Changed Start menu layout and can't access start menu anymore, help please ?!? - Imagio ROM Development

Imagio Energy Rom GTX theme
I was trying to see what the menu layouts look like, changed to a few then chose windows layout and damn.
Please help I really don't want to flash my phone plus I can't access anything to save contacts messages etc.
When I attempt to start the start menu I see "start" on the top left but no menu.
I'm running the original windows layout

Try to conect your phone to pc and go windows/start menu and try to repair the links.
If you you want to save your contacts and messages go to root directory and copy the pim file to PC and then "hard reset" your phone.
I hope this will help.

I'll donate $5 (paypal) to anyone who helps me through this

how do I exactly go on about repairing links
I can't access root directory neither..
the start menu responds but doesn't show on screen
maybe if someone can take some screen shots of the steps, i can blindly change the layout
OR IS THERE ANYWAY TO FORCE SENSE INSTEAD OF WINDOWS

No donation needed to solve this problem.
Another way is to conect your pc via usb and then you will be able to access the /windows/start menu. There you will access the program links and you must try to corect them....
again via usb conection you find on the root of your divice the file pim.vol take a copy of it to your pc because this file is contacts, tasks e.g. and after that make hard reset of your device.... Follow this guide.
""If a soft reset doesn’t solve problems with the HTC Imagio phone, you can perform a hard reset. This will wipe all data off the phone and restore factory default settings.
While the phone is off, press and hold Volume Down + Talk/Send + End/Power.
When the device displays a message about wiping the data, release all 3 buttons.
Press Volume Up to complete the hard reset.""
If you continue to have problem PM me to give you more help via MSN or Skype.

Blue Angel & Tuma 1.3

Hello!
First of all, I'm a newb
I've been using Tuma 1.3 for a while and suddenly, I got this message:
Storage memory is critically low. If you do not increase memory, you may not be able to start some programs. Use File Explorer to delete files you no longer need, or move some files to a storage card.
Click to collapse
That been said I did not install new apps, copied new files, etc...
Still, I tried to search for any unusual bigger file but found nothing.
Tried a hard reset but it remained the same.
So my final approach would be upgrading to a new rom/downgrading to the latest official rom.
Guess what, since then I can't seem to connect to ActiveSync, Windows still recognizes the device, ActiveSync tries to connect to device but with no success.
I've read the hole wiki, and searched the forums but found nothing.
Is there a way to do some kind of full format? Or is there a way to upgrade the rom without ActiveSync?
Any advice?
Thanks in advance, best regards.
João 'tehCORE' Milheiriço
You can format the storage by using the hard reset method...
Power Button + Reset Pin
Before ROM didgits appear on screen hold down Camera + Record buttons until options appear on screen...
Use Record button to move to Format Storage option... Use Camera button to change to yes... (You should also format the Registry Hive to get all the way back to the base ROM state)
Press the Mail button to accept...
Your screen will turn white while the format takes place then you'll boot as normal...
dude...
i love you
thank you, it worked like a charm, i owe u one

Problem after installing WM6.1

Hello all,
I have a TyTN II, bought in Switzerland, with a Swiss/French ROM.
Yesturday I had the brilliant idea to upgrade to WM6.1. Bad idea.
Before doing so, I made a full backup using Sprite Backup 5.1, thinking that I would get the best out of WM6.1 with all my current data.
The upgrade to WM6.1 went perfect. When I switched it back on, everything was OK. So I decided to perform a restore using the Sprite software, to get back all my data. During the process I recieve a warning message telling me that the the phone and operating system are not the same as on the backup...oups! I decide to ignore the message and press continue. Sprite does his thing, and the phone restarts. Only problem, it won't go past the HTC welcome logo...
I hard reset it. Start looking around on forums, and for some reason that today I can0t remember, I waste 25$ on the Sprite Backup 6.2 software. I try, but nothing works.
I write an email to Sprite explaining my problem, and here is the answer I get:
Hi guys,
I just bought your newest Sprite Backup product hoping that this would help, but it doesn't look so.
My issue is the following:
I have a HTC TyTN II that was running under WM 6.0 until now. Today I decided to upgrade to the WM 6.1 version. Prior to doing so I made a backup using the Sprite Backup software provided with my phone (on a HTC CD).
The backup went perfect. So I did the WM upgrade, and my phone configured perfect. I tried to restore the information from the backup to my phone. I first received a warning message telling me that this wasn't the phone or the WM version that I was using to create the backup. I thought that I should anyways have a try.
My phone performed the restore, but then wouldn't work. Only the HTC logo appeared and then it froze. Looking at some forums, I saw that a Hard Reset of the phone was advised, so I did it.
After this, still looking around forums i saw that people were talking about the fact that the new Sprite Backup software has this feature about retro compatibility with previous ROM versions. I thought that this would be the solution.
I bought the software and I'm desperately trying to restore the information. The only thing I get is the following error message:
"The selected backup file was created using a different version of Sprite Backup (5.1.0, Build 1449) and is incompatible with your current version (6.2.2, Build 2280)."
Guys, any help will be greatly appreciated, I had some important information on this backup and I would be extremely grateful if you could help me out to solve my problem.
Thank you in advance.
Best regards,
Ostap
Tama McCallum 23/07/2008 1:30:38 p.m.
Dear Ostap,
Thank you for contacting Sprite Software. Unfortunately Sprite Backup itself is not backwards compatible, so to restore your 5.1 backup file, you need to use Sprite Backup 5.1.
To restore please follow these steps;
a) Hard reset your device
b) Place the attached .CAB file onto your device
c) Open the .CAB file using File Explorer
d) Open Sprite Backup
e) Go into Options> Switch to Advanced Mode
f) Go into Options> Restore Options and select Enable Device Upgrade mode
g) Go back to the main menu and choose your desired backup file to be restored
h) Continue with the restoration ignoring any prompts that may arise
If you encounter any errors, please send me the resulting BackupLog.txt file created in the \Temp\Log folder on your device.
Best regards,
Tama McCallum

