[Q] Swype on NC? - Nook Color General

Has anyone had any luck loading Swype onto the NC? I know that there are many different APKs for various devices but I was thinking maybe the Galaxy Tab one would work?

I would like to know as well.

I've tried the DroidX version with no luck. Also, I tried the SlideIT keyboard, with the same results. I've put the apk in /system/app and set permissions to rw-r--r-- and then used the NookColor Tools app to select it. Both show up as selections, but when selected no keyboard shows up.
I'd love to get this working, I'm hoping we could use the copy and paste features of the Swype keyboard.

I would love to see Swype on this, too. In my opinion it's the best keyboard option. The standard keyboard is just too difficult for my smaller hands to type on (holding like a cell phone).

Swype is prolly the last thing (sans 2.2 and all that comes with it) that Im really looking forward to getting on here

I've gotten the DroidX multi-touch (small key fonts), ShapeWriter (small keyboard) and Smart Keyboard (best so far imo) to work following the NookColor Tools instructions.
Swype will not show..

There are some directions in the other keyboard thread to get your DroidX font size bigger:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=872470
If you like that kb except for the font size, you may want to give it a try.
Disclaimer: My NC is still in the mail, I haven't tried it yet.

Has anyone had any luck installing Swype 3.25 Beta on NC stock rooted? It's been a year. Anyone know where there is a thread discussing this or working on this?

I have version 2.6 working perfectly. I love swype!
Sent from my NookColor using Tapatalk

Please help, but first, let me check are you on Stock NC Rooted, or on CM7?
My NookColor is Stock NC B&N 1.3 Rooted. Swype Version 2.6 would be OK, although I prefer 3.25 beta if possible.
Would appreciate steps on how to get either working.

3.25 is working fine for me, but i'm on cm7.

Pity i'm looking for Swype on stock rooted. Having said that, I wish I could have the full nook experIence on CM7 with Swype.

I have it and been using version 3.25 for some time on CM7 Nightly 197. Never had any problems.

I'm running swype 2.6 on cm7 off usd. Works great!

Thanks, I have just about had enough of the boot loops with Rooted NC 1.3, so will likely go the CM7 route over the weekend.

Personally Thumb Keyboard is the best keyboard for any device. I use in on my nook and gtablet and it works great. I think its better than swype and text9.

Have Swype on CM7 (RC2) but don't use it ... the Thumb kb is soooo much better, even use it on my phone altho it's a little more difficult

I have put latest Swype beta and Thumb Keyboard on CM7, both work fine.

SwiftKey Beta

Its the best keyboard I have used so far. Ive used the htc stock one, swype, droid x multitouch, and swiftkey is the best for texting. Its in the marketplace right now.
I might check this out. How does it work with Fat Fingers?
I just gave this a shot. It's definitely better than the stock keyboard for texting, the word prediction is great. However, my speed/accuracy easily surpass this with Swype, maybe it's just me (Slow with this/Fast with Swype?). But still a great find for those that don't have/want Swype.
In response to the fat fingers question, the letters are slightly narrower than the stock HTC keyboard, although the predicted words are on quite large buttons that makes them easy to select.
I just can't do swype. I need to look at the screen to find the letters and with the aria the screen is to small.
Sent from my HTC Aria
I installed and tried this out this morning. It's scarily accurate at predicting the next word (sometimes it knows what I want to say even before I do).
I'll stick to SWYPE for portrait mode texting (getting to be fairly fast and accurate now), but for landscape I'm definitely going to try out SwiftKey a bit more.

Yeah this application is pretty awesome at predicting text, and is my preferred keyboard at the moment.

not to be "that guy" but I personally have alot better luck with the droidx keyboard posted over the stock sense one and swiftkey

Any other keyboards..?

The keyboard is awkward after switching from a iPhone, I found a iPhone keyboard skin but since the screen is small it won't put the keyboard on there. The numbers is in a odd spot to get to. Is there any other keyboards for the Aria?
i see two on page one of this forum and another on page 3.....
Swype is okay but takes some getting used to IMHO. I've been using Swiftkey beta and liking it.

