silly ics question - Motorola Atrix HD

How do I get back the programs that I told the system to remove from the list of recently used programs. The ones that pop up using the right moat button on the bottom of the screen.

LoL just open the app again.
The button you're hitting is the "recent apps"

Email Button??

I there a way to remove or change email button on the bottom row of the Captivate. My phone is stock at the moment. If this question has been answered can you point me to the link? I did a search but could not find the answer. Will I need to root my phone?
I only use Gmail and am using the Gmail app that came with the phone.

Haven't been stock in a long time so giving this to you from memory. Go to your app drawer and hit your menu key (bottom row far left) and you should have an option to edit. In edit mode you can make changes to what is shown on your dock by dragging and dropping icons.
Edit: no root needed
What is the "app drawer"? The only option I see is to move home screens around if I hit edit from the home screen. I want to change the email button on the bottom of the phone.
Thanks!

The application page.

The only option I have on the app page is, "View Type". Is there a way to change to email button to the Gmail app button?

hit the icon on the far left which should be labeled applications if I remember correctly. Square with lines through it or something like that and when you press it all the applications installed on your phone will come up.
Thanks! That worked!

Now I remember. When you get the "view type" option hit "customizable grid" then hit your menu key and you will see the option to edit.

multiple apps, minimized?

I seem to be only able to have 1 app open at a time?
I have to backbutton the app, then go to main screen to start another app..
How do i have 3-4 apps running, with the minimized apps that i can grab up top like my phone...
thanks
I'm not exactly sure what you are requesting here, but applications can run in the background. While you may need to go the Home screen to get back into an application you were previously in, it can still be running from before.
You mention of minimizing applications, which doesn't happen with the android system in terms of windows (min/max), but some applications open can be accessed throught he notification bar, if they have a ongoing notification.
Maybe you're talking of pressing and holding the N button to bring up the 8 most recent applications to easily switch between them?
If that is the case, there is also a nice application called Swipepad that may help you as well.
My android phone, with the slide down window at top is what i was referring to, where you can "pull" down the top of window,, and see your running apps...
thanks

What phone is that? It must be a customization of some sort since Android doesn't normally work that way. Like biohazrd51 said, just hold down the physical "n" button for short second and a "running" app list will pop up no matter what program you're in and even if the status bar you're talking about is hidden

Back button = Exit. Just push the N button to go Home.. And as said, sounds like your phone is some tweak to Android, until Honeycomb there was no method provided by the OS itself to show "running apps" besides in the Settings->Applications view.
Sounds like something from HTC Sense. What phone/ROM you have?

Just long press the N button you should get recent apps

[Q] long press doesnt really kill app

on cm9 or the latest cm10, a long press on the back button says app killed yet it still seems like the app is only minimized..
is there some other setting ive been missing?
no biggie, but would be really nice... plus i could apply the same thing to my wifes N7
thanx

there are 3 buttons on bottom left :: back, home, and running apps.
long press just does about the same as pushing home ..
all long pressed apps still show as running in that button.
even using back button over and over doesnt close any app or browser..
no matter what , i have to manually close apps

ok i'm familiar with the buttons on the notification/status bar, however the "running apps" button is not running apps button, it's "recently used apps" button. it doesnt mean that the app is still running.
well, I should probably be embarrassed.. so I am a little..
thanx for that.. Every day I understand android a little more..
if I knew of a way to automatically clear that column, I would..
thanx

you can clear the recently used apps by swiping them left or right with your finger.

I know on CM10 (for Atrix) there's a little button on top right that clears all recent apps. I didn't see it on CM9. Swiping is the only way it seems. Change it to webOS style and it's more fun!
Cheers

The phones no longer have a menu button, developers will need to update their apps to incorporate a menu into the UI. For apps that haven't done so, you may see a black bar across the bottom of the screen that will open the menu.
However with many of the replacement roms/kernels, alternative methods have been provided. In the case of the rom you linked, try tapping just above the HTC logo on the bottom of the screen. You want to be aligned horizontally with the logo, and just barely tapping on the screen itself.

Menu button (do you miss it)

Just found out a little tip which many of you might already know. If you are missing the menu button, especially for outdated apps like the xda app, you can still access it. The note 4 replaced the menu button with recent apps button, but if you long press the recent apps button you will get to the menu function.
That is all. Have a good day.

Thanks for that. I was using a friends S5 last night and that was driving me mad. My note 4 is at home waiting for me to open the package
If they completely removed it, then yes but holding task switcher for a couple of more seconds then it doesn't bother me. What bothers me is that I have to hold the back button every time to access Multi window bar as app switcher only has opened apps.

You are welcome. It would have been a nightmare had it gone forever. Not all applications have that on screen menu button.
Brilliant, I missed that button... nice to know it's still there
Need a way to reverse the functionality from long and short press
Nope don't miss it. I don't even use the long press.

Its not about missing it just because you prefer to press the physical button. There are many apps which don't have the soft menu button. For example, go to Google Now and try to change the settings, but don't long press. Good luck with that.

I just did. Took less than 2 seconds. Then again, 6 of my past 7 phones all had on screen nav buttons, which I prefer

There is. There is no way Google didn't implement soft menu button when they themselves are pushing on screen nav bar and soft menu buttons. Open Google now and it's bottom right corner. Might need to scroll all the way down. That might be the only annoying thing about it but it's there and very easy to access.

Oh I see, thanks. I assumed it would be on the top right corner. However, there does remain other apps that don't have it at all. For example the XDA app.

I agree with what your saying. But you've picked 2 really bad examples. You can get to menu without menu button in xda!
I am used to Android tablets which don't have the menu button anyway, so I don't miss it on the phone.
