[Q] Change UI sounds? Unlock/lock - HTC Aria Themes and Apps

Anyone know how to change the ui sounds on the aria? running CM7 Nightly build 8
I found a video on youtube of some dude doing it on his droid using RootExplorer and copying the *.ogg file of choice to the system/media/audio/ui, * being renamed to what you want the sound to be, for me it was Lock.ogg. I get an error saying that there isnt enough memory to do this and my internal phone memory has about 80 mb free. Dont know what to do...Anyone else?????
Thanks.
Edit: this is the file I want to use as my lock sound to go with the CM7 screenlock animation:
http://www.wavsource.com/snds_2011-01-09_1004796414058853/sfx/radio_tuner_y.wav
Note: I have converted it to a .ogg file already but couldnt post it on here because it is an invalid type.

i would say open up the update.zip file go to system/media/UI and replace the .ogg files and flash the zip as you would any other

You can't change files under /system while the phone is booted. You have to either adb push the file while in recovery or do as what was stated above.

thanks, I'll try and see if that works.
Edit: I tried to repack the Rom into a zip and guess I did something wrong. I'm pretty sure I dont know what I'm doing. If anyone can spell it out in the simplest terms on how to put the .ogg file into the rom zip, please do so. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

sound in boot animations?

ok so i read on XDA that you can get sound on your boot animations. i have put together a droid x boot animation and with your help i got it to "install". now, i was told to edit the "desc" text document to read:
"320 480 22"
p 1 0 android
p 1 0 part0
p 0 0 part1
so i did that. then they said to name the mp3 file "Anroid_Audio.mp3" so i did. then they said to put the file into the "bootanimation.zip" where the desc txt document and the part0 and part 1 files are. then they said to copy that and go into data, then local, then paste it. so i did. then they said to reboot the phone and it would work. so i rebooted the phone. and all that happened was a blank screen for a little while and then it went to the homescreen.
anyone have any idea on how to get this to work?
anyone? i really would like to have sound..
Lol. I would like but don't know how to make it work.
seems like no one knows
Use WinRAR to compress your bootanimation.zip, and set the compression to "Store."

tried that but then when i opened up Root Explorer on my phone i pasted it into data/local and it said it pasted but it still showed the old bootanimation. tried same with system/media. no luck :/
Hmm idk about installing it that way. Using an update.zip or pushing from ADB might be more effective.
You spelled "Android" wrong in the file name of the mp3. Maybe that's the problem.
I've never added sound to my boots, but I do have a custom boot picture and custom animation. It seems to me that the title in your txt file should refer to the mp3 by the exact file name.
Let me know if you get this working. I'd love to change mine.

why don't you browse through the original rom seeking for bootanimation.zip ?
btw by my own experience changing the original bootanimation.zip through a recovery script (aka update.zip) simply doesn't work so if its your case just do it manually with root explorer.
Hope it helps

I've changed the boot anim a number of times using a zip through recovery. However in these instances I was not the one that compiled the zip so I'm unsure about the exact process.
I belive your boot anim has to be a anim GIF along with a XML file.

Have you tried putting the android_audio.mp3 file into /system/customize/resource/ and not inside the .zip?
That works for me.

On my Android 2.2 (froyo) device, the path to the bootanimation and sound file is:
/system/media/bootanimation.zip
/system/media/android_audio.mp3
Both are at the same folder level. Also, each 'frame' of the animation is a separate .png file in two directories. One directory has the opening part of the animation, the second directory contains just the looping part.

i have a cliq with a 2.1 rom on it. inside the bootanimation.zip is a part0 and part1 folder. part0 contains the png's for the opening part of the bootanimation and part1 has the png's for the looping part. now, do i add a line into the txt file saying "android_audio.mp3" ? and then put the android_audio.mp3 into /system/media/ ?

In my bootanimation.zip, my 'part0' folder is named 'android' (the opening part of the animation). There is no entry in the 'desc.txt' file for the audio file, it just sits in the media folder along side the .zip file, not inside it.
I just had an idea that the name of the audio file needs to match the name of the folder that has the first part of the animation. For example, my folder is named android and the audio file is 'android_audio.mp3'. If you're still having problems getting the audio to play, try naming the audio file 'part0_audio.mp3' and see if that works for you.

im not even gonna bother messing with it now. i mean the hd2 is a windows mobile phone yet it can run an android 2.2 rom. im jealous of my dad... and im sitting here with a cliq that still has android 1.5 and yet again moto has delayed the update. im ready to give up on the cliq. its got nothing out there. i mean, ive got it rooted and have a 2.1 rom on it but i just cant handle not having any development for it. but the thing is i just got my cliq from tmobile around april so im not sure if i qualify for an upgrade yet. should i maybe complain to tmoblile about moto being horrible with there updates and im not satisfied with the phone to try and get them to give me a new phone for free?
Im fairly certain you leave the sound file OUT of the bootanimation.zip. Just place it in there, and make sure the desc has the part0 sound thingy...
Didn't the older Android versions have sound in the boot animations?....Just for a brief moment. You could probably download a 1.5 rom, extract the boot animation from it, change the mp3 (and maybe something in the text file) and put it in data/local or system/media (or both) of your current rom.