The HTC IME mod keyboard is pretty good as well and you can make your own skins for it.

I'm digging Swiftkey. Tried Swype and like SK better. I tried typing as fast as I could in landscape mode and it got all the words right. In portrait it was so-so... but that is expected (and heck, I wanted a smaller phone, so I asked for less keyboard real estate).
I just saw this while searching for something new because swype stopped working as of today. First time I ever heard of SwiftKey and I really like it! Pleasantly surprised.

How do u use the skin ucreate?
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
You have to drop it onto your SD card and then use a file manager to navigate to your SD card and install it.
Once installed you go into settings then languages and keyboards and select the keyboard you just installed.
Once selected long tap in an input field and choose input method, choose your new keyboard and you are done.

Downloaded the swiftkey beta, used if for a day, liked it so much I took them up on their offer of a reduced price to buy the non-beta version on initial release(today). Good stuff and it was only US $.94.
One More Vote for Swiftkey
+1 for Swiftkey. In my mind it combines the best of a traditional touch keyboard and Swype.

Cool, thanks for this info too, I am going to try SwiftKey later on.
Am I crazy, I liked the keyboard on 2.1 over 2.2 or are they the same, just a different color?

Swype pad beta

does anyone have a swype keyboard that works with cyanogenmod 7? i installed the swype keyboard but it doesnt show up in the input methods
You probably installed the installer. Open the installer and install swype itself.
If you are talking about Swipe pad, it's a mini-launcher, not a keyboard.

You have to enable swype in the settings. Go to settings-->Language and Keyboard and enable swype.
Have been using it for about a week and really like it.

I use MultiLing Gingerbread Keyboard, it's free, many option, theme, and more importend i like this keyboard !!!
So far, so good, i don't have any problem, regular up date.

I prefer the stock keyboard. works very well
me
i too used the market version by s.lin and even if i randomly type at silly speed its working just fine, its the best keyboard i ever used on the tab.
love it !
I don't really see what the fascination with the GB keyboard is.
IMO the best keyboard for our Tab is Thumb Keyboard as its designed for the tablet in mind.

Because its simple. Don't get me wrong, Thumb Keyboard is great, but its a bit too chunky for me.

Best keyboard....

So this is my first phone that doesn't have a physical keyboard and I'm having some trouble. I came from both Droid one and two and the LG touch so I have always had a physical keyboard and now without one I'm somewhat lost. So please anyone with a keyboard app recommendation please speak up!
P.s. I have big hands and tend to hit the wrong key because of that.

Swift key. It learns as you type. Once using if for a while it predicts almost everything you are going to type
Sent from my ThunderBolt using XDA App
I use flext9 because you can swipe the keyboard or use the keys normally, way smoother than swype IMO.
Sent over Al Gore's internet via a rooted Thunderbolt.

Definitely swift key! It's so good at predicting your words that some times it feels like it's reading your mind.

Well I already had swift key from it being the free app of the day so I loaded it up and started using it again and so far so good everything is at least better than the stock htc keyboard so I'm at least happy about that.

+1 for flex t9 if you like swyping or swift key for just regular keyboard use. Although t9 can do both, just doesn't predict.

+2.. I use the paid version, so I can bring up the directional arrows as needed. At $0.99 it isn't bad.

+3 lol paid too, deff worth it.
Keyboard from Gingerbread 2.3
There's a free and paid version. Best keyboard available.
+4 for gingerbread keyboard
i love how fast it is
I've also been using the gingerbread keyboard from the market for a while now (even back on my Droid X) and I love it.
I have used swype, swift and the GB keyboard.
For texting, landscape or portrait they are great.
The problem is for emails. Once you lay the phone over to landscape and start to type an email, the kbd takes up the whole screen. Is there a way to shrink the keyboard say 20% or so?
I got Gingerbread, the paid one
I had the G2, and Swype sucks on a bigger screen in comparison, not to mention Thunderbolt doesn't even come with it. I downloaded it and said wtf is this. Idk if its the screen or just not being pre-installed
I use the HTC_IME keyboard
