Custom screen-off animation possiblity - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know what the new Android 2.3 screen off animation runs off
If it uses a .zip like the boot animation, we may be able to create custom screen off animations. I'm searching for the mysterious and possibly non-existent file now, but it would be great if someone could help, or tell me there isn't one and I should give up, which is my assumption now.
It isn't in the /system/media folder if anyone was planning to check there.

A good place to start would be CM7. Cyanogenmod has already implemented the ability to turn on and off the screen off animation. Not only that, he reversed the animation and made a screen ON animation.
That's probably what you should be looking at.

Only problem with that is that CM7 isn't very stable in many ways as of yet. Most of the Android platform has been "figured out" in that we know where most of the graphics etc are. This one to my knowledge has still be illusive

CM7 not stable? apart for the phone bug that's already taken care of everything works...

It's got the equivalent to duct tape over it (at least last I heard if you are referring to shutting the mic off every 60 seconds). I admit to not following the thread too closely as it moves at lightning speed, but doesn't seem like something I'd want to use daily yet.

A duct tape that works very well.
Use it before you judge it. CM7 nightly is very polished even though it's not considered "stable".
I'm using it for everyday use without any hiccups for the past month, of course the duct tape helped.

there "was" an active one in the Evo thread about this but the conclusion to this whole thing was that the screen off animation is in the code itself and that code was not in froyo anywhere. so pretty much that screen off animation is only limited to 2.3 roms. someone else on xda made a flashable zip that enabled the screen off animation in a 2.3 rom that didnt have it active. like everyone suggested, stick to a 2.3 rom and forget about porting it to anything below it if thats what you were thinking.
edit: here is the link to the thread that was most active about getting the animation http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=864556&highlight=screen+animation
i know its a few pages long but somewhere around page 14-17 they talk about the details about where it comes from and the actual code itself

Don't think the OP was talking about porting it to anything other than 2.3, just the possibility of modifying it so we can have a custom animation.
Screen burst into flame as it goes off anyone

The Gingerbread Screen off animation is not in /system/media folder, it is controlled by some .xml files in framework-res.apk

[Rom][Port] xXBabiboi228Xx{Manila Carbon Fiber 2.2™} from EVO *UPDATED 1/21*

I'm making this thread to avoid confusion now that there is a working port.
Well just heard back from xxbabiboi228xx and trock79 apparently will be using parts of his rom in the future, but until then.
Here is my port, everything seems to work and I do not intend on maintaining this. Hope this works out for anyone who wants it.
This is a straight port of xxbabiboi228xx's rom! I did not have anything to do with the development of this rom and take no credit for doing so, only for making it work on the inc.
build 1
http://www.multiupload.com/JGRRQM38KZ
build 2
http://www.multiupload.com/8N9XY7CHPN
build 3
http://www.multiupload.com/FWNZYAQB6T
Changlog:
build 2:
Cleaned up the sprint stuff and added the gingerbread keyboard. Htc keyboard still there by default. Also added the htc lock screen back with an optional download for the vanilla lockscreen in the first post. You can try a flash over and it should work, but I recommend a full wipe, quite a bit was changed. Let me know if flash over works out if you try. Trimmed 10mb's off.
build 3:
Updated to new host rom (xxbabiboi228xx' 2.4) Changed battery indicator to vertical green with percentage (gingerbread style). Theme changed a little bit here and there.
Integrated rosie right key setting (internet icon still present after change) and notification toggle widget changer (PowerControl settings)
No more bootloop on first boot (you don't have to wait to see the lockscreen twice anymore)
New clean and simple bootanimation, very nice in my opinion
bugs known:
4g settings and sprint apps are still present
Other than that, nothing else that I know of
I have tested:
browser
phone
mms and sms
wifi
bluetooth
gps
market
camera with flash
camcorder (720)
mail and facebook sync
Just to be clear I do not intend to maintain this rom. If anyone else wants to take over from here, great! Its a really nice looking rom for sure. I only did this because it was requested and I liked the look of it. The rom runs great, check it out!

