[ROM] BakaMod V1 (2.2.1 KD1) - Froyo's Last Stand - Vibrant Android Development

BakaMod V1 - Froyo's Last Stand (2.2.1 KD1)
Built on the theory that LESS is MORE. This is a MINIMALIST Rom. It uses the most up to date Froyo base I could find. Why not Ginger? Well... battery.. GPS.. there are reasons to stick with Froyo IF you want reliability, speed and long life.
The battery on this rom is PHENOMENAL!
There will not be any updates to this ROM. I built it as a learning excercise, and while I think it is pretty stable, there are a couple few issues (all documented in this post) that I'm not prepared to deal with. Take it for what you will, if anybody wants to use this to do their own work and fix the issues, feel free, no credit required!
BASE: T959VUVKD1 from the SGS 4G by drhonk
FEATURES:
Removed tons of bloat. Didn't ADD my own bloat.
Accurate Battery Mod
Cianbreadish Status Bar
Simplified Boot Animation
GPS/Speed/Zipalign/Build Prop tweaks
Loopy Smoothness Tweak
No Full Battery Alert
No T-Mobile boot or shutdown sounds/animation.
6 Lockscreen/Power Menu Mod
KB1 Modem - Cuz I got great battery life.
Yes I know what Baka means. I use the term affectionately.
KERNEL: Bali-X 1.2
LAUNCHER: NemusLauncher
GPS
Should work perfectly as do all Froyo ROMs. I got a very quick lock (under 10 seconds) on first boot with this setup, with 10 satellites.
LAUNCHER
I went out on a limb including a relatively unheard of launcher. However, I find it to be a very lightweight and responsive launcher. A little different than you may be used to, it defaults to manual sorting of apps. To change this behaviour, from the app drawer, select Menu->MainMenu Style->Alphabetical, and it will go to vertical scrolling alphabetically.
KNOWN ISSUES
1. Apps2SD - KD1 assumes you want apps on the SDCard, even if the app doesn't prefer that location. Can cause issues. Only apps that explicitely block being installed to SD get installed to Phone Memory.
2. Wifi Calling - Not ported and probably won't be.
3. 4G Icon - I didn't notice it was still in the theme. Rest assured, your phone hasn't been granted magical 4G capability.
4. Locales: I won't be porting these. Looks like a nightmare, and unless this ROM becomes popular (which it won't), there's not much benefit.
5. Camera - It has the FFC button, but I'm not sure if the FFC works without additional hacking. Haven't tried it, I don't have an FFC.
INSTALL
The usual - flash from CWM. If you have issues, WIPE FIRST. Does not require any special boot loaders. Nothing to see here.
GET BLOATED
View the BLOAT on my website here: http://tsukaima.net/KD1Bloat/ and download whatever is missing that you want. Drop the missing junk into /system/app via ADB or Root Explorer, and feel re-bloated! Do note that these Bloats are for KD1 only!
Any other Google Bloat can be gotten from the market.
DOWNLOAD
http://www.multiupload.com/IW8EV3BT9X
NOTE:
I pulled the default Undervolt version. The only difference is it included the config file that you can generate using the Voltage Control app. It also crapped out some phones. I did this rather than a 1.1 release. After what appeared to be stable testing of the 1.1 release with only minor changes, it suddenly went crashy and bootloopy. Probably due to changes in the startup scripts, those things are touchy.
So... consider this the first and last release of BakaMod. Why? Well, there are some issues with KD1 that were never resolved, such as its installing apps to SD Card regardless of app preferences, as well as a few other minor issues that I'm just not prepared to address. As is, it is a usable ROM, but I plan to spend my energy elsewhere and let this release stand for what it is, which is actually a pretty usable 2.2.1.

Baka? Maybe you should change the name...Baka is Japanese for idiot/ stupid...

Not at this time. I'm not sure what all is involved in porting over the wifi calling app. If there's much interest in the ROM itself, I may take a look at that as well.

