[Q] Auto-sync problem - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
maybe it's common knowledge, or problem, but i'm not aware of it
why is it, that every time i tick autosync on, on both my mail accounts, it turn itself off after some time?
that way gmail notifications are useless..

er, anyone?
so, is it safe to say that sgs gmail client can't 'push mail'?

Maybe you are using some task killer that is killing the service needed - running in the background?

tnx for the answer, started to think it's a mystery behind
no, no taskkillers, i just don't get any mail until i check manually, kinda sux.
I'm starting to suspect that its because i have 3 accounts, 1 youtube and 2 gmails, but only gmail accounts are set to autosync.
So if nobody else have this prob maybe it's rom related, i still have stock xfjm3
clueless..

[Q] Better mail application for Gmail?

the stock Gmail application is great but it's a real battery drainer since it utilizes push. i'm only 19 really, so i don't need to see my useless mails about facebook updates(and stuff) that immediately.
the stock Email has no threading and the UI is pretty meh so ye.
is there any nice gmail client there that has mail threading, a nice simple UI and an option for interval mail fetching? tried K-9 and Maildroid, no threading on them lol.
if not, Google please get us an option to enable push or simply use fetch.
i'm currently using JuiceDefender to "disable" data transmission when my screen is idle. ideally by that, no "push" mail when my screen is locked.
Why not deactivate the autosync of gmail?

I tot push is supposed to be more battery friendly than fetch?

You have to maintain a data connection at all times no?
Yes, but it still is far less battery demanding than checking for mail periodically.

In OP's case it's better to turn off data all together.
BTW, how does one turn off HSPDA and enable 3G only on a Bell phone? There's no option in settings/ wireless networks/mobile networks to set this.
hmm I shall try push gmail overnight, currently it's at 10% drain with no syncing of anything, nothing. but with a connection on. thanks guys.

Agenda widget taking a long time to load

Hey guys,
I was wondering, if anyone else has experienced this.
I use the HTC Calendar Agenda widget on one of my home screens, and sometimes it seems to never load entires. The calendar also does this at this the same time. The loading icon appears, but not entries ever appear. Anyone else got this problem?
Thanks
Lots of views, so I assume that no one else has had this problem? Any ideas for a solution.
I have had this problem aswell. I noticed a few times that it done it when the sync icon was displayed.
Will monitor this to see if it only happens when the handset is syncing.
Just seen my handset starting to sync again so i opened the Calendar and it has stopped at the Loading... screen again. So looks like it is waiting for the sync to finish before showing the agenda.
Is this the same with your handset?
Ok sync now finished. As soon as it finished the agenda displayed instantly.
I will need to check if it only happens when the phone is syncing or not. Thanks for the info though.
Hey guys, I will see if I can replicate and fix this problem. I can think of a few reasons it might happen so hopefully I can squeeze a fix into the next release.

I am confused. The next release of what exactly?
I am simply using the HTC Agenda widget, so I don't see how you can fix it?
Lol, sorry, I thought you meant Android Agenda Widget
I think it is still a bug in AAW so I will try and fix it anyways
I'm still getting problems with this if anyone can help?
i had this problem too, i deleted the calenda data and let it redownload events from gmail and now its is fine
Cool. Thanks mate. Is there a fast way of deleting all the data? Still fairly new to Android

I think the way to do it would be to goto your Account & Sync options and remove and re-add your google account.
Unless there is another way

actually the way i did it was go into settings, applications, find the calendar and select clear data
then just wait till it syncs to gmail and downloads all your events again

Just to update, i done this and all seems to be working fine for now.
My Facebook birthdays and events disappeared also and wouldn't come back, so i cleared my Facebook for HTC Sense data also and went through the setup wizard for Facebook again. After sync they all appeared again fine.
So far calendar is running smooth. Fingers crossed it continues.

Gingervolt email notification

I'm sorry I'm a noob, but I've searched and read a lot and I don't seem to see anyone with this exact issue....
I have a few email accounts. Before I flashed to gingervolt, I had messages from both accounts accessible in the same list and notifications worked for both. Now, I must choose which account I would like to access at a time.
I really can't find any settings to adjust this on the phone. Does anyone have a clue what may be wrong or is this just the way Gingervolt behaves?
Thanks.

