kit for you cause the messenger interface is far more superior than anything else out there in the mobile applications market.
With the latest Push version of this MSN Mobile Hotmail, you can be sure that you will never miss another mail due to access problems. It even has the auto complete feature enabled so that when you want to mail someone and you forget their email address, you can still email them by just typing what you remember about that person, let it be their email name or address. The coolest part of it is that you don’t even have to scroll to find the mail. The Microsoft Windows Live spaces feature lets you upload photos from your mobile phone on the go, believe that? Now you can blog on Live spaces even if you are not in front of your desktop. If you are lost in the road you can simply open up the Local Search option and find the detailed address by looking into the map feature, you can even pan, scan and zoom at the same time which will also show you the dynamic weather report just like you see in the desktop version of MSN Local Search. As in the laptop or desktop, you can also save those specific maps/points on your MMC or phone memory to retrieve and view later without incurring GPRS or 3G cost.
MSN mobile lets you view stock quotes, weather conditions, latest happening news from all around the globe and also lets you browse the latest in Entertainment as in movies, celebrity gossips etc. You can seek up phone numbers of anyone you know, or get the latest tips on Tax and other financial stuff all on the go. This is particularly very useful if you are a businessman and need to keep up with the current market and situations even when you are out of your workstation. All unlocked version of Att or Atnt, tmobile or sometimes known as t-mobile, verizon wireless, Sprint and Cingular prepaid and postpaid subscribers can also enjoy these information and services to the fullest from their smartphones or pda. The nifty MSN messenger feature also lets you see and set your own status message, add or delete contacts, appear offline etc just like you do on the PC. You also have the integrated Live search and if you have signed up with the SMS text features of MSN then you can also access and use that."
Not sure if this version does it or not, but I would LOVE for it to sync my profile pictures that I save for contacts.
I've used Windows Live for a while now, and I use it to sync my contacts and email, but its a PITA to reassign my profile pictures everytime I hard reset or flash a new ROM. That was one of the things I liked about Exchange.
Another feature on my wish list would be to sync my calendar/tasks.
If they did those two things, then I think it would be almost as powerful as an Exchange server...for free!
thanks for this unfortunately i still can't send or receive files through it.
Hi Da_G,
I downloaded your cab earlier and just installed it but nothing happens when i click the "windows messenger" icon. I have done soft resets too but it does not work. I have installed it in storage card.
Thanks
try installing it on the device, i haven't heard of it being installed on the storage card and properly working
Not sure if his version is different, but I've read where this version doesn't actually have messenger.
As stated in the title, and visible in the screenshot, this version is with messenger.

Thanks, I'll be installing this in just a bit
i just installed and tried sending/recieving files, works like a charm over here
Updated first post, 10.6.46.800

Microsoft Exchange on HTC Magic ???

Is there Microsoft exchange in native on HTC magic Vodafone ?
You could try Moxier Mail though it only supports email, no contact or calender syncing yet.
http://www.brighthand.com/default.asp?newsID=14920&subject=Android+Exchange+ActiveSync
it's a big mistake to not introduce the MS Exchange on Android in native ....
try this one

works fine for me
I pre-ordered a magic in Taiwan. According the announced test report. Exchange is included in Taiwan version. Yet, I am not sure if it works to your expections. You could see the screenshot

Check the official statement of Eric Lin(HTC):
"The Magic being sold in most of Asia is not a Google experience phone so we have started to put some of the HTC special sauce into Android. That Magic has Exchange support, a much more responsive and full featured camera application, a custom dialer application with smart dial and additional widgets as well."
http://androidguys.com/?p=5129
OK, so we wont have it natively.
What do people prefer TouchDown or RoadSync?
Surely someone will come along and write a free one soon......
Maybe someone will dump the org. HTC Magic rom....Haykuro?
Ive only been testing this device for our company for a few days. Its a fantastic device and i cannot see what the iPhone has over it. Its only drawback as a business tool is that it does not natively support Exchange and office documents. I know you can buy such apps but for an IT dept to support these devices, things like this should be out of the box.
/Jon
I agree. I purchased a Vodafone AU Magic. I initially downloaded a trial of Touchdown for Exchange. Great application worked first go but not worth the $25 they asked for.
Finally I tracked down an HTC Magic original ROM in which native Exchange support is there (and works) but Bluetooth doesn't work.
I would like HTC to release a ROM which supports all Magic hardware versions, native, Exchange support and where everything works! As a customer I should be able to choose which ROM I would like to run with.
Having said that, some of the Vodafone customisations are really cool... keyboard, dialer etc.