Well I used my personal hosting for it rather than one of those silly click-through-everything and wait hosts... so resuming shouldn't have been an issue. Hopefully they didn't lie when they said unlimited bandwidth LOL...

Would it be okay to edit the build.prop and add the tweaks from Master&Slave's thread through 7zip or something like that?

I think you'd have to re-sign the zip if you did that. It might be better just to pull the existing one with adb and then push it back, or use root explorer.
The reason I didn't include the 3G tweaks from his thread, are that they are typically more or less helpful for each user depending on the local network conditions.

Been meaning to odin to JFD myself... have wanted to pull the framework from it to make an Eclair theme for nostalgia purposes LOL...

Phone is about to boot! Voodoo just got done activating...nice boot animation reminds me of the stock Mytouch 3g one lol I always adored that for some reason. Now I got to wait until 3:30 (midwest) to reboot ugh
I was just on JFD two days ago because I just got off of CM7 to flash DMZ and I JFD'd to flash this ROM as well time consuming, but I think its worth it...

When I boot up my phone it boots up first it boots then it has to boot over again 0.o hard to explain, but at first my phone wouldn't get signal then I had to reboot again (after the initial one) now everything is fine and I'm gonna dive into this ROM.

Odd, not sure why it would double boot... Mine hasn't done that and I've flashed this several times tweaking everything. Maybe it is due to the recent ODIN? Or are you still on GB boot loaders maybe? If it continues to act up, it could be due to undervolting... I took a risk including that by default, but I think most phones can handle the settings I included. If not, I'll update it and let people undervolt via the market app, but in my experience it's a little daunting to be setting that up yourself for most people.

[ROM] Blackhole 1.2 Beta (JK6) now available in ROM Manager 12/20

Per what I've read in the town hall meeting summary I'm making a new topic for this new version. If this isn't what I should be doing please let me know.
Blackhole 1.2 Beta (JK6)
I know it's been a while since my last update, but I hope this one is worth the wait. I have integrated power options into the default theme, and hopefully been able to fix the media issues, but I haven't gotten confirmation from any testers yet. Please post any issues you have with this ROM here, or on the error reporting thread at www.androiddoes.net/sonofskywalker3.
This ROM is now downloadable through ROM Manager, alongside version 1.1, so you can revert if you have problems with the update.
thanks skywalker. I finally got it to pop up in rom manager?!! don't know how, But am happy to see your work is still in progress. keep it up and happy holidays to you and yours.
What rom version is this based on? JL4?
OP updated to show this is a JK6 ROM. thanks.
Great, Thanks!
Ok I just flashed this with eugene's io kernel. So far almost everything seems great. I could run benchmarks with this version and it seems really fast. My haptic feedback isn't working at all, which doesn't bother me too much but I thought I should mention it. I dont know if this is rom related or market related but when I try to go to my apps in the market it gives me a server error but I can download new apps and data seems to work great everywhere else. I installed the new market to see if it would fix it, but it was the same and I flashed the jl4 modem and it didn't fix it either. Also is the gingerbread boot animation supposed to just be a bunch of static? Everything else is great and snappy. I was looking forward to this for awhile! Thanks!

Haptic feedback may be related to the kernel, have you tried flashing the jk6 stock kernel? let me know.
I'm not sure what's up with the market issue, but i'll look into it. also could you send me a link to the new market so i can update it in the rom?
Lastly, yes, the gingerbread bootanimation is a joke by Hardcorepooka, it's just designed to mess with your head a bit
Edit: also, if you're in the mood for testing, make a playlist of a few songs/videos and see if it freezes after 1 or keeps playing now.
Just saw this on Droid-Life: http://www.droid-life.com/2010/12/20/anyone-else-experiencing-market-issues/ so for the moment i'm going to label the previously mentioned market issues as officially "Not my fault"
Hey I would be happy to do some testing in a little bit. However I am on my way to the airport now to pick up some family. Which actually lead to another issue. I downloaded maps from the market and navigation doesn't work out just gets stuck on checking navigation availability. I needed navigation so I had to flash axura back at a gas station and it was working. Market issues were the same in axura though so yeah must be a market issue. When I get home I can do some testing though and if no one gets you the new marley by then I'll get the link for you. Thanks again

