[KERNEL] Stock Vibrant Kernel - Vibrant Android Development

I worked with rhcp and kopykatkiller on IRC today to get this put together.
rhcp had a stock phone, he used the following command to dump a stock kernel image for me:
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/bml7 of=/sdcard/bml7.img
I then packaged the kernel as the following:
mv bml7.img zImage
tar --format=ustar -cf kernel-vibrant-stock.tar zImage
md5sum -t kernel-recovery-vibrant-stock.tar >> kernel-recovery-vibrant-stock.tar
mv kernel-recovery-vibrant-stock.tar kernel-recovery-vibrant-stock.tar.md5
kopykatkiller had a Clockwork Kernel installed. He was able to use Odin to flash back to a *stock* kernel.

Np bro. Any help you need just give a ring

If someone with a rooted captiva can make a default stock kernel and post here using the directections above. that would be good for us.

Damn I wish I know more of how to this ish so I could help. You guys are my heroes!

So this will let you go back to stock rom before root or am I missing something

This just replaces the kernel/recovery in case you flashed one of the betas and are having issues.

Well, ran that command on my stock rooted captive (yes, used the one click Odin to go back to stock, like rotation and speed too much, lol)

So, following our commands. you created this? and it works on your captiva? Just like it did before?
Just want to be clear

No, but I ran the clockwork beta kernel/recovery last night, had a few small issues, and used the stock firmware flasher from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989 so I rooted it and DD'd it, so its not tar'd or flashable, seems easy enough to tar it, ill let anyone who needs it do that ;-)

Here is the captivates stock kernel. I took what jmhalder uploaded and tar'd it up using koush's commands. Warning: I have not tried this on my captivate yet because I don't have Windows on my computer so I can't use Odin. So be warned that this isn't tested and take no responsibility for any damages.

Will try this tom when I get Windows installed on my machine.

I know this is the wrong section but how do i get into download mode to reflash this when the phone is off...i know with the galaxy s EU version and others it has a real home button and you can press volume up down + home, then power for 2 sec, then release and it will come up..the vibrant doesn't have a real home button...so can u not get to it if your firmware is corrupt and your getting the phone + warning sign + pc screen?

From what I've seen so far if you are getting the phone + warning sign + pc screen you can always get back to download mode to flash back to stock. I've heard people say that it is very difficult to brick this phone because you can always(dont quote me) get back to a point to flash your phone.
Here are the steps that psychoace posted in the Clockwork Recovery thread here
I'm not positive but this should work for the Vibrant also.

follow these commands while odin3 is opened.
"SIM+SD out, put the battery in. Plug in USB. Hold down both Volume keys, and then push power. Hold it. From the phone > pc screen, hold vol +/- and power, wait til it goes black then returns to that screen. When it goes black the 2nd time release power. " That should put you in download mode to install the leshak kernel i posted a few pages back.

welcome man, anything to help

Word. So, now we have a stock TMO / ATT kernel.
Can you please tell us which of the two ATT posted kernels is the real one?
Thanks

well, the one I posted is most definately real, and stock for the captivate... however, I didnt tar it, only posted it in its raw format (albeit zipped), the user following me, took my kernel and compressed it with the commands listed in the original post from Koush... so they are both REAL, only the second can be used with Odin to flash back to stock (kernel).

[Q] need help with flashing
I know all the info on here is very usefull but too many people assume us noobs know all the lingo,I managed to root have s.u. and rom manager, ive flashed cwm, backed up everything 3 times with tit bu,dbox and desktop and ext hrd dve,I have cog, andromeda, perception all downloaded and put on sd card as .zip , when i choose dl rom from sd card and check the 3 pre inst options my phone then goes into the bootmode with options to (re-boot now, wipe all user data,re install packages , wipe cache. Iam scared to do the wipe system and user data but have tried the re boot now,re inst packages and wipe cache all which just re boot as though im shutting the phone off and back on again. i need to know if i have to choose the wipe system and user data and when i do what do i do from there I NEED DETAILS step by step, also i dont understand all this odin stuff
Are you able to get into CWM recovery. It's the green one. Choose install .zip from sd card. If it's blue, you're still at the Android recovery. Choose install update.zip, do it until CWM recovery green boots up. Then choose install .zip from sd card. Locate your rom on the sd card and install.

