htc sense port - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've Just seen somewhere on this website about some people porting HTC sense to the Samsung galaxy S. If this is the case, is it possible to port HTC sense to the galaxy tablet?

I suspect it would be much harder to port to the Tab since it is a higher resolution than all Sense devices.
Regards,
Dave

And why would you want this in the first place?

Some people like sense
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App

Go buy htc then.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using Tapatalk

so if i want to buy tab i have to like touchwiz?
most of the tab users dont even use touchwiz any "mo"
if people wanting sense, so be it
different people want different things, if there's something could be done about it, there's nothing wrong with having lots of option for the tab we love

It would be great to have sense in the galaxy tab.

Agreed (I am a big fan of it). Although honestly with a higher resolution and more screen real estate Sense makes.. less sense It's a great interface when you have a small screen, I doubt it's really useful with a bigger screen (you can organize your home screen better)
Just my 2... cents

I like Sense, but thats why I got my Desire. I wouldnt like it on the Tab though.
Kudos to whoever can port it though, as youll have a hell of a challenge doing so.

Sense is the **** and everyone knows it. Samsung galaxy s devices would suck a WHOLE LOT less if it had sense. And yes, i love my tab, but my fascinate and the other 5 SGS phones have serious flaws, all that sense would help

Ok, give me a list of the fellation reduction that would occur if a Galaxy S had Sense.

Bwahaha.
Um. No. Looking prettier != better.
My HTC Hero had Sense, I put a MoDaCo ROM onto it instead as it was approximately a metric ****load faster with nigh identical functionality, it just wasn't quite as eye-candy infused.
By the same token, I _could_ run a HTC Desire port on my N1, but it gets a MIUI ROM instead, as once again, similar functionality, faster UI, smaller memory footprint.
Personally, I think Samsung have done a surprisingly good job with their custom apps. The widgets are sorely lacking but LauncherPro+ (which I own anyway) makes up for that.

sense
sense on this screen size would need some work, all the widgets would look too small at the usual resolution ( 800x480 ) that sense uses for most devices.
this could be ok though, you might be able to fit more widgets on each screen, or may be the widgets would all ends up huge and look silly, if that did happen i suppose we could use LCD DENSITY CHANGER to scale it back a bit.
in short i would love to see a desire-hd port for the tab, i probably wouldnt use it as my daily rom but its always fun flashing new roms and having options,
"ps, anyone else tried lcd density changer on the tab set to 180dp , with ADW or launcher pro set to a grid of 8x6 , looks brilliant and uses the screen space to best effect"..

What do you think about it? Is this is a really revolution?
I think this phone looks very nice with a stunning UI. The technical specs are nothing special, but this could be quite a hit i think.
thats a savage ass phone, you kno what would be sick tho if you could change the color of all the LED's on it two from blue to like purple or something. It's linux it should be fully customizable like that
I love the look of this phone. Very appealing. I will be interested in seeing more about it.
This would be the perfect MP3 Player. But for a smartphone, I do not know if it will offer the extreme flexibility of any of the four TRUE smart phones: Symbian S60, Windows Mobile, Android.
Does this phone have a file system, etc? Also, does Palm Pre and Palm Pixi have a file system and file manager too?
But I've seen this phone before, and I was excited, and still am.
I just don't expect it to be smart-centric. I expect it to be more like a Zune HD experience with some "quasi-smart" features like on the iPhone.
Original Poster, I think you should compile links on the first post and make this the official ELSE anticipation and discussion thread.
More Links http://else.bz/
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amk7XzgMcTs&feature=related
But there are a few things I would like to know more about this phone.
*Judging by the Flash Videos, the keyboard on the phone sucks (but there are some pretty cool features). But the reason why it sucks is mainly due to the layout and size of the keys both in portrait and qwerty.
*I haven't seen any file manager. Will it be on this phone, and how complex is it?
*Speaker quality?

He was talking about the buttons being on the right side of the phone. Easier for us left-handers to use. I don't think you can change hardware location in settings
Use it upside down maybe!! too bad for you!! Does look interesting, but not entirely better than tab bars and such.. it does have that added sliding left feature and I guess it being capacative would not require much tension from the thumb. I am always up for new technology to push the limits.

Wow, maybe the device will not only have rotate orientation buy also flip orientation. That would be awesome!

