Almost 100% Awake Time - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since I upgraded to DamageControl 2.09, I have been experiencing almost 100% awake time, and my "Sync" icon is constantly being displayed.
I didn't have this issue with 2.08, so I'm wondering what I can do to clear it up. Is anyone else having a similar issue?
Thanks in advance!

Is it unplugged from the wall/charger/computer? Have you stopped playing with it long enough to let it go to sleep?

Yep. I leave it sitting on the table most of the time... Seems like it's constantly trying to sync something, but I can't figure out what/why.

go into settings/applications/running processes. I bet obex service is running thanks to calendar and come.htc.bgp. If that's the case, killing that process is the only fix I've found. It's a bug in the Sprint 2.1 ROM upon which DC is based.

Odd, I'm running the same ROM and not getting this bug. Try wiping and reflashing. Don't install apps from backups. Install apps from scratch and only pick the ones you need first. I ran the ROM without any of the apps I like first and I've NEVER had this issue. Then I started adding apps directly from the market without using Titanium or any of the other backups. Worth a shot... for science, right?

Yeah, I decided to re-flash it last night, and it seems to be working fine now. uptime is about 15 hours, with awake at around 1.5 hours now. Much, much better.

Wow! Subcypher is right! I haven't used titanium backup since loading infinitex's deodexed sprint ROM and I have no problems with 100% awake time.

Froyo instability?

So I love froyo and for the past week that I've had it (via ota) it has been really great, but today I began having these sudden problems:
I can't install certain apps (market or sideloaded), even though I have plenty of room for them.
Random apps that are normally stable just crash out of the blue.
The phone just keeps slowing down and things are taking longer than they should for both 2.1 and 2.2.
The phone crashed today, meaning it decided to reboot on its own accord, once when I was running a few apps at once (something that I do almost every time I pick up the phone) and was switching between them, the second time was when I had some background processes and I was browsing the web.
I was just wondering if anyone else was experiencing these problems, and if you are did it just happen suddenly one day like me or was it from the beginning? I also want to know if anyone has suggestions or a diagnosis that I should consider before emailing google.
Thanks for all the help,
Liam

[Q] Serious Dialer Lag

Ok I am having some serious dialer lag. I am talking up to a minute to actually dialer a number that I have put in or chosen a contact before it actually dials. I am running the 2.1 update and don't know if this was an issue before this update as I just got the phone wihin the last month and downloaded the update right away.
I do use Advanced Task Killer and have killed everything before attempting to make a call but it is still just a laggy. I have also gone in and killed processes that are running like Sprint TV. Still have major lag issues.
Is there a way to fix this? I am getting so frustrated and am about to return the phone to Sprint!
For as cool as the Sense UI is, I don't think it was quite ready for the Hero.
Plus there are bugs that have been talked about quite a bit in the official 2.1 update for the Hero.
Hero + Sense = Dialer lag. Even after rooting and running a (mostly) much cleaner flavor of version 2.1, any rom I installed still had lag in the dialer app.
I finally scrapped Sense altogether and went with a vanilla aosp rom (darchdroid) and the whole device, including the dialer, runs smooth as butter. No lag at all.
Thank you!! I did try and run Drachroid 2.8 but it just kept looping on me so I do have another rom installed at the moment and will wait for a fix for 2.8. Any other Vanilla roms you would recommend?

It's possible that the bootloops happened to you because of the overclocked (OC) kernel in DarchDroid. Some phones cannot boot at overclocked speeds and will just bootloop while trying to load up.
The latest DD 2.8 already comes with an undervolted (UV) kernel, which some phones can boot better than the regular OC kernel, so it may just be that your phone doesn't like OC at all. Lots of phones here are like that.
Try flashing and booting DD2.8 on a FULL battery. You'll have a much better chance booting an OC kernel on a full battery, and while it's plugged into the charger still.
Another good Vanilla ROM I really liked was Ic3Rom, but it is no longer kept up so it's not as current as DD or the 2.2 Cyanogen Froyo ROM.
Good luck!
Try turning off the dialer sound in settings. That fixed the lag for me.
If you try the latest froyo nightly, it should boot, it's capped at 691- which is still overclocked but seems like everyone can boot.

