Email Button?? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I there a way to remove or change email button on the bottom row of the Captivate. My phone is stock at the moment. If this question has been answered can you point me to the link? I did a search but could not find the answer. Will I need to root my phone?
I only use Gmail and am using the Gmail app that came with the phone.

Haven't been stock in a long time so giving this to you from memory. Go to your app drawer and hit your menu key (bottom row far left) and you should have an option to edit. In edit mode you can make changes to what is shown on your dock by dragging and dropping icons.
Edit: no root needed

What is the "app drawer"? The only option I see is to move home screens around if I hit edit from the home screen. I want to change the email button on the bottom of the phone.
Thanks!

The application page.
Sent from a phone somewhere in the universe

The only option I have on the app page is, "View Type". Is there a way to change to email button to the Gmail app button?

hit the icon on the far left which should be labeled applications if I remember correctly. Square with lines through it or something like that and when you press it all the applications installed on your phone will come up.

Thanks! That worked!

Now I remember. When you get the "view type" option hit "customizable grid" then hit your menu key and you will see the option to edit.

text message TAB button

Hi, on my 8525 I was able to type in an email address or a phone number for a txt message and press tab to get to the body to begin typing my message. Now i must touch my screen in the boddy to get my cursor there. Anyone know a tweak for this?
Also, when i open my txt messages or emails it opens in the body one level down... so that the first line i see to read is the 3rd line of the body. every time i get a txt message (SMS) or email i must press page up.
Any help is appreciated !
are you using any tweaks currently?
Can't you just press the down arrow to swap from the addressee input to the body of the message? Oh, and about the message opening scrolled down, try disabling the PIE d-pad navigation through kaisertweak. I know that fixes a similar issue where messages open at the bottom.
I am seeing the same thing and no, the down button just scrolls. The only tweaks i am using are from the "KaiserTweak" app.

[Q] Facebook settings

Hi - I might be being completely daft here...I got an HTC One today.
I can't seem to access the Facebook app settings to turn off notifications of new posts. I would expect to see the three little dots somewhere for the app settings, but all I have are actual Facebook settings. Nothing for the phone itself...am I missing something obvious?

Doing that just opens Google search?
EDIT : Got it. Changed the setting for the home button to be menu, not Google now. Thanks
OR, swipe right from the left edge to get the menu and then go down to the bottom - they're under 'App Settings'

Needs Stock Messenger apk for 4.1.2

I let my kids pay with my HTC One and now I do not have the stock sms/mms app. I know I can use handcent or even Go SMS pro but I like the stock app. Can anyone give me the .apk file to reinstall it back on my phone.

I'm sure that your stock messaging app is still there (unless you're rooted and they had access to a file manager). First, try going to: Settings>Apps and then all (access it by swiping your hand to the left twice, therefore moving the view to the right twice) and look for Messages. Tap it; make sure that the "Disable" but at the top is deactivated there.
Then, go to all apps (accessed by pressing the home button and making pressing the button in the middle at the bottom with 9 squares inside) and look for Messages. Then you can put it back in your app dock at the bottom, or drag it to the top where it says "Shortcut" and place it on your homescreen.

Question Contact shortcut to Home screen

Is there a reason I can not add a contact shortcut to my home screen. Not the app , the individual contact. The menu (3 dots) on the individual contacts does not have a option to pin to home screen.

How are you going about it exactly? How exactly are you getting to these "3 dots"? You (or I) might be miscommunicating something...
I have 2 or 3 ways of making this work...I don't see how it's not for you. All of these should be available/there -- if not, there might be something else wrong and/or missing in your system.
My "3 dots" has the "Add to home screen" in it; it doesn't say "pin", but close enough. Or you can go about it as adding it like a widget. I even have direct dial as I don't want to just go to the contact page...
