I haver modified a lot of stuff to get it all to work in this, and have even created a few of the things in this multi-tool. HOWEVER, it is more of a compilation, to make it easier for lazy people like me.
NOTE: NO ONE BUT YOU IS RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR DEVICE, NOT ME, NOT ANYONE, YOU!
So I present to you the SGS Vibrant Multi Tool. (GUI coming soon, hopefully)

thankyou for sharing
sadly "installation aborted" on "update.zip" for galaxy s boot audio and video
EDIT:maybe clockworkMOD conflict

Should be working. I don't know why it wouldn't.
I'll figure out why installation failed when I get home.

Released source. OP updated to reflect this. You will need the stuff that comes in the release as well as the program relys on system("**.bat") to function. Someone here wanted the source so here ya go. Make it better community. I don't have the time, just got a call back to work for next week. (Been laid off a while.)
Oh yea C++. http://gist.github.com/555120

Thanks Man for putting this together great job !!

I keep getting "Installation Aborted" when trying to flash the Samung S boot/shutdown. I hate the Tmobile one. I do see the udpate.zip on the internal card. If it matters, I did flash clockwork recovery before this.
I did the remove sounds, then tried the flash with no luck.

testing it now. confirmed it doesn't work, i had assumed it was properly signed based on my memory of it, but it turns out i was mistaken.
What you can do in the mean time because it might be a while until I get it fixed, is push the boot/shutdown file to your phone and change the update.zip files name, restore clockwork and flash through clockwork.... I am updating the files to reflect this.
It will be working in v0.9 so go ahead and redownload if you see that. Also coming in v0.9 option to install drivers for phone. And maybe more, who knows.

Thats very odd, it is in the folder /utils/ right?
It oughta work just the way it is, however, I do have adb (android-sdk/tools) in my PATH so I guess that might be it.

I didn't see that mentioned in the original post. I extract the .rar onto the phone to /utils? Then run it from there using windows?
TY in advance.

no it can be in any directory, i think i know what the problem is, it is just before bed where i am. i will fix it tomorrow after work and release. i am pretty sure i know what is wrong.

I am getting the same adb error. Maybe my adb path? (c:\android-sdk-windows\tools)

I'm still not understanding where to put the "Vibrant MultiTool" folder to get it to work. Do I put it on the SD card, or on the phone? Do I copy over everything in that folder which contains a "utils" folder along with the MultiTool app?
Thanks for the help.

Edit: This tool is outdated. Use at your own risk and with your own discretion.

Is there a replacement?
You should probably mention that it's outdated in your post that sends people here:
[Root Users] One Click Audio Start Up Noise Removal / Replacement (can't post a link)
(that script doesn't work either)

very cool!
Not to rain on your parade, but you know there's one built into ddms right?
Great minds think alike
Should have a more stable version by the end of the week. Got quite a few things in store for this!

I'd love to be able to rename system files and replace them on the fly
Will this work with wine/ubuntu?

No idea about wine, I might test it when I release a more stable version. If you can get IE and office working in wine then I don't see why you can't get this working.
as far as making a version for linux, i really want to, but i have no experience whatsoever as far as making a graphical interface for linux.... if you can point me in a right direction and a good tutorial or two, i can pick it up in less than a day and work on it. btw, im very skilled with linux and bla bla bla, including programming, but never really wanted to make a graphical front end for anything, and never cared because i am more of a console guy; a graphic version would be nice though

keep up the good work man
I am scrapping my linux "port" because DDMS does everything else I need it to. Sorry guys, and if you were using linux, then you wouldnt be in this thread for windows based programs
Just released v0.2, it's a BIG improvement over v0.1.

I like it. So far so good. Can't wait till the next release.
For sh*ts and giggles, I tested it out using Wine, and after some fiddling around with it, i was able to get it to work. I also, of course, emulated it in vmware, worked with no problems what so ever

You'll get the 'error: device offlin' error when the phone isn't plugged in, I haven't got round to handling errors yet.
Try plugging the phone in, going into a command prompt (start > run > cmd) and type 'adb devices' if you phone shows up there then open the program and it should work.
Which file/folder were you pushing to get the permission denied error?
Could try another remount or even closing and reopening the app then remounting.
If you could give the exact steps you took to produce the error that would be great!

How to root any htc incredible phone with any SD Card. Please download new Drivers!!!

