[Q] How can I make Kies sync contact pictures from Outlook - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have searched on Google and on xda forum about this and only found old thread with no resolution and there is so little person who asks the question that maybe it's not a problem everyone have.
I have Outlook 2010 x64 on a win 7 x64 PC. Kies installed and updated and my contacts sync wonderfully except for the contact pictures. So in my outlook I have all my contact database and a picture affiliated. Unfortunatly they aren't pushed to my Samsung Galaxy S i9000 Vibrant via Kies.
There is a workaround which require to sync contact to gmail and after sync my phone with gmail, but that ain't no solution for me for many reasons. For now I just handle my contact with no pics, but if someone may had a solution to this, it would be nice.

Good question.

sync everything to Gmail
then have your phone sync to Gmail
and you will get everything that you have in Outlook on Gmail to your phone

HTC HD7 with WM7 - there is no provision to synchronise with microsoft outlook using Activesync or Windows Mobile Device Centre.
Alternate way of using Exchange Activesync does look complicated
Please address the issue
This has been Answered
There are some workarounds & a 3rd party app, the solutions have been posted and can be easily found with a simple search (here is a hint, CompanionLink for outlook, Windows Live Connector, Gmail Sync). This is a very hot issue and I suspect there will be more solutions forthcomming

My Milage
I tried the Hotmail connector, I had some issues, it seemed to have problems dealing with more than 250 contacts. I am using the Demo version of CompanionLink and syncing to my gmail acct and that is working very nicely.
cheers

I followed method two from the two ways to sync and worked just fine. I kind of like getting away from Outlook anyway. Hotmail/Windows Live is great since it can used through any computer contected to the internet to update contacts, phone numbers, etc. But I could see if this is an issue if you primarily use Outlook.

The problem I have is my company isn't running Exchange so for me to get my calendar and contacts I need a way to sync with Outlook.
I've tried Hotmail Connector and it works well for a one time sync but if you have a lot of changes to your calendar I have to make the changes in Outlook and Hotmail.
I refuse to pay $40 for something that should work out of the box.

Unfortunately, both are cloud solutions, which are unacceptable to me for both security and privacy.
If the WM7 device were seen as an external storage device (apparently doable via the registry), does anyone know whether this could faciliate a direct USB sync with Outlook 2010 32-bit?
Both solutions are OK for a one off copy of Calender & Contacts but do not perform a true contniuous Sync with Outlook and do not handle TASKS

no microsoft myphone. All syncing goes through your live email address (like hotmail). For me, I had all my contact info on gmail because of playing on android with my hd2.
1. Logged into hotmail
2. clicked on import contacts under the contacts view
3. Clicked on gmail and followed the instructions
Took about 10 minutes.
For outlook I'm pretty sure you can do something similar, though I think you might need outlook connector from the marketplace to bridge it over from outlook to hotmail. You will only have to do this once, but then I guess your outlook will not be a syncable acct on you phone.
Just looked on my hotmail and it says to export your outlook contacts to a file that you can then upload to hotmail.
I'm a Windows Mobile User for 2 years now (SE Xperia X1) and loved the way I can sync it with outlook.
I have all my contacts (approx 500) in outlook and also use the calendar (+5000 items)
I've spent some time in the past to get the info on my contacts straight and I'm very disappointed about the lack of synchronisation options between WP7 and outlook.
Why does everything needs to be cloud-based.
I don't sync every day, but neither use outlook on everyday basis.
I never experienced syncing problems on either calender/notes/contacts or mail.
I have read something about features that will be added in the near future into WP7 and hope that local outlook synchronisation is one of them.
Hi guys,
I`m new to WM7 and i`m trying t sync my contacts as well. I don`t use Outlook and idon`t have an account. Is there any other way to get my contacts on te phone?
Thanks
So the windows 7 software allows syncing to google calender, email and contacts?
I'm stunned that there is no native support for Outlook synchronization with Exchange - this is old school and what I consider a core component of any smartphone I purchase.
I've just bought a HD7 assuming it would have this functionality (why would I check for this on a Windows phone, next I'll need to check the thing makes calls), guess I'm going to have to sell it on.
There maybe Third party solutions but I can't imagine they're ever going to work as well as a direct sync with the Exchange server in my office, giving Contacts, Tasks, Calendar Items, etc.
Absolutely gutted.
B
Of course there's native support.
If you have an exchange server, you have ZERO to worry about.
The issue is people who use Outlook for Pop and Imap. Or people who just use it for tasks and contacts. Without a Hotmail Connector, there is no way to interface with Outlook like the old school Active Sync did.
Again though, If you have Exchange, it works exactly like it does on any other platform, if not better. The only thing lacking right now is Tasks.
Jimbonics,
I could kiss you. My wife wouldn't like it (and neither would you most likely, I'm stubbly)
I've been reading phone forums, reviews and specs for what seems like months trying to choose the right phone (offline voice command via bluetooth is essential for me but Android doesn't do it and other devices have flaky support) so I skim read this thread: my bad.
Thanks for making my day.

