[Q] Better Keyboard - G Tablet Themes and Apps

So I just installed better keyboard and I went to enable it and Im getting a message that says "This input method may be able to collect all the text you type, including personal data like passwords and credit card numbers. It comes from the application Better Keyboards. Use this input method?"
Should this be something I should be worried about?

No. That is the standard Android warning when installing any keyboard.

Anyone know if Swype is working on here yet?

Can't get alternate keyboard to enable
After I get an alternate keyboard installed, I can't get the checkbox to enable. I get the warning described above but then the keyboard doesn't enable and doesn't appear as a choice when you do the long press and select input method.

I have the same problem with an IME for pen reader. the main justifyer for me to purchase this tablet was to take notes at work but I can't get teh app to work... I am just waiting for 3.0 and hoping that it will evolve...

I was able to get SlideIt to work by installing it and then copying the apk file from /data/app and pasting it in /system/app. Then make sure to Mount R/W in the system folder and change permissions of the copied apk so that User is read/write and Group, Others is read only. Mount R/O. Now reboot. It should work now.
I am using TnT 2.2. There shouldn't be any need to enable it in the settings either. It will act like a system keyboard and will always be enabled. All you have to do is change input method by long tapping on a text box and selecting the newly installed keyboard.
I have tried this with a couple of other keyboards and it didn't work. Swype just says that it won't work with the screen size of the device.
I read this in another thread somewhere here. I can't take credit for this. Hope this helps.

keyboards
I'm running the stock rom with the TNT enhancement pack. The strange thing is that I can't even find the downloaded apk file for the keyboard. When I go to the data folder in iFileManager, it is blank. What am I doing wrong?

From what I can tell, ES File Explorer can't see stuff in /data unless it is started AFTER the phone is rooted. Maybe the same goes for iFileManager.
So what I do is use z4root to get temporary root, kill ES File Explorer, then start ES File Explorer again. Then it can see /data.
Hope that this helps.

[Q] [REQ] stock android keyboard

Hi!
Looked for it everywhere, but could not find... is there a way to install LatinIME on my galaxy s? i kind of like it best among keyboards, swipe is totally useless if it does not have required language support.

http://adityatalpade.com/xda/voicesearch with keyboard.zip
This will install the 2.1 keyboard with voice to text working (on any text input that uses the default keyboard).
The original keyboard will not be affected - you will simply have 2 Android Keyboards to choose from in Settings > Language and keyboard (plus Swype, if you have it or install it)
You need to be rooted.
Code:
To install the keyboard apk, unpack the file and put the VoiceSearchWithKeyboard.apk on your sdcard.
Mount system r/w and put the VoiceSearchWithKeyboard.apk in the /system/app folder.
chmod it 644
Do the same for LatinIME.apk
Mount system as r/o and reboot.
After rebooting, in Settings > Language and keyboard. If you have Swype installed, it will still work if you select it (but you probably won't want to!).
Try it out and tell me what happens!!
thank You, but link gives me
"Not Found
Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn't here.
Use the search form above to search again"
and is voice input icon removable? it is useless to me.
Try it now.
I don't know how it would work without the voice search.
the application voice search (...) has stopped unexpectedly. FC
any ideas what I did wrong?

Having problems enableing other keyboards besides Ginger keyboard

Hi there,
Any suggestions on how to enable slideit keyboard? Everytime I go into settings and push "keyboard" it goes straight back to home screen.... any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you

Did you copy the .apk into apps and install it? Try uninstalling and reinstalling it afterward, then selecting it from NookTools.
U have to use nookcolor tools
Nook Color via Xda App
I had a similar problem and found out that the keyboard apk file has to be in the system/apps folder but usually gets installed into data/apps.
If that's the problem, you can move it with adb or buy Root Explorer which makes it much easier.
Mobileread forum for the color nook (developer's corner) has a thread entitled
"How to get Gingerbread keyboard?"
I can't post the link directly because I'm new to this forum.
Thanks guys, I'll try that!