thats funny because i get a shutdown animation but no bootup animation. i do get sound when i bootup though. i chose the blackhole boot animation and i have the JK6 stock kernel which i heard isnt compatible with the custom boot animations. so i dunno. kinda sucks but the rom is great so im not complaining. i dont reboot that often anyway
also when i try to choose "Download ROM" and then choose "Sonofskywalker3" i get this message "Error occurred while processing the ROM list!" when i choose "Extras" i can see the two Superuser options (though they are grayed out) not sure if thats a problem on your end or with new ROM Manager since i had to update again. i dont know how these lists work exactly so i dont know where the problem could be

To reduce the size of the rom I removed the default boot animation video, so if you don't have a compatible kernel it will remain blank and play the audio. Shutdown animations work regardless of the kernel. I'll see if I can't figure out how to enable the custom bootanimations on the stock kernel. Haven't done any kernel hacking before, should be fun.

Just had a chance to test mine this afternoon and it was working. Took a minute to see any satellites in GPS Test but after sitting for 2-3 minutes, all of a sudden it saw and started using 9 satellites and maps had a fix as soon as I launched it.

[Q] Some questions about CM7

Hi all,
With CM7 i'm enjoying my Milestone like never before. But since it's my first custom ROM, i have some questions though.
1. When returning to the home screen, 9 out of 10 times it reloads and rebuilds completely. How can i avoid this?
2. If it's a memory issue and i want to keep it in memory, how can i accomplish this without the risk of losing other essential apps from memory, like SMS and phone?
3. I read something about priorities for apps, how does this work?
4. Sometimes my device reboots randomly. My CPU is set to 900. Can this be the cause? If so, what's the best CPU speed setting?
So far for now, but i guess i'll be back with some more ;-)
Thanks in advance,
Gerard

I'm no expert so someone please correct me if i'm wrong and sorry for all spelling errors.
What version of CM7 are you running? If u'r running RC3 0.08-11.03.16 that homescreen Redraw (problem number 1) should be minor, something like 1 out of 10 times, atleast on my milestone. There is "Keep home in memory" setting in Cyanogenmod settings -> Performance, make sure it's enabled and for the problem number 2 enable "Keep SMS in memory". You shouldn't care much about app priorities cause CM7 memory management is taking care of that pretty well. Random reboot are DSI errors, they are minor in the newest CM7 version but there is no failsafe way to avoid them, if you don't want to chance the kernel, you can read about that in CM7 for milestone thread.
Thanks, i just can't find the "keep SMS in memory" option?
Then you probably won't have the newest version of CM7. You can find it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=941346 and flash it just like u flashed it at the first time. Just wipe cache and dalvik cache from open recovery and you will get to keep all your personal settings and files/apps.
That's the one i have and i already found it. But thanks again!

A few answers of my own:
1) The CPU speed is probably NOT the cause of your reboots, but if you want to be sure, try it for a week. 700 is safer, 550 is default.
2) If it is your CPU overclocking, you may be able to fix it by upping the voltage on your overclock. This will lead to a bit more heat and a bit more battery drain, but should fix the reboots if CPU related
3) I would look at the SUPERCHARGE your Milestone thread about memory management settings. Although Zepps's settings and scripts are meant for tweakers and are probably a tad aggressive if you don't know what you are doing, they did speed up my phone by 200%.
I would recommend installing AutoMemoryManager and using the mild settings if you want to do something less aggressive than the Supercharge scripts...
You will get some of the benefits of the supercharge and a very low risk of apps getting killed by the memory manager.
My 2 cents!
thanks caz.
I'm pretty sure the new minfree settings that I've been testing out are the best of both worlds... superfast and background friendly.
I hadnt had a chance to update the thread yet and post the new script.
But for those interested, this should really work great... 6, 8, 24, 26, 28, 30.
Thanks all, i'll look into those things. By reading that is, because i've got a lot to learn!
Hi all,
I'm still experimenting and impressed by this ROM. Just now I performed a fix permissions to prevent apps from fc. That modified the read & write permissions of all apps. I assumed it couldn't hurt to try, but now I'm wondering what it did exactly. There aren't any noticable changes. Can anyone fill me in?
Thanks,
Gerard

My 2 bigs problem with froyomod are the camera that often FC and freeze and the video that are stuttering so much..
I can move to CM7 only if I'm sure that this stuff work well!