Android - Outlook program

i'm moving from Windows Mobile to Android.
However i cannot afford to lose all my contacts just because stupid Android doesnt synchronize with Outlook!
So i really need a link to a program that either:
1) Synchronizes one's Android 2.3 Device with microsoft outlook
2) Synchronizes one's outlook with one's Gmail account
the program must be free (one way or another ), i dont want to have to pay even more money for something google should have taken care itself.
thanks a looooooooot to anyone who can locate that program for me, cuz i tryed and all i succeeded in was to find hollow posts and a program that you need to pay for
It has nothing todo with Android or Google
Outlook is an Exchange client, and email client and a PIM (personal information manager), not a mailserver
Android's mail client and contactlists synchs with mailservers that can be reached online - like Exchange - if you dont use Outlook as an Exchange client but as a local PIM only it has no way of syncing with a PIM which is only a local database of information on your PC.
Synching between local PIM's and your Android device can only be done by software on your PC and its not Google's or Android responsibility to provide synching software for your PC for every kind of PIM that exist. This is the responsibility of either the PIM manufacturer or third partys, like phone manufacturers or others. In case of an LG phone synch software is supplied with LG PC Suite, install this and you will be able to synch between Outlook and your phone (not between Outlook and Gmail)
Exporting your outlook contacts to Gmail is very simple if you just want this
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/o...ook-contacts-to-google-gmail-HA001148902.aspx
I highly recommend you start using Gmail as PIM instead of Outlook - atleast if you want an Android/Google phone and integration with this.
Once you've set up Gmail on your device, I suggest you use the free Outlook Connector. It now supports office 2010 (although not the 64-bit variety). That way, your Outlook e-mail (assuming you use your Gmail e-mail either as Pop or IMAP within outlook) and calendar are synced.
Or, if you prefer the 64-bit flavor of Outlook, you can do what I did: I use this program called gSnycit (it's paid software, though) and I use it to merge my data between the Google cloud and my PC/desktop. It's really useful too; by using it, I have the same e-mail across multiple android phones and even my 4th gen ipod touch.

Outlook to Android synchronisation
There is quick developpimg official tool: Android-sync. (As well as I am new here, it is not allowed for me to post a link - so, just add dot com to the "android-sync" and you are there)
It is free, syncing well android with Outlook - not finished.
So far it is syncing contacts (without pics/photos) without any issue, and calendar.
Authors promise to complete this tool with notes and tasks - it started somewhen in this January having cca 3-4 weeks period for new version...
I use it without any issue
LG sync ?3 on stock mobile does this really well. I was also worried about thistoo, but I am syncing at home and work outlook contacts and calander via this. Its on your internal SD card. downloadable too i think.
thank you all for your support!

[Q] Any updates on Outlook Sync?

Running fresh install 2.2 on captivate - I've spent the last several hours trying to find a way to sync the captivate with outlook... and nothing is coming up as a reliable & cheap way. I would have never thought that a modern(ish) phone would have issues syncing with outlook. Never had a problem from the old 8125 up to iphone 3gs... but thought I would check with y'all to see if anything less than $50 has come up that would do the trick. I've tried Kies/MyPhoneExplorer(didn't see outlook calendar data except holidays and recurring events). I don't want to mess with google calendars and I live by the calendars for scheduling business! Any recent developments I should look in to?
Android and Outlook have generally never been close friends. There are a few paid apps you can find that do a very good job of keeping your information in sync.
If your business uses exchange you can set up your exchange account in the e-mail app on your phone and it will allow you to sync you mail, calendar and contacts.

Unfortunately my work is my business of me, myself, and I - so I haven't popped for an exchange server, but the frustration is almost close enough to just look into getting one done - and I've had a hard time finding an ap that syncs outlook and respective contact fields properly with the phone. I understand it's a google vs. MS deal and so they don't want to make it an easy one.... but it's a stupid idea since it will just push people to use iPhone, IMO. For now, I've relented to having to clumsily use google sync and the google calendar program to sync between to two. I just hate having middlemen to have to do it.
I use Kies 1.5.3.10093_80. I hear the newer versions are blocked from working with the captivate, but the older version works find for syncing w/outlook on my home system.

I use the same apps, to keep contacts and calendar sync. For the E-Mail I just configure in Outlook the Gmail account as IMAP. The only drawback is with the custome field in google that Outlook can't handle.

