Micro SD Card Hunt - Nook Color Accessories

Has anyone been able to find any good deals on a Micro SD Card for our Nooks? I am looking for a 16 or 32 gb. With a high class number 6 would be fine.

I don't know about good deal, but I went with this Kingston 16GB one (Class 10). It looks like it is priced about 45% of list price if that helps.

I use these sites and have pretty good luck. Should be able to get a 16GB CL10 for under $50. Hope it helps.
Meritline Sometimes slow shipping.
Supermediastore
Buy.com Sometimes you need to dig through the menus to find good deals.

just wondering
do you really need a high class sd micro what are the benifits as far as speed for movies music ?
trying to make a choice speed or size i mean is the speed only for running apps from sd card as i will more than likely just use it for movies and music thanks

This is probably the best price you'll find for a Class 6 without waiting around for a sale:
A-DATA 16GB Class 6
I have this one and have been very pleased with transfer speeds. My dad has the one above, and the speed are pretty comparable. The Class 10 writes a little faster (can get Win7 to report above 10 MB/s) but A-DATA is a better known brand than Wintec. By which I mean, Wintec is way cheaper than competitors:
Wintec 16GB Class 10
You're not going to be able to get a fast 32GB microSD without shelling out close to 100 bucks.

At local Target for $17.99, Lexar 8GB Class 4. Perfect for books.

I got a 16GB Class 4, Patriot brand MicroSD card for $27 off NewEgg.com. No Tax or Shipping. Arrived in my mailbox 3 days later. Worked fine out of the box without issue and seems to transfer about 3-4 Mbps when writing data to it. Class 6 or higher should be unnecessary unless you're recording live video to it or simply impatient I'd think.

I went for Class 10 as I plan to put apps on it to save space on the internal storage. I did that a lot with my old Palm.
Sent from the XDA app on my NC (1.0.1 w/A-n 2.12.25)

I just bought any old 16gb. Class 2. It's good enough for what I use it for. Video plays back fine on it. And I don't really see the point of apps2sd on this. I mean you have almost 1gb of space for apps.

no you only get roughly 400 to 500 megs before you can't install anything else on it. I have the same problem with my dInc.

Why is that? Doesn't it have ~5GB of user space?

not for apps. Mine shows a little less than 1gb available for apps. I've installed a ton of (smallish) games and I'm down to only 150mb or so free.

If you use a different home screen than the standard B&N one I use the mini info widget. Is free and takes up a 2x1 spot. Tells battery life, space left, and SD space left.

The only advangage of getting a high speed sd I see would be if one wanted to run ubuntu or the dev froyo. Nice speed boost.
Sent from my NookColor

Weird. On my HTC Desire I have craploads of apps installed. I haven't gone under 600mb out of 1gb free.. Dunno how you can fill it up considering apps are so small.

FWIW, I now use a Wintec 16GB Class 10 in my MT4G and it has lived up to expectations. I tested it to write at better than 10 MB/s with CrystalDiskMark
The Nook inherited its SanDisk 8GB class 4... which is a solid card.
I'd buy the Wintec again in a heartbeat though... Its super affordable on Newegg.
BTW... USE DROPBOX!!!! if you don't have it... click my link and get an extra 250MB with your free 2GB account. Its soooo handy to have my extra files on the cloud. Especially my Titanium backups.

This will be coming soon if you want to wait. It's one of the first high class (6+) 32GB cards.
Lexar High Speed MicroSDHC 32 GB Class 10 Flash Memory Card with Reader

Thanks works great. I have about 650mb free. Plenty for me... also have an 8gb sd

up to 16GB all I have is 4GB and its more then enough. But a friend wants to send me one and asked me what is would prefer. I would go for 16GB but I don't know if I can use it. I have a AT&T Tilt.
Thank You.
Hi and welcome around,
searching a little bit around may have answered your question .
The Kaiser definitely supports µSDHC up to 16 GB. As soon as 32 GB comes up, it will also support it.
Got a 16Gb in mine. Runs great. Just got to find stuff to fill it now!
What 16 GB are you using?

I am also using a 16GB sandisk. It works great and have no problems. The only thing I will say, as with any flash memory, is that mine is just below 15GB. I personally think that the labeled amount should be the minimum amount available. Sorry for that... go for the 16GB!
Where are you guys buying these 16GB cards? I can't even find them on any of the major retailers' sites. I'm curious to see how much they run. 16Gb used to be a pipe dream to me. heck, the 4 gig I'm currently using used to be such a pipe dream. I remember when I paid $350 for a 1 gig SD card...
16 gigs would be lovely though. I could load up on music.

