waiting for 2.2 for wildfire...

checking http://twitter.com/#search?q=wildfire froyo
I hope, it will be soon...

I have bad news from HTC them self, If your a 3 Pay or Virgin Customer you WILL NOT get the over the air update, also if you have disabled virgins home screen you might see why if it was 3pay config why the update does not work HTC send out the wildfires to virgin still load with 3pays programs just hidden with virgins home screen, but HTC told me to day.
HTC said:
At this moment in time we are still releasing the 2.2 upgrade for the HTC Desire. It is more than likely that the HTC Wildfire will get this upgrade, but we need to finish sending it to the HTC Desires first. Unfortunately I cannot give you a time scale on this. It will be posted on our webpage, www.htc.com, when there is more information available. 2.2 is currently the highest ROM version out. This upgrade itself is only available over the air, it is not located on our website. Providing you are not branded to the 3 or Virgin networks, you will receive this upgrade. The upgrade is having to be released in batches as the servers will not ba able to send out the upgrade to everyone at once. Your phone automatically searches for upgrades every 14 days, there will be a notification pop up on your phone when this is available for downloading.

I can only HOPE that they will let the 3pay and virgin handests have the stock update, virgin contact HTC and was told there devices would have the update but HTC tell me no live update whats strange when virgin uses the t-mobile nextwork so I can only think this has something to do with under the hud its still a 3pay device.
I will update you on any other replys the company as to say as I replyed to them with what virgin have told me and virgin have also seen that they are 3pay device under the hud I told them how to do it to view it also look in your programs list the 3 pay apps are listed there without a problem for people that like larncher pro or panda home will also see the icons come back so you might need to re hid them.

Dont worry about the update.
I mean, its gonna be great when it comes, BUT i'd suggest NOT TO download the over the air (OTA) update when it becomes available on your wildfire!
Reason:
it will probably be the same as with the HTC Desire: the OTA update will not be able to root anymore! PROBABLY.. well most most most likely.
So i suggest you guys wait up for some developers to show up here, and make a root and recovery image for your device, so you can start making custom roms based on official 2.2 when it becomes available.
Custom roms will have all that official has, PLUS extra goodies and optimization, so it will be worth waiting. If you will flash an official 2.2 over your phone, you might not be able to get a custom rom... EVER!
Its up for you guys to decide. Patience is the key!

I don't get that options I have to keep it official for at lest 2 years thats how long the phone is supported for on my contact if I just got the phone from ebay or htc them self I would already have a cocked version but i don't get that option this this case lol.

Im sorry, i really tried to get it right, read your post 6 times but cant figure it out can u try in diferent words?
Flashing a rom voids your waranty - if u take a custom flashed rom to your phone service. if u unroot ur phone and flash original rom before u take ur phone to the service to fix it, your waranty becomes alive again as if nothing ever happened.
But
If you update your phone with htc official ota froyo, you wont be able to loose waranty because u wont be able to root ur phone, ever (or at least not for a long time, until some dev finds a way).
I didnt get the ebay part. If u bought the phone on ebay you wouldnt have waranty for 2 years because the seller wouldnt offer u one, like the official phone company that has to give u 2 years waranty. And u haveto keep it official only if u want to have a valid waranty, if not you fflash a custom rom and you are in sameel position if u bought the phone on ebay.
Thats what i could read from ur post, if u meant anything diferent, please tell, i stand corrected.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

OK a rom installing will void your worranty the defailt virgin rom is not avable for download so how can you refalsh it back? I was talking about Virgin devices NOT all others, HTC are not doing a Over the air update for virgin or 3 pay users any time soon this was from HTC them selfs, I never said I got mine from ebay I said if you did get it from ebay then yes adding a new rom is all kool but my is with virgin on contact there for unable to change the rom as I can't get my hands on this rom.
am i going to root it? no why, cos not seen a stable root yet so dumbing my own rom is out of the question.
I can't really see what I am typing so sorry if this is is harder to read, I am dislexic so spelling not my fortay lol I am happy to explain things again
Peace.

