Just delete all android files from your SD card, or if you want you can delete data.img so all your setting wll be reseted. Anyway data.img from an older version of android is in most cases the problem, delete data.img and let android recreate the image file again.

I have been reading about upgrading the opal or viva by installing a new ROM. But I have also read people who have had problems while doing this.
I was wondering what is the process to dump the ROM my phone has? What tools do I need to download in order to do this?

From what i know, in backing up the factory can't be done this way you'll have to flash it into your rom the same way.
ok i rooted my g1 phone to the jachero rom but i wanted to upgrade my rom to something higher so deleted it off my phone now im stuck at the htc part it says hero with the android sign than htc after that nothing else what can i do i need help please someone im new to this
you were installing a new hero rom or going to a different type rom like cyans or xrom? Did you wipe before trying to flash the new rom? Have you tried formating your partitions on the memory card?

from what i know about Hero roms is that your sd card needs 3 partitions (usually) and you need haykuro's SPL (usually).
I recommend deleting all partitions on your SD (while keeping a backup of the SD part) and just creating a new ext3/ext4 while going to a cyanogen stable/experimental build.
at the same time, you would want to wipe your phone and flash the new rom.
Hey, I flashed my Tattoo yesterday to OE v1.2.2 because v1.3 did not boot at all, just got stuck at "TATTOO"
Anyone know where and how I can get v1.3 to work? (I have already looked through the dev's forum)
1.2.2 runs smooth but there is some small lags that I want to get rid off.
If you know how, then please help me

I also flashed my tattoo to 1.3
First I thoght that it stucks on the tattoo screen. But it takes about 6 minutes at the first start. Then the screen become black. After further 3 minutes you will see the Loginfield of openEclair.
Any change since the v5 in the other eclair topic ?
Can someone test Foursquare and/or Tellmewhere to see if it still forceclose ?

I tried that, did not boot even after 30 mins. Please write exactly how you installed and booted it?
I faced exactly the same problem with v5 of OpenEclair. I tried the previous versions and I haven't problems. I flashed this rom about 15 times with wipe every option(data, cache, ext partition) repair ext partition too but nothing helps.
v5 work for me....
the problem is app2sd i think...
is not working perfectly...
try to install v5 rom without ext3 partition

app2sd doesn't work for me...I've an ext3 partition and it boots perfectly but app2sd doesn't work...there are some apps installed there from a previous rom...do you think if I format that partition I could use app2sd with the tattoo?

no...i've tryed wit ext3 and ex2 and not work.
In the second release of my rom i'll remake all link manually and fix it

what kind of rom are you cooking?
2.1, froyo or what else?
what about the camera?
2.1 with some programs and original splash screen included on framework.
Second step is fix app2sd.
I'm working hard for fix the camera problem!
P.S. i need the froyo rom but the link is not working...anyone have a copy plz?

Restore ?
Hi everyone im a noob at this so be gentle
Right as the subject states i cannot restore my nandroid backups as when i try i get a message (Failed to Flash Boot Image!)
I was running Tweaky's GingerBread rom and did a nandroid backup of that then i flashed simply honey rom (both Ginger roms), and when i went to restore Tweaky that error message came up??
Anyone advise me what i can do so that i can continue flashing with a safety of a Backup should i need it incase something goes wrong.
I did have a Htc Desire before this galaxy and had no problems whatsoever restoring my backups, from froyo to gingerbread or vice versa however this galaxy seems alot more tech hence why i have put this thread up.
So would someone please help so i can resolve this (bugging me) issue

Just flash a rom with odin...
Maybe you can try in CWM to see to mount necessery partition like system or data.Then you have a option to change permission system is read only.How about to start from this.
Juwe 4.3.1 on jvh works the best!

Back in 2010, two months after buy my SGS, i updated from Android 2.1 to 2.2 using Kies.
I didnt lost any data in the process. But before i created a ROM image using ROM Manager.
But after the update i realised that my phone was now running recovery 3e, and when i tried to create a new backup i couldnt.
After that i just installed a tool named z4mod to convert the file system in order to incrase the performance of the phone.
And its running like that till now.
Now all i want to know is whats the simplest way (with minor changes in the phone) to go back to recovery 2e, so i could make a backup with ROM Manager for safety and update the firmware for the last version available in KIES, at least.
I there is a way to change just the recovery thats what im loking for.
Im running: PDA-JPA, Modem-JPP.

Just Save everything (use USB storage mode and copy paste entire SD cards to your PC, so you won't lose anything) Connect with KIES and upgrade to latest Gingerbread ROM, after that just download a semaphore kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112908 and Flash with Odin, should give you CWM recovery and Root..
Than you can copy back what you need from your PC,
The point is want to create a full backup (not just copying files) before update.
It's impossible?