I have gotten all the custom keyboards I tried, working perfectly. Presently using SwiftKey. You just need to move the apk file to system/apps, set the permissions similar to other apks in the folder and then install that apk from there. After that you need to reboot, otherwise the keyboard won't show up on Nook Color Tools. After booting, open NC Tools and change the keyboard.

were you able to get the word suggestion to work with swiftkey? I installed and chose it as my keyboard in nookcolor tools, but the word suggestion doesn't work.

[Q] How to add swype keyboard to Precision 3.5

Hi, I've searched, read, looked - and I'm not finding out how to do this. I've run several roms - and am liking the Precision line - but in the latest one, the swype keyboard was removed...and I really like the swype keyboard. Are there directions on how to get this working in my setup once I've flashed to the Precision 3.5 rom? I cannot figure out how to get a swype keyboard added - regardless of the rom, if it's not already there.....
Currently I'm running one of the other roms - just because I cannot figure out how to get this working. Sorry if I've missed something, I appreciate the time and work ya'll do - so trying to make as much effort as possible before asking repeat questions.
Cheers!
In the ROM you are using now get "super user" access (though I bet you already have it). Then download a file manager that will show root files (I use "Root Explorer" but it is a paid app); the only free file manager that I know of that will give R/W access to the root folders is "Android Mate" (just watch out it tries to be a little more than just a file manager and will try to become your home app, so don't let that happen).
Navigate in your current ROM to "/system/app" and find "swype.apk", then copy it to your external sd card so you will still have it when you load your new ROM.
Load the ROM you want and get "super user" access, download the file manager you used above (Paid or Free), go to your external sd card and copy the "swype.apk", navigate to "/system/app" and paste.
You should now be able to select and use your swype keyboard!
You can also use the free app Super Manager but it also tries to be more than a root explorer. Imo root explorer is well worth paying for.
Jeff,
Thanks - did that; so I'll reflash and try that. Do you know, will this approach work for the life wallpapers also. I started searching for that and gave up since that wasn't a rom deal breaker for me. :/
Thanks again!
Trying to use both the free apps failed - i.e. copying and pasting the Swype.apk does nothing i.e. I'm not ending up with this .apk in my system folder or any other folder I try. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, if you can't actually do this, or what. I don't want to buy something to try and change my keyboard....kinda silly TBH. Anyone know what might be going on?
Cheers!

Easiest way to get swype, I'm using precision as well, google swype beta then register and download swype installer, next install swype installer then run it login with user name and password you registered with it will bring up two options select either then download the rest is self explanitory.

/System/App is where?

I switched from tnt-lite to Vegan and I like it - except the keyboard isn't as good. I see that there are presently two other keyboards when I go to the config page but there is no check box to select them. Searching around it seems that the way to make them work is to manually copy the keyboard apk from /data/app to /system/app - at least that is the consensus of the posts I have seen. Well, looking at my sdcard I can see a /data folder with no sub directory app but there are apk files in the data folder that I recognize so perhaps the instructions mean to copy the apk file from the data to the system folder? I'd give that a try but there is no system folder (showing). I poked around with a couple of different file explorers but nada. I thought I would be clever and explore from my PC by plugging in in usb mode but still I find no system folder. I'm guessing it is hidden but I thought the g-tab was rooted by default so shouldn't I be able to see it. So - what I really want is just to change out the keyboard so if you know how post that but just on principle now I'd like to find out if there is a system folder, where it is and how to get into it. Thanks!
/ *** is location relative to your base memory of your device (in this case your tablet).
/ by itself is called root. or your root directory. (think My Computer in windows). Everything on or connected to your device is located at /somethingorother.
/sdcard is typically where your sdcard is. Depending on your rom it might be your internal memory.
/emmc is where your internal memory is (maybe depending on your rom)
/system is where your base operation system files are located.
/sdcard/data is the location you referred to as being a data folder on your sdcard.
/data is where your phone stores data. Where internally installed apps go
if you open your favorite file manager you will see your location usually as /sdcard or home, mnt, sdcard or /mnt/sdcard it depends on your file manager. you need to "go up" a few folders to get to your root folder to find /system.
Hope i didn't make that more confusing then it actually is. Sorry if I did.
And the light clicks on ...
For some reason I was under the impression that everything had to happen down at the sd card level. I did work my way "up" and there was a system folder with apps in it! Another post said I had to make the folder RW but even though I was using terminal emulator the system was having none of that - "no sudo for you!" I went back to trolling the forum and WAY inside I found a post that was unclear to me but I tried it and IT WORKED (this is the original question about getting the keyboards to work). In my Settings/Language&Keyboard I see three keyboards:NI Keyboard, Tap 'n Tap Western Keyboard and Android Keyboard. It would look like a long press would allow you to select one but that is not the case. Having large hands, the android keyboard which seemed to be the default on my Vegan installation, was the only thing I didn't like about Vegan. The Tap n' Tap one that I had been using on TNT Lite fit me much better. So blah blah blah.... To select another keyboard you open up something that pops up a keyboard - I used Quick Office but any keyboard call seems to work. Long Press in the text area and up comes a menu for Input Method and on it were my three keyboards. The android was selected so I chose the tap n' tap instead. Apparently that switched the default and now the tap 'n tap is my new default. Problem solved. As for accessing the folders off of root - well that is a project for another day.
Well glad you got it working. If your tab is rooted then i recomend root explorer as good file manager. You can quickly change folders from r/o to r/w in one click as you explore it.