Oooh right makes sense now so virgin is like a mobile provider like orange or O2. And u asked if i bought it on ebay i dunno how i missed that part lol
Right to explain a bit, i got my desire on a 2 year contract as well however rules in our country demand our providers not to lock the phones down, means we buy a phone on contract.with one provider and u can freely use any providers sim card and their networkas long as u are.still paying the monthly fee of the contract.
Its same thing with desire - branded.phones will get froyo later. But when u rootbur phone to flash a custom rom, the brand doesnt matter anymore as it becomes unlocked. As well as voids waranty.
But its aall a lot easier for the desire coz the support is so much better, wildfire is well... really limited when it comes to custom roms as its a lot slower and diferent procesor as.well as less ram and that all causes devs problems in cooking a good rom. So it might take a while to get a better rom.
Besides not so many new things on froyo that eclair doesnt have. Ok there are some goodies of course, but kany people dont use it on a daily baisis so its really nothing you guys are missing. U will loose more by flasing an ota froyo than waiting for a good custom rom to he made based on froyo after a while.
But, if any of u have a chance to give some extra money, go buy a.desire instead. Seriously, my friend bought a wildfire and when i saw it... its just not a quarter of a desire. Maybe u dont see it when u never held a desire before, but when u get used of desires amoled u just can stand an hour with wildfire. Not to mention the speed and xda support and custom roms.
Desire in my country costs 300 eur on 2 year contract for 15eur per month, its worth every cent, i would never buy a wildfire that costs 130 eur on same contract. I would feel i wasted at least 100eur for a bad cause.
If u get a chance buy a desire u will love it i guarantee u. Lol i think i will cuarge the htc for advertisuing their phone, but its just an insane device and i think im good with phones for couple of years since this is my laptom ib 3.7 inch version
Sent from my HTC Desire

I have used side by side the wildfire and desire yes the screen and gaming is better on the desire but using the default HTC home screen and all the HTC bulk my wild fire was faster and better to handle the same HTC Sences takes, and your right the wild fire is half the size but does not make it less of a device, my phone is not a gaming system so I don't care in the game speed, in my tests the wildfire as been tweeked where the desire fell, and well HTC had time to do this with the wildfire, but just cos its a slower profess and less ram is like saying my P4 dual ore is not as good as my P4 Core 2 duo, my systems both have tasks that one is better then the other at.
The desire is wast of money in my eyes, my htc hd2 is way better phone so since i don't need it for gaming I jumped for the wildfire.
I wont be adding a cooked rom to my device this is what I am stating and virgin mobile users wont be getting the update far as HTC care right now, they say there not sure there still might release a stock version but in there words the desire they have had a problem with the update on that handset HTC stated this not me.
The desire is not a bad handset before you have a go at me but that does not make it a better hand set over the wildfire.

Selling G1 - What ROM should I put on it?

I am thinking of selling my G1 to upgrade (although I haven't really decided what to go for), and this will be partially financed by selling my G1. Originally I thought that was not going to bring in much, before I learnt that another guy from a different forum had sold his at a decent price (2k Norwegian kroner for those who might wonder and know what a krone is. )
But I am then faced with the following problem: What ROM to sell it with?
It is a UK Tmobile G1, so it would make sense to ship it with with Tmobile 1.6 ROM, but Tmobile does not exist in Norway, and neither does (luckilly) Operator-branded (and crippled) devices, with a few exceptions.
So I was thinking about installing the HTC ADP 1.6 ROM. But as far as I know, if I flash that, it would replace the amon ra bootloader I'm currently using, and thus it would losse some value for a geek who wants to try custom roms, but don't want to have to root it. There is always the defanged one I guess, but then again, thats not an official release.
I don't know of any custom ROM that is stable enough to ship it with, and I don't want a return because it doesn't work, reboots etc. At least if it contains an official ROM, I can say: That's how it is, that's the official version, you can complain to TC/Tmobile if you don't like it.
I want it to be attractive to as many buyers as possible, as the market for it is probably not that big.
Maybe I should just sell it as a "HTC Dream from UK, also known as G1", include a notice at the bottom that it can be delivered with a "custom ROM" if the buyer wants it) and ship it with the HTC ROM if the buyer soesn't request anything?
And maybe I am just tired and over-thinking it right now? xD
i think you should ask the buyer which rom he would prefer...give him a list of fast and most working rom...with camera working...or you can always put cyanogenmod and put CM updater ...if not you can put eclair 2.1 since its not yet pushed out on g1s...
I've seen a G1 on ebay that had Hero rom and was unlocked. It was selling for 250 last time I saw it...probably about 280 for final price. Good luck with the selling =)
What I'm afraid of is that talk about ROMs will scare of people who are not in the know, and those who are pay less.
Speaking of eclair 2.1, OpenEclair was so damn sweet and smooth, so now I need to keep it and play with it for a little while longer. Problem is, if I wait too long, it will be impossible to sell, but the perfect phone hasn't arrived yet. Milestone with snapdragon and 512MB RAM, now that would be something to jump at.
I heard that T-mobile is pushing out Eclair updates on G1...so i think you should go with a hero rom. Also if you put Amon RA Recovery...you can provide the buyer with a small user guide on how to make backup / save a rom and switch a rom...oooooo i have an idea...maybe you should put like 1 donut, 1 hero, 1 eclair, 1 cyanogenmod.....i dont think anyone have introduced this idea before (I get the copyright okey)....and explain to the user little about how switching rom and stuff...also some definition like "wiping" "flashing" "fix_permission" etc etc..