Thanks br125 for all your efforts again!! Wanted to be the first one to thank you !
Now if we can get that haptic feedback in the dialer, the lock screen, and the GB keyboard, we'll be money, LOL!
Again, thank you so much for your hard work, and the hard work of BabiBoi! Also the upcoming support from trock79!
You guys are awesome, thank you again!
I will download and I would love to help by supporting this. Let me know what is needed and I am sure I can make it happen...

@synisterwolf: Doesn't say Sprint for me, that is, if you meant the Operator Name/Logo. As br125 mentioned though, the Sprint apps should be present in the ROM. I hope that answers your question?
@Lsdozer: The easy answer to your question is, edit the file called, widget.txt, to your liking.
The file resides in system\customize I believe.
Unfortunately, the tool br125 posted, is only for the Cyanogen ROMs I think. And for the life me, I have been unable to effectively change that text file, using Root Explorer, ES Explorer, and SUManager. People swear that this is the easiest task to take care of, but for me, I have tried it all, when trying to edit from within the phone, and nothing has worked. If you consider editing the file on your computer and push it to your phone, one thing to consider is that I read somewhere that the file has to have a UNIX signature on it, for it to work. This is the reason why I was adamant to try to edit the file, while it was on my phone, well... that and because I have no idea how to push files using ADB or something to my phone... Hope this helps, please let me know if it works for you. If it does, please post what you did, thanks!
On separate notes guys, does anyone know how to restore haptic feedback to the lockscreen, when unlocking? The original ROM came with the Sense the lockscreen, as default, but I believe br125's port defaults to the Vanilla lockscreen.
Other things we can think about is:
1. Figuring out which kernels are working out well on the ROM, since it has now been ported to the Incredible.
2. Maybe getting that Gingerbread keyboard on here ?
Thanks once again to br125, Babiboi, and, trock79 as well!
I will take a look at gettin haptic working for you, i took out the htclockscreen when I ported it and forgot to add it back in. xxbabiboi228xx said that he will be releasing 2.4 tonight most likely and I'll have some free time tomorrow that I could possibly add in his changes/fixes.
As for kernels, any inc. sense kernel will (should) work. ie. incredikernel, heyitslou's kernel etc.
I've flashed Lou's kernel and it works great, I'm currently at 77% and been using it off the charger for about 7 hours or so
edit: the notification toggles shouldn't be hard to get the 4g outta there and add more useful things and I'll put the gingerbread keyboard in there if it works when I take a look at it. Basically I wanna clean up all the sprint leftovers and make it not seem like a port

Sounds great Sir! You are the man !
BTW, I tried getting some of the GB keyboard flashed over into the ROM, from the forum. Maybe it's my luck, but I have never actually gotten a single keyboard flashed successfully through to recovery. Whether it was the EVO or the DInc, same results...
This was no exception of course ...

Ran fix permissions and rebooted and fixed photos and videos but still music app does not pick up music on SD.
Edit: now picking up music! Guess needed to give it more time. Maybe that will get Navigation working. Maps work fine but Nav still not.

[Q] Is it possible to keep puzzle lock and replace glass lock with AOSP Lock?

I know that the lock screens can be replaced with AOSP. But what I have been looking around for is the option to use the stock puzzle lock and remove glass lock with AOSP.
I know I can always use an app like widget locker but would prefer it to be a system change instead of an app that runs.
All of the lock screen edits I have seen so far completely replace the Puzzle/Glass lock. But not replace just one of them.
If anyone knows how I can do this myself or get me started to be able to do this I am up for the challenge. Or if it already exists please point me in the right direction. I have done a lot of reading and searching already.
Thank you in advance.
I would be interested in knowing this as well. I wouldn't mind having the AOSP lock, but would definitely want to keep the puzzle.
It is possible to make edits to have the system offer multiple lockscreens...however its a pretty involved string of edits....I know thatdudebutch has/is trying it....but its significantly more involved than our normal method of switching them
Wonder if i could just start with modifying the images to be the same as the AOSP lock screen. test and then go from there. i am going to take a look tonight if i can and see what is involved with it. Thanks for the info nitsuj17.