[Q] turn old hero to apod?

i have cdma hero laying around after upgrade... i was wondering how hard it would be to make a rom stripped of all cell phone functions... basically turning the hero into an android ipod...
Now that would be freakin sweet!! I've been wondering the same thing.
I am thinking about doing this too. All you would need to do is freeze the phone with tb, turn off data, and delete bloat.
Hell yeah. I'm gonna buy one of those extended batteries and make this my video and mp3 device.
Is there a way to just strip those features from a nightly build so it can be flash ready?
lol.. ironically this is the exact same thing i was thinking of doing with my hero.. i have an arm band that it fits nicely into, that i know the 3d wont, so when running or mowing i would have to use the hero for my music.. great minds people, great minds..

As far as I know you would have to do some editing of code so that it is not trying to load any phone features. If you just remove those it will give you FC errors everytime. I'm going to look into it since I am not completely sure what I am going to do with mine. If I get something working I'll post it up for everyone.
I strip the phone features from all of my Nook roms pre-flashing and haven't had any negative effects so far. I know this isn't a Nook, but still worth a shot.

You think modifying the current ROMs for the Hero can be done in a similar fashion? How did you do it? Resources? I wanna try too.
Do you know how freezing an app works? It makes it disappear from the OS. You could hide the status bar with a launcher. Kill data with cm. You would still have wifi, gps, etc. If uncorrupted builds a rom without these things that would be cool though. I just dont know how you would get past the android setup without the phone stuff.
Edit: for those intending to do this. I would highly recommend using cm based roms. it has the long press volume when screen off fit media next/prev. And you can always display lock screen music controls. Also, I have been remapping my phone button for pause/play for months, seems fitting for a non phone apod. Button remapper works like a charm.

Sorry for the lack of specifics.... il Duce is probably correct in saying stripping the roms of phone features is not the best way for most people to go and keep in mind that the nook is not a phone and doesn't have an IMEI #. I also do not use Gapps with the roms that I strip, I run them as complete stand alones using recources like k9 mail, calengoo, Amazon App Store, and importing my contacts from the sd. There is also almost no performance gain in doing this....My motivation is that the Nook's recovery kernel is decidedly sub-par, so if I can stip 30 MB of fat from a 95 MB rom before I flash it I can save a ton of time flashing, making nands, restoring nands, and booting. That being said if anyone plans on trying this, I'm curious to know how it works out. After all, at some point I'm going to upgrade this thing.
Just Curious.... Cant the phone just be used as is with the Firerats Tweek to gain more memory, then use RootExplorer to Delete All the Widgets, Gmail, Mms, Calendar, and whatever other Bloatware?

I got most of it done. Just need to add some things back in and edit some things. Works fine, but I can't go that long with out a working phone, so I'll get it done in the next couple of days.
Almost everything is removed. Kept some basic things..
Camera, Calculator, Browser, Market, SU, and a couple for media.
Removed all extra home screens and the taskbar is hidden. It's still uses ADW, but the launcher dock is removed.

Why use Firerats? I think total I just got it down to 50 Mb or so. It might be less. I have nothing else to do while counting down the day's till the 24th. Don't really want to tweak my phone anymore or flash a new ROM.

Well I guess if you got it down that Low you Wouldn't have to use the Firerats, but I was Suggesting Firerats because if someone Didn't want to Strip their Rom Down Firerats might just give them enough room to use the phone basically As Is!