Vegan support my other keyboard without issue (in fact it's the only rom I found) maybe you didn't wipe before flashing ?
Also root of the device is NOT accessible by usb unless you mean ADB...

Wiimote Support!

So I somewhat got Wiiremote support on the Vivid. I extracted the Bluetooth.apk from a Cyanogenmod rom.
1.) you need to have a odexed rom (I used rumraider b3)
2.) install the attached file by putting it in /System/app (i put it on my sd card and used root explorer)
3.) install Bluez IME and the HID addon (google it )
4.) follow the IME's instuctions and select Wiimote (HID) for the device.
known problems:
lights continue to blink, it's connected and won't turn off but the lights blink instead of show the 1
use at your own risk, this worked for me, no one else has tested it. Let me know how it works for you
Sry if this is off topic ,will this work for ps3axis controller

i'm not sure you can try? i don't see why it wouldn't.
The HTC Sense bluetooth apk is the "roadblock" for pairing the remotes. swapping it out should solve problems for all the pairing problems.
You know, I never would have thought of trying this on my own. I've got a bluetooth device that won't sync properly with anything stock on the vivid but I had GB ROM that I think used the telstra bluetooth stack that worked perfectly. Since going to ICS it had stopped working again but after reading this post I decided to pull the Bluetooth.apk off that old ROM and it works perfectly again.
Thanks for the tip.
Is this possible on the new stock ATT ICS rom? How can I backup or get the original installer for bluetooth on this rom? Thank you.

You can use a file browsing app like Root Explorer.
The Bluetooth.apk will be in system/apps. Mount system to R/W
move the original file to your sdcard somewhere.
And take the one posted in op's post up above.
And paste and install it in system/apps.
You need root permissions to do this though. Good luck.

It looked like I was able to just open the apk file posted and install it. Do you think this is possible? I didn't want to screw up my phone if I didn't have the original to replace it. Thanks.

it has to be put in the system apps folder because that's where the phone looks for the bluetooth support. also it needs some elevated permissions and isn't made to comply with superuser.
you can make a backup just in case
Had it sync fine the first time I tried it, and then my dad called and my screen off profile was too low so my phone restarted lol. Now I can't get it to sync again! When I Activate Bluetooth with Bluez IME selected I get a "pairing request," and if I choose it from the notification menu it says to enter a PIN on the phone and device (which I can't because you can't enter a PIN on the wiimote, plus the IME isn't touch input anymore).
My steps:
Activate Bluetooth
Scan for devices - Nintendo RVL-CNT-01
Select Device Driver - Wiimote (HID)
Select IME - Bluez IME
Anddd the wiimote just times out. Any insight?
try uninstalling the apk that you installed via installer (not dropping in system/app) if you haven't already
then maybe try reinstalling bluez IME?
i wish i could be more help!
Keep getting a "Disconnected: Software Interference" Are there limitations on a per-app basis as far as functionality is concerned?
