Driver Troubles
I'm not sure what I'm missing here but have been battling with this for quite a while. I'm using a clean Windows XP machine and the drivers install on xp fine but they never automatically associate with my phone when plugged in via USB. Is there a way to manually do this? I tried to manually install the drivers but must not be choosing the correct ones. Any thoughts? Thanks!

just use the windows automatic update. it worked for me.

Now, how to extract the firmware so I can take a look at the insides of the rom?

I can't believe I haven't seen this until now. This is huge!

LG Panther
Do you think it would be possible flash one of these roms to an LG Panther? I have looked at these steps and I am not sure if I follow.
What do you mean by "(use serial number)" and "the correct DLL for your model"
Thanks for your help.

I don't think it would be wise to try that out on your device. If it does exist, you should find a rom that is designed for your LG Panther. If you do try to flash the quantum rom on the panther, you risk bricking your device permanently. This is because the Panther uses a different firmware than the quantum does.

Pressing (Space Bar + Power) gets into Emergency Download mode much easier

Turns out, we can't even flash using this. Since we don't have a proper MP DLL for the GW910 (and believe me, I've looked for WEEKS) and the LGDP2_V36_UMTS.exe doesn't even seem to find the device anyway, there's no hope for us.

ok, what did you do? I'm having the same issue?

My LG Quantum device features the model name LG-C900N. I am wondering if anyone has access to the associated firmware DZ file and/ or the required MP DLL?
thanks

Just grabbed a super cheap quantum that was having a random freeze and slowdown issues, and instead of testing it out followed the op's steps.
Needless to say, I have a working quantum and am happy.

I'm pretty sure you can. The chipsets are all the same but I don't know if I'd want to risk my device to try it.

[EXPLAINATION] csmg.lgmobile.com, ROM Compatbility, Baseband concerns

I've been receiving PMs about confusions arising from misunderstanding how csmg.lgmobile.com links work
To understand the following you need to know what is LG Mobile Tools. If you already know, good.
Now you can throw LG Mobile tools out of the windows, we don't really need it here.
There are three types of csmg.lgmobile.com links you will see:
-------------------------------------------------
1. csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/csmg/b2c/client/web_model_list.jsp?country=SG&model=LGP880
This is the link LG Mobile Tools goto to when looking for the correct USB drivers for the particular model in the particular country. It also shows the latest ROM for all operators in your country and region
How to use: Replace the red highlighted with your country code and phone model. In this page look for your operator or region, copy and paste the corresponding URL into the address bar to download the drivers
2. csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/csmg/b2c/client/auth_model_check2.jsp?esn=[IMEI]
This is the link where the latest ROM for your IMEI is checked after LG Mobile Tools submits your IMEI. On this page only info for your IMEI is shown.
How to use: Key in your IMEI on the red highlighted. This page provides you the download link to the LATEST ROM just for your phone. Both links are identical
3. csmgdl.lgmobile.com/swdata/WDLSW/LGP880/ASHBBK/V20a_00/V20A_00.kdz
Continuing from 2., the part that says /LGP880 refers to the model, /ASHBBK region or operator, the rest version number and file. Anything you are able to download from here are direct from LG's server and is official, since they opens the file for you.
If you came from link no 2, this file IS THE CUSTOMISED ROM for your phone you should be running according to LG.
-------------------------------------------------
Not having the latest ROM shown for your phone isn't the end of the world. Unless LG decides to remove any method to flash (thereby rendering their own service department useless), you can always flash it LG Service Center style with the available tools and methods.
Compatbility concerns
As long as you intends to put in LG original ROMs for your model on your phone using the correct method, your phone system will naturally and stupidly accept it, and safe. That is why custom roms always carries a risk of incompatibility.
But if you shows up to them for warranty with a phone running a futuristic ROM, your warranty's busted.
csmg.lgmobile.com doesn't know what crap you are running. Your secret is safe if you don't tell them (doesn't covers secret intelligence gathering by LG, MLT.apk)
Ok, compability isn't an issue, there's still one concern, Baseband, or frequencies.
99% of flashing going on here using official LG ROMs for the correct model have no issues with baseband. You can flash Euro Open on to a HK set, or vice versa, because one simple reason - The ROM is designed for this phone, it will support all basebands this phone has
If you thinks further, this will bring out possibily another question, does your phone support the baseband used in your country?
Easy, www.gsmarena.com has the spec sheet for you. All you need is to call up your carrier to check with them, or any other regulations before you buy a phone from foreign country.
Nonetheless, if you happens to encounter baseband issue after flashing, fear not, the problem doesn't call for nuclear war. Download the firmware for your IMEI or last ok ROM, flash it.
all above info are AFAIK.