I've been using RoadSync - is free and works pretty well (for email only) apart from sometimes I have to sync twice to receive all of my messages.
Can i use it as a regular e-mail app like for gmail, hotmail, or yahoo??? Im wondering if its posible and if it is is good cause all other apps ive tried suck big time. thanks
What??? It has an exchange app.
The MyTouch has a MS Exchange app. My fiance' and I both have a MyTouch with the stock 1.6 and it's there. It's called "work email." My fiance' uses it for her work exchange email and it works perfectly with no issues.
imo Touchdown is the only real exchange client available with Full exchange support. Works perfectly, worth every penny if you want compete exchange functionality.
NitroDesk's Touchdown is a solid app that has full exchange support including GAL look up, mail, calendar, tasks, and reminders.
Touchdown also supports alerting on multiple folders under your in-box where most only alert for new mail in your in-box only. For me I have many rules running that move mail around for organizational purposes which touchdown handles great. Also provides the option to view individual folders or similar to blackberry's, view all folders as one in box on the phone.
Another feature not found in other exchange clients is support for all Exchange OMA security features. We have polices on our Exchange server that require a PIN to be created and used to access mail. If the PIN is entered incorrectly to many times it wipes the mail off the device. The bundled mail app with the T-mo MyTouch does not support Exchange security policy's.
I say touch down is worth every penny if you are a heavy mail user used to the blackberry.
Exchange ROM Yes/No!
hi guys, thanx for info's, but what does it mean for me, that there is now no other way to run an exchange client on my vodafone magic, so i have to buy a third party product, or does it make sense to wait for a ROM.
thanxs
atm you can use for full ActiveSync support the "The Official Rogers" which you can find in the HTC Dream Developers Area. Works fine.
Thanxs
ok thanxs for info, i'll try out, or hope to find it. i don't understand why vodafone in austria this feature disabled nerver mind

MY Exchange issue with all ROM's

I have been having with all the ROM's (and I have tried haykuro, JF, Rogers cyano, ramjet, virtudude etc. with the same error message 'cannot create the account, please try again later.'
Now, Moxier, RoadSync Beta and Touchdown all work just fine with the same inputs (SSL, exchange server name, user, passwd, domain etc.) I am giving the HTC mail app.
I Think the problem is ISA. My company uses ISA security.
All the 3rd party apps (Moxier, TD etc.) all support ISA, but I don't think the HTC mail app supports it.
Reason for this post is two-fold:
-I know there were/are others who are in the same boat, thought I'd at least pass this along
-Question is, the new Mytouch 3G announced clearly mentions Exchange support, so I am wondering how that can be since I have tried all variations/ROM's based on cupcake here already with no avail.
The only thing I haven't tried is the stock cupcake update which i don' think has Exchange? So does the MyTouch have a customized ROM or would ISA probably not work on MyTouch as well?
I am guessing the later?
KG
I think i know what is the issue, the account you are trying to create is Secured, and HTC mail client is not secured, and you will have the same issue with MyTouch 3G ,i tried it myself and i've got the same error (

username issue
Hi,
Have a look at this Thread
There are some issues with the exchange client, it could also be your server setup, check out Brian's comments in the thread.
That might help.
Cheers,
Jon
Make certain you are on Exchange 2007, 03 has way too many issues w/mobile devices, 07 has many designs based around mobile.
About the Exchange thing:
I imagine they're using advertising speak to say that you can get your Exchang email - which is possible over IMAP (depending on your Exchange server settings, obviously).
From what I understand, Google won't allow the "with Google" tag on phones that include ActiveSync.
The MyTouch3G most definitely is "with Google". So it's probably the IMAP thing.
I think it is the ISA issue. I also have the same problem with the stock HTC activesync exchange software. ISA option is the only difference I notice between the stock HTC activesync and the 3rd party apps (touchdown, moxier, etc)

huh? this is not my decision to make. My company uses 2003, that's that. Dunno if/when they will upgrade to 2007, point was that 2003 works fine with Moxier, TD and Roadsync, that is all the other 3rd party apps work, only the HTC app doesn't work.

