[Q] Recommend for App for Camera? - G Tablet Themes and Apps

I am looking for an app that will use the camera on the gTab. The camera apps don't work well since it is front facing. Some sort of chat app maybe?
Thanks,
E
TnT lite with Google Market

I don't understand the question... what are you trying to do?

Qik seems to work for me. There is a thread in this forum with a link for the apk.

I would like to find something that uses the front facing camera. Maybe something like (shhhh) Facetime. Qik works for sending video, messages so I have tree it out now. Just seeing if there's something cool out there is all.

Bump for Android

Didn't see a topic on this, did a search so apologies if there is one...
"Bump" that application that the iPhone adverts seem to feature heavily is now on Android. It basically just shares your contact info with another phone by "bumping them together":
http://www.downloadsquad.com/2009/1...ick-contact-sharing-app-not-iphone-only-anym/
Downloaded it today and it's pretty good, free aswell.
Seems ok. My only quarrel is it uses some internet service to store/transfer your contact info(is this how the Iphone does it as well?). I'd prefer it turn on and use bluetooth instead. idk just my 2c
Anyone know if we can or if sometime in the future we'll be able to bump android to iphone?

I'm pretty sure the current android app works with the iPhone app but the new iPhone app has some new features we don't have as of yet.

That program looks disturbing and sleazy.
1) by proximity I presume? then how do you know it isn't being set off automatically? I.e. on a subway when the train lurches and someone happens to be standing next to you...
2) goes through your whole contact list and compares them using a 3rd party service? Ouch -- SERIOUS security failure here.
can't find it in market. lots of stuff has disappeared? Camera Zoom FX, Snap Photo Pro, Mobile Defense. What the heck! Where did they go?

[Q] Bell's Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant - Possible to unlock Front Facing Camera?

Hey everyone, relatively new user here. This is my first post. I've recently changed from BlackBerry to the Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant offered from Bell. It's a fantastic phone and I don't miss BlackBerry one bit.
A question though regarding the phones front facing camera. I have downloaded a few apps that should be able to utilize the front facing camera in the phone, however it does not look like I am able to use it. My guess is Bell has locked it so customers need to purchase the video chat package they have. Is it possible to unlock this camera some how? I have achieved root on my phone.
I have searched the forums for a possible solution, but I have found nothing.
It's usable out of the box for me - try the mirror app from the market.

That mirror app seems to work. Have you been able to get any of the video chat applications (like Fring) to use it? I just can't seem to figure it out. Trying to find a good application to video chat with my cousins and their iPhones.
Fring works fine for me on JM5
^With the front facing camera? Is JM5 one of the North American ROMS or Europe ones?
Fring is broken on the galaxy s. It uses the camera on the back of the phone rather than the front facing one. There is a big thread on their support forums. If you go on the camera there is a self shot mode that uses it.

Is there no way to use the front camera in an actual video chat capacity... short of paying Bell?
There isn't even a way to pay bell to use it.
This thread is barking up the wrong tree, it is not Bells fault that fring is broken. Complain to fring that is what I did. They say they are working on it, but its two weeks now with no feedback.

that blows my mind samsung would make a phone with a front facing camera with no real capability to use it.
Er, the stock camera app works just fine...
Samsung does not make the video chat software, nor should they. If they did you would likely end up with the crippled bs that is Apple factetime.

If you don't mind using plain SIP VoIP for video chat (your friends will need to use a similar app or hunt around for SIP to whatever (Skype, MSN, etc) gateways, you may want to have a look at Sipdroid by i.p.tel (website, AppBrain link). It should support switching between front and back cameras from the video preview.
Their demo video shows video call working, but last time I tried it on my Galaxy S, the app crashed as soon as I chose send video.
Don't let that put you down, Sipdroid is open source and the outfit that supports it is much smaller and more agile than the big mastodonts like Skype&Co and their staff and community seem pretty keen on making it work well, so if you have problems, just report them on the bug tracker.

