[Q] Unlocking a droid - Motorola Droid and Milestone Q&A, Help & Troublesh

i really like the droid but i have us cellular. im not a big verizon fan since when i had them the service wasnt great. so is there a way to unlock it and use in on us cellular?

How long ago did you have they're service. I've Bennett with Verizon for atleast 5 years. Services has always been great never had many blackout areas and not one dropped call. My data is fast and Verizon support allowed me to get a free Droid upgraded when I had to replace Eris 5 time for trackball problems. Didn't coust me my two year upgrade, they did a warranty replacement. But two answer your question I know it possible to flash it to cricket so might be possible for us cellulare just try some online searching for a process to do so or look into cricket maybe.

Not to be redundant but just want to mention about 6 years ago I worked for Lucent technologies installing the cell towers in Connecticut, Massachusetts, new york, and new Jersey. To tell you the truth out of all carriers, Verizon was present at more of the sites we installed than anyone else, we did more upgrades for them and was most of buisness while I was employed by Lucent, the only other one close was at&t, and Nextel but neither of they're services still can't touch Verizon's.

Any word if T-Mobile US will be getting the Droid/Milestone?

I've been a WM fan for years but recently a friend got the Droid on Verizon's network and I got to play with it and really liked it.
I know I can get an Euro Milestone but don't want to give up 3G speeds here in the US.
Are there any talks of getting this phone or the new updated one on TMO?
forget it man in US if you want to buy a motorola droid the only way is verizon
Yeah, it's basically Verizon's version of the iPhone (since when they released it/a short while before they released it it they made all the comments on how the Droid could do so and so and the iPhone couldn't do so and so (which of course since it's the iPhone, there's quite a few things it won't do that the droid will xD) so it's Verizon's major competition with the iPhone), chances are they won't give it up. T-Mobile gets the Nexus one though, which is a fantastic phone (with the exception of the lack of a keyboard, but you'll get used to a touch screen keyboard after a while).

Thinking of getting Milestone on US AT&T, any inputs?

Hi all, been around XDA a bit with my Xperia X1. While I mostly like the X1, the slow processor and instability of many roms (gone back to SEX1, best 6.5 ROM IMO), I am thinking of going to another phone; either the Moto Milestone or the newly released Captivate (aka Galaxy S).
I like having QWERTY so I'm leaning more towards Milestone; also since it's not one of AT&T phone, I don't foresee issues with my $15/month MediaNet Unlimited plan.
How mature is Milestone on XDA Dev? Is 2.1 or 2.2 Froyo available on it? How is the stock 2.0 OS?
My biggest needs are email (LOTS), tethering (internet sharing), and good camera. I really like the HTC Sense UI-like home-screen (if it works well, not so well on my Xperia X1), and I like things to be speedy. I'm not that big on apps except a good RSS feed, Google Maps, and BING apps. Thanks for your input.
Milestone won't get 3G on at&t plus its an old phone and hase a locked bootloader so you should lean mor tword the Captivate since they are working on rooting it now

I think it will if he gets a Canadian one.
Don't waste your time with the Milestone unless you plan on leaving it completely stock, which judging by the fact you are here, you probably wouldn't want to. The milestone has a locked bootloader which prevents loading custom roms and at this point Motorola has been everyone unclear as to whether it will ever be updated to Froyo (2.2). It's very frustrating to those of us who were fooled into thinking we were getting the gsm equivalent of the droid. Furthermore I wouldn't recommend any Motorola products if you are interested at all in customizing or hacking your handset. Best to choose one of HTC's many more open options.

[Q] Use Droid with alltel

I just bought a motorola droid and i need to have it fully activated with alltel. i have a friend that works at alltel and she said it would be no problem but i dont know if data connection will work. can anybody help me get this fully functioning with alltel? thank you in advance!
well i know this should work. I did the same thing back when the BB storm 9500 came out. I was on alltel and had to do a little bit of changing some numbers and walla. you should get data.
How in the hell do you still have Altell? Verizon bought them out years ago.
Verizon had to sell off portions of Alltel in areas where the only main competitors were Verizon and Alltel. AT&T bought those portions but as of yet have not converted much, or any, of those areas. So they are still operating under the Alltel name.