remember when i told you you should read the info in the forums?
it applies here too.
you are 'clayed' soft-brick if you will.....use ODIN to get back to stock....and stop messing with your phone until you understand wtf you are doing....
[Q] just flashed to att 2.1
I screwed up my phone and used odin to get it to master clear i was rogers 2.2 stock now my phone is att 2.1 eclair,i had all my stuff backed up with tit bu,what do i need to do now to get my phone back because right now its like a brand new att which i dont want
i know i know,im tryna learn..trial and error i guess, I got it to work by using odin but now its a 2.1 like a brand new phone how do i get all my stuff from titanium or is it easier to flash a new rom from where i am now
btw im on rogers stock 2.2
flash a 2.2 kernel with odin, that has CWM baked into it (hint, nearly all of them do) and then flash straight from CWM....

My thought would be to shuck off your mortal Froyo coils and move on to one of the great Gingerbread roms such as Continuum 5.5, GR-12, Serendipity vII, or Mosaic III (JVH is good but JVO is better).
CAREFULLY read ALL instructions!! The devs here are remarkably knowledgable but sometimes forget the word everything out fully for the noob.
ODIN flashes happen when your phone is in Download Mode (yellow triangle). CWM flashes happen in Recovery mode (must flash a file that has been transferred to the phone previously).
FROYO: Download Mode = Hold Both Volume Buttons and plug in your data cable. (Make sure ODIN is running on your computer first) - - Recovery Mode = Hold both volume buttons AND power button (wait until kernel image flashes a second time and then let go of all buttons) - - GINGERBREAD: Download Mode = Hold only BOTTOM volume button and plug in your data cable. - - Recovery Mode = Hold TOP volume button AND power button until kernel image flashes a second time and let go of all buttons.
Flash one of these packages if you are on a Rogers Captivate...

Hey man love your videos, the guy at the phone store got my phone working, but it is now a att 2.2,it doesnt have a enable non market apps option so my titanium wont restore my back up can i use this odin link to flash that stock rogers rom

[Q] Is this bricked for good?

This should be quick.
So I was using the Captivate AIO, but I flashed some drivers from the "Flashing ROMs on the Captivate" thread instead of the AIO. This is on Windows XP 32-bit.
Before I flashed the stock ROM the phone was already having a voice telling me things that I couldn't understand when I tried starting normally. I think data partition was corrupt or something.
I thought something was wrong because I had to use Vol - to get into download mode, so I flashed 3 button fix version. First time failed for some reason, so I unplug and restart again. Second time fails at SetupConnection, so I try the third time, which seems to work. Download goes through, Success! is shown in the box where there was the indicator of what was being flashed. The phone seems to shut down or restart once finished.
Now, for some reason the phone now refuses to start up or anything. Putting in the battery and trying the power button gives me nothing. Holding Vol+ and Vol- with USB plugged in and then putting in battery is nothing. No bootloop, no indication of anything, just black screen.
Is this permabricked?
Yes, you are hard bricked. You had the I9000 gingerbread bootloaders, hence the different button combos, you flash the 3 button fix which is just a froyo sbl.bin (secondary bootloader) but you still have a gingerbread boot.bin(primitive bootloader) so the pbl can't transition into the sbl because they are incompatible.
You can get jtag from mobiletechvideos.com for $50
Or find a user named adam outler I believe he offers jtagging for $30 (here is his user profile just shoot him a pm: http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=3682533 )
Or you could try your hands st a warranty replacement....but that would require a little loose morals and a story (lie) about what happened.
I'll take the JTAG as a 50 dollar lesson learned.
Do you know where these guys are located (physically)? I see there's a paypal but I don't see any way to really send it out to them.
You could always use adam outlers help....!
He has unbricked many captivates and is really good,my suggestion would be just pm him once before you decide doing anything....!

