[Q] Turning off HD7 when charging ? - HD7 General

Hello!
I'm a 50% Happy user with the HD7, i've been following and reading all the issues with the phone (don't get me started on the mms config!...), but anyway, just a simple question.
I'm trying to fully charge the HD7, but i don't want it to be powered on while charging, it just keeps awaking from the dead!
How can i circumvent this ?

Far as I know the HD& can only be charged while turned on. At first I thought I had a defect unit, but as I read on the net and in reviews that it only charges while being on.
Hope this helps
Eric

You can't charge any wp7 device while its turned off.

i turn off the phone and i put the phone to the charger. That's it.
I think is it important, i charge it via charger, NOT via laptop.

I have to call BS on this one, at least if you're using an HD7... Unless you mean when you let it die til it's very end, and then when you plug it in it DOES show that, but temporarily until the phone has enough juice to turn on... then it does.

Sorry for my english.
My f00kin problem is that I can't recharge my kaiser anymore!!!
I plug the external charger and the orange led is on for a minute or 2, then it turns off.
Attached to the pc, no light
HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP PLZ!!!
ot: I'm using Dutty's7b and, till yesterday, everything was working good. I've also hard resetted the device, but the problem still here...

Can you use someone else's battery to try. Your battery may have just died, some do from time to time.
mmm
I'm not sure, but I don't think it's a battery death problem.
When I turn off it, I CAN CHARGE IT with pc.
I've noticed that if it's turned on, no charge.
If it's turned off, from 15% is now 36% of charge.
WHY???
So if you leave the phone turned off and connected to the PC for a few hours does the battery recharge to 100% and then the orange light change to green? If you then turn the phone on does the light still go out after a couple of minutes? The current draw will be lower when the battery is 100% charged (as it will be when charging while the phone is off). Some PC's can be flakey with high current draw devices on the USB port.
In the situation you described when the light goes off, will the phone still remain connected via Active Sync (or Vista equivalent)? I'm trying to weed out whether the USB connection has anything to do with it. As for those mains chargers, my one (which came with the PPC) worked about 4 times and the first time I had to recharge the PPC from a totally flat battery it died about 3 seconds into the charge. There was a loud click from the charger and it's light extinguished so I dont have much faith in the mark 2 chargers supplied to UK customers. I'm currently waiting on a different warranty replacement - hopefully like the original type with interchangable 'head' to suit different countries.
now it's not fully recharged, but I've just now turned on the phone and the % is growing.
I've always recharged my phone via pc because I left it connected to my pc at work every day during the working day.
only sometime I recharge it via wall plug at home.
dunno why but from yesterday the wall plug works 2 (or less) minutes and the pc is not anymore able to charge the phone.
now, with all the phone switched off (so, also activesync connection closed), the pc can recharge it.
ARGH
I have also the same problem since yesterday

Did you do anything with the PPC before the problem occurred or was it just out of the blue?
I'd also like to know from leopardone how it goes with regards to answering my questions once the battery is fully charged (if it gets that far).

Take batt. 10m out, i had this problem long time ago.
Do you use a other AC loader.... use only the org. AC loader !!!!
Install batt. status and take a look... you must wait a few min. before the batt is charged.

Hey I have the same problem... I am on the original HTC Rom.
All of a sudden today the batt is not charging on the wall socket or the PC USB cable.
There is no light whatsoever, The active sync is also not connecting.
I have hard resetted even then the same problem, I am guessing it is a hardware & not a software problem coz I didnt install any new prog/app since last time I charged.
Now I have removed the Batt, will reattach and check in about 15 mins lets hope it works...
Shall update soon.

Nope, Removing the battery and waited for 30 mins reconnected the batt still not working.
Nor is my kaiser charging while the phone is switched off.
The problem is notof the USB port coz the USB headphones are working fine..
I got a battery problem as well. Problem started 3 days ago (20/12-07)
My problem is that the battery drains to fast.. disconnected it around 02:00 when I was of to bed, (battery 100%) but when I woke up again around 09:00 the phone was dead. Thats only 7 hours.. and in standby mode!
I'm on the original HTC UK ROM and I have only installd a couple programs like the Kaiser Tweak, Handysafe, Wififofum, Sprite backup, Citrix client, puTTY, PocketRAR, Total Commander, TCPMP, Flash player, PK NewWarningColorBatteryClean3G, HTC GPRSmonitor.
So I'm guessing one of these programs drains the battery even when the phone in on sleep.... the ones I installed since 20/12-07 is PocketRAR, TCPMP, Flash player, PK NewWarningColorBatteryClean3G.
Has anyone had battery problems after installing these..
Any help is appreciated.
it is a hardware problem
when I hold the cable of the charger and push it against the usb port it does charge. when I stop pushing it stops charging.

Stop USB charge

Hello,
i´ve got a Herald with WM6, and i want to know if there is a way that i can stop the USB charge.
My thing is, i don´t want to charge my phone everytime i connect to pc.
Any registry trick?