I think you should put 2.1 hero or espresso on the phone if you want. You could always put a eclair if you want to. I doubt the buyer knows what roms are and you should keep that part hush hush.
Yeah, but the problem is when calls or sms are dropped, everything goes super slow, they take out the sd card while the phone i on, etc. etc. Then they get mad.

Thats a good idea. Just load up a bunch of ROMs on it, then save a Nandroid+EXT backup for each ROM on the SD.
just put the tmobile one on there.

Make sure your not using a EXT partition either, just plain with a enom rom.Plus the 2.0 OTA was rumored to have gone airborne so you might not wanna put any ol rom.
OOOOOORRRRRRR you could put enomther's TheOfficial which is stock with root access
Let the buyer decide. For all you know, maybe you end up with a buyer who don't care about YouTube/camcorder and would sacrifice those to run Eclair.
yea...let the buyer decide...also i think you should inform him the things he gonna miss for each rom...like camera /bluetooth...colverdale's nexus one eclair rom has everything...except youtube HD videos...
I recommend MghtyMax ROM. Very fast and stable.

Diamond, should I?

Hello guys!
I've got nice price for my Desire, so I'm going to sell it. Since my Leo took a shower few weeks back it is dead. But, I've found a Diamond, not used. And the price is very low. About 1/3 of what I get for my Desire. BUT, I only want this if I can install Android on it.
I've found this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=601751), does this realy work? If it does, I'm going to buy this in this week.
I've waiting for Evo, but since it is not available in my country (yet), I want to buy something "cheap" and use it when I wait for my Evo and then have it as my backup mobile.
Well, let me make the long short, does this phone with Android (If it is possible) work for everyday use? I've read that lots of "Force Close" pops up?
Thanks in advance
Lots of respect for XDANDROID ... I am using it (and continuously update to the newest build) ... but not as a productive system for daily use.
Two main reasons for me:
1. battery consumption improved but still ..
2. limited memory of the Diamond ...
You may go through the thread of XDANDROID to see further comments ...
BTW, there is also XDANDROID 2.2 out now (alpha though)
Cheers!

Hello! Thanks for your answer.
I've just found this:
http://www.androidonhtc.com/wiki/Port_Status
But I understand what you mean. I also forgot that this phone has no memory card slot (?) I've going to need this...
First off,I'm sorry about your Leo...May it rest in peace...
The Diamond is a really good phone and by far the most beautiful one that I have got my hands onto, but it's a 2 year old device. It was the top back in 2008,but now it's really...moderate!But why would you want to sell your Desire?Keep it until the Evo comes to your country(which is by the way...?) and then sell it!

I've also miss my Leo!
I know the Diamond, my girlfriend has it Yeah, it is old but this does not matter for me if I can install Android on it. The reason why I sell my Desire is cause I got very good price for it. I'm from Norway.
I've also saw that few hours ago HD2 booted with Linux, maybe I should get a new HD2 and use it with Android. That would be awsome! But this will take a long time tou...

For sure, I'm going to buy new. My point was that Android can't be far away from running on HD2
If you want Android I wouldn't recommend the HD2.Yes,it's one of the best out there and now there is an Android port, but such a port has been available for the Diamond and its compatibles for a very long time now and it's not usable for everyday use.No disrespect to the work that's being done,I really appreciate it and use it on my Diamond, but I have it as a backup phone so it doesn't really matter to me if it works flawlessly as I use my Hero everyday.Android on HD2 is in very early stages, not even open for anyone to try and I think it will be a long time before we see it working efficiently.