the images are all in the framework. Thats not the issue. However edits have to be made to the android.policy.jar to switch lockscreens and id assume to support multiple ones as well as edits the framework itself.
a few people in irc are attempting to do something like this, as it is possible...just we've all been unsuccessful to this point.
i was doing some research and found a user had done this on his vibrant. I found the post on the team whiskey forums. Would it help to look over his code to see what was modified or would his android.policy.jar be completely different cause it is technically a different phone?

the edits are usually the same, but occasionally in different places....you would have to compare apples to apples so you d need an edited android.policy.jar and a stock one from the rom
ok cool. i downloaded his theme/rom and will try to compare. I am not very familiar with modifying .jar files so this will be new ground for me. I know about editing the images in the framework file, thats the simple part.
This would be a nice option, I actually started on this back on DJ09. Then froyo came and I started again on that. My goal was to offer the puzzle lock, android lock, rotary lock and the glass lock.
Actually some of those changes were slowly being made to the NeonGT theme port. I believe both the dl09 and dl30 versions. I don't remember how far I got, but feel free to pull the files and take a look.
posting in support of this concept! I like the puzzle lock but not the glass screen
it would be nice indeed
How about keeping both and adding 2 more?

[ROM] BakaMod V1 (2.2.1 KD1) - Froyo's Last Stand

BakaMod V1 - Froyo's Last Stand (2.2.1 KD1)
Built on the theory that LESS is MORE. This is a MINIMALIST Rom. It uses the most up to date Froyo base I could find. Why not Ginger? Well... battery.. GPS.. there are reasons to stick with Froyo IF you want reliability, speed and long life.
The battery on this rom is PHENOMENAL!
There will not be any updates to this ROM. I built it as a learning excercise, and while I think it is pretty stable, there are a couple few issues (all documented in this post) that I'm not prepared to deal with. Take it for what you will, if anybody wants to use this to do their own work and fix the issues, feel free, no credit required!
BASE: T959VUVKD1 from the SGS 4G by drhonk
FEATURES:
Removed tons of bloat. Didn't ADD my own bloat.
Accurate Battery Mod
Cianbreadish Status Bar
Simplified Boot Animation
GPS/Speed/Zipalign/Build Prop tweaks
Loopy Smoothness Tweak
No Full Battery Alert
No T-Mobile boot or shutdown sounds/animation.
6 Lockscreen/Power Menu Mod
KB1 Modem - Cuz I got great battery life.
Yes I know what Baka means. I use the term affectionately.
KERNEL: Bali-X 1.2
LAUNCHER: NemusLauncher
GPS
Should work perfectly as do all Froyo ROMs. I got a very quick lock (under 10 seconds) on first boot with this setup, with 10 satellites.
LAUNCHER
I went out on a limb including a relatively unheard of launcher. However, I find it to be a very lightweight and responsive launcher. A little different than you may be used to, it defaults to manual sorting of apps. To change this behaviour, from the app drawer, select Menu->MainMenu Style->Alphabetical, and it will go to vertical scrolling alphabetically.
KNOWN ISSUES
1. Apps2SD - KD1 assumes you want apps on the SDCard, even if the app doesn't prefer that location. Can cause issues. Only apps that explicitely block being installed to SD get installed to Phone Memory.
2. Wifi Calling - Not ported and probably won't be.
3. 4G Icon - I didn't notice it was still in the theme. Rest assured, your phone hasn't been granted magical 4G capability.
4. Locales: I won't be porting these. Looks like a nightmare, and unless this ROM becomes popular (which it won't), there's not much benefit.
5. Camera - It has the FFC button, but I'm not sure if the FFC works without additional hacking. Haven't tried it, I don't have an FFC.
INSTALL
The usual - flash from CWM. If you have issues, WIPE FIRST. Does not require any special boot loaders. Nothing to see here.
GET BLOATED
View the BLOAT on my website here: http://tsukaima.net/KD1Bloat/ and download whatever is missing that you want. Drop the missing junk into /system/app via ADB or Root Explorer, and feel re-bloated! Do note that these Bloats are for KD1 only!
Any other Google Bloat can be gotten from the market.
DOWNLOAD
http://www.multiupload.com/IW8EV3BT9X
NOTE:
I pulled the default Undervolt version. The only difference is it included the config file that you can generate using the Voltage Control app. It also crapped out some phones. I did this rather than a 1.1 release. After what appeared to be stable testing of the 1.1 release with only minor changes, it suddenly went crashy and bootloopy. Probably due to changes in the startup scripts, those things are touchy.
So... consider this the first and last release of BakaMod. Why? Well, there are some issues with KD1 that were never resolved, such as its installing apps to SD Card regardless of app preferences, as well as a few other minor issues that I'm just not prepared to address. As is, it is a usable ROM, but I plan to spend my energy elsewhere and let this release stand for what it is, which is actually a pretty usable 2.2.1.