Josh from mobile tech lives in texas. Austin I believe.
Adam outler lives in louisiana.
Already ordered the JTAG service from their website, the Captivate is definitely a far cry from what's a relatively easy flashing process for the Desire HD.
Just to be sure, the process goes by Odin3 1 click flashback to stock, then root, then custom ROM, then..?

no.
flashing back to stock is not required to flash a rom
rooting is not required to flash a rom
if you are on stock 2.2 with 3e recovery, then just odin a custom kernel that has CWM built in, flash your rom
if you are on 2.1 with 2e recovery, just drop the update.zip that rom manager makes onto your sdcard, reboot to recovery, reinstall packages twice, then you will be in CWM. flash your rom

Gah, the guides on the dev section all seem to really stress the need to go back to stock before flashing.
Is it possible/okay to just do a full wipe in CWR, then flash the ROM in recovery if it allows for it, or is this more nuanced than I think it is?
Most roms actually have a wipe script in then so all you really need is to just flash it...but if you want to make extra sure its a clean flash then yes full wipe in recovery then flash.
Unless it is a gingerbread rom and you have eclair/froyo bootloaders. Then you would need to flash those with odin/heimdall and then the rom in recovery. But if you already have ginger boots then the above still applies.

Flashing back to stock is optional, you should be able to flash any rom via the cwm, follow these steps:
In the cwm menu
1.wipe data
2.wipe cache
3.go to advanced cwm features and wipe dalvik cache
4.then install zip from sd card
5.choose zip from sd card
6.install it and reboot....!
will work for all android versions, but make sure you dont mess up the bootloaders

Lol I do that all the time.
us in team phoenix call that ninja-ing.
Well, at least now I know what to do next time when it comes back.
Better yet what NOT to do.
Do not flash the 3 button fix if you have gingerbread bootloaders.
Anymore "DON'T DO THIS EVER" words of wisdom?

I charge $30 per unit. I use a different method. I apply a header to the device which is plug-n-play from then on. It's a piece which Samsung left off the board to save $1.75 per unit. http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Panasonic/AXT612124/?qs=2rFUEsTwVNwSdqVM5XnLHw==

Need help stuck in 2e recovery

I got my phone rooted and then i proceeded to install rom manger to install CWM recovery. After that i rebooted the phone and ended up taking me to the original 2e recovery. Now I am basically stuck here, even after taking the battery out. I searched for a day and cant seem to find a solution.
Can anyone help please?
If you do a battery pull, there's really no way it will boot back into recovery—I'm sure it always boots into the OS by default.
Uhm, yeah.. I really don't know what to tell you.
Maybe leave the battery out for a bit?
haha i've tried that. its been a day. when i pull the battery it boots right back to 2e recovery. and it basically shows "reboot system now" "apply sd card.update.zip" "wipe data" blah blah blah it will let me highlight them but not select them because i dont have a okay key.
So i've been searching and i'm basically trying to flash back to stock firmware via odin. Will reply with an update and see what happens.
good news i got it to work. =D can close this thread.
Glad to hear it!
For future reference, selecting the option should be the home button or the power button (I can never remember all these things ).
ok sorry to reply again but basically i'm stuck again..when i go into recovery mode.. i cannot select an option.. home or power button doesnt seem to work. and basically to get out of recovery i would have to pull the battery.
To fix this .. would i need to do the 3 button fix? if so i've been looking for one and cant seem to find the right one because the ones i tried seem to don't work
do you think you can help a solution? thanks