No idea why at all, unless for some reason the files didn't copy over... have you tried flashing again? The script doesn't do anything except remove the old sound files and add the new ones.
Updated this with new FroYo sounds (some Samsung ui sounds). The .zip is not yet CWM3 compatible, that will come soon. If you have changed the TW_Battery_caution.ogg to TW_Battery_caution.ogg.bak or removed it, etc., then you just need to remove that file. This zip includes a TW_Battery_caution.ogg.bak already, as it got included when I pulled the sounds from my phone.
I took the liberty of updating this package.
Changes:
CWM Script now properly erases all sound files in /system/media/audio prior to copying.
Deleted Ding.ogg and Noisy_One.ogg from Ringtones as they are identical to Noises1.ogg.
Edited title tag of Noises1.ogg from Noisey One to Noisy One.

Dialpad and clicking sounds still work here. Make sure your system volume is not set to 0.
This would be awesome if it was made Edify Scrpitagible.. yes.. scriptigible. I just dropped it via root explorer into the /system/ folder
I'm a newbie to flashing with the Epic.... already bricked my wife's phone once. =)
I upgraded to EH17 using Odin and apparently that messed up all her ringtones and notification sounds. I wanted to know if there was a way I could flash this file using CWM 3.1.0.1. I get an error msg saying that amend scripting is not supported.

Take the files out with 7 zip and open a zip file (from a theme!! don't use the srf zip or any other "rom" zips they wipe data) you know works on cwm3. Make a backup and delete all the folders inside besides META-INF then take your old zip and copy the files over to the new zip, of course without the META-INF. Just to clarify you want the new zips META-INF folder only!
Cd's or tapes?
Noob here ....I' am unable to find a zip file which is not a rom file...i wanted to follow the above mentioned procedure of modifying the zip file for using it on CWM3x. Can you tell me which is teh appropriate zip file which i can use for modification so that i can restore the default ringtones of EPIC 4G.
I flashed the legendary rom and saw that many ringtones have been taken off...i want to have stock ringtones back on my system
Grab a flashable theme zip and use that.....
Just make sure inside that zip once you delete out the "theme" contents you leave the META-INF file/folder...
Then make a folder of you own in called
/system
Then inside /system make one called
/media
then inside /system/media/ make one called
/audio
Then place the appropriate folders containing either
/alarms
/notifications
/ringtones
/ui
inside that /audio directory....
Close it up and flash it...
If that is too much for you to follow... Just use this zip I'm providing below..
Blank Flashable
Just open it with WinRaR or WinZip and you will see all the folders in place exactly as I described... Place your contents in the appropriate folders and flash..
followed exactly as mentioned above, downloaded the zip file, opened it and copied the tones as suggested and flashed my phone....the tones did not turn up in the list but i ended up loosing facebook, gmail and couple of other apps !....what could have gone wrong ?

Not sure... There is nothing there in that "Blank Flashable" except for the META-INF file with your standard install scripts and then I created the folders & path to the media/audio/
Not to sure what you could have done to cause FB, GMail and others to be lost as a result of that zip file...
BTW, you did make a Nandroid Backup before flashing as normal rule of thumb correct?
FYI, any other devs, etc... willing to verify the zip I posted has nothing to do with erasing/removing those apps described by the member please feel free to do so...

You can push it through ADB if you have it installed but I don't want to confuse you.
1. Plug your phone into the computer. Mount disk drive. ( depending what rom you have you might have to put it in internet pass through mode then usb disk drive)
2. Drag the file onto the sd card. Unmount phone.
3. Using your favorite file manager( RECOMEND ROOT EXPLORER!!) move the bootanimation.zip from the sd card into the correct file folder.
4. With root explorer the correct file system should /system/media folder
inside the media file folder will be the old bootanimation.( rename it to bootanimation.zipold
5. paste new bootanimation.zip reboot and enjoy

also rename the bootanimation to what yours is named either ATT_bootanimation.zip or bootanimation.zip
Here is how I did it.
1. Download the .zip to your desktop and rename this file to the file that your device uses. (I use ATT, so I navigated to system, customize, resource, and that's where I saw my boot animation and it was, ATT_bootanimation.zip
2. Mount the disk so you can open the external sd drive on your computer
3. Moved the .zip file from the desktop to the external sd drive
4. I use Rom Toolbox, but use a root explorer and copy the bootanimation zip file from your external sd card, to your devices bootanimation file, It will ask if you want to overwrite or keep both files, but you MUST overwrite. Reboot phone and it should work. If that doesn't then try and install it from your recovery and you might have to delete the cache, but try that.
I do recommend backing up the phone and the current rom though...Just incase