Unfortunatly her suggestion does not work.
So I start going around the web again, and I find this site, that seems the most efficient and proffesional. I really hope that you will be able to help me out.
Just to finish, and to keep focus, what I really need is ONLY the contact information from my backup/old ROM. Is there a way to extract this information from the file on my PC, or revert back to my old ROM and be sure that the restore will work?
Thank you very much in advance.
Best regards,
Ostap
Look into Flashing from your SD card, and then see if you can find the 6.0 rom is the kaiser wiki. (you should be able to get to all of this through the links in my signature. If you can get back to 6.0 and use the backup I would then try syncing with outlook to backup your contact info. Then flash back to 6.1, sync again and then enjoy 6.1.
Edit: first, hard reset.
Then try this (extracted from the Sprite Backup 6.2.2. helpfile):
"Upgrade Mode
Sprite Backup uses different Restore modes depending on the change in device or Operating System.
To set Upgrade Mode Options follow the instructions below:
From the Sprite Backup main screen, select 'Options'.
From the 'Options' screen, select 'Restore'.
From the 'Restore Options' screen, select 'Upgrade'.
Enable/Disable the settings you require.
Press 'OK' to save the settings or 'Cancel' from the menu.
The 'Help' menu item displays this Help file.
Personal Data: Use this option to restore your personal data across different devices or ROM versions. This option will exclude everything except ‘My Documents’ contacts / calendars / tasks / call logs."
When I upgraded (also with a Swiss/French HTC ROM), I could backup all my personal data and then had to manually update my settings and reinstall my programs.
I hope this helps, good luck.

Sounded great, but unfortunatly nothing happened... I've tried this for a few times already.
ChumleyEX:
The problem is that I don't synchronize with Outlook. I use Outlook with my business phone, so the only place I had my contacts was the HTC and now the Backup I can't use.
As a last resort I will indeed follow your instructions about flashing and putting a 6.0 ROM and trying to restore from there.
Before we get there, do you guys have any other ideas?
Thanks!
The contacts are stored in pim.vol located in the root of your device. Try to either restore that file or extract it on your computer and copy it to your phone (if your phone is still stuck at the HTC logo you'll have to hard reset first, of course).
If WM won't let you overwrite your old pim.vol, try this trick (quoted from another post):
try to delete poutlook.lnk from the windows\startup folder
softreset
connect pda to your pc
rename pim.vol to pim2.vol
restore your pim.vol
immediately perform a soft reset
Click to collapse
This could work, provided the data layout of pim.vol hasn't changed in WM6.1.
Edit: You could also try to restore the personal data and then do as the Sprite lady told you, send her the log file. Perhaps they can work it out.
I had a similar problem to the OP. Turned out I'd restored the old Windows folder which of course doesn't work as it's a new version of Windows that came wit the new ROM image. So theanswer was to go reflash the new ROM, restart the restore, check that everything is checked to be restored except the Windows folder. It worked....
pudifoot:
GREAT!!! It worked, just the way the other post describes! It's perfect!
Thank you soooo much to all of you!
Take care.
Ostap
I'm glad it worked out for you!
For future backup and restore of your personal data you might want to check out PIM Backup.
Can't Recover PIM.VOL after hard reset !
Hi ... I have a similar problem.
I hard reset my phone and I saved PIM.VOL, now I'm trying to copy it over, successfuly, but after a soft reset the file reverts to it's new values ... (from a 5mb backup file to a 300kb blank file)
I don't know what to do ... tried safe more, total commander, waiting 60 seconds before reset, resetting imedietly after copy, SPB Backup (restore works but no contacts)
PLEASE HELP !!!
-----
Okay ! found what the problem was !, I installed hebrew support before restoring the contacts, it must have changed the format.
Thanks everybody, love this forum !
-----
Dammit ! I restored the contacts first, then installed the hebrew support and guess what, it all went to hell in a hand basket.
After the hebrew gets installed all the contacts and apointments just disapear !
Well ... what now ? heh ...
I have the same problem as the poster of this thread! But I cant get it to hard reset
I can't get a reset to work. I have nothing vital on the phone. Everything is backed up on SD. I just need a hard reset so I can load everything back manually. My PC doesn't even recognize through usb! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Not sure how to flash from SD but I already have the link to origonal rom saved to PC. Guess I could look into that, but a hard reset would be TONS easier!

