Rogers Captivate the same as At&t Captivate? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Any one know if there the same? hardware wise? Like if I where to flash a US/at&t
based rom would it run/work on a Rogers Captivate?
Its my understanding that some of the at&t roms work with the Rogers version...But do all of them work?

From what I understand, they will work, but there are caveats, though they can be fixed some way or another.

Well like I said, I'm just assuming, but here is a Rogers ROM that you may be interested in: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914284
But I know that they will work. You can try flashing one and seeing for yourself what issues arise.

Ironically, there is little if any Rogers left in that rom.

I have an i896(rogers), and so far everything is good. I have yet to flash a rom, but the kernals work as well as the modems.
On the sticker inside the battery cover, the only thing that says i896 is the model number. Every other designation on the sticker refers to the phone as an I897
my build number is 1011.

Guys, the rogers captivate is literally the exact same, other than the model number. Every rom I've tried has worked without a glitch, and I've been flashing for a few months now.

Thank you for your input Escapist! You answered my question!

Root Canadian 3G Nexus One

I am curious I have the Rogers Wireless version of the Nexus One in the mail.
I can't get a definitive answer on if cyanogenmod will work on it without a problem?
I sure hope this isn't like the Rogers version of the G1.
Thanks,
Not at all like the Rogers Dream. The AT&T/Rogers version (I have read), is identical to the Tmo, except offers Rogers/AT&T 3G Band, 850mhz.
Procedure is the same as written elsewhere. You can skip the step for upgrading radio, I believe the newer N1's shipped with the newest radio. I don't have the instructions, followed the CM wiki. Just remember to skip the radio update part of the instructions. I believe the radio update allows root on stock ROM. When you upgrade to CM ROM for example, it is already rooted, which is why you can bypass this step.

Yes, you can install CM and it will work without any problems... essentially, the devices are the same, except for the radio... which is why there is a new RIL library and firmware module...
CM 5.0.5+, Enom 1.7.1, MCR 1.9+, ModacoDesire A16+ are all compatible with the new N1 and have the latest RIL & Firmware module...
And yeah, the new N1 has the latest radio image, so you don't have to update/faslh the radio...

No!!! DON'T DO IT!!! You're phone will be bricked!
J/K... this question has been asked a dozen times and a search would have yielded an answer in 10 seconds for you.

I wonder how radically different the Canadian N1 is to the US N1!
The only risk/problem you will expose yourself with tinkering is if you mess up with flashing the radio firmware. I used the latest cyanogen, recovery, and bootloader all while retaining the original radio firmware. (why fix it if it aint broken?)

What do you mean Stock ROM? Are you talking about a Vanilla ROM made for the Vibrant (which there are none yet) or are you talking about the Vibrant version of Touchwiz. Either way they have different stuff that will not allow a simple load of it. There are many codes that would have to be changed to work on the Captivate. Its the firmware that will not allow it, not the hardware.

HTC Raider=Same software?

I have had the HTC Raider (the Korean name for the Vivid) for a while now. I have been waiting for the phone to pop up on here so I can try out some Roms.
Anyone have any idea if these roms would be compatible for the HTC Raider? I would HOPE so, but I imagine that it isn't that simple
I am already rooted by the way if that matters.
I am guessing here but I think the only difference will Probably be the radio's. If that is the case I would assume someone would be able to pull the radio from the Raider and make 2 different versions of the same rom just with different Radio's. Or have a way to flash the radio independent of the actual Rom.

any HTC rom i have worked on or flashed has never included a radio in the rom flash.
I'm assuming once we have an unlocked bootloader, root, recovery and such that the modding community will be pretty decent. I imagine custom roms would work between several carriers. As long as you don't flash the wrong radio I don't see why there'd be any issues. Similar to several versions/carriers of the Evo 3D

Hence why I said. "Or have a way to flash the radio independent of the actual Rom." It has been a few months since I have been on an HTC device and I forgot how easy HTC is to Flash Radio's.

I'm assuming you're not referring to official RUU's. I'm pretty certain they tend to include radios. When dev's release custom roms they do not include radios...they tend to like to keep the individual aspects separate for customization
edit: just to be clear when I say RUU i'm not referring to an ruu that someone might have used to extract a stock rom or whatever i mean a real ruu_____.exe
No I was meaning the Radio's you can Flash from the bootloader on HTC Device's. The PC10IMG.zip type. Not sure what they need to be for this device but I assume it is the same type of thing.

You should be able to use the roms with a kernel update like I used to with my HTC dream using roms from the T-mobile. I think with the S-On that part can't be written onto anyways through the custom recovery. The dual-core chip is the same one as used in Korea, but they underclocked it to 1.2Ghz. However I noticed the major difference between the vivid/Raider(CDN) are the lte bands Korea is on 850 while we are using a mixture with mostly 700.

That's the only real hardware difference, I think. Korea uses 850MHz LTE, while Bell uses 700/1700/2100 and Rogers/ATT uses AWS/700.

[Q] Recommended Radios for Canada

I'm just wondering what the best radio would be for my canadian service provider? I'm currently on 3805.09.03.27_M any suggestions??

If you are not experiencing any issues, then why worry about it?
I second that. Why bother if it is working fine. It is not that if you upgrade all of a sudden your voice is going to sound very sexy . But to answer your question check with what the ROM recommends. Usually the ROM should recommend you a radio. Otherwise assume it should work with whatever radio is installed on the device.

[Q] T-Mobile to AT&T

I was using T-Mobile and I'm now on AT&T do I need to use an AT&T Rom? The custom Rom I'm using for T-Mobile does work but wondering if using an AT&T Rom would be best regarding the radios, etc.

there's no such thing on a nexus device as custom roms for different carriers. they are all exactly the same, and will work on any carrier.
So you're saying I can use any Rom on this phone? Since there are custom Nexus 6 roms for T-Mobile and AT&T here so that's my question?

Doesn't matter. I've run the T-Mobile on Sprint. Only radios will have a role in your reception.
Thank you! Do I need to flash the AT&T radio along with any version ROM I choose? I really appreciate the help I just don't want to mess anything up.

No, you only flash a radio once. Unless you want to use a different one. Find the one that works best for you and keep it.
