Using APK Manager to fix apps that won't install under CM6.1b2. - G Tablet Themes and Apps

I downloaded APK Manager from here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695701
then based on what ibrickeditithink stated (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...postcount=2602) I pulled apart two game apk files, angry birds and fruit ninja (since I know that one works) and looked for differences that I could comprehend.
My best guess effort was that fruit ninja had this listed in their android Manifest.xml file
android:installLocation="auto"
whereas angry birds said something about installing to external card only. I figured since the mapping was messed up on our tablets that this would be a good place to start so I modified the xml file, used the APK manager to repackage it and pushed it though adb install to my gtab. it installed succesfully and there was an icon in my launcher for angry birds, i clicked it to open the file and my screen went blank and I could hear the music for angry birds but no video. I had to hit the back button to exit the game.
I'm not a programmer (not since q-basic anyways) so seeing as how I was already in over my head I decided to try again another day but i kept all the exploded files for both games to compare again in the future. Maybe somebody with some actual knowledge can step in at this point and fix that last little bit that is killing the video?

I might be able to get away with posting the androidmanifest.xml but I think posting the entire apk might go against forum rules. Although being a free app it might not apply, any mods want to clarify this?
rename the extension on this file from .zip to .xml before you re-package, you'll notice I also changed the allow ads value to false from true.

I am curious if the music is "in game" or just music when the game first loads. It could be the reason for no video is that it is trying to pull data from where the game expects to see it, but can not.
That, or Tegra 2 and Angry Birds are not video friendly.
Could be that the header fixes install problems but Tegra 2 is still an issue.

I'm pretty sure it's because it doesn't have Tegra support yet. I got these errors from logcat:
E/linker ( 4764): bionic/linker/linker.c:693| WARNING: `/data/data/com.rovio.angrybirds/lib/libangrybirds.so` is not a prelinked library
E/linker ( 4764): 895 mapping library 'libangrybirds.so' at 80800000 (index 00000008) through buddy allocator.
The library folder has two ARM folders inside, each with a libangrybirds.so file.
Changing the storage location does solve the problem installing it, however. The lack of Tegra support seems to be why no video shows.

Q3CE Quake 3 for X1 with 3D Acceleration

hi there,
i managed to run quake 3 but WITHOUT 3D opengl acceleration.
anyone suceeded running it with accel.?
Was it playable?
yes about 5 fps. but hardware accelerated is about 30 fps!
Can you give us details?
The Xperia runs most optimized movies at 20-22 fps, so I don't think we'll be able to run Quake III at a usable framerate anytime soon.
Could you make a guide of what to install and in what order etc? Maybe upload some files so other could do it?
Obviously dont post any game files or links to game files as this would contravene the anti-warez rules, but perhaps any custom config files if there are any.

I'd also like this.
Thanks.
ask not what people can link to for you but what you can google for them
http://www.google.dk/search?source=ig&hl=da&rlz=&q=pocketpc+quake3&btnG=Google-søgning&aq=o
got 5 to 15 fps on mine but this is the accelerated version. non accelerated version run at 1/5 fps ....and the reality is that you have more than 5 fps even if 5 is displayed... cf the diamond thread.
Can you post the configuration file or what files did you modify?
I tried it on my X1 and it just exits without errors after it ries to load a map. Also, it wasn't fullscreen.
Any help with configuration?
Here my config file.
menu are NOT in fullscreen but the game is in full screen
you can change the invert mouse configuration but don't change anything else.
Thanks, I'll give it a try.

is this with acceleration? which files do you have in q3 root dir?
Ok, it worked, even in landscape if i start q3ce while the keyboard is out. In this case, the menu is messed up, but you are able to guess where to press.
It's running at 4-5 fps with low graphics, I think. Anyway, thanks for the config file! Maybe someday we'll have a better optimized quake.
dont forget that q3ce has been program to run on intel 2700g so it's not optimize for our qualcomm with ati graphics
The conversion isn't working properly for me.
After the pakconvert I end up with a 123mb pak0 file (correct according to the installation manual). the 123mb file can't be manipulated though, I get errors when trying to copy, zip or do whatever with the file (so I deleted it.)
Anyone encountered this?
Alright, now I've gotten the convert to work, but my X1 keeps telling me that the execute file isn't a valid ppc application!
I've got the original Q3A files, who can send me (/point me towards) the proper PPC files (the non-illegal ones)? I think mine are broken ^_^ (googled).
Thanks!
you have to remove the libgl.dll and sometime have to softreset for the program to lauch
Strange thing is, it sais that the executable file doesn't work on my x1! I get the error that it's not a ppc file. And yes, I downloaded the PPC files.