Alright I have been reading and trying to root this device for days with no avail, now let me tell you what i did. Before I turned off the phone, you have to literally turn off every wireless connection anything that you connected to at all. Dont turn on air plane mode, just turn off every connection you can. Then What I did was click in the sd card after doing the adb reboot recovery. This worked like a charm. I also edited the drivers of the usb driver file called winusb.inf located at c:\sdk\usb_driver
if you dont have that folder that means you have not installed the usb driver which you can do by opening setup.exe clicking on usb drivers install.
you have to edit the file by including the lines under google nt 86 at end of section
;HTC Incredible
%SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0C9E
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0C9E&MI_01
%SingleBootLoaderInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0C94
also then put the exact same lines under [Google.NTamd64] at end of section.
Next your going to want to save the file. Then go under device manager, update the drivers that you already have with that file located at c:\sdk\usb_drivers.
Restart if it says you have to.
Then next step use the windows application
hxxp://incredible.groove2.net/IncredibleRooter.zip
mdawg made This. extract put file in location under "c:\sdk\tools".
Then boot into recovery mode.
run loop.bat and begin clicking in and out of the sd card until it changes the error from device not found to that great error. then exit out of loop.bat with ctrl+c. and finish with the application by pushing files and updating zip. This is the hardest card to do. But it worked very first time after i tried updating drivers! I got wireless Tether working and sending this from there .
I used windows xp sp3
This method will work with any windows machine.
New!!! Load USB drivers from http://tether.com/a/setup.exe
Make sure you update your drivers in Device Manager and restart if needed. These are same drivers I used first time, I just forgot that I downloaded tether before hand.

This doesn't help if you cant get the phone into the adb recovery status...
This will help you get the phone into recovery status
Please read and try directions instead of thumbing your nose at me. I have put a lot of time into this and im trying to help. I would like to know if my instructions have helped people so we can try and figure out what exactly it is that helps the device. This helped mine and is considered one of the hardest cards to get working. But please at least try this before I get responses like "this wont help". Your not going to ever get rooted with that attitude.
Re: How to root any htc incredible phone with any SD Card. Full proof instructions!
Thanks for the tips, but I think you need to be more careful about using definite statements like 'any card' and 'any PC'. We know from the unRevoked guys that radios and cards play a role, so you're right there.

I believe that SD card does not matter
Let me tell you, The Unrevoked team is a great team. i give them all credit for actually rooting the device. There is still some bugs, im trying to fix those bugs, and provide help how to do that. And I do believe any card can be done on any pc. If your experiencing problems, i might be able to help. Recovery status is easy to achieve if you follow directions. They are wrong about SD cards playing a role though, this is a misguided conception. As my card is one of the hardest cards to get working and practically no one has it.

I've already tried this exact method of getting into adb recovery for like past 2 days, my phone just will not co-operate with me.
The root method with the program is awesome, I told mDawg this in TRC the other night... All i'm saying is it doesn't help people who cant get into adb recovery.
I have all the correct drivers installed, because i can use adb shell and android screen monitor to take screen shots fine when the phone is on.
But my phone will not go into adb recovery no matter what i try, I have tried using 2 different sd cards, 8GB Kingston Class 4 and the 2GB that came with the phone, tried formating in FAT, FAT32, and even filling the cards up with junk.
I'm not shutting you down in anyway, trust me, I would love for this to work for me, but It will not let me into adb recovery no matter what i try, I'm on windows Vista Home 32 and just not having any luck, so you saying this will work every time with any card just isn't true.
Anyways, i hope this does help people.
Sorry to post on both forums, but I'm registered on both just like you, so just put it on both.
No disregards at all honest.

Permissions? Writing to SD shouldn't require elevated permissions. Anyhow, set up two partitions on the SDcard: ext4 (or another linux partition, shouldn't matter--try something crazy like XFS or reiserFS , followed by a FAT32 partition. I believe the linux partition should give you the 5s race window you're looking for, then you'll have a mounted FAT32 to put the decoy update.zip which recovery will read from when payload is pushed.
What OS are you using to make ext4? PM me if you have more questions, or my gtalk is rynosaur74. Anyone who has questions can contact me: I was a 5-day headache person until yesterday
FYI Sorry to say it is NOT that easy for me. My sdcards will only work if I leave them out until after I start recovery and insert at the sound. I have tried you method and I don't think I'd call if "Full Proof". I know I have the correct driver and the updated lines in the .inf file, because I have rooted my phone. Unfortunatly, I have to use the card insert method, which is a little tricky.
Nice try but I gotta tell you, I think your title is a little misleading.