You could take your USB cord, strip a section of it, and snip the ground

there IS a reghack. don´t remember right now. But you can try to search because there is defitifly one!!
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\usbfndrv
You should see the self explanitory value there; EnableUsbCharging, change it to 0 to disable.
why wouldnt you wanna charge ?
maybe he has a laptop and the charging drains the battery too quickly.
just bear in mind that just because you like something doesn't mean everybody else does too

Charging batteries, which are not fully drained, can cause them to become worn out too soon. Also disconnecting the cable without the batteries to be fully charged can also support the premature ageing of the batteries. Usaly its no problem if it happens once in a while, but its the sum of occurrances that makes the battery to grow old real fast.
By "worn out" and "aged", I mean it loses capacity.
This question may sound stupid, but where can I find the relating registry?
You need Total Commander to edit your registry. But beware that if you edit something thats not right, you can destroy your phone.
Physically the battery will be charged all the same though also indication will not work. It is checked up.
Simple:
Just go to
Start Up
Settings
Click on Power icon
click on Advanced tab
.uncheck When device is turned on, so not charge the battery when connected to the PC.
That's all.
1. Connect to usb not completely charged device
2. Remember current percent of a charge of the accumulator
3. In 15-20 minutes reload the device
4. The percent of a charge becomes above, than was before experiment.
?!?

[Q]Mystery of the bricked phone. Anyone wanna try solving?

So AT&T sent me a Warranty Replacement for the sleeping death problem. Im talking about every 2 or 3 minutes. Sometimes I cant even turn it on even with the USB cable plugged in.
The replacement just arrived today without battery. I put my old battery in and I get the same thing. Phone wouldnt turn on. It might turn on if I plug the USB cable in. And it would turn off again in about 2 or 3 minutes. So I am thinking its the battery thats causing the random shutdown and sleeping death.
Or is it possible I got another phone with the same problem? I cant turn both phones on while plugged in without the battery. Is that normal?
Im going to try to buy a new battery tomorrow to test out the battery theory. HOpefully the Corporate store carries it.
Just from your description it sounds like the battery. Is it possible to get a brand new Captivate with the exact same problem after you inserted the battery from the old phone?
Yeah it really does sound like a battery issue. Have you plugged the phone in a bit with the battery inserted without powering on?
Battery might just be discharged, you should get a battery charge status on-screen after plugging it into the charger

If im lucky, the battery status screen will come up and say 100%. If Im more lucky, I can power the phone on with the cable plugged in but then the phone would turn off by itself few minutes after I unplug the cable.
Can anyone confirm this for me. If see if you can turn the phone on while plugged in but no battery

I wrongly accused the oc kernel to be the culprit of the sleepin death issue. What a ****

Haha well theres always the possibility that you got smacked with two busted handsets... however unlikely that might be now time to scream at AT&T till they give you a non suck battery to confirm the problem.
Hopefully they didn't stick you with a handset without key combinations... make sure you get the replacement battery before you ship back your original handset and verify the problem... the replacement might not have download mode key combos, so test it all out and make sure you dont get screwed
this mystery is pretty much solved. thanks guys

[Q] A few noob questions (re: charging, etc) from a new HTC HD7 owner. Please read...

Hi,
I posted a thread yesterday asking about distortion of words / writing on my HD7 while scrolling and you can find the link to that thread below if you would like...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12165148#post12165148
But I have a couple other questions with regard to my HD7.
I shut my device off to charge it last night (I have only had it for 1 1/2 days) and it said goodbye on the screen and powered off. When I plugged it into the wall to charge, it turned itself back on again and charged itself while powered up.
I tried again to shut it down to charge but again as soon as I plugged it in it turns itself back on. Is this normal? Can I not charge this device while it is powered off?
I am sure I will have other questions in the future so I ask that you please be patient with me and if this question has been answered already somewhere please forward me to the post.
Thank You in advance...

Well I guess that is good to hear and Thank You for responding. It is weird though that you cannot charge this device while it is powered off.
I have never owned a cell phone that you could not charge while it was off and truth be told, I was always under the impression that when the phone is off and charging that it gets a much better charge than when it is charging while it is powered on.
Microsoft believe that charging phone with power on better because that thing avoiding phone hugs and crashing after power on as we remmber the wm 6 after going to sleep mode

Really? I never had any issue with my old Omnia i910 on WM6.1 Pro? Oh well... I guess if this is how Microsoft thinks then who am I to argue? LOL!!!
Is this the same for ALL WP7 phones I wonder?
As far as I know, it's the OS, not the phone. So, same for all phones.
As an aside, your phone will charge lots lots lots faster plugged into the wall adapter rather than the PC.

Absolutely... I definitely know this to be true... lol. I still find it weird that the phone restarts itself though when plugging it in to the wall to charge. Should I even bother turning it off first before I plug it in?
Nope. No benefit from doing it. I typically leave mine charging at night.
Just tap the screen off when you plug it in, as it'll turn on to the lock screen.

Phone wont turn on

Hey everyone, last night I lost my phone and I'm pretty sure it died, but I got it back this morning and tried to charge it/turn it on but it wont power on. The charging icon also isn't showing. There was a green LED that was on for a little while but now its off. Not really sure what to do with it.

From my experience the LED turns up only when there is too little power to turn on in the first place... Either u busted your Charging port or your charger! And what do u mean you lost your phone and got it back this morning? Fishy!
Alright so last night I left it on the turbo charger for about 3 hours and still nothing. Can't do a factory reset either.
Oh also, I'm pretty sure its charging because the phone does get a bit warm when I leave it on the charger.