I've been complaining to Sprint about the lag since before 2.1. Last night a Sprint tech said to come here for an "unofficial" way to get my phone running smooth, including rooting it to make it do things that aren't "supported." So after searching around here I see posts about Nandroid, rooting, backing up, restoring, and flashing roms. I've rooting iPod Touches but never a phone. I want to try this while I have hours to kill at work. Forgive the shortcutting but can you:
1. Point me to an updated step by step guide.
2. Point me to an updated recovery image.
3. Point me to an updated ROM that you PRAISE.
4. Pray for me.
Thanks,
Ken

Welcome to XDA! Just as an FYI, many of us here don't take too kindly to this. We have had to put in our time searching and reading -- it's only fair that you should too.
That being said, this thread will tell you how to root and will include a recovery image: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572
That's all you get from me Now it's up to you to browse around and find a ROM that you like best. No one here can tell you which one the "best" one is....it's all about personal preferences and tastes. Browse the Development forum and try several ROMs. Also check the Themes and Apps forum for cool extras. You'll soon find what you like.
Good luck, and make sure you do PLENTY of reading here before doing anything to your phone.

I am running a non OC version of aloyuisus and i am loving it nothing ever lags i don't run task killers. I get great battery life, last me all day with moderate use, if i tether i always make sure its plugged in otherwise its never plugged in until late night. I listen to Audible and mp3s and probably make about 1 - 1.5 hrs worth of calls a day.
no random reboots either,

I had this same problem. Even after rooting and installing fresh 2.3.3 it wasn't much better. I was almost to the point of taking the phone back to sprint when i found Cyanogenmod 6. I started with test 4 which was still pretty buggy but the current nightly that is out is awesome. FroYo is the best thing that has ever happened to my phone. No Lag, EVER.

That one statement can't be said enough.
Read, attempt to comprehend, read some more and then do the work.
There are some apps and / or scripts nowadays that will give you "1-click root", but I frown on these to be honest. There's too much "magic stuff" going on behind the scenes that you're not aware of and if an issue pops up, it's harder to backtrack to figure out what went wrong.
1-click root apps are fine, later on down the road when you're comfortable with the process and just want to get it done, but manually running through the steps to root, backup and finally flash a new rom is the best way to go.

Do not Restore Apps with Titanium Backup

This will give you horrible battery life. I already tried it. Restored all my Apps, and I just got the worst battery life. Wrote down all my apps, Hard Reset, and Installed them. I'm good to go now. It's just an advice. Remember that the restoration of the apps will come with remains of the older phone the apps were.
I can see that happening, but I'd think that it would have to be certain specific apps. Were you able to troubleshoot or weed out specific apps causing a problem? Did you only restore apps or also system data?

Only Apps. I think Juice Defender and most of the ones that required personalized settings were the ones that were causing the problems.
I need to get my Slingplayer loaded up and Titanium Backup has all the info.
Anybody know how to extract the info out of it for the login info for Slingplayer.

No. As I said before. I used the phone 1 whole day with no apps, just pure stock, and then the next day I used Titanium Backup and restored all my apps, and my phones battery went to hell.

I think the question is whether there is solid proof that restoring any app at all will cause you to suffer battery problems or if it was something specific you recovered.
I'm still skeptical, but what the hell, I bit.
I did a factory reset, and am going to use App Brain to re-install the apps, then restore the data over top of them from my Titanium Backups, because I'm lazy.
Nevermind, I see this was already asked.
Did you restore with data or just the apps? Because I could see how restoring with data could introduce problems.

This seems somewhat unlikely. Anyone report back with a wiped phone and clean-installs yet?
Ya to the op try app and not app+data. I bet that solves your problem. Wipe battery stats and record them for proof.