where i work we use Zimbra which has an "exchange" server. It utterly fails on any HTC exchange support
touchdown works perfectly, iphone exchange works perfectly. Pre exchange works perfectly.
Right now this is the single biggest "fail" with android.
So anybody know if the Exchange s/w that comes with cupcake will do better than HTC's s/w? (i.e. will/does it have ISA access)?
It's too much work to try it out, would have to downgrade down to RC29->RC30->cupcake. And i would lose root?
I guess it would be too much to ask if someone on this board would be:
-running cupcake (stock)
-have an ISA exchange account to test with
*sigh*, this is literally the ONLY thing I hate about Android.

Here are some of my observations.
-JAC Hero - my HTC exchange works fine. Just can't seem to include original email in replies. I can't cut/paste either. No HTML.
**is this the same in Rogers builds?
-Dudes Rogers - wouldn't create account similar to you issue. Went back to hero.
JAC Hero - I reinstalled, but did not set up email durin begining phone setup. Later when configuring it would connect, show my folders, then fail to create account. I did a logcat and it is trying to delte an account that does not exist.
JAC Hero - reflashed and setup during phone setup and it works fine.
***anybody know the difference for HTC mail between Rogers and Hero??
I'd like to give Rogers a more solid try but need exchange.

I got the same issues that you have with contacts i have tried the ravenge rom, The dudes rom and they i end up with the same error client server conversation error, sometimes i get "error occurred on the computer running the exchange server" and the only way to get rid of it if to delete the account and try again i have 586 contacts... My colleague has a G1 and running any of the above mentioned Rom's he gets no errors he has 150 contacts.
It could be that its toooo many contacts for the sync to handle, i have created a new Exchange account imported my 586 contacts and i will let you know how it goes in a day.
I cant live without exchange!!!! and i don't fancy buying touchdown (even though it works really well)
help solving this issue will be higly appreciated

Then go get a Windows Mobile phone people are trying to help you, no need to be so impatient. Who can you really blame if it is a compatibility issue between Exchange 2003 and the app? HTC or your company for not keeping things up to date?
Also, I wouldn't say this thread belongs in Android development.

I have the same problems... I have 138 contacts. I plan to back them up and strip there content down, like removing comments and contact images and see if that helps.

[Project] Android MS Exchange Client

Hi,
I am thinking of creating an Android Exchange client as I am yet to find a 100% suitable one for my G1.
I currently use TouchDown which works acceptably, but I dont think the interface is particularly in keeping with the standard Android theme. It also seems to duplicate many aspects of the G1 features (calander etc) - why not integrate?
So I was wondering if anyone had some experience of programming (I do, before someone asks) in particular with Exchange history if possible, as I could do with some help and I am all for helping the Android community.
I haven't decided yet if the app will be FOSS or closed source, but if I were to charge it would be around the 1GBP mark - I'm not trying to pay the mortgage off, but something to reimburse the time spent is always nice. Maybe a lite version for free etc.
PM me if you are interested in helping out, I will probably setup a Google Code project or something.
Rich
I am not a programmer (sorry), but I just want to say there is definitely a market for good Exchange apps. The company I work for switched to G1s recently and we bought a few Touchdown licenses just for ActiveSync. I personally hate the TouchDown interface (sorry devs, you're nice and all but I am a fan of design as well as function!). If something was created that could do TouchDown's job (or better) and fit in with Android better, you'd have some people interested for sure.
rich,
I may be interested in working on this. I just got my ADP1, and have barely started playing with it. I'm still running touchdown under the free trial period.
Exchange sync is built into Android 2.0. I haven't played with a droid, so I don't know if it's implemented more like you're talking about or not, but that's certainly worth looking into before developing from scratch.
I know that the 2.0 build should support it, however most Exchange interfaces dont work on our setup
We use a different port for the SSL connection and this seems to break most Exchange implementations (excluding TouchDown). Is the Exchange support in the AOSP Email app?? Or is it like the HTC version?
I would find this very useful. As already said we have many G1 and Magic out there using Work Email and Touchdown....
My problem with a couple of the exchange syncs is they don't include Calendars and Contacts. What good is That? When they say Work Email they mean just that, email.