JP6 Issues

The first thing I noticed was the need to download and install a new version of Task Manager through the Market.
Reinstalled all applications through AppBrain as the Market did not retain the record of my downloads.
Added Apps to my Home screens with no worries.
Today after Power Off the phone took ages to restart. Holding down the power on button solicited a vibration from the phone and then some time later the phone started.
After Power Off some of the applications on my Home screen disappeared:
Angry Birds
Cestos 2
Find Differences
Meteorlite WVGA
Slugs
After adding them back to the home screen I switched off again and back on. Same issue.
Same applications disappeared from the home screen and another App called Open Sudoku.
Anyone experiencing these issues on their i9000.?
Thinking of doing a factory reset of the phone, clearing the cache, format internal memory. Complete clean.
Start again.
Thought?
Starting fresh would be best and only option imho. On a sidenote have you noticed if you moved App 2 SD , the SD card doesn't get mounted when in external mode? I have as yet looked into it but I noticed I've lost external SD but it works fine inside the phone

Don't even know how to get into external mode. All the applications were installed at the same time so I assume they were all install to the same location. Your idea could be a valid one though. I have noticed Froyo is scanning for media each time the device is turned on. It's posible the icons are lost as a result of not retaining this information until the scan picks up on it.

Yep found out the Market/AppBrain had created a new profile as a result of the phones identification changing from phone to Samsung Galaxy S. Moving the applications across solved the problem.

I did a complete clean of the device and left the external memory card out of it while installing. All issues appear to be resolved for now but will continue to monitor it.
Found a new problem. Movie playback. Sound and video is out of sync by as much as 10 sec.
The movie plays perfectly on my laptop. Its a divx which I was led to believe can be played on this device. 25frames per sec video, sound is 112kbps, 2 channel, 48khz.
Any thoughts on this issue.
Problem solved.
Looks like Samsung lost the plote on this issue as well.
Running the movie in the built in player results in a sync problem between sound and video, 5 to 10sec.
Play the movie in Rockplayer Universal and the movie plays perfectly.
Is their an alternative player I can use which is free?

Mvideoplayer it is then.
Noticed when I add an external SD, Froyo creates two folders on the SD. Namely .android_secure and LOST.DIR
Any ideas on what creates these and for what or why?
Mvideoplayer has the same issues as the internal Samsung player. Out of sync sound and video. I get the feeling Samsung buggered something up with the coding for xvid and divx.
Two players with the same issues.
When I tested Rockplayer Universal it asked me if I should use the SystemMode or NormalMode. SystemMode I think uses Samsung System Files in some way and the result was a problem with alignment sound and video. Tested Rockplayer Universal in NormalMode I think used it's own internal files and it ran perfectly.
I guess JP6 is not as release worthy as we think it is.
When i first installed JP6 via kies had problems with apps not appearing on the android widget screen, the market icon didn't appear needed to do a facotry reset for that one, was slow and lagged. When i'm browsing for apps in the market place, using the 3g network, there was a constant error message popping up and couldn't download.
OCLF didn't work at first! needed to do a factory reset and then run the oclf, after which most of these problems seem to have been resolved, don't know how but now runs smoothly. Big thanks to ryan!!!!! samsung should employ you for their android software development team.
God help the sgs newbies who don't know about android, i jumped ship from the iphone 3g.

[Q] Error: File cannot be displayed or played

Any input on this issue I'm experiencing on my Bionic would be appreciated.
Get error stating "File cannot be displayed or played" when trying to play large video file
File is in MP4 format that will play on my PS3
File that won't play is 2.2GB but a 380MB file of same format does play
Phone is not rooted
I tried rebooting the phone by pulling the battery and that didn't help
Also tried MoBo player and Vplayer from android market and neither of those worked either
I'm an android noob (this my first, had it two days)
Not sure if the problem is the phone, the OS, the manufacturer, or just me so any input or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!
Umm... could be because the file is 2.2 gigs...