Sipdroid routes audio through the back speaker, not the earpiece... which makes it unusable.
This is a known issue (link).
If it affects you, maybe you can add your comment to it so the devs may take notice. If you are a developer or know someone who is, maybe you can even help fix the problem

Dude you need to read these posts better, this has nothing to do with Samsung as the camera works fine in several apps as many people have posted. There is currently a problem with FRING (FRING NOT SAMSUNG/BELL) that defaults the video chat to the back camera, if you check around you will see this is a well documented problem that Fring is working on.
i have used fring on sgs, to make video calls and it works with data plan or wifi. fring to fring users can make calls between each other , skype support has been taken out.
I am on a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant SGH-T959, and the hardware is clearly present.
It appears as though the hardware is there. There are two small sensors, front-facing on the top left hand corner. The one just to the right is oblong and appears to be the ambient light sensor, and the other to the left is circular and looks like a camera lens. So is this another case similar to the 802.11n & FM Tuner being disabled until the release of Froyo?

No those are the light sensor and proximity sensors. The camera is off to the right on the i9000.
Fring works fine for my front camera on JM5 and now JM6. When using the stock Bell FW though it would only use the back one.
@deception: so you can confirm that fring works on front cam with JM5 firmware? are you using a Bell galaxy s?
coz i am currently on JH2 and it only uses the back camera. if so, i'll try flashing to JM5 when i get home...

[Q] Recommend Camera Replacement app?

Hi guys
I've regularly switched between CM and Sense as I try to find a set up I'm happiest with, the thing that keeps pushing me back to Sense is the camera app. I've just flashed the CM7 Nightly and I'm going to stick with it, my question to you is "Do you use a replacement camera app and if so, which one and why?"
Many thanks
Matt
ive used CM to, and switched back to sense ui for the same reason as you did... i stick with sense though... feels better for me
Dont know any good Camera app...
Vignette. It's basically hipstamatic for Android.
Just google it or look at some streams on flickr, you will not be dissappointed.
Camera 360 is awesome, even the free version although I think I might actually buy the paid version soon.
Also try FxCamera, worth it just for the Toy Camera mode. My favourite photos taken with my old Hero were with this. It's not a serious replacement for the stock camera app though, more of fun app like Vignette.
I also have CameraPro but I wouldn't recommend that a it's not much better than stock and used to f/c too much.
I couldn't live with a non-Sense ROM. For all HTC have got wrong they've got so much more right when it comes to the look and feel of the UI. I'm a sucker for the settings widgets too
Dear munkimatt,
I recommend " Lg camera " application. It can both take photos and record videos. Also there are plenty of settings improve the quality. you can download it directly from the Market. hope this helps.
Kind Regards,
i need sense camera app, gallery app, music and mail app to stick with CM
vigniette is the best replacement so far but i've tested it and i can confirm it doesn't produce as good results as the stock camera app
PROTOCHIP where can i find this LG camera?

Would we ever be able to use the front camera as a web cam?

I wonder, will it ever be possible to use the front camera as a webcam on Apps like paltalk, or in tinychat, or any type of video chats? Does anybody know if it's possible or even likely to happen or not? Just a question from me too somebody much smarter than me. By the way, I tried it on various video chat rooms and no go.
Thanks to anyone who answers,
Knotrkr

Well you have a SGT, why not load up the software and give it a try. Then report back what the results were.

Any camera app alternatives?

I have a XT1096. I love this phone. The Nexus experience and Moto Voice is all great, but man is the Camera app UI horrific. I can see what they were going for. I think they wanted some originality to phone camera UI but it ended up only being more inconvenient to use. Especially when I ask a stranger to take a photo for me, it's a nightmare. Are there any ported cameras or something that will make this UI simpler and more generic?

If only for photos, Google's latest camera from the Nexus works, but it crashes if you launch video etc.
Otherwise, Camera MX is a fairly good app.
Tried to download the Moto G4 Camera apk, but couldn't get it to install. Maybe someone can work on that?
For me though, the Moto camera as it is has survived simply thanks to its double twist to launch gesture, if not it would've been long replaced.
HTC Camera from the HTC 10 works just fine. You can find the apk here on xda. The only issue I found is that HDR is very inconsistent, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I ended up switiching back due to the fact that I rely on HDR way too often.