Yet another "goodbye Bionic" thread...

...I work in a cell phone repair shop, and a woman who had recently left Verizon came in with a DROID RAZR that she wanted to try to get SIM unlocked for pre-paid GSM. Unfortunately she had accepted the official ICS update, which kills the GSM hack (that also works on the Bionic and DROID 4). So, I traded her my Bionic (which was on the .2233 leak), after FXZ'ing to .905, GSM-hacking, and editing the build.prop to stay on WCDMA and allow APN editing (which I set up for H20 Wireless). Anyway, it was fun while it lasted. I actually sold my Thunderbolt for $150 after buying a Bionic with a bad LCD for $70 (new LCD was $55), so I've been trading-up quite nicely the past few months (might see if I can trade someone the RAZR for a G'Nex soon). Thanks to all of the developers (and cheesecake prowlers!) for everything they've done. I've learned a lot from this forum, but now it's time to head over to the RAZR forum (which needs to be split up between XT910 and XT912, btw). I know I wasn't exactly a big time player here, but just wanted to make this thread and say thanks to the people that post here.

Should I switch over from Verizon to AT&T?

Hey I am a long time Verizon GS3 and droid x user living in south east Florida and I am thinking about switching over to att. I have been doing a lot of research both on att and the new moto x and I believe that's what I am going to do. I see a lot has been done with att network in the last year or two and the next is a better deal than Verizon's and the plan is $15 cheaper for individual until my wife's contract is over in Oct. So....should I switch? Has the network really gotten better? Good customer service? Good prices? Give me some feedback on your att experience....I have a big decision to make by Friday. My GS3 broke last week and my bday is tomorrow and I am dying with my wife's cracked screen thunderbolt from 3 years ago...lol Thanks.
Oh yeah..should I do the motomaker? Seems really cool but I will have to wait another week or two...lol
What back materials hold up? I kinda like the wood...heard the leather scratches and might not hold up?
That's a lot of questions in one thread lol.
Happy birthday first of all and here are my .02 cents.
If I were to do it again, I'd go with AIO wireless or some other cheap carrier. AIO or whatever it is called is actually on AT&T network and has everything you need. You just have to buy your own phone which IMHO is much better anyways. No need to sign a contract. Phones are beyond locked down and too much bloat. Get pure version of X through moto maker and go with $45 a month plan. IMHO, that's the way to go.
Hope that helps.

I had Verizon once hated every thing about them, still do. Where I'm at and places I travel to have pretty good AT&T coverage. I'm a multi phone user and I can switch them for certain situations, S4 Active for hunting and fishing trips, N5, Moto X '13 and '14 because of Motorolas radios and the experience, iPhone 5 for Facetime. This is a decision you will have to make for yourself based upon what is important for you. As far as back plates, wood and leather scratch but can both be repaired/retreated easily. I went with standard soft touch because I'll end up putting a skin on, hopefully blue camo like my N5.

Maybe as long as you get good AT&T signal. I personally think it's better to get the Pure version over AT&T version even though it lacks a few AT&T LTE bands, it should support enough of their LTE bands that as long as you live in big enough city you'll still get good coverage. Most people should have no problem. I still think it's worth it over AT&T crapwares, locked bootloader, locked sim, slower udpates and lower resale value. You could test their coverage by using an AT&T MVNO like Cricket for just one month, and later sign a contract if you really want to.
As for "good customer service". I have dealt with AT&T in the past and I can only express my opinion about them using vulgar languages.
Check local signal. If AT&T has good coverage (they do in most of US, close to Verizon's) then go with a pure on Cricket or AIO for the best price.
