So where are the good deals on MicroSD cards? I'm interested in at least Class4. What are you using with your GTabs?
I was wanting to hold out for a class 4 or better 32gb, but I don't think the included 16gb is going to last me much longer on it's own.
I have a class 6 8gb transcend card for backup that seems to read and write very well on the tab.
I usually just use google search and click on shopping to find good prices since they change constantly.

I just ordered a 16GB class 6 for my Tablet. I'll probably be swapping out movies on a semi-regular basis, so didn't want to get just a class2.
Got a class 4 32GB from NewEgg. Works quite well and exceeds the rated transfer speed most of the time.
I'm using the Sandisk Class 2 32GB card and it's great. Sandisk cards always perform better at read & write speeds than the stated.
You're not going to notice any difference in speed..... not until you connect to a PC that is the only time when you will find a Class 2 is slower than a Class 6.

Actually the class rating is for write speeds more than read. If your just using it to store music, video etc and not apps2sd or swap (why would you with a 32A?) than there should be very little difference.

whatever you read/write on the SD will suffer from a class2.
FYI, gallery etc they all create thumbnails etc on the SD card (no matter is your using app2sd or not).
I would DEFINITELY not get a class 2.
Maybe a class4, but with the difference in price I dont understand why not a class6.
I found very little difference between class 2, class 4 and class 6 when using for storage. (music, photo etc) These where all of the same size for testing (4GB cheap) and there was no noticeable difference in any of them as far as opening music form the player or browsing the gallery.
I know here in Canada if you can find them class6 16gb cards are twicw as much as the class2 cards. I paid $52 for my 16gb class2 and the cheapest I can locate on in Canada is $111 plus shipping, so not that cheap.

A thing to remember, is that the class is the minimum guaranteed speed – not the maximum. So a class 2 guarantee you a speed of mimimum 2MB/s, a class 4 - 4MB/s etc. But the maximum speed is actually the interesting thing – and that depends wary much on the quality of the card.
So when you buy a new card – have the quality in mind. I’ll rather buy a quality brand class 2 or 4 card then a “no-name ebay” class 6, as the maximum speed of the quality cards is properly better than that of the no name one… ;-)
I have gone through a dozen or more cards and I can tell you class 6 versus a class 2/4 makes a difference. The size of the SD card also makes a difference, the less space to look in the shorter it takes. If you bought a $300 phone like me $35 isnt so bad to make the most of it. My perfect balance is the 16GB class 6 I use in my daily phone, plenty of space and fast for apps2sd.

If they are same class then you should get about the same speed off either and all your looking at is size... if you want 8gb of space get the 8gb if you want 16gb of space get that one instead.....
I would not recommend using anything lower than a Class 6 card however.
I've run HC on a 8gb class 4 card for a while. No real problems. Maybe lags a little time to time, but that may also just be the rom.

I purchased two 8GB Class 10 cards. I use one for storage and the other for Honeycomb and it runs great.
Can the Nook actually even use the speed of a class 10? I know many phones can only fully use 4 or 6, with the only benefit of 10 being faster transfer while connected directly to PC. Class 2 is just slow on everything, of course .

I tried class 10 and class 4 16gb cards because I really wanted the space. I had all sorts of problems running on the class 10 once v04 honeycomb came out and the class 4 would run froyo and HC but it was so slow it couldn't be used. Some people seem to be using them but when I relaced it with a 8gb class 10 Patriot card, it runs great.
As to whether the nook can use a class 10, I don't know. I certainly know it MUCH faster with a class 10 than a class 4. I also bought a class 6 AData card but I have not tried it as a speed comparison. I was just tired of running back to the store to return them and test another so I bought two and started with the fastest one.
16gb might work with future versions but for now, I am sticking with 8gb cards.
I recommend the Patriot 8gb Class 10. The model I bought was the LX Signature Series: PSF8GMCSDHC10