I think you'd have to re-sign the zip if you did that. It might be better just to pull the existing one with adb and then push it back, or use root explorer.
The reason I didn't include the 3G tweaks from his thread, are that they are typically more or less helpful for each user depending on the local network conditions.

Been meaning to odin to JFD myself... have wanted to pull the framework from it to make an Eclair theme for nostalgia purposes LOL...
Phone is about to boot! Voodoo just got done activating...nice boot animation reminds me of the stock Mytouch 3g one lol I always adored that for some reason. Now I got to wait until 3:30 (midwest) to reboot ugh
I was just on JFD two days ago because I just got off of CM7 to flash DMZ and I JFD'd to flash this ROM as well time consuming, but I think its worth it...
When I boot up my phone it boots up first it boots then it has to boot over again 0.o hard to explain, but at first my phone wouldn't get signal then I had to reboot again (after the initial one) now everything is fine and I'm gonna dive into this ROM.

Odd, not sure why it would double boot... Mine hasn't done that and I've flashed this several times tweaking everything. Maybe it is due to the recent ODIN? Or are you still on GB boot loaders maybe? If it continues to act up, it could be due to undervolting... I took a risk including that by default, but I think most phones can handle the settings I included. If not, I'll update it and let people undervolt via the market app, but in my experience it's a little daunting to be setting that up yourself for most people.

Strangest thing.... Was on CNA, decided to try ICSSGS, didn't like it as well so flashed back and calendar was there. I assume because I did not wipe on the flash back to CNA?
FWIW, I have tried this, ICSSGS, and CM9. CNA is my favorite. I have had almost no issues. 1 app won't run, but it is from my small, local bank.

That issue is fixed on ICSSGS and maybe others, I'm not certain if it involves some adjustments ROM-side, or it should be fixed by using latest gapps. I previously encountered the issue but haven't seen it in quite some time.
The alternative would be buying them in the browser/pc.

I got it installed (with the Glitch kernel - running at 1.4Ghz so far), and I'm very impressed
The only issue I haven't yet been able to figure out is the external SD card. It seems that it now gets mounted under /mnt/emmc/ ? For whatever reason, the music player can't find the media that I have on the external SD card. Any ideas? I can find it using ES File Explorer and play the files individually.
Privacy
There has been an ever-increasing number of apps which want access to private information (like call logs, location, and contact information) without needing it to run the application. I'm talking about games and not apps which require such information like Anti-virus and such. Will we ever have a permission manager a la MIUI on this ROM? I understand that many developers work in concert, so I am wondering why most ROM's are not created with safeguards in place to protect private information. I am aware that I am not in the MIUI Q&A section, but I feel this is an issue that all ROM's should consider in order to protect private information. I know that I don't have to install apps which ask for this information if I don't want to give up my information, but it seems that every app nowadays asks for these permissions and it would be a shame to continue as if there were nothing wrong with compromising private information to play a game.
Thanks in advance.
I was one if the unlucky ones that had no 3g data after flashing this rom, flashed glitch, moved apn-conf.XML to the /system/etc/ directory overwriting the old file.
This did not bring data back. I decided to look at the apn list and noticed that it was blank. Clicked the menu button, then selected reset to defaults. Ten minutes later I had data.
Lock Screen
Has the lock screen been updated to allow for custom applications where it shows the icon of the custom application instead of that alien looking character? This was one of the reasons I moved away from this ROM and would love to come back. I'm not a fan of having to try to remember which application ties to which alien character.