[GPL] 1-Click Soft Root

MOD EDIT: Full Root is now available. Please see this for Full Root
[GUIDE] One Click How to Root the Wildfire with Unrevoked 3.21
Hi all,
As posted the other day, I have managed to get a temporary software-only root solution that will allow you to run some applications that require su. I am currently in discussion with some of the unrEVOked team to take this a step further and get the NAND protection defeated, clockworkmod etc. For now, though, I present an extremely simple, low risk, software root. Yes, it's not quite 1-click (it's 1-click once you've done the initial steps), but it's pretty easy.
Prerequisites:
You must have adb working.
Root instructions:
Step 1: Download and install Superuser.apk from the Market. ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=682828 )
Step 2: Download my SoftRoot package ( http://www.martineve.com/wildfiresoftrootoneclick/SoftRoot.apk )
Step 3: Execute from a command prompt in the directory where you downloaded SoftRoot.apk:
Windows:
adb install SoftRoot.apk
Linux:
adb install ./SoftRoot.apk
Step 4: Run the SoftRoot application that is now installed.
The application will now crash. Wait 2 seconds, close it and you are rooted.
You will need to re-perform stage 4, only, each time you reboot.
Source code (all GPL):
http://www.martineve.com/wildfiresoftrootoneclick/DoRoot.java
http://www.martineve.com/wildfiresoftrootoneclick/R.java
http://www.martineve.com/wildfiresoftrootoneclick/rootshell
http://www.martineve.com/wildfiresoftrootoneclick/exploid.c
To compile Java app, you will need to create a project that has su, rootshell and compiled exploid inside the resources/raw folder.
Works great. Thank you.
Now I have access to paid apps easily via Market Enabler (v3.0.8). I've missed them.
Now I just hope Spotify will fix their playback issues og Wildfire (and Hero). THEN life will be good again.

thx man!
Excellent work, thanks Martin! So this means I don't have to follow anything in your other thread, I can just use this? Found it difficult to understand all that stuff!
Also, when downloading the Android SDK, as I'm about to, do I need to get the 2.1 component package as well, being as the Wildfire comes with 2.1 on it? Very new to the world of Android, so your help would be much appreciated!
normally you just need the adb not the whole SDK.
Simple to use :
download SDK :http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
extract the zip(or tgz if Linux) where you want
go to tools
copy the SoftRoot.apk in this dir
open a cmd prompt
type adb install ./SoftRoot.apk
Install the SuperUser.apk (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=682828) or QR code :

all the best my friend, YOU ARE THE MAN
what's the method you are going to try to bypass the protection >> I'm interested in knowing the mechanism of the NAND protection, how it's work
Well, from the fact I was told to make a clockworkmod recovery image, it seems that the route is going to be to get a custom recovery image booting which will allow full access to the system and then flash from that.
TBH, this is where it starts to get risky ;/ If people wanted to start pooling together a disaster fund should the Bricking Gods not smile favourably on me, I'd be a lot happier! Haha!

You are running 2.1 or 2.2
If you get an adb shell up an paste me the output of the mount command, I'll be able to tell you more clearly.
MartinEve, I just copied the two .apk to my phone
1.Install with some explorer
2.Launch SoftRoot
3.Enjoy
no adb at all for me and worked

Excellent, glad to hear it
Perhaps I'll put a more concise set of instructions up at the start
not work
I managed to do ROOT previous method. In this method, the system aborts SoftRoot. What could be the reason?

When you say "the system aborts", I think you are referring to the fact the application crashes.
Which was in my original post.
It should still be rooted, despite the crash.

Go to a terminal and type:
su
If the phone then prompts you to allow root, allow it and then type:
id
if it says uid=0 then you are root.
Let me know and I'll make a post in the Legend forum too.

Looks like just what I needed, huge THANKS!
Looks awesome. I wish that my PC (or my brain) wasn't broken.
I haven't been able to get ADB (of any kind, from any source) to run on my win7 64 bit machine...ever. I've had the SDK installed for a while now and have tried several times to get ADB working- today is no different.
Try the adb setup link in my sig!
But you don't need to know how to use adb to use this program
Edit: I got it. The link in your sig is what saved me. Checking this out now. Thanks!!
Well it work with windows xp?

sorry but i dont have xp to try it and the authors website quoted in first post only says windows, im sure if there was more of a requirement he would have said so.
it runs on my win7 64x and that is usually the last supported windows so i would think xp is ok...
Doesn't recognize my phone. Droid Explorer does but this didn't. I already have adb installed on my win 7 64bit laptop.
did you point the program to where adb is installed?