Yes, I understand your point. And by my post above yours I meant about 5-6 months with short time
Maybe it takes longer may not, the thing is, I don't know when Evo wil be available in my country...

My friend I think that neither you nor I will get an Evo in our countries...It seems that smartphone companies are on a US-frenzy sort of thing and release all the good stuff there these days...What we get?One device in our market for every 10 devices in the American market...

.. Is the milestone ... Outdated ?

i am about to buy a smartphone (for the first time since my dumbphone SE W595)
and i want something perfect that'll stay with me like 2 years or so
i checked all of the new phones (Desire + n1 + Galaxy S and millions!) and honestly even with all these teachy stuff and zippy processor .. i didn't like a phone more than the Milestone
Big screen + QWERTY keyboard + pretty good camera for a go-go price !
but .. it was released on the end of 2009 and have a 550MHz (though it can be overclocked anytime) and that locked bootloader (ugh!)
wat i want on a phone is 1-watch movies & videos , 2-loading my almost 5500 set of music in it 3- hardcore 3D gaming , 4-good camera , 5-QWERTY (regular teenager stuff) and Android !
is it really the right phone for me or i should wait for something better (e.g Milestone 2?) (as the international Droid 2) ?
Regards , Mike
I would wait, the milestone has been out for a while now and there should be some new models coming out soon. If I were you I would wait for a new qwerty android phone to be released.
I would also wait. The droid does sound like the perfect phone for you, but the thing is, all the stuff you really look forward to doing kills your battery. I have a rooted droid clocked at 1ghz. Battery life really isn't that great, but overall i sincerely love the phone.
I would wait, too...I have the Milestone, is a really great phone (as you said, big screen+QWERTY is just perfect) but buying it now is pointless, in my opinion. I would suggest to wait for new devices similar to the Milestone to come out and then make a choose.
And the camera isn't that great, really.
Thanks everyone
.. is there any great phones (or leaks) with QWERTYs in the next few weeks which are non-Motorola ? i mean is there any leaks ? (other than that ugly HTC Vision) ?
damn i wish we had a GSM version of HTC Incredible .. it's a perfect phone (only missing a keyboard though)
somebody told me girlfriends are like mobile phones, you only wish for a new and better one, as to what you have.
so there's nothing new about your dilemma.i'd suggest you go for it, because new would come but then it's price will delay or postpone you a prized possession. secondly, nowadays a mobile phone is more worthy if it it's most popular in hacking community, like Xperia X1, in my sane mind i'd never suggest this phone to anyone, but imagine ubuntu and android along with Winmo, the phone is a must have. And my dearest SE P1i.
Go for it, you'd never regret a moment of it am already looking for Xperia X1 and Milestone (second or even third hand).
yeah , your right .. but the thing is .. back in 2008 (when i only knew dumbphones and smartphones prices were a blast) i bought my beloved and now stolen SE w595 .. just a couple a days later , Here Comes SE w902 & samsung i8510 .. a better camera + bigger screen .. stuff
Honestly i felt like my new w595 was turned into bull****! i dont want that to happen next if i buy a milestone
but when i think about it .. it was out for a year .. is there really something new coming ? all the good damn phones comes to the US (droid incredible , samsung epic 4G) while leaving us lay in the dust
everytime i try to convinve myself to buy the milestone by saying (i'm just a teenager .. why would i need a 1GHz CPU and stuff like that ?) but honestly i just can't help it .. for god's sake the galaxy spica is faster than that !
beside that locked bootloader .. when i thought about it for like 2 minutes i say what's the joy having an android when you can't root it/install ROMs ? because back in the days when i had the w595 i used to change themes & flash menus like a maniac !
i've decided to wait for a non-Motorola device , i've taken myself a hour to think about it .. that's my decision .. Thanks everyone !
I literally just picked up the Milestone on Telus two days ago, and don't regret it. It's pretty sweet, and I don't see the Droid X or the Incredible coming (I assume you're in Canada, as you're looking at the Milestone..) any time soon up here.
With the customization and rooting available, it's a pretty sweet phone.
Just me though. Good luck with picking a phone.
The driod 2 is released any day now but I wonder how long we have to wait for a milestone 2
Edit: I bought my Milestone 2 weeks ago. And I love it.
it will outdated in term of operating system, currently we only get android 2.1 which everybody already has 2.2
and next time 3.0 released we can only bite our nail ^^
it will be soon!
Hi guys, actually i've more or less pretty decided to get the milestone already due to it's nice form factor and android, also pretty much i'd like to have a qwerty keyboard for a change.
I'm currently rocking a HD2, and i don't intend to sell it yet. But was interested in android after running froyo 2.2 and sense desire build on it. So i was like pretty much wanting to get an adroid device to play with and see how it goes. No suitable options in the marketplace for nexus 1 and it's way over my budget, i reckon i can get a milestone (brand new) over here in sg for around 550 Singapore Dollars, so i thought i get it! (TODAY, LOL)
So i thought i'd pop by xda for trusted opinions and rooting possibilities, and i'm faced with little support for the milestone as compared to the crazy HD2 forum, LOL. So i'm wondering is it possible to root my milestone? And what do you guys mean by bootloader locked? And why? Pardon me as i'm pretty new to android, had a g1 in the past, but didn't play much with it and sold it, now i'm back! Haha.
I'd appreciate any links to other sites for help and more info and prolly more support than what we're getting here? If you feel uneasy to post, you could pm me. Thanks!!
Any issues i must take note of with buying milestone? Since i read some had wifi and baseband issues, D-pad down button is bad etc. LOL. And the droid's back cover is loose, not sure about the milestone though. Plus is there really a huge difference in droid and milestone when it comes to development/rooting/flashing roms etc.?
The only difference i know of currently is one's CDMA the other's GSM and the droid doesn't support multi-touch natively until the updated the software as well as the droid has got fm radio?
Oh ya, there's no wireless teethering on milestone? Meaning my laptop uses my phone's network?!
Appreciate all advice!!
Sorry for uber long posts!