Hope you have the cash to buy an Activesync Exchange license. That is unless you're planning on using OWA , in which case I doubt folks would pay for an Exchange client without push.

I have tried the xROM based on the 2.0 AOSP and the mail client supports MS Exchange contacts and calender included.
I would certainly be very interested, especially if you managed to support exchange categories. Touchdown on my HTC Hero (v1.5) certainly doesnt, and neither does the built in HTC activesync program.
Ideally I want to have a month view calendar with the different calendar events shown on a daily timeline with a colour I can choose for each calendar category.
As far as I can find, I dont think that any of the current android/exchange syncing options even support or mention exchange categories!!!
The 2.0 email app is fully configurable to support exchange, you can change ports and ssl settings. Works perfectly.
There are a few issues that I have with the exchange solutions for Android.
1. Touchdown works, but I hate that it does not integrate into the existing framework. I know it can be done, look at SenseUI from HTC. Almost perfect! Just runs like crap on MyTouch.
2. Lack of integration (touched on point 1, but needed to be said).
3. Lack of full features. Seriously, WHY is there NO WAY to tell it what times to sync and what times not too. I don't need to get EVERY email that is sent between 10pm and 5am and then have my phone sqwaking all night. This bugs me about GMail data sync, I have to MANUALLY shut it off... ugh... Touchdown does this, SenseUI does not...
Anyway, a working, full featured integrated application would be worth paying for. Talk about enterprise licensing... People would be all over that... trust me...
Thanks,

[Q] Exchange Calendar sync problem

Hi to All,
I'm a newbie both to forum and to android and am finding the new operating system
frustrating.
I need to sync my work Outlook Exchange email and calendar. I've managed to receive, send and access my emails (thought the filing structure could be a whole lot better) and sync my contacts. My problem is that I cannot get my work calendar to work/sync with my Galaxy S even though my handset is set to sync contacts, it's driving me mad.
I have tried "touchdown" and "K9" mail handlers without success.
As a convert from iphone, which worked perfectly, I'm beginning to regret my decision.
Does anyone know if this is a problem with android or can offer any advice.
I should mention that I don't understand the whole google mail thing, even though I have a account.
Also, i have tried and am very fed up with resetting to factory defaults in attempts to resolve my issue.
Thanks in advance.
It looks to me that the settings are correct, have you got that calendar showing? Settings, agenda's, select the work calendar.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Thanks for your reply weirder,
I should have mentioned (!) that that when I try to launch calendar I get the message
"sorry, the application calendar storage (process com.android.calendar) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again" with the only option to force close.
Presumably, when you say "Settings, agenda's, select the work calendar", I would only get these options if I could launch calendar?
Thanks
I would really appreciate some help here.
Does anyone else have issues with the calendar crashing or sync with outlook calendar.
Like many others, I really like this handset and am desperately hoping that samsung see fit to address the issues that spoil an otherwise superb product.
I want the new Tab when it's released in the uk, but am worried I'll have more of the same silly issues
I've not long changed from 2.1 to 2.2 andriod on my SGS. Ths standard exchange sync workd for me along with touchdown, i even had K9mail running as well until I sussed that I could use the phones exchange, and mainly used touchdown for tasks and calendar. TD calendar allows you to add a catogory.
2.2 is also working well for me i'm even using the 'push' hotmail setting on an exchange account.
Sorry it dosn't help you out though.
Well, I have nearly the same problem!
I have an own server running with Zarafa + Z-push. I can sync my contacts and mails without any problems, but my calender is unsynct. The only difference is, that I can use my phones calender and don't get a FC.
I played around a bit yesterday an found out something interesting.
Thx to adirtymonkey for the tip with touchdown.
Whe a use touchdown I can sync everything without any problems as long as I use Touchdown to manage the calendar and so on. Unfortunately the stock calendar ist empty. Contacs are visible in both, stock and touchdown. I recognized, that I can chose to insert new contacts either in phone, sim, goggle, business or touchdown. New calender entries can only go to own calender or google. Here is the problem, there is just the exchange (business) calender missing i think!
Before playing around with zarafa and z-push over Active sync I tried to use a SyncML client with egroupware. Here I hand a similar problem. Beside my business (exchange) account, it seemed that the syncML client (synthesis) made another accout and wanted to sync to this one. Trying to create a new account gave me alwas a FC, deleting synthesis helped to recover the problem.
Btw, I'm using JPC firmware atm. I will try JM7 these days.