[Q] How to sync note 3 with outlook 2010?

The Kies 3 don't have the option for sync with outlook. Anyone know how to sync note 3 with outlook? Please help. Thanks.
I have a case open with Samsung support in the UK about this.
They advise the Sync Tab in Kies 3 is missing, and that their software engineers are working on it, and that it will be installed in the future.
However support people generally know less than customers so I will believe it when I see it.
Meanwhile if anyone spots an updated version of Kies 3 internationally with this attached please advise.
The Note 3 doesn't work with Kies 2 which is annoying and asks for Kies 3, which I found on the Samsung UK website.

@ fonejacker - I'm with you on this mate....
So on top of the fact business users/travelers can no longer go outside their designated area...in my case Europe...and use a USA sim for example due to territory blocking...we cannot do a sync with Outlook using Kies 3....after just parting with £600 GBP for this phone its seems a bit much!
However as I have upgraded from a Note 1....the tech is awesome on Note 3 by comparison....I feel forced to accept these missing elements...
A statement from Samsung saying that 'not a lot people use this feature' is because those that used Outlook sync never complained it was missing!! lol

Here ya go. This should do the trick.
http://androidforums.com/android-ap...id-without-3rd-party-app-exchange-server.html
same goes for S4
I was just offered an upgrade for my S4 to Android 4.3. I upgraded. When I tried to sync my calendar, I was told I needed to upgrade to Kies 3. I did and now I also cannot sync. I'm very disappointed in Samsung for this. I hope they fix it soon.
Update: I also cannot back up my phone. Backup does not back up in the order shown in the backup items list. I am able to get through Contacts, S Memos, S Planner, Videos, Music and Photos. Miscellaneous content files fails and Call log hangs forever. I tried disabling those last two and then it hung on something else instead.
Same issue with my S4
no help from Samsung customer service
I just called Samsung customer service in Singapore. They apologized a dozen times but have no information about when the "improvement" to Kies 3 will be ready so we can sync and backup again.
Any new updates on this? Not being able to sync the Note 3 with Outlook is a huge inconvenience.

[Q] What processes needed to get Kies Air to work?

Hello,
I am trying to connect my S4 to home computer/wifi through Kies but when I tap "Kies via Wi-Fi" the screen just greys out after I accept the wifi warning popup.
I think I may have disabled something that Kies requires to work in my efforts to slim down the system.
For example I quarantined all the AT&T apps and Samsung Apps Widget, Samsung Books,Games,Hub,Music,Text-to-speech engine,WatchOn,WatchON Video.

Outlook connector? I know how it connects to various social media but how to sync just with my phone wirelessly?
I'm trying to avoid having to plug the phone into a cable and avoid paying for a 3rd party app.
Outlook Connector has nothing to do with social media. It is a plug-in for Outlook that allows it to sync with any Microsoft Exchange client without ever connecting the phone to a PC. You set up your e-mail account on the phone as an Exchange client and then it can sync with Outlook. You don't have to have a Hotmail account, but it works better with one. I have been using this method for years to sync my Android phones with my Outlook contacts, calendars and tasks. There is a lot of info on the internet on how to do this.
OK well this is interesting, possibly embarassing but I'm not sure...
In Connections/Connect and Share/Kies via Wi-Fi I press that, say OK to wi-fi warning and get screen greyed out.
So I went over to the play store and downloaded the Kies App...
Which works fine.
But the Connections/kies button still does not work. I'm not going to worry about it any more. Thanks for reading my mania..

You don't need an Exchange account, you just need to install the free Outlook Connector on the PC you have Outlook on with your calendar and contacts. When you setup the e-mail account on your phone do so as a Microsoft Exchange account, not standard POP3 or anything else. The plug-in is free and there's nothing to buy other than Outlook.
Here's one link with lots of info on how to do this.

Moved to S4 ACTIVE forums
Getting Kies to work takes an act of Congress, the sun/moon/Earth/Jupiter and Pluto have to be in alignment during a transit of Venus and you also need exactly $765432.10 in your BofA checking account on Black Friday the 13th. Once all that's set, touch your nose with your right ring finger and do a keyboard combo of command+tab+2+3+6 and hit the enter key with your right elbow to click on the 'connect' button in Kies (making sure you don't hit the shift key on accident).
Or you just find a better alternative. Kies is garbage and works less then half the time (if you're lucky). I've tried it on Mac OSX, Windows 7 and 8 and 3 different Samsung phones (2 S4As and a Rugby Smart). It's never worked properly for me so I gave up, froze it all and uninstalled it from all my machines. I think it's been the same experience for most people as well, unfortunately.
