FM Chip? - Motorola Droid Bionic

Anyone know yet if the Bionic will have an FM radio? I know both the Droid X and the Droid 2 had 'em, though only one had the app. Since Moto's been putting them in recent phones, I'd lean towards thinking it will, but I doubt it's important enough to have made any spec sheets yet.

I say yes and the new moto music player has fm radio and steaming radio. But with fm u still need wired headset

I honestly wouldn't mind that limitation, there's almost no examples of times I'd listen to music via the phone speaker anyhow.

What about via bluetooth headset?

no only wired head sets work with Fm.

The reason you need a wire is because the phone uses it as an FM radio antenna.

LG HBS-700

If anyone were interested in the new LG HBS-700 Bluetooth stereo headset, go get it! I got it for Christmas and I love it. It is the most comfortable, longest lasting stereo Bluetooth out there. I have had the Motorola S-9, Jabra BT-3030, among others, so I'm no stranger to the Bluetooth stereo headsets. I suggest this LG big time.

Have you noticed that the volume controls don't work when playing audio? I've only gotten the volume control to work on my Droid 2 when making a call, not playing audio. Disconnecting from my Droid 2 and connecting to my iPod Touch, I've had the same problem. I love these headphones, but not being able to control the audio is a bit of a bummer; not a deal killer, but a bummer.

Wow! All I needed was the second file (MotoFMRadio.apk). Installed it and it works great! The first file couldn't be installed, presumably because it's a system file and already on the phone.
Thank you, thank you!

You just downloaded and installed APK like any other app and it worked fine?
You just installed the MotoFM apk right?
I have the Droid 2 Global and tried to install the FM radio app. Installed fine but when I load the app, have headphone in, it just searches saying something like "loading FM stations" and just spins.
Anything I'm missing?

Is there anyway for this to work thru bluetooth? Anyway to record into MP3?
Thanks a lot I'm listening to my favorite radio station on my Droid Bionic now! Pretty cool!
sweet...awesome find!
Not that I see, ask for headphones before it even let's you in to program. Maybe there's an app that can fake it

Considering it uses the headphone cord as an antenna, I'm thinking no bluetooth, and the recording is pretty unlikely, too.
I wonder what headphone will give good reception. The white apple earplug sucks as reception. In Orange County and can barely get any station without some major static. Like 102.7..so much static.
This is pretty awesome. I come from an OG Droid and it didn't have the FM option.
What I always thought would be cool would be if we could turn out phones into FM transmitters so we can play music from our phones in our cars. The iPod's have those adapters that can do this, but since we are Android users and not Apple, how sweet would it be if the phone could be the transmitter! I know, another piece of hardware to integrate... But if it can receive FM now, it might be able to transmit?

Nope, a receiver is not a transmitter. What you would need is a transceiver.

Im impressed.
OP, if you mean the FM radio app, you need to use headphones as the headphone wire acts as the antenna. If you just mean music you have on your phone, try poweramp, it is a pay app, but it has a 2 week free trial. Has an excellent equalizer in it that will boost the volume.
If you are looking to listen to FM radio, and have a certain station in mind, see if they have an app that you can stream them on, check out their web site
Hope that answers your questions

Why do you need a "Good Old Analogue" radio when you have a choice of many good Internet radios, that allow you to choose your radio easily, rewind, pause and save radio?
And to just re-iterate my point, you don't need headphones plugged in for the internet radio to work !!!

Neither did my Galaxy Tab, nor does any of the 5 desktop computers in my house, or my mom's Galaxy Prevail, or her laptop. My PSP doesn't have it either, neither do my iPod Nano nor the 3 Shuffles I have. What ever shall I do...
Well...in a point of view you have all right....Just my mind is well...old fashioned...Greetings!!
The last phone of mine that had a radio was Nokia, my N900 (radio had to be unlocked) it even had a FM transmitter, downside with most Nokia phones I used to have was that after 15-30 minutes of talking my ear would have a popping effect as if I was in an aeroplane, plus a rash appeared on my skin where I used to put the phone in my left pocket.......hmmmn I wonder where all those phone radiation stories came from?
Not saying the the radio caused this, I'm just saying.
Although we might have to take into account the country where the OP may be living in as to why they might want an analogue radio.... nah, you can go to the small Caribbean islands off America and be certain they're teched up like anywhere else.

Though I admit radio would be a good addition (N7 being a WiFi only tablet, you can easily find yourself without internet connection), you have to bear in mind that the N7 is a budget product (I know it's easy to forget that seeing how awesome it is). Radio would up the production cost with no extra added value for most people.

I don't see a reason for a radio on the Nexus 7. My Eve 3D has a FM tuner and I never use it anymore.

My old HTC EVO 4G had radio built in but I never used it, mainly because it required me to plug in headphones. Since I couldn't play the radio through the speaker, I never bothered.
Go download TuneIn Radio if you really need local radio stations.

Oh yes, and you know what else it doesn't have; a built in death ray! Who cares? (Although now that I mention it, a death ray WOULD be a pretty sweet feature, lol!)

Nexus one did. Also used for emergency data transmissions and traffic. I think some weather apps pulled info also.

I use Tunein Pro as my radio. It's light on data transmission, has all my local AM/FM stations plus thousands more around the world. I unfortunately doesn't have the DAB+ stations, but then a dedicated chip won't either.
I use my phone as a hotspot when I'm out, so I always have a data connection.

Wish it had working radio. Would be perfect
I'm going to RMA mine until I get one with a working FM tuner. I'm on my 9th RMA so far, no working tuner yet.
The biggest reason I would like an FM radio, in my phone more than my tablet,is that many gyms and similar places broadcast the sound from their TV's over FM.

Most of the fm transmitter thingys I"ve found, just don't have enough power to work without some hiss.
Stupid RIAA years ago made them crank down the output because they were afraid they would broadcast too far.
I know my original XM radio converter could pick up in a car 10 feet away without any problem, but when it went
tango-uniform, the "new version" didn't have the range, and if you were in an area with a strong commercial FM
station, it would bleed through.
Thanks for the info guys we can just hope and lol