Yes I did. Not sure why it won't recognize my phone.
Trouble getting hard adb root on Captivate GB 2.3.5 ROM
Android Commander 0.7.9.9 at http://androidcommander.com/ xda link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=597098
I have a Samsung Captivate running a modified stock leaked GB 2.3.5 One flash ROM that has been Fugu rooted. TiBU, Rom Toolbox and other Super User apps all work.
So this program by PanPiotr looks like just what the noob in me is after, and I'm sure a few others out there too.
Once installed the program seems to be fine. I have one problem that I can't seem to overcome. That is getting a hard or adb root on the phone. I have tried to follow the instructions of PanPiotr but I don't have a boot.img file in my nandroid BU as outlined in his FAQs. Only cache.img, data.img, sd-ext.img and system.img I can use unyaffs-windows to extract the files in these but the default.prop appears to be calling to be loaded from ro.com.google.clientidbase=android-samsung, which I can't seem to find.
I can modify the default.prop ro.debuggable=0 to =1 with root explorer but just doing it in the root doesn't help. I can't seem to find out which IMG file in my nandroid BU has or how to modify the default.prop file loader to get the ro.debuggable=1 to take or stay.
Consequently the Root Access indicator always says Root Access:NO
Any help would be appreciated.
TYIA
Bud
May have this worked out.
So I flashed a custom rom and kernel. Connected Android commander to phone and I have Root access:OK. Program works great. Thanks PanPiotr.
On the brighter side of all this while in recovery mode of the new kernel (CornKernel_UCKJ3_v403) I found a way of switching the toggle for debugging enabled to on if that kernel works with the rom I was on then that will work. It should so I'll give that a try and let you know.
EDIT:
So I just finished and this worked brilliantly. Hope it helps someone else.
Bud
WOW nice tool very needed
+1
please add option for screen shots for more resolutions
Or to manually edit screen size CUSTOM.
I am using this on my sensation and image is captured but due to wrong resolution rows are shifted
Nice app bro.

Boots
landscape mode

Backup to Internal and External
USB Mount (have to install Streak 7 ADB drivers and use 'adb shell')
Restore from Internal
What doesn't:

That is correct.
As soon as I get it to mount one of the storages (internal or external) than it will be out for testing.
Reverting some settings result in a successful backup to internal storage, need to work on getting both internal and external to work.
Done. Link and instructions on how to install in OP
amazing work giveen! just flashed & tested it, works like a charm! big thx!!
I'm glad its working out for everyone

Just fastbooted it! Very nice work.
Backup worked but didn't try to restore. Minor cosmetic issue on mount screen, check mark circle for "internal sd" covers the last two characters of the "external sd" text or "sd".

Yeah, those things are probably from the fact the 800x480 are from a Gtab, I might try to clean that up later.
Doing a restore from internal and external storage now to see if it works.
@giveen...
So when you say adb shell you meant I have access to the file system once mounted but not in an USB mass storage way? I have to use adb push, pull commands?

I did "Mount USB" from inside the TWRP
It showed up in my Device Manager as "Ventana", installed ADB driver for Dell Streak 7
From command line I ran "adb shell", so I am assuming "adb push/pull" will work as well right now.
Also, the cosmetic issue of "mount internal / external " will be fixed hopefully tomorrow. I've moved the button over 200px and now just need to move the text.
Giveen,
Thanks for the recovery.img. Did a backup and it appeared to work fine. Haven't done a restore yet.
For those who are as backwards as I am, this might help getting you into TWRP menu.
Power off your Streak
1) press and hold Vol + and power buttons until you get a menu
2) When the menu comes up, select option 2 (Software upgrade via update package on SD card)
That will take you into the cool TWRP menu.
Again, thanks Giveen for all of your hard work.
awesome!
This is the most groundbreaking development for our streaks since the ICSbeta builds.
Giveen, you should feel amazing about the progress you are making. Am I wrong to assume you used the TWRP porting guide to create this recovery? I'm just curious to know your resources so I can look into having my windows pc recognize the streak7 similar to the way it does when powered on (mtd?) ADB is fine and all, it would just be perfect to be able to drag n drop through Windows... I was able to do that on my HTC Evo using twrp.
I have begun to search for generic ics flashable zip mods to test out

Yes, I used this guide
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/23903-how-to-compile-twrp-from-source/
And talked it over with one of the main dev's Dees_Troy
I did talk to him about MTP, but he said he wasn't sure yet about how to implement it.

No that just means youre Streak isn't being recognized as a fastboot device I think

I replied to the OP on twitter, but if you look really carefully at the command line picture he posted, you shall see the problem.
I've always used: "fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.img" which works.