What SPEED is the Tilt able to handle for the MicroSDHC cards? There are Class 2, 4, and 6 - Class 6 being the fastest. However, if the Tilt is only able to transfer up to or slightly below the speed of a Class 4 card, then buying a Class 6 rather than a Class 4 would be a total waste of money for the higher speed -

I was going to post something about the ADATA 8GB card I actually have, because I thought it was a great buy at 18.99, but when I checked their web site today, it turns out since I bought mine only about 2 weeks ago, they posted the above Class 6 speed card with 16GB!
I would make a fuss and return my old one, the only thing is, I don't even have any way of filling up the 8GB card - so I may as well wait until the 32Gb cards come out - also anothjer reason is my Tilt is getting to bee a little long in the tooth with scratches, etc. - so by the time the 32GB cards come down in price there may be other models coming onto the market I want to buy instead of the current phone I have now...

There will no doubt be better phones on the market in the near future (HTC's leaked road map has some nice looking phones due out this year, and that Nvidia Tegra system looks awesome). But, the beauty of the situation here is, pretty much any phone worth buying in the future should have a micro SD slot. It kind of sucked buying SD cards with Mini SD on the horizon, and then buying Mini SD cards with Micro SD on the horizon. But Micro SD seems to have settled in as the standard, so your 16 gig card will probably work on your next device.
According to A-Data's website, they don't make a 16gb microsd card
The link above takes you to a 16gb flash card, but it's not a microsd card. The cheapest ones I've seen are 50+ on ebay, probably fakes, but I have an 8gb, probably fake that I go on ebay, and it works perfectly.
I have a 16 gb micro sd card that I bought on ebay, and it works great. I've had no problems whatsoever with it, and I've really loaded it up! I paid $52.00 for it (shipping included).
It Supports up to 32gb
Correction 16GB MicrSDHC not yet available?
My first post tothis thread was wrong, that was a 16GB sd card, not a micro sdhc card. All I can find for highest capacity (class 6) is an 8GB card which I am now using (and itis fast):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211341
And it's only $15.49!
It appears that the class 4 and class 6 make little difference in speed tests, maybe the tilt read/write throughput gets maxed out at the class 4 speed??? Any thoughts anyone?

Clearing up space on internal storage, aside from uninstalling apps.

I currently have 20MB left on my internal storage. Besides using apps2sd (not going to do that on a class 2 16GB card, everything will probably run slow) and uninstalling apps, is there anyway to gain more?
Thanks in advanced.
Probably not. The N1 has a SET 512 RAM/ROM. Unless you do a2sd or uninstalling apps then theres no way.

Something has been bothering me for a while now though about a 32 GB class 6. I dont know if we will see one (at least at a "reasonable" price ANY time soon). Think about it. 32 GB is the absolute max the microsd can handle. Device manufacturers are looking into new storage options which should be implemented next year. I just don't know how big of a demand or even incentive there is to release an upgrade to a dying storage medium.
I'm really just looking for more storage space on my phone so that I can put all of my mp3's and vids on there without filling up my card. Class 6 would be nice. Honestly I've never even seen a class 6 micro sd card.

It makes a huge difference when you're transferring files to and from your PC if you have the class 6, much faster file transfer.
Yeah thats why I said I THINK! honestly I been with my 16GB class 2 for a really long time now and did some research on the technology of the 32GB micro SD card, I read somewhere that its not possible for the moment (or something like that when I read it) how ever IF THERE IS A 32GB class 6 or EVEN a class 4 I will Definitely BUY IT!
Samsung 32GB Micro SD
If I am not mistaken, I saw a Samsung 32 GB class 6 online for about $600.00. And I too have read that 32GB is the upper limit for microSD.
I have been using a SanDisk 32GB card for about 1 month now. It says "Class 4" but the transfer rate using WMDC seems a bit slower than it should be (when moving large files). I have since moved files using standard MicroSD reader and have no problem. The [email protected] can handle 32GB. Card is still a bit pricey (you can get 2 x 16 for a lot less).
I have heard RiDATA Lightning Series 16GB is freakin fast it is class 6 for 50 bucks looks like a really good deal.
i just bought one from ebay for $34.99 the seller has 100% feedback and people that bought them says they are good. so ill see if the knockoff works lol. its covered on the ebay buyer protection

Sorry Bud, but that's SD-XC, not HC.
It's new tech, doesn't count. :3
First, 2TB is the limit for Micro SDHX I belive, and I don't think any PDAs or phones are set up to use them yet, next generation.
I recently got a Class 2 Sandisk SDHC 32gb at Verizon for $100. It was supposed to be $150 if you didn't have one of their phones (Droid X I belive) but they didn't ask any questions and gave it to me for the cheaper price. Works fine, plenty fast for video etc.
One note, I did try to buy a cheap '32gb SDHC' off thEbay and what I got looked just like the one I got from Verizon but was marked with Class 4. It would format with 32gb but when I tried to load data onto it after about 8-16gb or so it started getting errors. I figure it was one that was tinkered with internally to make it look like 32gb but actually was just a 8gb or 16gb in reality. I got suckered for $25 so beware.
Marc
I ended up picking up a 16gb class 4 Kingston one for 40 bucks that actually works really well and my phone doesn't lag anymore accessing files on my SD card like Music...

Which type of memory chip?