It's all going to come down to how they market this phone. It looks great and definitely has appeal to those of us with a technical background and who love customization. But what carrier will they market it to? Can it be customized to settings that people find interesting such as led colors, programs, etc? and the biggest one: WHO will they allow to carry the operating system. Getting google to back this would be great, getting Nokia to make a phone able to support this would be great, but which one will have the advertising budget to challenge Apple and the like to the duel that will occur when this and the next generation of iphones is released? A small company like Access is going to have a really hard time trying to compete with Motorola, Nokia, Google, Samsung and Apple especially.
I'm sorry for reviving a dead thread, but does anybody know the name of this phone and the maker? I think the phone failed to launch and the maker went out of business and that's making it hard for me to find any information on this. A name should help, thanks.
The Linux based smartphone have actually been out for awhile. I think (Don't hold me to word on this) there is one called tuxphone. But I'm not sure if that's Linux based when I think back on it...

Animated flip clock!! Tell me something now!

lol!!
I know, I know, thats not the way to ask for anything.. I thought it was funny.
But for reals.. I see all these beautiful clocks that mimic the HTC look, but why on earth do none of them actually "FLIP"?
Like, this is the main reason I actually like that clock. Is it possible? Or is it too heavy on the resources?
This is the question!
BTW, I searched for about an hour this morning.. before people go start telling me to search.. Maybe I am using the wrong terms in my search.. Dont know, but if someone could help me, that would be great.
Found this, but the animations look horrible...

miui
miui for the win it has flip clocks but they are 12 hour clocks but they have mods under miui us
Thanks guys... Wish MiUi was a go, but it's not available for the Atrix
WTF.. I need to learn some coding I guess..
Someone out there has to know of an app that probably got pulled because it copied HTC's look... Isnt there anything that actually flips?
Please!! Im flippin flamin!! LOL
Sorry, I know there are flip clocks out there... but I am looking for one with a decent animation basically.
MIUI has a nice flip clock
Go Launcher Ex also has a flip clock, not yet quite as nice looking, but I believe themeing is possible, so I guess you could make one or persuade someone to make one nicer
since the Atrix does have a locked bootloader it is not possible to port MIUI to it since it is 2.3.5 now. Anyways its is not easy to animate the flipping animation because you need a good designer and quite some coding skills. MIUI and HTC are the only ones who has the manpower to realize such stuff.
You can hire a good coder and programmer and let them make one and sell with profit

I just want a nice flipping clock!! Is it not possible to convert the existing one for MiUi over to an APK form?
Why oh Why do I have to subject myself to High Tech companies UI just for a flipping clock? This is the question of all time.

Rolling another green android as we speak.
I am definitely addicted to Android since discovering MIUI.us 2.2.3. Take the best features of IOS, add to it the best features of Android, throw in a liberal dose of nuance, style and flair and you have the perfect ROM.
I never thought i'd be saying this but it really is an order of magnitude better than Cyanogenmod. The infamous Android lag is all but gone! The N1 touchscreen wonks..gone! It's like i died and woke up in smartphone heaven. Most of the apps i used to use i don't need any more. Decent File Browser? Check. Decent Browser? Check. Decent SMS/Dialer/Alarm? Check!
What i don't need in a ROM are a hundred features that i have to turn off because i don't use them. What i do need in a ROM are core features that just work well. Consider me converted!
I seriously wouldn't trade my two year old phone for anything on the market right now, not even if it were free. Not a chance!
Wich phone you own?

Yeah you're right, but i just don't like it in the same way i don't like Sense. It's just too much
I'm hooked on IceCremeSandwich's with no-sense!
pure curiosity
first, i have the android phone, then switch to iOS then at now, android again feeling to be more comfy with android (though iOS still rocks on perf and display)
but guess, loving now android coz to put my dev-inside
MIUI.us is working out so well for me. I have apps that never worked well on CM7 that are working perfectly now. The famous N1 touchscreen wonk has disappeared completely, (which is a miracle in itself), and not only are the stock apps better than AOSP, (Gallery, you know i'm talking about you), but they're better than the usual replacements. (Sorry, Quickpic).
A big plus is a beautiful U.I that is consistent throughout the software and on par with IOS. It's like somebody read my mind and made a bespoke ROM for me! It's all the little touches too. The nice animations, the way the music fades out when you pause it, (not to mention Lyrics support and a pretty visualisation), options for re-ordering Bookmarks in the Browser, a good Notes app, in built backup for apps, system and theme. It's incredibly fast and smooth too. Without the OC i had in CM7 it actually performs better!
Pics for the uninitiated:
How about a stock Data usage app, or a Firewall:
How good is that?
I love my android phone...
Still my first (galaxy mini), but i hope my next one will be better...

Who will make my next phone?