Tool for flashing the KDZ files
When I download KDZ file, how to put this new OS version on my phone ? Can I use it with offical tool from LG (for example: LGMobile Support Tool) ?
The reason I ask this is I updated my LG 4X HD with LGMobile Support Tool to Android 4.1 and I have catastrophic battery drainage (Android system drain 50% of the battery, on ICS it was about 4-5%). So I want to revert back to ICS.
Also, can you tell me where I can find offical ICS roms for LG 4X HD ?
Thanks in advance for your answer man,

The official LGMobile Support Tool will download the kdz from server, no matter if you already have it or not.
You can try LGFlash Tool (the better and cleanest flash you'll ever have), or flash with kdz following one of the tutorial on the forum.
The best to prevent battery drain, is to get root access, uninstall stock apps that are useless to us.
Search "battery drain" and flash methods for a better knowledge
added explaination on baseband compability issues.
Get RIL could help with baseband, trouble is it doesn't work on JB yet, sent my report to them to see if they update it last week

Problem is one should not be entering the IMEI of one's phone into random websites. The potential for your IMEI being stolen and blacklisted is hazardous.
What people who find this thread are most likely to be interested in is where/how to find direct links to LGE's download sites. Like the two URLs in the opener where you can get the correct KDZ for your device by sending your IMEI directly to LGE; or get the KDZ for a given device merely given its designation and region.
Has anyone analyzed the appropriate tools to figure out updated URLs?

There is a way to download the current firmware directly from the LG server.
Various other sites use the same method described on the "Checking for official updates" page.
Simply described in >this< post.

solution:
If you want to use browser to download files from LG server, You need to set “LGE-ActiveDP/0.9” as your browser’s user Agent.,
To change the User agent settings in Chrome browser, I use User-Agent Switcher plugin.

[Q] How to flash latest firmware?

Hello once again. As usual, I've first tried to search my question in the forums, but I couldn't find the answer. So, here I go:
I have a Lumia 925, for which the latest software, according to nokia.com, is 3050.XXXX, whereas the version I have in my phone is 3047.XXXX. When I check for updates in the phone settings, I get a "your phone is up to date". If I use the Nokia Software Updater tool, it says the same.
On the other hand, I bought my phone debranded and unlocked, not "linked" to any provider. So, I'll never get an update via network provider.
Now my question is: where can I find and download the latest firmware for the phone, and how can I flash it?
Phoenix Service Software asks me for a dongle, that I have not. Nokia SU for Retail doesn't give me the latest ROM. Which is the appropriate software for flashing a Nokia Lumia, then?
Thanks in advance.
no new update because not officially released to OTA update...
be patient or read forum... is too many posts on forum about this... you must use NCS or Nokia Care Suite (not latest version), and download and flash firmware via Product Support Tool for Store 5.0 in NCS
NCS download
After Nokia Suite installs, copy and replace the usergroupsconfiguration.cfg file to C:\Program Files (x86)\Nokia\Nokia Care Suite\Product Support Tool For Store 5.0 if you’re running a 64-bit version of Windows. Or C:\Program Files\Nokia\Nokia Care Suite\Product Support Tool For Store 5.0 if on 32-bit.
1. Open Nokia Suite. And select ‘Product Support Tool For Store 5.0′
2. When prompted, select ‘CareSuite External’ then hit ‘Sign-in’ button.
3. From the Menu, select Tools, then ‘Firmware Download’
4. Now enter the product code of your device, hit ‘Check Online’ button, to check the latest firmware version of your product code.
5. Then ‘tick’ ‘Optional Content Files and ‘Download’ to save your firmware.
6. Wait a few minutes for your files to download
7. You may now manually flash your Nokia device with the firmware you just downloaded.
- Your firmware should be stored in the C:\ProgramData\Nokia\Packages\Products folder of your hard drive.

Thank you. I already downloaded and installed NCS, and followed those steps, but I didn't get the prompt for signing in. Perhaps because I downloaded the latest version (2012.50)? To which version should I downgrade? There are a bunch of them.
In any case, the sad part of it is... NCS says that my device (Lumia 925) is not supported. When I plug in my other Nokia (RM-675), it's supported, which means that my NCS installation is working. Then, why the Lumia 925 shows as not supported? Am I doing something wrong, or it's simply and really not supported by the software?

Ok, I finally got it working. Just downloaded the very latest version of NCS and replaced the edited file. Phone supported.