Hello. I bought this phone last week and I absolutely love it. I've been searching the forums and can't wait to upgrade Android and install apps. This is my first android phone and I like how it can be customized. Before I do anything, I want to purchase a memory chip for the phone. I want to install and run apps from the chip but unsure of which to get. What size, brand, and class do you recommend? I have a 8gb class 2 from my old phone. Is that good enough? I'm thinking about getting either a 16-32 gb. Thanks.
I have a 8GB Sandisk Class2 for ~12€ from eBay. Works perfectly, even with Apps2SD.
I think a memory card class 4 or higher is reasonable!

I'm using a 16 GB Class 6 (14 GB free memory and 700 MB for Link2SD).
I bought a Class 6 because i heard that there might be some problems with Link2SD/App2SD and Classes less than 6...
I haven't any problems with it -> Ebay 40 €
If you are going to install a custom ROM then I would be careful about using a 32Gb card as I have heard of people having problems with them. As vqt907 has said, I would go for at least a class 4 card.
I have a Kingston 8GB Class 2.
Works very fast, also with app2sd.

Ps get sd speed increase from market it's a must.....d
MY ANDROIDSKY
I was considering upgrading my SD card from a class 4 to a class 10, for the speed improvement. So, I first tested my card to see what it's current speed was.
My card is an LD ( class4 8GB, bought off the street in China:
Write: 11.7 MB/s
Read: 18.0 MB/s
If my understanding of speed class correctly, this is class10 speed, not class4.
So I tested my Chinese "Kingston" - mostly likely a "ghost shift" chip, also class4 8GB:
Write 7.1 MB/s
Read 14.7 MB/s
This is class6 speed, not class4.
So, if you buy counterfeit chips in China (or online from China), you can get a class10 chip for very cheap, I paid $13 for my 8GB card. Just test the speed before you buy.
So check the speed of your card before you buy a new one.

A proper branded Memory card like Sand disk, Transcend, Kingston and so on.
Never get fakes or non-branded ones as a 99% chance of pre broken risk is at your slide (personal experience)
A class 4 or higher would be reasonable.
I've been planning on buying a new sd card since the default 2gb is waaaay to small and I've got a few questions.
My current write/read speeds are 7.0Mb/s~ and 12.6Mb/s - which class is that?
How big is the actual practical difference between let's say, a class 6 and a class 10 card?
look like class 6, class number is write speed in MB/s. btw, there is no reason to buy class 10 duo very slow pc>phone>pc transfer rate. I can get more then 2-3MB/s (cable, wireless)

Maximum storage card capacity

Hi,
I want to buy a micro SD : I have seen that the maximum storage for micro sd was of 16 GB.
Someone has already tested a 32 GB storage card?
If yes, Does it work correctly?
Thanks for your answer.
it's works i don't now how becouse i just test my friends card.
Sorry for my English
Maybe it's was on android 1.6 (max 16), but 2.1 should be supported with 32GB
well, i got my X8 only a week ago, it's my first smartphone.
seriously, what do you guys want to store with 32GB card?
i can't imagine what to store in such space, i figure one could make a portable toilet out of it and still got some more space.
Movies (avi, wmv, etc). HD photos from professional photocameras, hi fi music like wav. Download a lot of stuff with torrent client and else. 32 GB really need for me.

I couldn't tell you, because I've bought an 16GB card (class10).

I think that 32GB is more money then the Phone
You are able to mount 32GB card I've just checked it out but the results are horrible - 500 MB of freshly copied music on the card, and now it is showed as "damaged" on the notification bar. I wouldn't recommend it to you.

I think the X8 will also work extrem slow with a sd card of 16 or 32gb
And with 32Gb class10? The read/write speed is biggest?
I believe that is not a question of card's speed, but more of device's ability to comprehend such a huge space. Just like with enormous hard drives in older computers.
ok.. maybe this out of topic..
what brand of SD card with class 6 or 10??
n where to buy??
im just unable to find it in my country.
in my opinion, 32gb can be handle with very well if this SD card are good.
i mean good SDHC
i found it in my country, designed for camcorder and etc..
but price also different
i just want 8gb with class 10..
currently i have 8gb, no class
my quadrant almost same with droid x, so i think if i have good SD card i can overlap droid x.
where to buy???
32 gb for a phone is a lot of capacity

there's a lot of good brand to choose actually, personally i'm using transcend.
what city are you in? in Bandung, you can try BEC. i bought mine from kaskus though, it has almost everything we look for
class.. hmm IMO it's unnecessary to use such a high class card. class 6 (6MB/s) is sufficient enough, because android apps are usually not really big, only 10-12 MB at most so no need for such a large data transfer rate.
Has anyone had good success with the 32Gb card? I dont want to buy one if it's just gonna not work properly.
thanks
Won't work
Chances are, it wouldn't work.
The Xperia X8 currently only supports up to 16GB of memory. If you go higher than that you would experience problems. You might be able to make it work for a few minutes then it might not be able to read the mem card.
Hopefully, in future updates we could use 32GB cards.
I've searched around, no walk-arounds on this yet. If I were you, I'd stick with 16GB. That's a lot of storage!