Man, it's really lacking in support for milestone over here at xda, or there's nothing to support at all? LOL. For the first time, i'm a little disappointed with xda. Hahahaha, i hope people could point me in the right direction for milestone news and tips etc. Anyways, heading to get it now!!
Quick answers:
- You can root the phone, as in, have access to modify the system at root level.
- A locked bootloader means you can't use any other kernels except those signed by Motorola themselves. We're all hoping for methods like 2ndboot and kexec to help us out here
- You can tether via USB,WiFi, or Bluetooth.
i have a Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 with windows mobile.. I originally wanted the Milestone but since i could get the X1 for half the price of the Milestone i decided to get it. I am now in the process of selling the X1 and getting the Milestone (probably next week)

Thanks. I went ahead and get it anyway. Haha. I'm hoping for more support and some flashing goodness soon! Plus 2.2 froyo!! Some issues or concerns i found so far. I realised that the device gets hot pretty easily and not normal kind of heat, rather at the area below the camera at the back when holding landscape. And in gmail app, you can never empty your trash permanently. This kinda sucks, as the trash always restore.

And in gmail app, you can never empty your trash permanently. This kinda sucks, as the trash always restore.

where did you get it for 550? I was at a starhub shop the other day and it wasn't even close to 550.
If you don't want to wait, there's always the Samsung Epic 4G or Galaxy S Pro, whatever it is called in your region. If you don't mind that there is no camera flash.

Are those phones even out yet ? Would you be able to install custom ROMs for them in the future?
The milestone looks better in my opinion.. (physically) but seeing how its got a locked bootloader... im afraid of buying a phone (with so many options at this day) that could be already stuck on its final OS version.
If only the Xperia X10 had a physical keyboard (i dont like the mini pro version) id probably buy it. I want an android phone with a physical keyboard not only for texting but also for emulators and the milestone seems the way to go ... as its about $420 too. (amazon)
I'm in the same boat as some of you. A former Xperia X1 user who got tired of flashing with ROMs that aren't stable and sluggish. I don't want to get an official ATT phone cause I am on the MediaNet unlimited plan and I like to tether to my laptop. I also like having a QWERTY keyboard and been wanting to try Andriod OS. Some questions:
1) What specifics should I look for to ensure I'm getting the Telus version of DROID and unlocked for AT&T to ensure 3G?
2) I saw recent news that there is no official support for Tethering or wifi router mode on DROID, but are there apps (even the Xperia X1 did).
3) Can anyone tell from just what's listed on Overstock and Amazon whether those phones will work on ATT 3G? Many thanks.
I already sold my X1, been using my old Samsung BLackjack 2....need new phone...SOON!

