[Q] MicroSD upgrade - Quantum Accessories

Was wondering if anyone had any experience in upgrading the SD card on the LG Optimus Quantum?

Perhaps I misunderstood your post but the Quantum does not have a micro SD slot.

If I remember right there's a 3 x 15min tutorial on youtube of ripping apart a quantum to swap out memory...
A little too complicated for me and 16gig is just right for me...

Anybody know the link to this video? I've been searching youtube and can't find it.

X1i SD card

Hello guys,
i just recived my x1 and gonna buy sd card for it, my question is 8GB or 16GB, which one you offer for buy?
P.S. sorry for my ENG
pardon me if i asked my question in wrong section or...
i'm abit newbie on this subforum ;(
Hopefully I'm missing something because the answer seems to be that if you think you will need more than 8GB you should get the 16GB card. Right?
Thanks for the comment, i mean 8GB or 16GB don't make any delay or problems for using X1?
Atm i put a 8GB SD card in my phone, i Encoded some Music videos and seems there's a problem, The Picture and audio is not matched enough, i mean there is some delay in playing and the audio will play after a while that video played.
Hopfully you got me at the right way.
P.S. sorry for my bad english
Just to be sure, incase any other newbie reads this thread, you should get a MicroSD card and not just a regular SD - it will not work.
I personally have a 16GB SanDisk MicroSDHC Class 2 card in my X1.
About the music and video not being in sync, it could be you encoded the files at too high a bit rate (in which case you should use the app that's out there that re-encodes at the right rate and resolution for the X1 - it's posted somewhere prominent on this board) or it could be that your card is too slow (which I seriously doubt) in which case it is the Class that matters more than the size. Plus it could also matter what app you are using to play back the files on the phone itself, be it CorePlayer, WMP, or something else. So there are a lot of possible explanations to explore before you blame it on the card.

[Q] Recommendations for a new SDcard for XT720

My Korean Motoroli seems to be having big problems with the SDcard recently. Originally I had the factory-issued no-name 8gig class 4 in it and now I have some other no-name brand 16gig class 8 in it, but the problems still remain.
The phone will either "loose" many photos when I use the camera (not writing them to the card) or will even sometimes go to a black screen and then just reboot. Sometimes it even just simply hard-locks the phone requiring me to pull the battery.
What recommended bands/class of sdcard would fix this? Or is the problem something else?

Have you tried reformatting? Or scanning the disk for bad sectors?

Yes, both. I even used the official SDcard formatting program.

Can I ask which ROM you are using? What sort of modifications youve done to the phone? I myself use the stock class 2 8GB and have never had many problems. Since you have the problem on multiple SDcards, it seems like a hardware problem. Bit if you are using a customROM, maybe somethings messing up there. More information would be helpful.

That´s absolutely true.
Will try ext4 in the next days.
Okay, looks like that's the card I should buy. I found a Korean source for it here: http://item.gmarket.co.kr/detailview/Item.asp?goodscode=216437760
Hopefully It might fix some of my problems...
Well, I got the new SDcard (see above) and it seems to be a little better (slightly more responsive)... but the phone still locks up and and/or reboots when I take a photo sometimes. The chance of it happening seems to be less now, but it's still likely to happen.
Any other ideas? Have any other users had a similar problem to this?
Hey check out this thread (see my post #19). A good conversation about cards and classes. Maybe read before you buy and commit.

Card type and class has much to do with camera quality and also video too.
Surprised there isn't more talk about this issue with all the sdcard issues we have. With HD recording and an 8mpxl camera it seems we need a better class card, I need to get a couple for my phones and I am trying to find the best buy on a samsung. My question for anyone who has experience is if I spend the money on a class 10 samsung, is it going to make a big noticeable difference? Will it stop a lot of the issues or is the issue more related to Android and even more so with XT720? Is there anyone who has upgraded who can answer? Seems it will but I would hate to spend the money and not get much improvement.

I am currently using a Samsung Class 10 16GB card that I ordered somewhere online. My main Issue always was with transferring media and this card tackles the problem with ease, I do not get black screen problems anymore. The camera seemed ok with no major differences that I noticed, but usual camera freezes have reduced. Overall I would suggest an upgrade.