Not necessarily. Class only implies a guaranteed minimum WRITE throughput, e.g. class 4 = 4MB/s, class 6 = 6MB/s, etc. that a particular class of card is capable of supporting. There is no guarantee that the tablet, camera, etc. is actually capable of achieving/sustaining that throughput rate though.
Read throughput can be anything, but are usually close to write speed, and another factor not as important most of the time with tablets is the latency of r/w accesses.
In the pre-SDHC days Japanese made(Toshiba - only Japanese maker) uSDs were the best in terms of speed and latency, followed by most Taiwan(various) made cards. Chinese(various) made cards were the worst by FAR. Also the pre-SDHC uSDs had varying r/w throughput and latency depending upon how "full" they were with the same general rule as above applying as to where manufactured. Presumably this is not the case with SDHC as the class implies that regardless of how full a card is that it WILL maintain that minimum write throughput.
8 v. 16: From the pricing that I've seen 2 8GB cards are cheaper than a single 16GB -> 8GB a better deal IMO. e.g. class 6 8GB are <$15 while 16GB class 10 are >$35 at least on newegg...
Another factor to consider is that you likely don't need a class 10 card unless you happen to have a very high performance/high resolution digital video recorder... i.e. class 2 is likely even good enough for most tablet video and other applications, but since class 6 cards can be had at reasonable prices(online, b&m are profiteeringly insane in their markups) those would probably be the best choice.

I'll let you know about class 4 4GB uSDs as a local b&M unbelievably has an approximately reasonable price on PNY(probably Taiwan) class 4 4GB uSDs, $10 which is cheap enough to pitch them if they're junk or use them for applications that don't require high throughput.
(On a side note most class 4 and class 6 uSDs work great with Nintendo DSes, which I'd suspect are MUCH more sensitive to throughput and access latencies... or so I've read...)

seems like alot of 16gb class 10 are having issues with running froyo off memory cards.
might get a 8gb class 10 instead. and a spare 16gb class 10.
I couldn't find a real answer to this anywhere, but I plan on installing CM7 to an SD Card - and boot/run from the card.
Which class of SD card should I be shooting for - and why? Are there any certain brands that work well/don't work well? The same for sizes - is 16GB going to be faster than 32GB ?

Search this forum and you will find that the Sandisk class 4 disks are great. The best part is they are available at most retail stores, if your impatient. I've been using a 16gb card for a while and it runs stable and smooth.

Some other cards do have known issues or possibly don't live up to their speed class rating. You might get lucky and get a decent one out of a bunch, but its very hit or miss. Other cards have also been known to die after using them for a bit.
If you're looking for something that is reliable and is consistent, then stick with SanDisk class 4.

I tried A-data 4GB and 8GB class 6, they both run great, tried a generic 16GB class 4, horrible slow. Haven't try any SanDisk yet.
sandisk 8gb class 4 seems to work ok for me
if i went anything larger than 8gb i would want above class 4 speeds i think

sandisk CL4, 8GB and 16GB seem to be the best bet. faster cards appear to be optimized for speed and large file transfers, but the CL4 and slower cards have better small file read/write speeds.
runnnig CM7 off the card, you want the better small file read/write speeds from the CL4 and slower cards.

Amazon Basics class 10 sdcards work pretty good for me...but i have never run a rom from the actually sd card.
But for $28 (16gb) it actually is class 10-i have all my music and videos and they all perform well. I used to get force closes on my music player back when i had music on internal memory but now that its on external sd i have no force closes
In conclusion the 16gb class 10 amazon basics for $28 has improved my phone satisfaction

This does not hold if you are running off the card. I have a 16GB class 6 Kingston and it runs terribly slow. My class 4 sandisk 16GB runs great.