Thank you so much! You saved my ass with this.
Here is a direct mirror in case anyone needs it: http://storagecow.eu/index.php?dir=Xda/LG+G5/Verizon+VS987/Nougat+7.0/
My connection hates MEGA for some reason, so had to get it from LG's servers.
I would like to add that as long as you are on a 7.0 ROM so far you can downgrade back to this release.
But do not go any farther down or hard-bricks can and possibly will occur and this I know as I have a sprint g5 hard-bricked and there is no fix for sprint or Verizon g5 hard-bricks yet.
Would like to try, hope hotspot working, and no other issue after upgrade ..

I'm trying to upgrade to vs98728a or even vs98728b, I already have 98726b, but I'd like to use my hotspot capability. Can i use this method (but download the vs98728a kdz instead) with no problems?
Not sure what level noob this question rates as lol I'm just getting into rooting/flashing androids and, while I am a quick learner, I'm also very poor and cannot rrisk a soft or hard brick on my device.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help
Google Lock, no accessibility menu
Hi, when my G5 (VS987) phone starts after installing this Nougat 7.0, I don't see Accessibility Menu in order to bypass the Google Lock. Do you know why? Thanks very much for your help in advance.

Removing Carrier Lock?

The Alcatel 5033T (Telstra) I have is Telstra-locked to the point that most online unlock-code providers can't get a code to free it up. The only places which say they can do it require you to bring it in (they're in other states) or they want you to install Teamviewer (!) and they'll do it remotely.
I'm sure this is a FAQ on other phone models, but I see nothing for the Alcatel 1 here yet. What are the chances someone with past experience on ADB can figure out how to get this working with a non-Telstra SIM?
Did you manage to sort this
How to mount sd card
saw someone posted this, any Guru can verify the steps? or make it clearer?
**********************************************************************************
On the 5033T fastboot will flash only the system.img not the boot or recovery
image,so Magisk or TWRP cannot be flashed via fastboot. Also to flash via SPflashtool for the MT6739 you now need a custom DA and Auth file for that phone.
The downloaded edited 5033D system image will give you root access but install
RootCheckerBasic app to check as sometimes the root access disappears.
The phone modem is in the vendor.img partition and so should be unaltered as you
have flashed the system.img partition only.Your bands should be unaltered. Install the MTK Engineering Mode apk and use the bandmode function to see the bands. (Phone Developer option must be on(Tap build number untill developer options appear)).
Now that you have root access you can now network unlock the phone. Using ES File Explorer or Root Explorer. In the phone /vendor/protect_f/md you will see a file ST33_004. This file determines whether the phone is network locked.
If you get this file from an unlocked phone and put it in place of the one
in the locked phone the phone will be then unlocked and vice versa.
Download the 5033A firmware from the Needrom site. From the download get the protect1.img (in another files). Download to your PC the Ext4Unpacker tool.
Use the tool to extract the ST33_004 file from the 5033A protect1.img .
This is the unlocked ST33_004.
Using ES or Root Exp rename the existing ST33_004 in the phone as ST33_004bac
and copy the new ST33_004 file into the directory. The phone will now accept
non Telstra/Boost SIMs .
Also download the Mobile Upgrade S Gotu2 v5.3.5 tool to your PC. This is the TCL(i.e.=Alcatel) official firmware upgrade tool. It replaces the firmware in
your phone with the latest version on their server for your phone. For a stock
phone it will upgrade to their latest stock version.
For the 5033T+5033D 'hybrid' ,when started the tool appears to be downloading
the 5033T firmware from the server, so it seems that the tool could be used
to return the phone to stock, but this not tried or tested yet.

Where'd you find this? I'm willing to try 'cos it'll let me get my son off Telstra's overpriced plan and onto something affordable like Jeenee (which the rest of us are on). I've had this Telstra SIM for years so I was hoping they'd unlock the phone for me - after all, it was sent as a replacement for an older phone that'll be out of service when they retire some of the towers in our area - but when I call in to have them do that, they say they'll have to call me back and (of course) never do...

Korea region V40, can I flash to European firmware?