You are right, its the settings in the calendar app.
FC isnt a good thing. Does it "Force close" if you remove the synchronisation to that exchange server? Or only if you got the sync enabled?
Could be there is a problem in there.
Dustymil59,
You are not alone, I experience the same issue in the past.
What I did to over come this (don't guarantee this will work, but at least it works for me)
I usually do this first time right after I flash my firmware and rooted, so you may need to consider to enter recovery mode and clear all user setting before you start this.
1. Setup one account one after the other.
Do not setup google and exchange at one go, and let the 2 accounts sync back to back.
Go to Settings > Account and Sync > Add Account.
2.I usually setup google account first (for market access), but I will only allow contact and gmail sync from google. I have calendar and picasa web sync disabled. Allow gmail and contact sync complete the run. You may also check that all your google contacts sync to your phone before move the step #3.
3. Setup exchange account after #2, the objective is to allow first Exchange sync without any issue. For the first timem allow only sync for 1 day (do not select even 3 days). And allow your exchange first sync run until it finish. (the sync duration vary, I have more than 3000 calendar events, my first sync takes around 30 min to complete).
My Setting > "Push", Sync for 1 day, sync contact, sync calendar (you can change the setting here after the first sync is completed)
4. While exchange sync is running, let the phone idle, do not leave the add account sync and do not attempt to on calendar while exchange calendar doing the first sync, high chance that you will experience force close and the sync will be halted.
5. To confirm the exchange calendar has been sync down without opening calendar, download agenda widget, pull it out at the desktop, configure it to show your exchange calendar by the "calendars" tab (do not touch on "Manage calendar" option in agenda widget setting too, FC is expected during your first exchange calendar sync)

}
You should see all your category at this tab before all the sync complete
PS: It's not that your calendar will not sync, but it will be come harder to get the entire calendar after the first attempt failed.
From my experience, I got the entire calendar sync down 1 week after my first attempt failed, that was because I leave my phone idle over the weekend.
PS again: Notice the email program allow you to setup a name (which is optional) at the end of the email setup, try to stick with the same name, else SGS will create multiple name in Agenda Widget and at the end confuse you yourself.
Let me know the step above helps.

Maybe I got lucky but I just setup my Exchage account in the Samsung email app (part of social hub) and everything seemed to work perfectly... calender, contacts and email, no problems or crashes.

my calendar has the following setup which i suspect makes the calendar sync tends to fail.
1. multiple repeated event (like every month end, need to have month reports preparation, weekly meeting and etc) with no end date
2. add in chinese lunar calendar as secondary calendar and have repeated event on that calendar
3. > 3,000 events (close to 4,000 now) within the last 2 years.
So you can see the amount of data sync is a lot.
Hi,
I have experienced a strange syncing behavior:
It does sync only in one direction: downwards.
If I make a new item in the calendar on my destop PC, it comes to my phone "immediately".
But if I make an appointment on the phone (and of course I choose the exchange calendar for the place), it won't show up on my desktop. I tried to sync manually, with Outlook running or closed, but no success, the appointment remains only on my phone...
Therefore this syncing method is totally useless for me...
firmware that you are using?
