Hey guys

Hey guys I i just bought an HTC 8925, and i stumbled across the forum, seems like a huge community. My phone should come in on tuesday, im upgrading from an iphone.. Just wanted to say hi.
Welcome! Get ready for tons of info, apps, and really good tweaks to put your phone over the edge!
Yeah!!! iPhone --> HTC, good move. What was the reason?
definately a good move! HTC is way better than the competition!
i broke my iphone, and instead of buying a new one i figured id go back to windows mobile.. ive had a few other smartphones but never as nice as the tilt.. there is really nothing to do to the iphone tweakwise other than themes.. plus the gps and 3mp camera really won me over
Smart Move...Welcome aboard! What part of Cleveland? I spent time in Akron years ago...
hola..and welcome

Need to unload my Tilt...

Mods - please forgive if this thread is misplaced!
I've gotten at G1 (Dream) and no longer have any use for this AT&T Tilt. I would sell it on Craigslist or eBay, but frankly I have no malice toward the world, and therefore will not unleash this drastic POS on some unsuspecting fool like me.
Not looking for much - I figure there is a developer here who would be happy to relieve me of it, along with two batteries and a docking station for a couple hundred bucks (I dunno?) If I'm asking too much, I apologize. It's definitely not mint, it's been beat up a bit, but is in excellent working order. The software has no issues that I'm aware of. I refuse to sell it for market price because I feel it's an injustice to do so - AT&T should have paid ME to use this stupid pofc, but I do want to get rid of it.
I'm in SoCal, local pick up in exchange for cash is preferred, would also prefer to give it to a developer who will put it to good use as a platform for testing and developing on WM6 or whatever you like. If nobody wants it, you're welcome to join me for an "Office Space" moment whilst I toss it into the middle of PCH and watch cars and heavy trucks smash it to bits. Whatever is left (I would never litter!) will be somehow otherwise consumed appropriately (perhaps a vat of acid?) and summarily disposed of.
Thank you for your interest; again, should this thread be misplaced, I apologize - instruct and I will comply kindly!
Thank you!
OH - and a BIG shout out to everyone here that helped me try to live with this thing for a few months... it was a few months too long, but I appreciate your valiant efforts nonetheless - you certainly made this thing a LOT less bad! THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP!
To paraphrase the Bard...
The dude doth protest too much, methinks
Nah - it's astounding the difference between a device that works as it should and one that doesn't. WM6 is, imho, complete garbage. And my sentiments were completely reinforced as soon as I tried Android. The Dream just does what it's supposed to as a mobile phone - for instance - I CAN DIAL. It's nice, you know?
Anybody want this thing?
I am interestedin your tilt, I will send you a PM as well to see if we can come to an agreement.

I've only had my Tilt for two weeks, so forgive my ignorance, but I am fully able to dial on my phone (quite easily, I might add!). Does my phone do something unusual that other Tilt models don't do?
Just like in the PC and laptop world, Windows boxes are typically awful "out of the box". With knowledge, customization, and tweaking, though, most users should be able to find a setup that suits them. Obviously, for people looking for something that "just works" out of the box, the Apple and G1 products are great.
Best of luck with your new phone, and here's hoping your Tilt finds a good home.

Howdy folks...

Just thought I'd introduce myself real quick like.
The names Kjell (say it like shell, but with a German accent) and currently living in Norway. I've lived most of my life in the US though. (Primarily in the south.)
I was a Nokia kind of guy, specifically the 9x series, like the 9000, 9110, e90 etc. (Owned each one at least once.) Then I switched to an old QTec (QTek?) phone a few years ago, and hated it. Went back to Nokia and just last year jumped onboard the horrible iPhone bandwagon. (It's a great phone, just, hate being tied down...)
I bought a used HTC Touch HD last week seeing how I've been eying the HD2 for a couple now. But I'm not sure how I'll like Windows on my phone again. So I'm taking it slow.
But needless to say, I'm quite happy with the HD1. It's got a great screen, it's pretty fast and I enjoy the many, many customization options.
My iPhone is being used as an MP3 player/gaming console for my little one.
I'm thinking about testing out some custom roms for the HD. Anyone got any suggestions? Maybe a rom with the possibility to change your local weather to a non HTC chosen location? (I tried doing this on my own via the XML file, but can't. I'm just not that leet lol.)
Anyways, I've said too much. Thanks for having me.

I love the people at XDA!
Thanks all for the welcome.
I've been looking at the HD roms, going to read up a little about the flashing technique first. Don't want to brick anything.
Welcome and enjoy XDA! Happy Flashing!
Well first off, Welcome to XDA.
As a starter I'd advise you to read the wiki's and stickies for your device.
If unsure about anything feel free post a query in the Q&A forum (generally for each device a Q&A thread has been created for queries) or to contact a moderator for assistance
Rick

Hd2 linux forums and fustration.