Hello,
I have a LM-V409N here. It has some Korean bloatware but worse than that, even though the phone is set to English, a lot of things are still in Korean. For example an available software update description is in Korean. Buttons in the phone app show Korean text, etc.
Can I flash a European firmware on to this model? Will that 'just work'?
I hope someone can help me with this.
Thank you,
Rooted? you won't get far otherwise. Had the same problem on my korean G5.
On a rooted device though, you can edit the build.prop locale to your native region to turn off the korean elements of the UI and obviously remove the bloat.
some of the bloat can be disabled even if uninstall isn't allowed. Carrier specific ones can't unfortunately.
Flashing wise, iirc that's a no go as it will break radio. No signal afterwards. At least that was the problem on the V35.
Thank you so much for your reply. This makes me worry a bit less
No I don't have it rooted (yet). I will go figure out how to do that for this phone model and then if I can't find out how to do the build.prop changes I will come back here to ask for help
Do you have any idea why WiFi HotSpot is not working properly? Laptops and other phones just don't see the SSID and when trying to setup a 5GHz hotspot, the slider hangs when you turn it on (turns gray and freezes) and you have to reboot the phone to get it enabled again. But it will only turn on when on 2.4GHz.
If I can get all the Korean stuff to disappear, flashing won't be necessary anymore So let me get to finding that out!
Let's first see if flashing fixes anything.
Thank you so much once again!
Edit: Come to think of it, when I turn on the phone it shows an SK Telecom animation and sound (some Korean carrier I guess) and I would like that removed as well..
I guess the only way to get that removed is to flash another firmware? Would you know a firmware version for this LM-V409N which is just 'LG original' without any carrier/provider customization?
Thank you!
Edit2: OK, I found out how I can flash a stock firmware using the LGUP tool. However, this fails at the beginning of the process because of an 'Initialize' error.
I suspect I need the device to be rooted before flashing..? I could find how to flash pretty easily, but how to root..?
Can anyone point me to a guide for rooting the V40?
Thanks!
No, you don't need root. Just search here on xda for crossflash word. In the g7 forum I have made an tutorial. You will need lg drivers, com port, lg up and common. DLL for v40. For g7 it works like a charm. Be sure to check and compare GSM bands from Korea to EU. For g7 they was the same.

OK, did all that. LGUP starts up, detects my LM-V409N correctly.
I select the KDZ file, set it to UPGRADE and click START.
Now it gives me the error 'LGUP Framework must be 1.16'. I have 1.14 apparently and I can't find 1.16 anywhere.
I read something about "If you do have some knowledge to bypass the LGUP Version Check on this DLL, then You can sideload kdz firmware onto your LG V40 ThinQ with LGUP 1.14." on this site: https://www.mylgphones.com/lgup-dll-for-lg-v40-thinq-version1-9-39-7.html
But again, I can't find anything about how to bypass that version check.
I tried with LGUP_common.dll versions 1.9.39.7 and 1.0.39.10. Both same result (need 1.16).
Also tried with 0.0.3.23 but that one gives the "Initialize" error after clicking START.
Any other tips or tricks you can suggest?
Thank you,

Hello.
I told you to look in g7 forum for crossflash. You will need lg up 1.15 and follow the exact steps. Beware it may brick your device, so I'm not responsible.
Link here https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg...ash-oreo-pie-firmwares-lg-g7-g7-t3915303/amp/
Warning!!! Pay attention not to download the common. DLL from there as it is for lg g7. You must download for your v40. Also for your firmware. Also you will loose your data, so backup first if you have important files, sms, etc.

OK so for my clarification, this method is how to bypass the version check? (If yes, I will go try this).
Or is this a separate method? (If it is separate, I'm afraid to brick it and I will not try it).
Thank you so much for your help. It really is very much appreciated.

Yes, this is for bypassing the obsolete lg up 1.14.
But 1.15 will not work if you open it, it will ask you for developer user and password. But there is a hack with using cmd line. Follow my steps.
I repeat again, if there is a working DLL for lg v40 and if 40 supports crossflashing (highly it does) then you're good to go. Don't forget to check what is your com port when your v40 is connected in download mode.

No I didn't. Neocyke told me that radio wouldn't work that way so that would have been useless then. This is the post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80177222&postcount=2
Or did he mean FM Radio......? Because I could live without FM Radio.
The one I did flash is still Korean, but it has no carrier customization. No cellular provider specific apps, no Korean company logo's at startup.
Only thing I noticed is that there still are Korean characters showing right below the numbers in the phone dialer app. But it also shows ABC, DEF, etc.
Oh, and a second clock showing Korean time on the lock screen :silly: which I can't find out how to turn off

I also have that clock on my V50.
For me it worked with my g7+ Hong Kong international to European and also got volte amd vowifi.
Yes, he was referring to the GSM radio. So this will be risky.
Maybe you should not try. You can check if someone did it with G7....
I also have remembered that I cross flashed my G7 from HK to European, to Korean, back and fourth between them and all was fine.
---------- Post added at 06:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:58 PM ----------
Maybe the V line from LG is risky about radios. Or maybe that was on V35. My point is that this is very risky an you should assume responsibility if flashing. Maybe it's better do not try it.

I will see how it goes with this firmware for a week or two. If it is all fine, I'll leave it like this.