Not yet. It still shows the animated android.
Nostalgia shows the custom icons on the ICS lock screen. (haven't flashed any other ICS roms yet.)
Update 3/24:
All aosp roms do not show custom icons.
All aokp based roms do show custom icons.
aosp also seems a little laggier than aokp. Playing angry birds space @ 1.3 ghz resulted in click and audio lag. (Gummy charged was my aosp test platform at that time).
Docs runs blazing fast at same speed with no click lag. Aokp m28 clocked at 800 MHz / glitch runs smooth. I think this is because of the scrolling cache which I force disabled in from control.
Thanks for your work bringing ics to captivate.
Any way to disable the proximity sensor in this rom? The thing is the cappy i purchased came with that sensor dead.. This makes the phone freeze while making calls for example.. I'm using right now MIUI 2.3.2 Gingerbread 2.3.7 and I can disable it with almost no effort at all..
Thanks in advance
P.S. Check it out the attachment

Have you tried just disabling the rotation power toggle?

Sorry but I don't really see how the rotation would be related to the proximity sensor functionalities. I could try that, but I would be more than grateful if you could explain me a little further the relationship between those two.. Anyways I have to download the rom, nandroid backup, and flash everything to test it out.
Thanks for the reply

you are correct, the proximity sensor does not control rotation. a bit a of a flub on my part sorry.
here are some things I tried with my AOKP rom (don't think the AOSP - CNA is too much different?)
1) There is no setting in the call menu for the proximity sensor.
2) However if you cover your sensor (which is broken anyways right?) a dab of black nail polish, to block all the light from it. I covered my sensor with my thumb and the screen stayed on. However if the problem is deeper within your hardware (possibly the control IC for the sensor), it will still lock up when it tries to access the current state of the sensor.
3) It's possible from what I've found that your sensor is okay, and that there is an internal blockage to the sensor cover. (though, my phone didn't lock up with the sensor covered?). Try canned air/ Vacuum to clear the blockage?
4) There are a several application options as none of the ICS roms I've used appear to have that MIUI option.

GSM Users:
You need to edit the build.prop located in the system folder. Recommend using winrar
/system/build.prop
Once there, you will open the file and edit it using a word processing program of you choice. Notepad is fine.
Use search/find button till you locate something that says this Default network type. # 4 => CDMA
From there change the 4 to a 3.
Then next to it you will see this ro.telephony.default_network=4, change it to 3.
Also change "ro.mot.phonemode.vzwglobalphone=1" to "ro.mot.phonemode.vzwglobalphone=0"
This should work, if it doesn't please tell me so I can try and help!
Thanks to:

That is correct, when hashcode gets it working, I will update, right now I think the biggest issue is the rotation problem which I am currently working on.

techno, you could try working with him and combining your builds or whatever, seems like he's pretty far along too and i think he might have the rotation issue fixed, not sure though, haven't tried it yet personally
it says rotation issue when auto-rotate is turned off, if that's any key to if thats closer than you are on the rotation bit

Thanks for the suggestion, sent him a message on here, it would be great if he could help with the rotation issue! Maybe I could help him with something too!

no problemo, i believe he's also working on a miui port from razr, but the one im seeing the most stuff getting done with is his port from the bionic by insanemod which ironically is the same build you pulled, lol

Haha, seems he has themes working if you flash a zip file which is interesting. I believe he could put those files in the rom file and get it working with one flash, but I will see if I can get it to work in one flash. Having Themes working would be great.
Sparky's port is pretty nice actually; I tested a couple of builds, but keep coming back to AOSP, because I'm familiar with it. Sparky is also experimenting with different bases (AOKP and CM9) for the ROM, to maximize battery life. He could definitely lend some assistance. Nice to see yet another option become available for the D3! Keep up the great work!