I have a friend with a Thunderbolt that is fairly certain he was able to play files of that size (he doesn't currently have any on it to confirm) so I wasn't under the impress this was an OS limitation.
I'd really like to try and figure out where the limitation lies so I can find a way around it or consider trading in the phone. If it's the OS there is probably nothing I can do but if it's only the Bionic then I may still have some options.
After a lot more searching I finally found that the Android OS doesn't support video files over 2GB. That really should be better documented as it took me a long time to find any place that explicitly stated that. I tried a 1.85GB file and sure enough it worked with out any problems.

New owner, video & music questions

Hi, I've bought 2x Nook HD+ for my young sons for Xmas and need to get them up and running before the big day. Apologies if my questions seem a bit basic, my knowledge is limited and I'm reading all I can to learn but don't have much time! I've decided not to root the Nooks in case I get it wrong and mess up Xmas, but i will probably have a go at some point. Does the Nook play videos & music on the stock rom? avi, mkv, mp4, plus mp3 sound files? or is there an app that will play them from a micro SD card? I'm planning on filling up a micro SD with loads of films for them to watch. Also, my lads currently use my ipad for games like angry birds etc, I presume these will play fine on the nook from the playstore? thanks
One that seems to get mentioned in forums and has high rating is Mx Player, I use it and is one of the first app I install when testing roms. Also for the software decoder, the Neon version is the one to get from play store, it's recommended by the developer (under settings). Use it to play ripped files of all kinds, including downloaded ones. Yes you can use this on the stock rom.
Yes I suggest you mx player, it plays any video up to 1080p fluently. Also Nook HD+ can run most of the games, even asphalt 8 on medium settings, so angry birds won't be problem at all.

Nook's for younsters
First off, I also like the MX Player for videos. Seems to play 'em all by default with no additional config by me.
On to my question though, which I think may be appropriate here. I recycled a couple Nook HD's for young grandchildren. Loaded them with games, vids, pics, etc. In the process of recycling I discovered that the one that was originally mine, still had a lot of old browsing history type stuff on it even after I reinstalled CM10.1 to emmc. Things like online bank sites, ebay, amazon, etc. in the form of apk files. I found the info in a folder called "cm data", NOT just "data". I opened the tar.a & tar.b folders in a rom backup that I was going to use, to inspect them. That's how I discovered it. Needless to say I didn't use that backup.
I had assumed when I re-rooted, so to speak, and reinstalled 10.1, it would erase all the previous stuff. I guess it doesn't. I know pics & vids are not backed up during a ROM backup and are left intact on the device. Does anyone have a list of directories, folders & sub-folders that are NOT touched via a Rom backup, a root and/or a CM install?
This would be handy to know when recycling or simply getting rid of devices. Or perhaps there is a better reset method before recycling that does a good clean sweep? Thanks.

The factory reset command in CWM has been modified to not wipe the cm_data folder which is installed if you ran my or bokbokan's hybrid install. To wipe it fully including any media files and the old cm_data folder, do a format 'data and datamedia' in the mounts and storage menu in CWM. That clears everything.

Move App to SD Card, leaved OBB Files behind

I think i have never noticed before, as this is the first device i have not rooted or installed a CR.
But i have noticed on large games with large OBB files, when moved to the SD, the OBB file stays on the internal storage, and only the apk file itself moves to the SD Card, things like game settings etc.
So it kinda makes it abit pointless having a SD Card apart form Photos, Movies and Music.
My 64GB Card has become redundant until i root / xposed it.
Anyone else noticed this, or found a work around, They removed adoptable storage didnt they?
working as intended.
it's one of Google's strangest choices, to not include what's typically the largest file in the "move to SD" option.
something you could do is manually move all your obb files to the sdcard, and then move them back temporarily when you need them.
or keep less large games on your phone.

Its BS that they still can't manage to do this in 2019..
My tablet has 32GB and I bought a 256GB MicroSD for this to store games. But it's pretty much useless..
I should of went with an iPad........