No need to apologize, we're here to help.
The volume buttons should control scrolling up or down, and home/power (can't remember, it seems to be different with various recoveries) should be to select the option.
So you don't have access to the 3-button recovery/download mode? I would suggest getting that working, and then flashing a better firmware with Odin. But do not start flashing stuff until you have download mode working, otherwise you risk bricking your phone. If download mode works, you can fix most issues you'll come across by simply flashing a stable firmware (or re-flashing the same firmware, if you caused it to malfunction, bootloop, etc).
Are you running stock firmware right now?
If you can't do anything flash a rom via odin and install cf-root kernel. This is a stock kernel with Superuser and CWM3 in this kernel. Make sure you can enter download mode with 3-button combo. Voldown+home+power.
If you don't have 3-button combo. It may disabled in your kernel. You can flash a kernel via odin what enables 3button combo but at your own risk. It may brick your phone. You can easily get download mode without 3 button combo with an Micro USB jig. This is a little stuff with a 301KOhms ressistor what shorts pin 4 and 5. You can make at home very easy or buy one from ebay.
thanks for the replies!! and sorry for my late reply.
so heres my deal. i can get into download mode and i flashed cf-root kernel via odin. so like you said its a stock kernel with superuser and root. and i dont think it comes with cwm because when i go to recovery its 2e recovery and from there i cannot even use the ok key or it doesn't let me so i have to pull my battery.
So i proceed to download rom manager and flash cwm recovery from there, then when i try to go to recovery again, i'm stuck there. i cannot even boot up to my rom and whatever i do i'll end up in 2e recovery until i pull my battery.
it's an on going cycle of doing this over and over because i cannot use to ok key in recovery.
this sucks because i've rooted other phones like nexus one, g2x and g2 and the samsung galaxy seems the hardest ...

It shouldn't be hard, it should be be simple.
Since you flashed the kernel that has CWM, are you sure you don't hace CWM? You should. Something is obviously wrong here. Youtube some videos to confirm which recovery you have.
Put your device in download mode and use this:

one question i have is that.. how come when i flash cwm recovery via rom manager, it doesn't have cwm? it just says at 2e or 3e recovery?

[Q] Brick Challenge lvl hard - Milestone stucks on bootload

Whats up cheers!
After try flash a droid kernel, my milestone stucks on the bootload on this err:A5,69,4E,00,23 (version 90.78). But, i can access the normal bootload with no error, pressing UP when the phone starts.
The RSDLite recognise my device, but without any informations (before it, when I had flashed the vunerable recovery, a lot of infos, like the OMAP platform appears on the screen).
I can access the recovery screen, but without the menu, just the /!\ image (my device don't work with VolUp+Cam [the buttons work perfectly on the android], to install my CM7 custom rom i had to instal some scripts on the stock rom, but the device don't starts anymore, so i can't install any script).
So, I think, if I can open the recovery menu and re-install the cm7 my brick will be back, but HOW? Exists a mod to work this way?
Sorry for my bad english, i'm brazilian.

As long as RSDlite sees the device, you should be able to SBF back to stock. Once you are back to stock you can go through the root process again, install Open Recovery, and then you will be able to restore your nandroid backup.
Another option is, and I don't know anything about the Open Recovery for Milestones, but some custom recoveries have a way of cold booting straight into the recovery. If you can find out how to do that then you are golden, if not then you will have to SBF.

Try these two things, if they don't work then I think you are stuck with SBFing.
From phone off state - Hold Power+X. When you get to the triangle with !, try either VolUp+VolDown or VolUp+Camera. If you don't get into the recovery that way, try:
From phone off state - Hold Power+Camera. If that gets you to a triangle with ! then try the same key combinations from above.
If neither of those work for you, then SBF your phone and start over. If you get bootloops after SBFing, boot into the stock recovery with Power+X and wipe data/factory reset.

I had downloaded the Brazi Retail one on this link: sbf.droid-developers(dot)org/umts_sholes/list.php (I can't link before 10 posts, change the (dot))
But, before the flash, i saw a problem: The A853 SBF is only for Canada, the rest, i think, may be for the Droid, and not for the Milestone.
Please, help me one more time! How version I need?

All of those should be for the Milestone. Any of the Brazilian ones should work for you, they are most likely just different versions of the OS. If you press back in the upper left hand corner of that page it shows that the Droid (A854,A855) has it's own download area. All the Brazilian ones seem to be the SHLA SBF's and I believe that is what you are looking for.

haha, not sure I've been on here long enough to have friends to call upon. I'll go through that list again tomorrow and see if I can figure out what went wrong.
Are you running RSDLite as Administrator? If that is not the issue, try to shorten the path and filename (you have a space in your path? (M MS)). You could also try to use earlier versions of RSD, I used 4.9 with no problems (mostly).