Perform a soft reset with stylus, when the screen goes blank hold the camera button until a multi colored screen comes up and then reflash
I know this doesn't help much, but this is why you need to have a backup of the back - making sure it works. Even when you switch from a new rom, more likely you will have to rebuild it from scratch.. (Trust me, I know). It is a pain but in the long run once the rom is built to your prefence, sycing with exchange it a breese and no data is lost.
Your best bet is to take your device into the dealer, tech shop and have them revert back to the rom you were using.
It is always important to write this stuff down ahead of time before flashing..
Good Luck/

Moved: Cannot Unlock/Update SnapVue WM Without Data Service

I have an HTC Shift without a carrier's data service, so I am not able to exploit SnapVue WM using Shiftpack method due to the lack of email without a data connection service. Nor am I able to exploit Snapvue through Internet Conection Sharing method, because that also requires a data connection sevice before showing up in Vista as a shared folder /Pocket_PC. Due to the lack of support for bluetooth, sd card, and WIFI connectivity in Snapvue WM, I am also not able to use these logical methods. Is there any other possible method(s) to unlock or upgrade SnapVue WM?
You don't need a data service. You just need a SIM card. It's harder, but it works. Just setup a fake connection under WM side, and let it try to connect. Use the internet sharing method for that.
Any sim card will work, so you can just borrow one for this.
I have a CDMA version.
I guess you have to wait for a custom rom then.
send me a PM and I can sort you out. (I assume you have SPL 0.14, as all the CDMA shift's I've seen so far)
Hi Guys
I have the same problem where I can not get a data connection. Even with a sim card inserted I can not get vista to see wm. Could it be because my wifi has suddenly disaperd? Any suggestions would be appreciated
Make sure wifi is off when trying this method.
Yes, I thought of that but even if I wanted to turn it on I can't, it is just simply not there, in vista. Even shagcontrol does not turn it on?
Liberate Snapvue the Hard way
I too have a CDMA shift and I librated with the following proceedure and it worked fine for me with no data connection. I will say you may have to do the internet sharing connection and F5 step multiple times before you will see the Icon in my computer to be able to access it but once you do be ready and quick to copy you cab files to the Snapvue side because it will not last forever. last note: if you attempted and still do not get any results check WMDC setting for the allow usb connections and be sure it is set properly
1. Reset SnapVue if you have been hacking it.
- Run Clearstorage.exe (or Settings, Clear Storage)
- Disable Wi-Fi in Vista (Communication Manager)

- Copy "RegistryEditor.exe" to "Pocket_PC,"\" directory.
- Still on Vista side, Using "Communication Manager", Click "Advanced Settings" and then "Reset Snapvue". Click OK.
- Switch to snapvue and wait for it to start up. If you miss the warning to allow running "RegistryEditor.exe", don't worry - click setting, Start Menu, Programs, File Explorer, then navigate to Windows, StartUp and run it from there.
- In RegistryEditor.exe, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, Services. Delete the "SnapVue" entry. Click and hold the "SnapVue" entry until the context-sensitive menu appears, then select delete.
- Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Cabfile\Shell\Open\command and change the default value to wceload.exe "%1" /nodelete - there is a space after the .exe and before the /nodelete here
- Close RegistryEditor.exe.
- In File Explorer, delete the PKG.exe and BlockTitleBar.exe files from the Windows\StartUp directory.
- Switch back to Vista and reset snapvue from Communications Manager's Advanced Settings.
- Switch back to SnapVue. When it has finished starting up and you have closed RegistryEditor, you will notice that you have the start menu at the top left of the screen.
- Tidy up - reset and delete "Start Menu" from the "Windows, Settings" directory

Hello, after installing the thinking have all the options I find myself with a factory or SnapVUE I can not install USBTOOL therefore impossible for me to change again the rom I really hate .. .! So be very careful with you. If a super installer is in the corner to help me install a new rom without going through the usual procedure will be welcome. Otherwise the shift is really great.