It's the same for me. Since 1 day I replaced my stock 8gb sdcard by a lexar 8gb class 10 and no more problem to transfer (hope it will continue) and video record under cm7.2 is smooth.

No,black screen issues are very rare. But have to admit they tend to happen at times, though negligible.

Hi maruki, does it fix your sd card problem. I am also experiencing sd card problem when taking photographs or any activity that will require writing to sd card. (Downloading, etc) I am also suspecting it is a sd card issue and hoping the problem is not on our device. I also plan to buy new one since I am using the stock mem card that comes with the unit. I want to know if it worked for you.
by the way, setting the camera to lower resolution seems to fix the sd card writing failure in my case.
there is new type of sd card, UHS-1 which seem to to deliver a very high speed and write, topping any current sd card in market now as decribed here: http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/05/samsung-ultra-high-speed-microsd/
maybe when it's available I'll purchased one, also the best thing is that it can be used for swap ram to fix xt720 low ram problem. do you think so?
but I'm also not sure if these uhs-1 cards are compatible with xt 720 or not. If anyone plans to buy one when it's available please review after that i'll also do a review when I get one.
class 10
buy a class 10 memory card

UPDATE: 64GB micro SDXC card DOES work in LG Optimus 2x

Hi,
I tested 64GB mircro SDXC in my LG 2x (Modaco rom Gr6 and HP 2x kernel RC12-R) and it DOES NOT work
I was able to format the card to FAT32 in the phone, but when I try to mount it, the phone restarts itself.
If anyone else has different experience, please share.
BTW the card is SDSDQY-064G-U46A
UPDATE:
I managed to fix it. I'm not sure which steps were actually necessary but just to be sure I list them all.
First I tried NicomUA's idea of splitting the patritions in two 32GB. For that I used Paragon Partition Manager 11 Free. And IT WORKED! I made two partitions. I was able to access the first one in the phone, but I could not format or edit the second one neither in the PPM anymore.
So I used SDFormatter 3.1 and reformated the card into its original state with option "Format size adjustment".
Then I checked the partition structure again in PPM. It was exFAT, but with 16MB free space at the beginning.
I formated it to FAT 32 and resized it to 32GB (Now I made only one partition and left the rest of the space unallocated). It worked in the phone.
So I tried to resize the partion to see how far I can go. 32GB worked in my phone. 33GB worked in my phone! And suddenly whole 64GB worked in my phone!!!
I filled the card with movies and music to the max and tested if I can really access the content and YES, I was able to play anything on the card!

May be the limit is 32GB ??
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA
Officially, the limit is 32gb. I've seen mods that enable sd cards with higher capacity than the official limit on other phones, but sadly, I don't think there's one yet for the 2x.
yeah, exactly what the other users said on above posts. i also tried it a week ago, in cyanogenmod 9 and it does not detect the sd card (no reboot happened to me, simply doesn't detect it). Let's hope someone release a mod soon for this... 32 gb is nothing... :|

Well I got 1 Gb and it's ok , just kidding.
Try to make one 31Gb(or less then 32Gb) partition on SD card. It can start work.
Not made for SCXC
i dont think making 2 partition will work ,the SD card reader is made for SHHC (high capacity ) not for SDXC (Xtrem capactity ) ,so i thing it's a hardware problem
New info. Read in the first post...
Thanks for the info ! it's a very good thing to know !
Friggin... awesome...!
Guys I have found this Sandisk 64 Gb Micro sdxc....its really cheap
http://www.ebay.in/itm/SANDISK-64GB...E-PRICE-FREE-SHIPPING-ALL-INDIA-/150795837120
Should I buy this and what are the chances that it will work with our O2x
And according to this
http://www.androidnz.net/2011/09/sandisk-64gb-micro-sdxc-cards-confirmed.html
it says it performs even worse than a class 2 sdhc card in random 4k write speed
So, what would you advice should I buy 64 Gb or a 32 Gb Class 10???
Thanx in advance
Oh boy! Gotta try it out.. 64 grams is impressive..
I would prefer the 32gb class 10 for the speed... also 32gb is plenty of room to fill... class 2 is very low speed and could interfere with the recording of videos for example in 1080p... I think...
Cheers
wow that's great news. thnx.
has anyone tried the 64 gb in O2x or any other android for that matter???
i am in a dilemma here whether to buy 32 gb class 10 or the sandisk 64 gb?