The file can be found here: sbf.droid-developers . org/umts_sholes/list.php is a retail brazilian version (about 116 mb)
RSD Lite version used: 5.6 (without adm permitions)
OS: Win 7
The file has renamed as stck.sbf and putted on the C:\ root directory

Which modem are you on and which one are you looking for? Wifi works fine with NE5 modem.
Yesterday, I have added another couple of modems with wifi fixes, you can look below flashing instructions in th OP.
Great! NE5 works fine :good: Thanks a lot!
Where can I find the basebands as well as modems?
mine does not match, and therefor my in call sound screws around.
I've read and searched and found solutions, but can't find the source of files
I'm currently on bootloader XXUAMI3 and basebandXXUCNH2
running CM12

Baseband is the term used for modem in the about phone in settings.
You seem to be on the old bootloader and may have to upgrade to 4.4.2 to solve the in call issue
Do you know where I can find the bootloaders? Or is it included in the roms?

Bootloader is included in the firmware. I do have a CWM flashable zip of the CNE5 firmware that I had made but has not been tested (I have personally flashed over same firmware without any issues, it goes through). It includes the modem & non-holos that you can delete before flashing. If you want to try you can get it from my GDrive https://docs.google.com/file/d/0ByY8uLVuRKD2ZHc0NGFsNjhPalk/edit?usp=docslist_api.
Put in the root of your internal sdcard. Power off and manully boot into recovery and flash.
Thanks Jason. I downloaded your file and then did the following
1. Removed non-holos and modem, rezipped, added to phone, switched off, into recovery and installed. Still the same bootloader.
2. Tried your file as is, i could just reload the modem later. All fine, but when i checked, it's still the same bootloader.
Any ideas?

In case you have not yet flashed the CNH2 firmware, it would be a good idea to flash the CNE5 firmware as it does not have knox. You can get it from this link and then flash the modem you want separately.

Enter download mode only after complete power off. Do not attempt to enter download mode from phone software menu or by holding Vol- when rebooting.
Lots of guides say double flashing is needed to "make it stick" [emoji15] Jasonrr and allram among others advice this unnecessary because download mode is entered wrong.
Jason Gdrive instructions
"Open Odin -> Untick Autoreboot -> Flash modem.bin in Phone part, reboot phone to download mode again and reflash modem.bin, same procedure with NON-Hlos.bin, flash twice -> reboot to ROM and check baseband version"
Allram http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=54959047
Both equally missing how to flash only once.
Here's what you need to flash safely, and I'm not telling you to select this or that modems. Read and choose what best fit your needs:

If you refer to the post above you will see that I have said to power off & manually boot into recovery & Never have I had to double flash any firmware or modem. So I really cannot understand the reason for this post.
Yes only once I had recommended it to someone who complained that after a couple of tries he was unable to flash & sometimes unothodox methods work.
thanks for that link Jason. The download and flash did not work. there must have been something wrong with the download i tried from sammobile. I ended up restoring a backup of slimkat I had after a couple of hrs struggling.
busy downloading the CNE5 one
And yes thanks O-T . I saw your posts on that when I" was searching for a solution the last couple of days. also the Power and volume up/down.
I came from SII so when I first tried with the home and it worked I assumed it was correct. now I can pick my nose while entering recovery/downoad
I see Jason tried to correct the modem flashing guide on his Gdrive, still some strange lines.
"...
Boot into download mode by holding power down + power key
...
Connect USB Cable"
Where is power down key?
Hardware key on the left side control sound dB level up and down. Guess this is the one. Most others call it volume key. System settings also use Volume.
Flashing by USB need connection to 5V powered plug. Lot of frustration from failed flash by USB hub can be avoided by emphasize to connect cable directly to computer USB.
Please read my thread. Use it instead of rewrite what's there. I will correct if you find something is missing.