Pat yourself on the back! You have successfully converted the HTC shift's SnapVue to WM6.
2a. Enable all the hidden "Today" items
- Switch to WM6
- Click "Start Menu (icon at top left of screen), Programs, Internet Sharing"
- Click "Connect". The screen will say "Check USB cable.". Switch over to Vista and make sure that you have a network connection.
If not - go to Vista Connection Manager and stop and start the modem.
- go back to snapview disconnect and then connect again
- switch back to Vista
- Switch back to snapvue and click disconnect.
- Switch back to Vista and open Windows Explorer. From the "Computer" level, keep pressing F5 until you see Pocket_PC.
- In Vista, install and run ceregedit_setup.exe
- Press F1 to connect to WM6
- Use Tools, Unlock Registry to enable the import
- Use Edit, Import to import "today.reg". Ignore any errors.
- Close ceregedit
- Switch to WM6
- In "Start Menu, Settings, Today, Items", pick the today items you want to display.
3. Change the display resolution to 96 dpi (BE SURE THAT THE CHECK BOX FOR DISABLE PHONE SKIN IS CHECKED)
A word of warning - this version of RealVGA is English and does not work very well with non-English systems.
- If you have a non-English version of the Shift, then you will not have a directory called \Windows\StartUp. Before doing the rest of this section, you should create a "StartUp" directory in your Windows directory and copy all of the files from your language equivalent of StartUp.
- Copy "RealVGA_11.CAB" and "ResPack96dpi.ARM.CAB" to "Pocket_PC,"\" directory.
- Switch over to WM6
- From File Explorer (Start Menu, Programs, File Explorer), navigate to the top directory (using Up button as necessary)
- Install RealVGA_11.CAB accepting the security warning
- Install ResPack96dpi.ARM.CAB accepting the security warning and select ok to restart the system
- Run RealVGA from Start Menu, Programs
- Change to 96dpi and press OK and wait while the system restarts
- Tidy up - Using "Start Menu, Settings, System, Remove Programs" remove WM6_RealVGA (its job is done)
- In File Explorer, delete the 2 CAB files.

Trashed Snapvue
I ran the CustomRuu from the zip file you posted, and managed to get into a loop where Windows Mobile will not boot. I can get into the bootloader with tools I downloaded on XDA, but have not found a ROM that will install without an error. Do you have a CDMA compatible ROM or even the original ROM that comes with the device. Will dive into the box to see whats on the disks next.
Need help though.
the orginal rom should be included in the zip folder
ShiftCDMAFLASH is the folder that I flashed (successfully) that left me in bootloader (three color screen).
RUUNBh is in the upper middle of the screen
CLI 0200
SPL 0.14.000
appear below, and USB in a white box appears below that.
The ShiftCDMAFLASH.zip file contains a different nbh rom file from the folder above, but I cannot get past 0% on the loader screen. I have used ecshift.exe -bl to get back in bootloader mode and hard resetted the Windows mobiel side, but no luck yet. Any suggestions ? +
just give it time
The 0.19 nbh file give a 262 error
On the other hand I can flash the 1.14.651.1 Rom with no trouble but I reboot (even after a hard reset) into the tri color screen with USB on the screen as listed above. Stalled in this mode.
Any other options ? or roms that might work. The GSM roms on XDA also crash out so I am locked in the 1.14.651.1 bootloader mode.....grrrr.
Is there another option I am missing ? I also tried the Snapvue reset program for Vista from the HTC website
Snapvue Software version 1.14.651.1
Snapvue Software version 1.14.651.1 is the one that I installed on my CDMA shift and now cannot get out of bootloader screen (tricolor) despite hard resetting the WM side. I am able to reflash the above listed rom with no errors. But still end up in the bootloader screen.
No other posted rom on XDA will load (probably due to GSM/CDMA differences). Do you have an alternative CDMA rom I could use or is there a way to get out of the bootloader and force WM to load that I am missing ?
use mtty should be posted on site
Used mtty
Thanks. I had been usimg mtty. I can successfully hard reset but WM boots back into the tri color bootloader screen following hard reset. lol. Still stuck. Thanks for the suggestion though.
now do ecshift mode 0 then mode reset