If I'm the same as you you mean 2 accounts in Gmail. You will get notifications for both but you have to view each account seperately. I've never seen it any other way.
Sorry, I know I wasn't very clear. I've got a gmail account and then another non-gmail account that I get via POP/SMTP. It seems I only get notified for the account marked as primary and I have no way to change the frequency with which it pulls from the POP server... I believe it's set to around 30 mins, but I can't find a way to change that at all.
Does anyone know how to (using GingerVolt):
1. Change the polling frequency of a POP account?
2. Set the notification to work for both gmail and another account, regardless of which is primary?
Thanks!
Ok... So, I think K-9 mail is going to give me more frequent polling. Still testing....

Glad you're getting it figured out
I thought the stock email client did this... Not the gmail client but the AOSP email client which allows 1 centralized box. You can also specify how often it goes and checks for new mail.

Which is exactly why I posted... I thought those capabilities would be in the mail client after flashing to Gingervolt.
K-9 still seems to be working well enough for me.
Ok... I have figured out the proper imap settings so the sync time is no longer an issue like it was with POP, but I am sticking with K-9. It is really well done. The ability to set the notification quiet time and a unified inbox are worth it alone.

[Q] mail sync

I am using the simple email app included, Gmail is disabled. Using arhd 10.1 but this problem was here long before with original stock.
I guess I have already tried all possible combinations to have the mail sync, maybe someone else has an idea on how this works if at all.
In settings I tried the smart sync, then each number of minutes, whatever I put in there, the only way to have the mail query the server is to manually open the application. For instance, I send myself an email from desktop, my ipad picks it up in a matter of seconds, I mean the fu$#er is in sleep mode, cover on, then I almost instantly hear that notification sound. The One however, I could wait all day, no sign it knows about it.
I have 2 email accounts configured, yahoo and Gmail, I also tried to add one at a time, nothing seems to help.
Thanks for any idea on how to make it work or any suggestions on a third party app?

Smartsync takes time to build a database of data about your usage and when to check for email. For Gmail the best bet is the Gmail app, which will get almost instant push notifications.

I'd rather be using only one app for my email accounts - - the stock mail for instance.
It's just that no sync mode seems to work, be it smart or not

like the guy said above. smart sync needs to build a repour before it will know when to check. its not having information pushed to it like the gmail app is. your best bet is to use the 2 separate apps since each individual app has the ability to push emails immediately while HTC's smart sync or manual sync is just basically timed sync-ing. its just that smart sync is timed to how the phone learns your usage?

As I said the manual mode doesn't work either.
I am going to try k9 for now..

Okay, I think the problem might be elsewhere: the k9,same as mail doesn't seem to sync either. I have tried this over wifi and data, in power settings the sleep mode is disabled, I even disabled power saver.
Does email synchronization works for anyone excepting gmail users?
I am going to enable gmail, see how that behaves with sync..

Manual mode as in your in the mail app and request it to refresh? And the email still doesn't come through? Not sure then.. I used smart sync for a while then I found it to not update fast enough for my needs. But it did always work.

The mail app syncs over wifi, I found out. Yes, it took a while (set it up to check at 5 minutes.). However, it still doesn't work when screen is off.
While on data only, the whole sync is very conservative. Unless I open up myself the mail thing it doesn't bother to refresh. In fact, the only thing synchronizing over data is weather from BW widget, but even then I am afraid it only refreshes itself when opening the screen. Ah, and Google play, I get notifications over mobile data as well.
I mean I used to want this conservative data behavior when on 100mb data plan, however now I have 3gb to spend and having trouble with email notifications?
I suspect there might be a misbehaving app will try reinstalling everything and one app at a time..

5X does not sync emails

Hello guys, I would like to have your help on one issue. When the phone is in standbye, it does not sync email. Just when I switch the phone on, than it starts to sync the account. As a result, I am not notified about new emails on my android wear smart watch.
I assigned all the permissions for the application. Also, the battery saver is switch off. Do you have any idea what should I try?
Thanks.
Have you tried to use some other e-mail application? It sounds to me like the phone have somewhat aggressive doze settings that essentially snooze all apps as soon as the phone is put to sleep.
Yes, I also tried other email applications, it is the same. But what is strange that the calendar is syncing, I receive a notification on my smartwatch even when the phone is in standby.

Exchange or IMAP?

IMAP accounts. I somehow solved the problem. The ROM I was using was the original Chinese. Now I installed the Global ROM from MIUI forum and everything is OK...