@pmgrands - I dont think you can use internal memory for music, so I don't know what your getting at?
@uncorrupted - what rom/kernel is your base?

What do people want from a custom 2.2 ROM?

Hi. After trying Honeystreak 2.0, I fell in love with the 120 screen density. However, I know since some people may not want to upgrade to Honeystreak for some reason or another, or just like Froyo more than Honeycomb, I am working on modding the stock 2.2 ROM to use a lower screen density, giving it more of a tablet feel.
So, I've already lowered the screen density to 120 (I can use 130 or 140 if people prefer) and I am trying a few different launchers (I saw a stock Froyo launcher in an Evo 4G thread, it if looks good, I might use that, to get more of a stock Android experience) because Dell Stage does not look good if you change the density. I might to a couple build.prop edits, to make it feel smoother, and I plan on removing or adding apps (it's already root, so Superuser and Root Explorer will be included.)
If anyone has any requests for apps to add or remove, any advice that might help, or anything else useful, please feel free to tell me.
Also, since this uses the 2.2 kernel, this should be flashable through CWM, which is the main reason I am making it. Basically, it'll be stock Froyo, on the stock kernel, designed to feel more like a tablet.
Since this is more of a discussion than a ROM release, being that it's not out yet, if this would be better in general, mods can feel free to move it
EDIT: So, here are the changes from stock Froyo: Dell Stage has been replaced with Launcher Pro (set to display a 6x6 icon grid), it's pre-rooted and comes with Super User and Root Explorer, the build.prop has been edited for a 130 screen density, less frequent scanning for a wifi network (to save battery), and smoother scrolling and scaling. I want to find a user agent that enables all market apps, and remove some bloatware.
Love launcher pro, if you could theme it like ginger bread that would be awesome too.

I don't think the free verison of LauncherPro is themable, but I can probably install a Gingerbread themed launcher as an alternative.
More a kernel than a ROM thing, but I want tun.ko, and I know some others want CIFS.. I'm really missing using OpenVPN on my DS7, as it's the only way I can sync my Google account at work on wifi without tethering to my phone.
Why go back to froyo? rooted gingerbread with cwm density 120 would be nice.....

lol. It's Froyo because, unlike DJ_Steve, I am not awesome enough to port anything else. Modding the OS it comes with is alot easier than making a new one
Anyways, I am basically using Build.prop and adding/removing APK's to make it feel more like a tablet. Then, I'm going to create a zip using CWM or something.
I would like it to be fast and swift with no bloat wear and also support for swapper 2

Send dj steve some dr dre beats headset funds and im sure he will let you use his gingerbread and then you can mod it with cwm and change density and maybe add overclocking lol
Try Zeam Launcher. It's pretty simple, but free and you can customise the rows/columns and such to make it more tablet-like.
I'd like to see overclock, black notification bar, and improved battery life. If there's anything that can be done to make Cell Standby not such a hog (way more battery goes to this over my Galaxy Tab), that would be awesome.
Well, as far as improved battery life, for the WiFi version, the cell apk's will be disabled by default, and I did a build.prop edit that scans for open wifi networks less frequesntly, so if WiFi is on but not connected, you drain less battery scanning. I've tried changing the Browser user-agent in build.prop, but when I went to whatismyuseragent or whatever that site is, even though it said I was using Mozilla 5, it still knew it was Android, so I'm looking for a way to better spoof a PC, so mobile sites aren't viewed by default. As far as editing cell standby or overclocking, I might get DJ_Steves Streakdroid 1.3 build, and then apply my changes to that, so you get the overclocking kernel, but that would mean taking away Bluetooth. Also, I'm still trying to figure out how to rip the ROM with clockwork - if I just make a backup, it checks the MD5, so it won't work for someone else.