This is not proof. Correlation is not causation! I used my epic for the first day and it had a great battery life. Today I have horrible battery life and my time without signal is about 50%. I have not restored anything with titanium backup. I think you may be jumping the gun on the cause of your battery issues.

it may cause a problem like that if you restored the apps from a previous different device
So, I'm seeing better battery life today, but I don't think it's related to my wipe, because I still restored all apps + data from my Nexus using Titanium Backup.
I made sure not to restore flash though, and set the facebook app not to auto refresh, and didn't install the twitter app at all, since I dig the tweetdeck beta. I set the built in samsung facebook and twitter syncs to 6 hours this time vs 3 hours before...
And really, that's the only things that I can think of that are different. From about 7:30AM to 11:30, I had about 80% battery life (according to the bar). This includes some web browsing, and playing the angry birds demo for a bit. Charged the phone for an hour via my car charger during lunch, and when I left at 4:30, it was still at about 80%-ish, which is a huge improvement over yesterday.
Too late its Bricked
Never had a problem here. I always use Titanium to restore my apps. I've done one-by-one, and full batch restore.

Help, tab very slow after 5-10min

After using my tab for 5-10min after a restart, my tab become very slow, to the point of it being unusable. I haven't installed any new apps, just updated some from marketplace, which I deleted. It started this morning. I'm running stock jjb Tmo usa. My tab is also rooted just to freeze some application with T. Backup.
Anyone else experience this? What could I try?

install advanced task killer and check what you have running. Kill some apps and see which helps.
once you have found the cause uninstall it and find alternative, If its a system app freeze it or uninstall it with systemapp remover.
I hardreset my tab yesterday, I kept some apps using titanium backup, only the important stuff and I have to say, it's way much faster.
I had several lags and crashes but now Im good
Ok I did a hard reset and my tab was working fine for a few days and now it's back doing the same, going really really slow after a few min of using it. I killed all apps and not even a spec faster... Is it my tab? Should I format internal SD card?

Sorry to say but don't use Task Killer. It won't help since it only lists what is residing in memory without any other useful info on what to kill.
The most you can do with it , is blindly killing them which doesn't help with the performance or might break something else. The best alternative is Active Apps or watchdog lite which monitors application's CPU usage.
A tip if you just start Android,
Try to use back button ( Close Application) rather than Home ( Put application on standby mode). If you forgot to close applications, try to use Active Apps / Samsung Task Manager to see if anything is left running and close them.
Hope this helps.

Had my Tab for several months now using Launcher Pro and various roms without the problems you're having.
Are you using a custom kernel with overclocking and profiles? If so try reverting to stock speed (1000MHz) without profiles.
You could also try a full wipe and reinstall rom without any apps and see what happens. If ok install apps one at a time and test and see which app, if any, causes the problem
look in errlog
download error log from marked and see if u have continues errors.. close any 3d party apps and start the logger, then start any 3rd party 1by1 and see if it generates errors..
I'm running pure stock, us tmo jjb rom. I'm rooted but left rom alone. No overclocking either.
I downloaded log toast, anything special i should look out for? There's a lot of info, don't know what to make of it.
If It keeps happening, might just install new rom.

Ok so i installed log toast and i was monitoring all the errors on my tab. After a fresh restart, i was looking at this thing get errors for:
E BluetoothAudioGateway.cpp(2573)
Pollhup detected
It kept showing over and over and over, but no slow down...I think it was because i had bluetooth turned on.
So right when it started to slowdown really bad, keep in mind that i kept it on the home screen and wasn't using it, just connected to charger and that's it, i started getting a new error message:
E IMGSRV(2497)
PVRSRVEventObjectWait Timeout!
Anyone know what this means??

Actually my experience with Advance Task Killer (ATK) is that there is never a remarkable improvement! When you kill apps listed as running sometimes freed memory report seem to be temperamental - reduced, no change, increase...
The shocking thing is that killed processes quickly reappears in the list again!
Is there a better app than ATK out there that truly terminates and frees memory?
Ta.