I'll make a backup of Gummy, and give this a test run tomorrow so I can give you some more accurate feedback. I'm pretty naive when it comes to MIUI, so maybe you could drop some knowledge on me...is there a way to alter/trick the Market, to show it as Verizon? I use apps like Bank of America throughout the day, and I know the MIUI market doesn't display certain apps. If there's a way to get that done, then I'm all in on MIUI!

Changing the build.prop should fix this for some apps, I would look on there site.

I will do some more research to find a fix for you later today and try a few things that I think will work.
I may be able to use Market Enabler to switch to VZW. I'll give it a shot tomorrow, and report back on how it works, just in case anyone else is in the same position I am. It wouldn't be a big deal if I didn't work in the financial field, but I end up needing access to US and foreign market info throughout the day, so I need a solid solution in order to use MIUI, and take advantage of the excellent features the ROM offers.

It seems that changing the build.prop will make the android market think it is a different phone, but I would rather not change that, I would give Market Enabler a try first.
I would look into sparky's port over at droid hive. You two should team up as opposed to have competing MIUI ports (IMO). Based on the bug list alone and my running of his work, he has a few things functioning that you do not.
The rotation issue I brought to his attention is that when auto rotation is OFF, it should only display in landscape if the phys keyboard is opened, but it does not. It stays locked in portrait.

also meant to say, i already have fix/solution for the theme folder, but he has not incorporated, I'm not sure why...

What is your fix? I already sent him a message on xda, but he didn't reply yet. I didn't know someone else made an MIUI rom for Droid 3 otherwise I would not have made this one, but since I did, I will continue to work on it. Maybe me and him can team up.

Not sure how I stumbled onto this page, but I am currently using IsaneMod's MIUI port for the Bionic right now, and I had this same problem. A few apps would not appear on the Market, acting as if they were not compatible for the Bionic. I got so frustrated, I flashed another ROM to get all my apps back. Well after missing MIUI on my phone, I flashed it again, thinking I could live without those few apps for a while. Well, I ended up accidentally fixing the market issue. For some reason, I thought you had to flash a Google Apps .zip after flashing the MIUI Rom, so I did. But I was actually incorrect as the Google Apps are a part of the ROM, but when flashed G-apps, I flashed what was supposed to be for an ICS ROM instead, but when I booted up my phone, my market had the apps I was once missing. However, I also lost a few icons for certain apps on my phone. Like the MIUI browser app was gone, and I had the ICS browser app instead; and a few other apps did this as well. They all still worked, but flashing the G-apps from that ICS ROM accidentally fixed my market issues. Yes, it was an unnatural way to fix the problem, but if you can find such a file to flash for MIUI on your phone, it may just fix the problem like mine did - as long as you can live without a few MIUI themed app icons. That is, until this problem is solved a more natural way. Anyways, just thought you might want to try this if you want MIUI on your phone but also need your important apps. I hope I was helpful. Good luck!
fyi, for the themes zip that you have to flash for Sparky's ROM, I did that and applying themes works for the most part...the text is sometimes messed up if the theme has a black text and when applying a theme to the Message app, it only changes the theme when you go into a conversation with somebody, not the inbox AND the conversation like it should
and somtimes the placement of things is a little off, like for the lockscreen i use the slider should be in the middle, but it is off to the left a little bit, probably a screen res issue or something from the port

Thanks, I already tried it and noticed the same thing, you should not have to flash a .zip for it to work though so I was looking for other solutions. I have just got to be missing something.