IS Root a possibility or ????

Ok so Im no genius like most of u are in here, but this is my 3rd HTC device and the only one which doesnt have root or custom roms so far. I just wanted to ask if you guys believe that there will be root for s-off or custom roms any sooner or is it wort hit just to buy an Atrix?? I need your opinion, please and thank you?
P.S: If any of you don't feel like answering or sharing your opinion & wanna be a smart-bottom by directing me to a link or by asking me to google it my humble request is to keep ur 0.2cents to yourself & learn to be humble and caring. Thanks.
yes. and if you had read through threads about root then you would already know that s-off IS devices have been rooted some time ago. custom roms are around but very few and not very good. the problem is getting s-off for root available for for those of us who dont have s-off by default or have access to an xtc clip to s-off our IS's.
p.s. nothings impossible on xda dev ^o^
p.p.s. if you dont need the power then considering IS gingerbread update is flowing out now id say its more than enough. unless ofcourse your given an awsome deal on the atrix
Remember that Incredible 2 is out now and is amajor phone on Verizon. This will be a popular phone and I have faith that XDA members here will find a way to put S-Off.
I sure hope someone takes it upon themselves to get the Incredible 2/S off the ground. I love the phone, solid as a rock, and fast, but I'd really like to eventually be able to over/undervolt, flash minus-bloatware roms, etc.

Upgrade to Gingerbread and run Gingerbreak. There you go.. root!!
I used SOC-1.9.x with factory 2.2.1 and it worked out. But the Superuser kept crashing while root permissions were being asked by apps. Found a workaround: cleaning the Superuser data each time I wanted to run an app.. but that's lame.
I'm in the same boat as the op... will be upgrading in the next month and with BELL... so the only 2 phones im looking are the incredible or the atrix...
i like htc and if i get the IS, this will be my 3rd htc with sleak UI and stable without too much bloatware and standard hardware ( by today's std ) , no root as of yet.
vs the atrix top of the line hardware and futureproof ( well at least for the next yr before new lines of multicores phones) but major bloatware which cannot be uninstalled, locked bootloader so cant get rid of those bloatwares.. apparently some ppl experiencing lags (something which i would never believe until i saw some videos) with the live wallpaper...
At this point, i would tend to get the IS but if both can be flashed with a custom rom ( ie. without motoblur **** ), i would jump on the atrix

are you referring to rooting the atrix?
the biggest problem we will find is that although the device is popular, it's a midrange android device, and many of the developers are not picking it up to work on it. after all when there are high end devices around the corner, why would they?

Right. There's a few problems:
1) Lots are holding out on Sensation
2) IS is a midrange device making it only semipopular. HTC has a solid lineup, but this divides forces. If you take Samsung where they had the SGS 1 and SGS2 this year, that's basically their main lineup. Expect concentrated development, but I don't know what to expect here.
3) Not sure for me whether I should pick up an IS or wait for Sensation. I'd have to wait for an 850/1900 sensation and nothing's even announced yet... so given that it's usually a minimal 3 months delay, I won't be getting this phone til close to Christmas I bet.... sigh.
Basically we're in no mans land.

If your phone is S-On, the Gingerbreak don't give you ROOT, even if you upgraded to the official 2.3 Ginderbread.
To get S-Off you need a XTC-Clips.
thanks for all your opinions fellas! for the sights and sound feels like IS didn't appeal alot to the devs so Im guessing there wont be any development on IS, so it seems wise to say good bye to IS until a new HTC device comes out & perhaps its time to say hello to the Atrix as it's got custom rom and it was rooted before it even came out. But Thanks anyways,...Imma put up my phone for sale, Im in Toronto, Canada If any one interested please PM me. Thanks.