Since this is off topic I thought why not see what the season vets thought about the constant rants on the hd2 linux forum.
Guys have done such an amazing job but It appears that so many people take them for granted. We have had moderator after moderator after moderator try to clean up the thread to no avail. It seems now that mskip has parked himself there
(thanks skip). You are taking an active role and while I do understand that you have a life I value your efforts in trying to keep the thread somewhat clutter free.
While I havent been able to provide anything to these forums I feel as though they have given me so much. I often lurk reading and finding information. When I find a problem I will often search and search and search till my head hurts.
This is rant due to all the people who come to that forum without reading and want to be spoon fed information. I am sure you all know how annoying it is when someone ask a question that has literally been answered a few post before. Often times I will read all the most recent post till as far back as i can.
Please tell me what you all think? Do you want to bash your head into a wall when you read these post? Do you want to beat cars with a golf club? I know I do .
Oh also respect the dev's they dont have to do this ya know. We could have been stuck with just windows mobile 6.5
I'm tired of people complaining about the thread. XDA at times seems like the most post nazi forum on the net. As such people seem to want to bash other members because of it.
BTW! I love XDA and it's members/management.
It's mostly people excited about Android on the HD2, asking questions over and over or it's people complaining about them and or bashing them.
Me personally, I just let them talk. I follow the 2nd and 3rd post, http://gamesquare.co.uk/ and netrippers irc channel for info.
why are people excited seeing android on an hd2? I don't see anything special about android...
That's because you've been using it. Winmo is horrible. Why do you think I took my HD2 back for a Nexus? I bought a commuter for it, last week because their were no defenders and guess what.... The defender CAME OUT TODAY. I should make a new thread to express my anger,

I've used WinMo since 2006. I've just begun to use Android on my HD2 a couple of weeks ago. After this new Desire build, I'm using WinMo less than Android.
I use WinMo for downloading music with NanoGroove to play on my Android build.
I really am liking Android.
I know I might look like a hypocrite but, When my Leo comes in. I'm going say bye to android for good. It's alright, but wm seems better, and I also miss wm...
sorry, for being off off topic from the discussion.

[Jan. 23]Android Concept Cases

If you would want this idea to be made, post a reply saying so! The more support, the more chance we can make this project work!
1-23*Update* I've been working very hard on this project. I've updated my "Blueprints" and will be making side & back views plus way more ideas than you can throw a stick at. I know this post is not much but pics and some words but just be patient. I will be throwing these models out to the marketers as soon as they're done. I want to try to get these made and ready to be sold for anyone that wants one before the end of this year. I know that's a stretch on time, but I'm still learning about the business side of distributing sadly to say, but if you have any pointers or anything you can help with, feel free to PM me or leave your feedback below! Thanks
-Bryan
1-22Hi everyone! I have been looking all over to find a case for my HD2. So far the only case that I found is an Otterbox Defender Series. It's a really nice case but I think the grey is a gross color for it plus, we now have the ability to have nothing but the Android OS on our device right? So why do we have to have the windows buttons? Why can't we have Android looking buttons? Why do we spend so much money and time on something we can't completely make our own (considering the T-Mobile logo at the top if you have a TMOUS HD2 like I do but don't use a T-Mobile SIM card)? That brings me to my point. That's why I made this concept drawing. I want it to be a rubber cover that goes snuggly over the device like an Otterbox Defender Case. I designed these two models to have custom made Android buttons. If anyone would want to help this project or want to give me any pointers to help me make this happen, PM me or leave your feedback below
Thanks

I like the idea, but the manufacturing costs will be quite high for individual units. I'm sure Otterbox wouldn't design and construct a new outer-case for a few consumers. If you have the means to manufacture them yourself, be wary of the patents in place by Otterbox.
Either way, good luck. If you can pull it off, I'd get one.
I don't think it's proper for you to solicit for money for your pet project. Basically, all you've said is "Donate/Pay me and I might work on this concept drawing based on someone else's case."
Now think about it objectively, would *You* find that a bit odd from someone with a handful of posts on the forum?
Btw, those buttons aren't even the shape of the HD2 buttons.
Edit:
Just looking at the forum rules, yeah, asking for upfront donations is a "NO-NO":

Ok first off, these xda forums is designed for new ideas and progression. Not for people to criticize when you don't know what your talking about. What I was saying is "I'm going to develop and make these cases with a style like Otterbox." I'm not asking anyone to donate me. I'm not asking anyone to like this case either. I'm simply asking for ideas on the case. I want people to get exactly what they want. It's people like you that intimidates people into not saying any ideas that could possibly turn into something great. I will make this case and when I do, you'll find that when you get off your period that you shouldn't discourage people. Only give good criticism. And the whole phone is covered with the rubber for the case besides the screen. Do some research before you open your mouth.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytsfeLK7Bc0