Lol. 2 problems. First, if he had a Gingerbread ROM, I think he would've released it. Second, if I had a pair of Beats, I'm keeping those 300 dollar headphones for myself
things to add
A couple of major things to have would be :
1) a modified wpa supplicant file to allow tethering to adhoc (pm me if u need it)
2) any basic file explorer
3) a working overclock
4) vtl launcher - xda flavor
Just a few for thought

Ugh. Don't insult our only dev by mentioning insanely overpriced, terrible headphones.
There are several features that I am used to on CM7 that I miss daily on my tablet. Primarily, the notification power widget and the ability to swipe to clear notifications. Also, being able to select the rotation angles available would be handy.
Would be nice but might be a bit much: Automatic backlight level adjustments and lockscreen tweaks.

Oh god yes, I am going crazy without it! How do you get rid of a single notification if you dont want to open the app? For example, when downloading updates from the market. I love the ability to swipe swipe swipe, open, swipe. I have never once accidentally dismissed something I didnt want to, so I dont see how it could be even remotely annoying.
For me it seems like the most intuitive solution.

Options: the beauty of Android. I second the swipe to clear a single notification idea.
I wish I could do that. I'm basically just using APK's and build.prop tweaks to get it how I want it. I don't know enough about programming for Android to do anything interesting :-/
Basically, as of now (and untill I figure out how to rip the ROM for public upload) it's a lower screen density, some build.prop tweaks for smoother scrolling and better battery life, running on rooted Froyo. It's pretty basic :-/

FAQ:
[Q] Pons, why are you compiling your own? Why don't we get official CM10.1 goodness?
[A] Well, now, why don't you take a gander at this: CyanogenMod: CM 9+, N1 (and other S1 SoC)
[Q] Gee, Pons, this here looks fun. How do I compile it myself?
[A] Here ya go, lil guy. Just follow these instructions: How to Compile CM10.1 for the Inc (if you encounter any issues using this to compile, please report here so I can troubleshoot and update if need be)
[Q] Why did you disappear?
[A] Long story short, my computer broke right before I went on a business trip. Now I'm stuck on a side of mountain, but only have a 256kbps internet, which has a lot of filters on it (I actually can't download from Goo.im; I have to ssh into my profile to download.)
[Q] Well, that doesn't sound pleasant. Are you back for good?
[A] Maybe, maybe not. Some good people are allowing me to use their build box, so that's how I'm maintaining right now. I'll keep it up, till I get moved again, or they decide to revoke my access.
[Q] Oh. That's cool. Onto what really matters: how often are you going to update?
[A] Will shoot for weekly, or bi-weekly (if major changes come out). The internet is painfully slow, and I don't want to abuse the build bot access I was given. Or until I move or get revoked access.
Credits/Thanks
All credit goes to Cyanogen and the rest of the CM team, and especially our HTC Incredible maintainers, as listed by the CyanogenMod site: jistone (aka CUViper/This Guy), slayher, and of course, koush. Of course, don't forget about the Evervolv team, who have given our outdated qsd8k device a lot of love, despite being dropped by CM.
In addition, tiny4579 for his incredikernel, and for helping with my builds while I'm away.
For some reason, I have received several requests to put a donation link in my profile. You can always donate to the CyanogenMod project or the Evervolv project, but if you feel you HAVE to donate to me, I've put a link in my profile, and all donations will go towards upgrading my computer, so I can stay on top of this for CM10.2/11/and beyond.
Footnote: This thread is a WIP. I will probably restructure it and try to make it look pretty, and I might add a Q&A thread, depending on how many inane and repetitive questions I get that take away from development. I also didn't include any Launcher screen shots, since that is the easiest thing to change and theme. And I see that people have already tried the ROM, since I have 4 downloads so far, and 1 was me. Thoughts/problems?
Reserved....
Particularly let me know if there are any crippling bugs (or bugs period) that differ from what is listed as the known issues, and from tiny's.
Also, any issues with the embedded Superuser? It has had minimal testing, despite being put together by a ninja coder, Koush, and that is one reason it has not made it into CM10.1 Nightlys.
Great to have you back Pons. I'm having zero issues the new su. It seems to boot a little faster.

