[Q] Alarm clock sound / volume frustration - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone else find the alarm clock sound and volume controls virtually useless?
For example,
On the stock alarm, if you enable the "Smart alarm" option, you can choose a tone from Morning, Breeze, Mist, etc.
The problem is, regardless of what I choose there, it always plays whatever was chosen in the Sound > Alarm tone option - it seems to ignore the "Smart alarm" option altogether.
The other problem is that the volume control seems completely useless. Even at the lowest volume setting, the alarm tone is still rediculously loud.
I've tried the 3rd party app "Alarm Clock Plus" and it has the same problem with volume being way too high and it does not gradually increase the volume. Obviously it IS capable of doing increasing volume because it worked for me on the Galaxy I7500.
So it seems like a hardware/firmware bug in the Galaxy S (at least with 2.1)
Can anyone explain to me how to use the smart alarm feature or is this bug fixed in 2.2?

I can't help you with the smart alarm. But I can with regards to the volume of the songs for something like alarm clock plus. I had the same issue, setting the volume to it's lowest setting but finding it way to loud still.
I used Audacity to reduce the gain of the song I wanted for my alarm so that it naturally played softer, now it's perfect in another alarm program.

how to turn off the alarm

Hi all,
I had a problem last night where i was testing out the alarm feature. It went off and a small dialogue box popped up and the left button stated 'dismiss', i clicked somewhere other than those areas and then the alarm bell icon went away and the alarm had entered snooze mode - it kept going off every minute or something and there was no way to turn it off.
can anyone shed some light on this if the icon disappears?
also how can i change the alarm tone? going into the sounds and notifications option i get:
''Enable sounds for:
- Events
- Programs:
--Notifications (alarms, reminders)
- Screen taps
- Hardware buttons''
on the second tab called notifications
theres options for ''Event'' allowing to choose an event to assign a sound for it. Theres no Even called alarm or notification but there is one for Reminders. I changed the reminders tone but still that didnt change the alarm tone that went off.
seems the alarm hasnt had much focus during implementation.
thanks,
simba
Change the alarm tone directly on the Clock & Alarms screen. Just tap the little yellow bell thing.
perfect thanks! i didnt know the wee bells were selectable for more features.
anyone else know the solution to the other query?

alarm question

i have the diamond but each time i would like to set an alarm i get a message telling me the alarm will not sound if the phone is set on silent, hence i am
just wondering if there are any alarm clocks for the touch diamond which will ring when set, even if the phone is on silent mode.
ideas anyone?
in silent mode the device can't play any sounds
the program you would need would have to change
the registry to force the device out of silent mode
to be able to make any souds
is this registry edit possible? i basically want it for use as an alarm clock in the mornings but i dont want to leave the phone able to ring if i were to get a call/txt while i sleep.
flight-mode accomplish that too without any 3th party software
This app should do waht you require...
Even the basic quick alarm with this application provides an audible alert when the phone is set to silent.
Check out G-Alarm
With the more complexed alarms with this app, one can set even the max volume of the alarm - so is independent to the WM volume control.
Hope this helps?
You don't need to do all that, just check the "sound alarms even if device is set to silent" box in the clocks/alarms menu. I put mine on silent every night when I go to sleep and the alarm wakes me up every morning, it goes off at the same volume that you last had the system volume set to before you switched it to silent.
cheers for the help people.

Nexus One 2.2 media and alarm volume linked

Hey guys, so I installed Android 2.2 and everything is working fine with one exception. When I go to settings/sound, and start adjusting the sliders for media and alarms it links them. What I mean is, if I put the media all the way up I can then slide the alarm up and down and it will adjust the sound.
Also, when I adjust the phone ringtone I hear a ringtone no problem, but with media and alarm, I hear an alarm clock. I don't believe it was doing this initially and has only recently flared up. Has anyone else been having this problem, or could you check and see if you have the same problem as I do?

[Q] Change Smart Alarm Sound & Volume

Hi,
does anyone have any idea(s) on how to change the Smart Alarm sound to a non-default one, and control it's volume separately from the general alarm volume, and if so, what are they?
I really like the idea of the Smart Alarm, but Samsung's implementation of it is terrible.
Thanks in advance!

[Q] Ringtone and notification volume

Can someone who already has this device comment on the volume of ringtones and notifications?

its the loudest handset iv ever had even vid clips sound amazing and loud
but be warned if used as a alarm clock do a sound test first cos mine just woke the whole street up at 5-45am lol:victory:
That's what I like to hear, thanks!
dont find my ringtones that loud it was a lot louder on my galaxy note 2 but music and youtube is way louder
Yeah it's damn loud and for me it is a real issue as you cannot dissociate Ringtones volume and notifications volume.
You'll either have to lower the volume to the point notifications are barely audible or have everyone around you staring at you because your Led Zep Kashmir Ringtones sounds amazingly loud in your office.
If anyone got an idea to dissociate these 2 volumes please shoot
I didn't plan on using another ROM than the stock one but I'm seriously considering it for this very reason.
stock boot up jingle is very loud, its now gone, cos on rooted arhd 3.6
Loud. Too loud for my liking in most instances.

Try using a volume control app, it seperates the ringtone from notification. I have the notification & ringer on 1 (of 7) which is fine.

Have a rooted Dev Edition One. Not being able to set separate volume settings for Ringer and Notification was pretty frustrating. I installed Power Toggles and can now set separate volumes for Ringer and Notification.
I have always used Tasker to change these volumes depending on where I am and the time of day. However, on the One, even though Tasker shows separate volume settings for Ringer and Notification, it sets them both to whatever is the last action. For instance, if I am at work, I set my ringer volume to 1 and notifications to 5. Depending on which one I put first, both volumes get set to the last one set. Any thoughts on how to set these separately using Tasker?
Thanks.

What app are you using?
CC
Just tried around 15 different apps for controlling the volume. Most of them separate the ring and the notifications, until you go back in and they have linked again.
There does not appear to be anyway of unlinking them

Dang it! You're absolutely right. Power Toggles appears to allow the volumes to be set separately, but, when I go back and look, they are set the same. I set my ringer at 1 and notifications at 5 this morning (I use a really quiet notification sound and even at 5, it is not too loud). Was in a meeting at work.. I get a call and the #&%$(*(*$ ringer goes off SUPER LOUD!!! So terribly embarrassing and uncool.
Hard to believe that HTC would have goofed this one. Haven't seen any other phone to date that does not allow setting the volumes independently. If I can't find a fix quickly, this will force me to start flashing custom ROMs. (I really like Sense 5 and had made up my mind to stay stock (albeit, rooted) for at least a few months).
The only app I've found can actually separate and keep the setting is ICS Enhanced Ringer Control (or Volume), it is a paid app, however, after changing system sound profile from normal > silent or vibrate and the phone still rings... I am so frustrating, it is either adjusting the actual notification file volume for a workaround, or install the ICS control app but you will lose the sound profile feature.....
The other alternative is Sound Profile apps that takes over system profile, it separates notification from ringtone and has its own profile widget you can put on your home page for fast switches. It also comes with scheduler that replaced my other sleep silent apps, so finally I picked Sound Profile for all trouble saver, and it is free.

I agree; these suckers are too loud.
To help to deal with this, I installed HandyPhone, which allows me to set any ringtone to become an ascending ringtone. With luck, I can answer before that ringer becomes really intrusive.
Honestly it hurts my ears someyimes because of how loud it is