Pretty much if you get anything but a class 2 or 4 Sandisk(i'd say class 4 for best of both worlds), you run a risk of an unstable system. The benchmark tests seem to put them many orders of magnitude above the higher class cards of other brands.
Plus they seem to be on special just about anywhere i've asked for them. Try radioshack if you are in the US.
I think you'll find that extensive benchmarking of a heap of cards has shown that the ones which are slow to boot are the same ones which have very low 4k random write speeds (as per monkeymike's post reference). The Sandisk 16GB Class 6 cards appear to have decent speeds for 4k random writes, ergo they will be fine to boot from. Other class 6 cards don't perform nearly as well as the Sandisk ones.
I've seen numerous benchmarks around the web showing that the Sandisk class 4's consistently match or beat the class 10's from other manufacturers and I've had great results with them in both my NC and my phones.
That said, its not going to run as well from an SD card (any sd card) as it will when properly installed as the main OS. I know this from experience. I was running CM7 from a generic class 2 for a while and it sucked. Then I got a Sandisk 16gb class 4 and that made a huge difference in usability. But over the weekend I finally took the plunge and actually installed CM7 directly on the NC-and that is a huge improvement over even the best SD card. Still, the Sandisk class 4 is a good way to test the waters.

Actually I have a Micro SD Adata Class 10 16GB. On my daily usage, I noticed better performance from games that requiere SD data storage and better speed for tranfer files via usb. On my experience, 1GB in 1:30min!!! Well that's when i'm transfer a unique .rar file, if you try with a folder of same size it takes a little more time
Another thing, if you're a gamer, trust me... you must get a 16Gb micro SD at least, because the heavy graphics games (like newest Gameloft Games) have very heavy quantity of data. Only with the downloadable data of Nova2, Asphalth 6, MC3, Street Fighter IV, FIFA12 and Real Racing2 you fill a MicroSD 8GB!!! D: but they are very good games ;D

Those are the minimum speeds, the class doesn't say anything about maximum speeds. It is possible for a lower class card to reach higher speeds than a higher class card. It should not be possible for a card of a given class to go slower than the class minimum.
I had the common lag in camera recording...when I changed to samsung 32GB class 10 all went fine , that was still in froyo. I got it for only 27€ in an spanish online shop called "pccomponentes".
Great deal..3 months so far and all running well.
The Classes are the speed to write on SD, If You have a class 4 is better than 2, but maybe is more expensive.

It's a good dilema, space vs speed. As others have said if you are a gamer go for speed. If you just have music a pictures on your SD and are patient then go for size.

Yeah, I suggest too to choose a class 10 if you are a gamer, a lower class if you're not.
But I don't suggest you to use a SD wich is less than class 4. Class 4 for in my opinion is the lower class to consider, others are too slow even for photos. Your device may suffer of this (be very slow)

yes it will handle 32gb, it will also handle 64gb cards
it is your choice on what size you get it is your requirementrs that decide this
i havea 32gb class 4 card and it suits my needs, class 10 are wasted in mobile phones
I also heard Note can handle 64GB MicroSD, though it's very expensive atm.
Sandisk Class 4 32GB would be an optimal choice for its price, quality and speed.
Samsung 32GB Class 10 for around $50CDN shipped on eBay. Performance is quite good.

It's newly released so not many people have their hands on. Got a lot of features which is kind of appealing to me lol :d.
Just that I read somewhere Class 4 provide much better handle than Class 10 at reading random data, while Class 10 excels at writing large files. So if you want to transfer lots of space then Class 10 would be better.
One more thing, the Class X only tells the minimum speed, while the maximum speed depends on the card make, brand, technology...
After searching online, I assume Sandisk is the best.
Over here class 4 and class 10 cards are almost the same price so I just went with a 16GB class 10 myself. Working just fine, though I didn't expect it not to anyways.

Indeed. My class 10 can write at 16 megabytes/second (not megabits!) and read at 20 megabytes/second, it's just that the specification is several years old and they defined speeds only up to class 10.

Class 4:
High sequential read speed/medium sequential write speed
Good random 4k_Thread read/write speed (needed to initialize some system relevant data faster that's why SSD on PC can boot so much faster than HDD)
Class 10:
High sequential read/write speed (if you copy media files very often that's the one for you)
Good random 4k_Thread read speed/very very VERY horrible random write speed
Both don't have Problems recording HD material on note and also playing them.
Remember : higher class doesn't necessarily mean it's better.

I've heard lots of good things about Sandisk lately..
I only have files I rarely use on the 'external' card. These are usually large files like mp3 or videos. As such I went for the Lexmark 32 GB class 10. It does the job very well.
Everything I access often is on the 'internal' sd to save battery.