go for the faster 32 gig. you will be sorry if you get the 64 gig card only to see that it cant read /write your huge files fast enough.
I think m gonna wait for a month as my exams are round the corner..
but i'll definetely buy a sandisk mobile ultra as it has the best benchmarks
B/w Has anyone else got or tried the 64 GB card in optimus 2x??? Plz reply guyz...
Sent from my LG-P990 using xda premium
Anybody besides the OP has managed to do this ? I've tried for weeks, I give up.
Used two cards, both SDXC 64GB, the SanDisk Ultra Mobile and a no-brand one from Amazon.
I used two different Optimus 2X, one running CM7, another running CM9.
The cards can't be formatted in the phones, they are simply not recognized at all.
I formatted them in Linux and Mac OS X, always FAT32, and always made a partition smaller than 32GB first, then tried ExFAT, full or bigger partitions, unallocated space in part or all, anything really. Nothing works.
Edit : the cards are fine, I can use then in Macs, PCs, DSLR and even a Galaxy Note. No problem.
Any ideas ? I'd think it's just not possible and the O2X hardware doesn't support SDXC, just SDHC, that's why I'm asking if anyone else can comment.

SD Card question about the phone, thinking of buying

Hi Guys
I'm thinking of getting this phone as my personal phone, I've spent a couple of hours asking LG some questions but the person I talked to didn't seem to know very much in detail about the phone. They did give me a manual however and on it it said that it takes a 64 GB SD card, the guy I talked to said it was micro SDHC, if I'm not mistaken micro SDHC stops at 32 GB and SDXC continues. I was told the maximum speed is class 4 but i wanted to ask you guys can this phone take a class 10 SDXC?. I'm also hoping there might be good development for the phone too, it should be able to handle most things you throw at it right? I'd love to have root for my Cerberus app and maybe unlock the bootloader.
While i talked to the guy i found out that they do something they call VOC (voice of customer) in the support chat, you have to ask for it but they take feedback from you about the phone. Maybe if there is enough of us giving them tips and telling them what we want they might make it happen.
Loving XDA since HTC Hermes :highfive:
SDXC is electrically compatible to SDHC, but they use another partion/storage-system (exFAT) that a SDHC device not knows,
a simple format to FAT32 does the trick
if you have windows you have to use a tool like Fat32format, since windows cannot format this size to fat32
One thing you might want to know is that you can't install apps or move app data to your external micro sd with this phone. So, a 64gb card (or any other card for that matter) will only let you store music, videos, pics, etc., but not apps, at least while there is no root access.
will the 4X be able to read exFat? i'd like to use a 64GB card without formatting it just yet and i don't like the 4GB limit on fat32 i might carry an iso on the sd card or a large movie.
So what's the fastest speed all you guys have with optimus 4x on their sd card? can it read at class 10?
EDIT: Stupid me, i just realised there was a Q & A section. Is there a way for me to move the thread myself? or ask a Mod to do it for me?

[Discussion] Fastest microSD Card

Hey guys,
I think that I just found the world's fastest micro sd card for our xperia plays
Sandisk Extreme Pro microSD Card
It has a mind blowing 90MB/s read speed and 95MB/s write speed !!!! but an astonishingly high price tag
What would be some of the advantages of this amazing speed? and could the xp really take full advatage of this speed?
What are some disadvatages if there is any !?
Please post your thoughts on this :good:
I haz the same but 32GB and its waterproof, , It was extrmely cheap on ebay (new) for 28 Euros, And i can tell u that this card vs stock card is much better, eg with my new card games that haz files on sdcard load like 50-80% quicker , Eg Minecraft PE, Theirs also a 64GB Edition like this!, and correct me if im wrong, some guy in XPlay Forums a while ago had a Exteneded batery and he had lots of space under the cover so he got a 128GB sd card, , and he hacked it into it via messing with hardware cables and then he tweaked some software i think and it worked like a charm!