One thing that you learn when you grow up and move out of mommy's basement, is that criticism doesn't mean "tell me what I want to hear". There's nothing 'new' or 'progressive' about your case kid.
With all of your 12 posts under your belt, in your ORIGINAL post you asked for money. I'll repeat that just in case your short attention span made you get distracted.
YOU ASKED FOR DONATIONS FOR A NON-EXISTENT PRODUCT.
From your response above, you sound to me like you're a scamming little thief, not a venture capitalist. (Look that up if the words are too big for you.)
If you want me to respond to you as an adult to a child, I can do that. If you want me to respond to you as though you're something else, let me know k?
Oh, and genius? Thanks for the link to the Otterbox review, Oh wait! I own it already! *gasp*

do you think your cool because have two hundred + posts about you giving people a hard time? if you don't want to help or give criticism thats worth mentioning, shut the hell up and stay off of this post. ill repeat myself since you didnt understand the first time: i never asked them for donations, i said help would be nice NOT ASKED! i never even had a donations link up. if i was trying to scam someone dont you think i would have had a different approach to it rather what i did? your sad that you think that just from the amount of posts that that makes you worth listening to. i live on my own with my fiancée thank you very much. look, i would never try to scam anyone and i never will. i just wanted to design a case that i think people would like. i mean i would and considering the fact that android ported to the hd2 is very very popular, i think this idea is thinking out of the box. Granted, i have no experience in marketing or anything like that, but thats why i made this post. to get help doing so, but if i made one person happy by designing a case that people will enjoy, im satisfied. look you obviously are very judgmental to this whole idea, but if you could help me by leading me in the right direction rather than what you are doing, i could prove to you that im an honest person just trying to get my thoughts heard.

My cool factor has little to do with you trying to scam the forum.
Want advice?
1) Stop lying. Your first post asked for donations and "I'll put up a donate link later". Now you're pretending that you never asked for donations.
2) If you really want advice, stop acting like a little snot-nosed baby who misses his binky. You haven't proposed anything new. Even your sketches are taken from some other phone and you reference someone else's product. I'm missing the new and progressive content for which you were asking for money.
3) Brace yourself for criticism. In the adult world, it happens. A lot. No one is going to hold your hand and whisper softly "well lil Johnny, here's a bundle of cash for a half-thought idea". My first post was fairly neutral and you went off like I killed your favorite bunny. That set the stage for how we're interacting now.
Since I do own my own business, I could certainly tell you how to get things rolling, but as a business owner I also know when someone's peddling garbage, and right now you have a handful of crap.
So, here's some freebie advice: Don't ask for money again. If or when you have an actual product, the market (people) will decide what it's worth, if anything at all.
Sit down with a pencil and lots of paper, and start sketching. Unless you propose something radical (like the otterbox's 2 piece hard/soft combination) you'll just be making 'another silicon gel case' like the other hundred out there. But where you can be different is in some custom design, print, etching, or logo on the back.
There's no real estate on the front of the HD2 that be used creatively, so that leaves the back. Look at some Speck iPod cases for textured patterns and designs. If you come up with something really different, PATENT THE DESIGN then send it to Speckle or Otterbox for review. If it doesn't suck, they might use it.
BUT (Big ole BUT), be prepared for a lot of "That sucks. Try again."
all this back-and-forth aside.... a diy writeup on something like this... even in basic form gets my upvote
I really like the idea a lot. It would be great to have my phone actually look like what I have running it. I mean, you can mod everything else why not the button lay out. I've polished my battery backplate as seen here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888431
It would be great for you to come up with something on the lines to match that
but all in all it's a great idea and I'd be the first to 'donate'
Well idea is nice and little shaddy lol as I do think you are just out to get money no offense intended but what it comes down to is few things overhead costs, production, reliability, marketing in large scale operation you can bargain and cut the middle man but in your case you have to go though middle man thus driving the price higher. But hey if you want to do this then go ahead you don't need anyone permission just be eBay seller and post it on custom sites.
--
Why dont you go to a chineese Manufacturer with the idea, they might be interested,However ide have to say i would be more interested in a better range of housing,They done it with the Blackstone,The chineese brought out different coulourd replacement housing for it,why cant we have a range of different colourd replacement housing for this beast like white, red rather than the standerd black,They would also do buttons, ide much rather have the standard hardware buttons rather than spending a lot of time trying to get ones like the evo,we could keep the hardware but just ask the chineese nicely to change the logos on the actual buttons to make them android style and rather than have a windows logo, just the words menu there instead,i think that would be a much more viable project, people would actually want to see that becouse it gives the device a new image without using cases or stuff like that
I don't like it
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Myself and two of my co-workers have HD2 running android. It would be a pretty sweet case if it came to fruition.
And to comment on what the others said, I was impressed that you took the time to draw that image, so at least you put "some" time into your idea thus far. I was less than enthused to watch your youtube video you posted, which seemed to be a "shameless plug" to bring in traffic to some poorly designed accessory site that presumably you're affiliated with. You just seem to me like one of those people that posts on forums to buy Viagra, but you form actual sentences with your solicitation, LOL.

PS. I would go along with this idea.
So where are the sketches/designs?
Please dont tell me its just that thing which changes color? I could have mocked something up better using Deluxe Paint on my Amiga 1200 (seriously!!)
What I really think we need is completley new housing not just a case. Some Android and WP7 housing would be sweet!

You know, I was actually thinking about that myself. Like replacing the existing framework on the hd2 and replace it with the android or WP7 housing. Now that would be sweet.
I wish someone would start getting creative for this kind of stuff. As long as new phones are being made. HD2 will almost always be on top of it.
Lol, I thought you weren't asking for donations?