rooting the ONE is it worth it...or should i

any one regret rooting the one ? i had a htc sensation rooted but alll the roms seem to have some thing that did not work...the one seems to be fine the way it is so before i root it i wanted some option ..... do the the htc one also have roms with broken parts of it ?
should i just wait on the updates ?
Really depends on how you use your device and how you feel about the stock setup. I didn't like having all the bloatware that AT&T packed on and really wanted to play around more under the hood, but obviously that is not for everyone and comes with all of the standard risks.
I'm running the latest ViperOne ROM and really love the options that can be set and tweaked. So many ROM options available for the device the choices are almost endless.
You haven't tried Trickdroid 9.0. Amazing rom that's not missing anything! insane battery life also
does the update also add alot of features ?
I've rooted every android phone I've had and flashed numerous roms on each one but this is the first device that I've left completely stock. I don't even have an unlocked bootloader. The phone is just fine the way it is, I will not be rooting or unlocking the bootloader on this phone anytime soon. Myself and many other users used to root our phones and flash custom roms because android phones used to be incredibly laggy and we always wanted better performance. Overclocking our processors was the norm but now android has matured so much and devices are ridiculously powerful now there is just no need to change them. Even if we were to still overclock our devices you wouldn't see a change in performance.
It's completely up to you though.
Personally, I think rooting is worth it just for the ad blocking it allows; i.e. editing the hosts file. Running a custom rom, being able to backup with titanium and nandroids, and changing radios is just gravy. And if you've ever had a device go south without a custom recovery already on it it's incredibly difficult to fix.

The wife bought a refurb Acer tablet - no warranty (I think it was thirty days.) Was ridiculous to restore. I learned my lesson, well! And I'd rather be able to fix it myself than be without while I wait for someone else to. To each their own...

yeah if this was a slow phone or laggy maybe i would, but a have read a few tread with custom roms and some are having trouble with them, think i'll wait on update....although the 4.2.2 update seems to not be coming to t-mobile,all i got so far was a small update.
I have only had the One for a few weeks, but I rooted it and flashed CM10.1 before I even put my SIM in it. Definitely worth it. No reason to deal with carrier restrictions.
t mobile told me there is no 4.2.2 update for the htc one......HTC said the same thing,so now im wondering how come people are saying there receiving this update..
who's lying

There will be no 4.2.2 update from tmobile, my guess is they are gonna skip that and go straight to 4.3 plus they said it on the internet on the news that htc said it themselves and that there would be no customer benefit for an update like 4.2.2 so they said they were gonna skip it and bring up 4.3.
The update started along the lines of outside international countries that aren't big market carriers and then it rolled on slowly...so no one's lying you just have to do some research on the internet but that 4.2.2 update never got to the US thats why it was never rolled out to large carriers to their customers..
Hopefully this gave you some insight on things that are currently happening.

It had to have been those in the UK or in some parts of the world because it started from one small part of the world, I mean those that are not on carriers, and it did end up in parts of the UK but it never got to the US and if people who are in the US saying they got the update they changed their CID to a region that had the update rolling out so really no one on this side of the US has that software except verizon because they shipped those one models with the current software, and the GPE ones got an update first because well those aren't sold by carrier they are sold by htc themselves on their website. So yes people have said that they receive it but unless there is proof I wouldn't go off of their word, they more than likely did something to their phone to get that software, they might have a custom rom on their phone or done something to get it officially but here in the us there is no word of 4.2.2 ever coming to their customers....of course except verizon....
Well hopefully this helps...if you have any other questions or concerns please do let us know as we want to help you out

Not always. Running a stock 4.2.2 Rom or something without major modifications will be smooth for a long time. I ran Mike's stock build rooted for almost a month with no issues at all.
It all depends on what you want from it. If you want all the themes and icon changes and modify this and that, you will have issues. But if you JUST want the newest version out there then I would say go ahead and run a stock build, get it odexed (not deodexed) and you will have buttery smoothness

Hi, I am looking for ROM with better battery life than Stock.
My average battery drain about 1% for about 4-5 minutes while using Internet via WIFI for browsing using JB's 4.2.2 default browser, chatting via WhatsApp, reading emails and using Blink Feed.
How about using this ROM?
Thanks.
My main reason FOR rooting, was to theme the phone red. I have the HTC one Red edition. And just love red. I also hate blink feed. Ive flashed Venom rom, and desensed it. Battery life is amazing, I cant find anything that don't work, well nothing I need to use anyway. Plus they have there own red theme, and with the help of a few icon designes from Seriously Crazy. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2091654 This is what ive come up with.
So worth rotting for me, if only for the theming, and gtting rid of blink feed.
Steve