Thanks, I have been doing all of the above. Restarts into the tricolor screen. I can reformat with the rom you provided. Still tricolor on hard reset. Something in the rom is preventing wm from loading. Anything else left to do ?
I am probably going to need to give up. The snapvue side is toast. Unless there is someone with the original CDMA Rom out there willing to post online (even HTC) I do not think I can make this work.
Original CDMA ROM
Hello, I had exactly the same problem, my SnapVue stood in bootloader...
CMONEX gave me a ROM for CDMA Shift (I think is the original), it worked for me
you can download it from here:
http://srmpro.gas.pemex.com/video/R....30.00_1.33_PRL60711_SHIP_MO_Disable_PPST.exe
this link wont be available forever, if you can download and upload it to a site like megaupload it will be great!
hope this helps

Quick response thanks. Will try it out today and post my results. I did download and reupload to rapidshare. Here is the link.....

I hope CMONEX is okay with that.
Was able to get Snapvue up and running with the exe file listed above. Did not need to do anything else. Thanks for posting. Will need to be more careful when testing new roms.

Excelent!
you are right, but that kind o things is part of the learning process
Thanks again for all the help.
Also managed to fix the Font sizes in Snapue via registry edits so that they increase in proportion to the scaled screen resolution with RealVGA. Until I figure out how to HardSPL the CDMA Shift and cook a custom rom, this will have to do.

Help!

Right... I need to put a file on my internal SD card..
Can someone please tell me how to access the Internal SD card? Thank you!
Connect your phone via USB then select to connect as an internal storage.
Or if it want Kies go to options, and chnge setting there.
If you are not rooted, open My Files or Astro and you are in the internal SD card. Drop the file in a folder if you need to or just loose.
If you are rooted, open Root Explorer and open the sdcard directory. Then do the same as above

Lol, ok first off go to settings/wireless and network/usb settings and select mass storage. Then on your PC go to my computer, connect the phone via USB, on your phone you'll see a green android and a button under it that says "Connect storage to PC", tap it and the android turns orange, you're now connected. Open up the phone's internal SD in "my computer" when it's displayed.
Copy your file to the phone and when your done tap the "Disconnect storage from PC" button, the android will turn green again, hit the back button on your phone and unplug from your PC. All done.
Okay - But I need to put an update.zip file onto my phone. Which folder does it go into?

In the internal SD root directory. That is not in a sub folder...just in /sdcard.

Just put it into the SD card as is, don't open any folders, if you have file extensions set to hidden on your PC it should just be "update", if there are files on your PC with extensions, such as .exe or .jpeg etc then it will be called "update.zip", the same applies to when it's on your SD, it should only end in .zip if everything else has an extension too.
What are you planning to flash? And do you know how to do it?
It helps if you give people an idea of what you're trying to do when you ask for assistance.

I'm really sorry for not being specific.
Basically, I'm waiting for my phone which should be back tomorrow, so I can flash this theme:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1037176
Marcus gave me a link to ROMKitchen and I cooked up my own rom!
I read the instructions, telling me to flash stock JVB which I have downloaded, a custom kernel which I have also downloaded and I have received instructions from Marcus telling me to install the theme via clockworkmod.
I'd really, really appreciate me if you gave me a step by step guide on how to install it

You want to know how to flash the theme with CWM right?
Ok, do you know how to get into recovery mode?
Hold Volume up + Home + Power button all at the same time, as soon as the black and white Samsung screen appears let go of the Power button while still holding Volume up + Home. Keep holding until recovery screen appears.
See the pic attached.
Use the Volume buttons to scroll up and down through the available options, and the Power button to select the one you want.
First thing you want to do is select the Backup and Restore option.
Make a Backup before you go any further.
Once the Backup is complete scroll to Install zip from sdcard, press the power button, you will be asked if you are sure you want to Install the update, scroll down a bit to confirm that you want to install and press the Power button again. The update will begin installing, once it's done you'll need to choose the reboot option, do so by using the Power button.
Your theme should now be installed.
I read through some of the thread in the link you posted, seems like some people had problems with it, so if your phone starts acting funny ask Marcus or some of the guys who had issues and resolved them, they will be in a much better position to guide you step by step if it causes problems.
Best thing you could do is to read up on flashing, roms, and kernels before trying them, there's a wealth of info already posted here, patience and research are better than a bricked phone.
Hope that helps and good luck