It should boot a tiny bit faster, as well as su access being better/quicker. It's now an integrated part of Settings, as opposed to a separate app.
Bear in mind that Superuser is still a work in progess. Superuser and binary itself have 0 issues (that I can tell) as far as granting, prompting, denying, etc, but the app needs a little UX work. For instance, go into Settings > Superuser. Click the little icon at the very bottom, this opens up the log. Click the icon in the bottom left, and this does nothing. Koush is aware of these issues, and will correct them when he gets around to it. I'm more interested in if it (or Settings) FC, or if something is not getting root.
A user said:
there seems to be some UX inconsistency in the app. When i click on the log button it brings me into the log, which is fine. However, the button immediately becomes redundant in that said screen. It has no function whatsoever.
Also, i thought there should be a back function tied to the icon so that i can return to the main screen... no?

Is there a way someone could work on the offline voice to text ? Is this going to replace tinys cm10.1 ROM ? Nice work!
Completely wiped phone, EMMC, SD. Took the opportunity to install TWRP, and had a blast playing around with it (used your .zip from that thread). Installed this ROM and Tiny's 2/7/13 GAPPS.
I'm not sure what issues will pop up from the flash-over crowd, but clean install was a flawless process. You guys keep giving me reasons to carry this phone. Well played, by everyone involved.

If you make enough room in the system partition and copy the correct libraries into the gapps zip before flashing offline dictation should work. It does on Tiny's, at least.
Out of curiosity, is there about significant difference between this and Tiny's? Pretty much just superuser?

As far as the end user is concerned? There's that and the status bar battery mod, one of my favorite tweaks since my CM7 days. I don't know exactly what tiny throws in his, but I put in a couple of security hardening picks that most/all users won't notice or feel.

Probably not. Tiny and I generally work together to make CM10.1 better for the Inc. I opened this thread because I can compile and tweak stuff when tiny's busy, but I can't really test it myself. I don't have data, wifi, or gps on my phone where I'm at, and it takes me 3-5 hours to download each ROM. So I opened this to get a wider range of testers.

It works if you put the files into place, just like on Tiny's ROM. I modified Tiny's gapps, removed some stuff I didn't want and added in the offline files. I still have to delete some stuff from the ROM to make room for the offline files, so my gapss aren't share-worthy. But it works for me.

Never really used it. From what I remember, though, it's a kernel tweak that chad put in. Tiny forked his tree, so unless tiny reverted the commit (which I doubt), it should still be in there (internet is way too slow for me to go digging around randomly). As for how to verify it's working, I completely forget. I'm vaguely sure a way does exist beyond watching it charge quickly, but can't remember.

Fastcharge is definitely an option in the kernel that ships with the ROM. It's off by default but the free incredicontrol can enable it. The only thing it does is enable the full charge speed for USB connections which is risky if it comes from a PC as the PC USB ports are only designed for 500mah of current. I've done it safely and i actually have fastcharge USB on by default on my inc but I still have to throw out the warning to be careful.
As far as verifying there are a few ways:
1. Check the value of /sys/kernel/fast_charge/fast_charge_usb. It's 1 for on and 0 for off.
2. Monitor mA current on USB charging and if it's over 500 mA then fast charge USB is working.
3. Check the kernel log in terminal ater plugging the phone into a USB connection, it should report switch charger (Fast) at the bottom.
su
dmesg | grep "Switch charger"
I am a big fan of fastcharge. Although battery health could be a factor, I am suspicious that both fastcharge and DSP manager have gone the way of budweiser served in Utah. My power supply used to get scorching hot and I could get a green light from empty in about 2 hours on the 3500 battery. Now I use the stock battery and it takes at least about 3 hours or longer to get it charged. DSP Manager still works, is much more subtle. I have had to resort to using a second eq app alongside DSP Manager to get levels right.

Work is ramping up, and so is school. No time to actually do more than minor tinkering, so thread is more or less redundant of tiny's. On that note, closed. I'll still try to push out weekly builds (tiny said I could post in his thread whenever I had a build), but no promises.