Hey all.
Basically i just want to hear all your thoughts on your current devices, and what you think of the next device in that product family.
My thoughts.
My first android device was the Motorola defy which really sold android for me, the fact i could treat a phone horribly by accident and it not care was a really solid selling point. The developer community for it was really quite strong too, it even receiving CM10 before my current S2.
The original transformer isn't the prettiest, lightest and fastest tablet anymore (not that it was ever lightest SO MUCH GLASS) but it was and is my first tablet and still works amazingly today. Good job Asus.
My current phone is the Samsung Galaxy S 2 which i bought outright after everyone that had one giving raving reviews and a quick view of the forum showed a very active community. Little did i know the issues the developers faced to get the aosp roms working properly, it is not pretty and it is entirely the fault of Samsung and their hardware partners (I am looking at you, yamaha). I know this and love the developers for supporting my S2 so well, especially codeworkx whom has been moving devices lately.
I love the idea of getting the S3, but i would only be going for the larger screen and if all i want is the larger screen why not go even larger and get the Note 2? Especially after its drop test video. It is a tank of a phone.
The One X+ Kind of interests me with unlocked bootloaders etc. But the fact i have to flash the kernel separately to the ROM every time (or at least that is my understanding) would really annoy me.
After the defy i would rush to a unlocked bootloader on a Motorola. That and screen size were the only issues i had with my defy.
But my current plan runs out in December which is only a few months away and i would love some ideas on devices coming into Christmas season.
Currently i am thinking Note 2, but i don't want to have half baked aosp roms because of hardware support. Ideas?
And yes doing a BYO 6 month plan with my local carrier is an option.
How bout this one?

There are some really cool devs and contributors who have written apps and scripts that enable you to flash everything all at once, kernel included.

I have the SGSIII and the One X. In the case of the One X (not the One X+ but it's basically a refresh of the One X) yes, you do have to extract and flash the boot.img via your pc using fastboot and the flash the modules via recovery...not as bad as it sounds. It's a great phone.
The SGSIII not only has a bigger screen but a higher resolution than the SGSII. There are many ROMs for it and in the case of the US variants I've flashed ROMs made for the AT&T variant on my T-Mobile one. (The international version also has great development.)

Hey Tommy thanks for the reply, i take it your experience is from the EVO?
Thanks Babydoll one of my friends has the one x which i rooted/cm10ed for him the other day, it was an interesting look into HTC custom roms and i must say it is not overly difficult or anything. And i did see the scripts Tommy was talking about, they would be nice in easing the transition. How do you find the one x build quality? I heard it was hit and miss between users.

Make your note better and faster

Nova creates about a one second delay before my click registers when I click on an app such as messaging for example. I went straight back to Touchwiz since there is no reason for that.

THIS!!!! I dont know why people keep changing launcher from touchwiz to nova launcher!!!!
nova launcher is laggy compared to touchwiz on galaxy note 4!! i keep going back to TW after trying nova launcher.
Now im starting to like the mi launcher prime, its been 4 days im using this launcher thou i experienced lags but who cares,
i just love the overall ui of my phone and the themes.
Cos nova is better than tw.... That's widely regarded. If you prefer tw that's fine. I probably don't like the colour of your bathroom. That's fine too.. It's called preference!
Wow great guide man! You solved all the worlds problems.
Maybe you can add a third step: Charge your phone after at night so you don't need to buy a new one after the battery is dead.
Another tip. Buy a SD card to store data on it. So you gain 37,43% cpu speed. I swear
Speaking of TW and Nova, one of the reasons I've been using Nova for the last few years (besides the customization and fluidity) is the option the backup the settings thorough the built in option or TB when switching roms.
Is there a way to backup the settings and grid on TW? Built in option or TB...?
I actually never tried to do it using TB because I preferred not to mess with system apps and backup user apps or xml backup...
Why would any sane person use a screen protector? It has gorilla glass 4, as long as you aren't stabbing the phone it will be fine

Satan, is that you ??
Really? Half of you really need to get a sense of humor. The hardest part of dealing with peoples concern with any samsung device is their hatred for Touchwhiz. Of course this in not a guide. Rather a simple suggestion to those who think Galaxy Flagships are laggy. They arent laggy. The Natural Touchwhiz Home launcher is built that way for looks. replacing it with Nova or others provides a quick response and stock AOSP look while maintaining the additions Samsung gives us.
Screen protector are for scratches not cracks IMO but even GG4 can crack and get scratches

Other people in the gorilla glass 4 thread have already gotten scratches on their screens. Even when GG3 came out everyone said you didn't need a screen protector. Then look what happened, people with sand in their pockets were tearing it up. I don't believe every claim companies make. Yes is it stronger. I will still use a rubber on this chick.