You can always try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1678540&highlight=sense
You have to download them first but it lets you see what it will look like.
Don't overwrite your ATT_bootanimation.zip file just rename it ATT_bootanimation.bak (or just bootanimation.bak if your original bootanimation file is named just bootanimation). This way if you can't get it to work then you can delete the file that dosen't work and go back to your original file by putting the .zip back.
Try install boot animation factory
HTC VIVID 4.0.4 SENSE 4.1
I'd love to try Annimation Factory but it requires Win SP3. I only have/use the laptop my company gives me and they control what SP are installed with an iron fist and we are only on SP1. I really need to build a new box. I"m still working on doing it the old fashion way as discribed in the OP's document.
EDIT - FYI - I installed Annimation Factory and it works just fine on SP1. One thing that I have noticed every time I open it it prompts me there is a new version even when turning off the check for updates in settings. When I try to download the new version it gives a downloader error. I don't think this is related to SP1. The AF version I have works good though. I'll go and get the new version manually.

[Q] How to enable mass storage in CM 10.1 ?

Does anyone know how to enable USB Mass Storage on our phones under CM10.1? I've searched around and found this thread. But since I'm not familiar with changing build.prop I don't dare to do it myself. There are some CWM .zip files around to enable it, but they are on other phone's forums and I'm sure they just replace/change the build.prop so it's definitely not a good idea to flash those on a different phone than the ones they were intended for....
Long story short, does anyone know how to enable it on ours?
TIA!
Update on the process:
I was able to edit the build.prop according to the instructions, but that alone doesn't seem to do anything.
So I decided to try the next step, but where it tells me to do the changes below I wasn't sure what to do.

-Delete the old file in Winrar from the apk file

-Put the new .apk file on your smartphone
Before you install the new .apk file take a Root Explorer and look at the permissions of the old .apk file and set this permission on the new once...

Well, how about decompiling the .apk file with APK Tools instead of just opening it with WinRar?
Yes, now I get a clean, editable, decompiled xml file.
I'll try editing both when I get home tonight and will post the results.
I guess this is a problem because of the emulated layout. There is a trick with setprop sys.usb.storage.config mass_storage but it does not work.
Keep me informed if you find something valuable (i'm on original CM10.1, latest nightly 0423 actualy).
Ok, here's the update from last night:
I started over since I flashed the nightly, which is good so I restarted with a clean slate.
- Edited build.prop - OK
- Copied framework-res.apk to my computer
- Decompiled framework-res.apk
- Edited storage_list.xml
- Recompiled framework-res.apk with new storage_list.xml
- Copied framework-res.apk back to my phone
- Deleted original framework-res.apk
- ...... instant restart & bootloop before I could paste the new framework-res.apk in its place
No big deal, just restored a nandroid backup I made before messing with anything and I'm back in business.
Apparently you can't mess with the framework-res.apk while your phone is on (with the OS running)... so now I need to research the right way to push/pull these files from ADB while on CWM recovery. I appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction since I'll be busy at work today.
To be honest, my gut feeling tells me that this is not going to work anyway. But look at what I learned so far... two days ago I wouldn't even think of compiling/decompiling anything... this is what XDA is all about, right?
Imho, the framework_res.apk and various tricks are all enabling or disabling a sys.usb.storage.config key. I'm not understanding nor finding informations about CM10.1 emulated layout, and if there are any reasons to forbid mass storage (because, yes, it seems it is disabled because it is not compatible).
This is something i have hard time with. On Android, you have tons of improvement for rom or kernel XY, but generally undocumented. If you apply this 'per device', the information is very fragmented and difficult to grab.
I was looking for a simple brief on base MTD partitions layout for LG P880, it seems the only way to have this is to dig KDZ files. Perhaps a Wiki would help the wannabe contributers like me to start ?

Flash the latest nightly. MTP is working and you cab transfer files that way.
Sent from my tree using a ladder
effectively, if you are flashing for USM, you should stay on LG stock.
I know that the topic got a little old but I'd like to refresh it since more people (e.g. Ubuntu users) could be interested in enabling Mass Storage.
What I've done is:
1) pulled /system/framework/framework-res.apk
2) decompiled it with APKtool
3) added
Code:
android:allowMassStorage="true"
in storage_list.xml
4) builded a new apk
then I've rebooted my phone into recovery and (@Apoena you may be interested in it - there is a possibility to access /system through adb connected with phone in recovery mode) pushed the new framework-res.apk. I've also changed the entry in build.prop to
Code:
persist.sys.usb.config=mass_storage,adb
Everything seemed fine until I've tried to reboot the phone: instead of CM boot logo I got a black screen. Anybody has an idea what went wrong (maybe something during recompilation of the apk)?
And of course sorry for any language mistakes, I'm not a native speaker
