UPDATE: 64GB micro SDXC card DOES work in LG Optimus 2x - LG Optimus 2x

Hi,
I tested 64GB mircro SDXC in my LG 2x (Modaco rom Gr6 and HP 2x kernel RC12-R) and it DOES NOT work
I was able to format the card to FAT32 in the phone, but when I try to mount it, the phone restarts itself.
If anyone else has different experience, please share.
BTW the card is SDSDQY-064G-U46A
UPDATE:
I managed to fix it. I'm not sure which steps were actually necessary but just to be sure I list them all.
First I tried NicomUA's idea of splitting the patritions in two 32GB. For that I used Paragon Partition Manager 11 Free. And IT WORKED! I made two partitions. I was able to access the first one in the phone, but I could not format or edit the second one neither in the PPM anymore.
So I used SDFormatter 3.1 and reformated the card into its original state with option "Format size adjustment".
Then I checked the partition structure again in PPM. It was exFAT, but with 16MB free space at the beginning.
I formated it to FAT 32 and resized it to 32GB (Now I made only one partition and left the rest of the space unallocated). It worked in the phone.
So I tried to resize the partion to see how far I can go. 32GB worked in my phone. 33GB worked in my phone! And suddenly whole 64GB worked in my phone!!!
I filled the card with movies and music to the max and tested if I can really access the content and YES, I was able to play anything on the card!

May be the limit is 32GB ??
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA

Officially, the limit is 32gb. I've seen mods that enable sd cards with higher capacity than the official limit on other phones, but sadly, I don't think there's one yet for the 2x.

yeah, exactly what the other users said on above posts. i also tried it a week ago, in cyanogenmod 9 and it does not detect the sd card (no reboot happened to me, simply doesn't detect it). Let's hope someone release a mod soon for this... 32 gb is nothing... :|

Well I got 1 Gb and it's ok , just kidding.

Try to make one 31Gb(or less then 32Gb) partition on SD card. It can start work.

Not made for SCXC
i dont think making 2 partition will work ,the SD card reader is made for SHHC (high capacity ) not for SDXC (Xtrem capactity ) ,so i thing it's a hardware problem

New info. Read in the first post...

Thanks for the info ! it's a very good thing to know !

Friggin... awesome...!

Guys I have found this Sandisk 64 Gb Micro sdxc....its really cheap
http://www.ebay.in/itm/SANDISK-64GB...E-PRICE-FREE-SHIPPING-ALL-INDIA-/150795837120
Should I buy this and what are the chances that it will work with our O2x
And according to this
http://www.androidnz.net/2011/09/sandisk-64gb-micro-sdxc-cards-confirmed.html
it says it performs even worse than a class 2 sdhc card in random 4k write speed
So, what would you advice should I buy 64 Gb or a 32 Gb Class 10???
Thanx in advance

Oh boy! Gotta try it out.. 64 grams is impressive..

I would prefer the 32gb class 10 for the speed... also 32gb is plenty of room to fill... class 2 is very low speed and could interfere with the recording of videos for example in 1080p... I think...
Cheers

wow that's great news. thnx.

has anyone tried the 64 gb in O2x or any other android for that matter???
i am in a dilemma here whether to buy 32 gb class 10 or the sandisk 64 gb?

go for the faster 32 gig. you will be sorry if you get the 64 gig card only to see that it cant read /write your huge files fast enough.

I think m gonna wait for a month as my exams are round the corner..
but i'll definetely buy a sandisk mobile ultra as it has the best benchmarks
B/w Has anyone else got or tried the 64 GB card in optimus 2x??? Plz reply guyz...

Anybody besides the OP has managed to do this ? I've tried for weeks, I give up.
Used two cards, both SDXC 64GB, the SanDisk Ultra Mobile and a no-brand one from Amazon.
I used two different Optimus 2X, one running CM7, another running CM9.
The cards can't be formatted in the phones, they are simply not recognized at all.
I formatted them in Linux and Mac OS X, always FAT32, and always made a partition smaller than 32GB first, then tried ExFAT, full or bigger partitions, unallocated space in part or all, anything really. Nothing works.
Edit : the cards are fine, I can use then in Macs, PCs, DSLR and even a Galaxy Note. No problem.
Any ideas ? I'd think it's just not possible and the O2X hardware doesn't support SDXC, just SDHC, that's why I'm asking if anyone else can comment.

Hardware Compatability to microSDXC

I been reading up a lil bit on this since the extended capacity sounds incredible, especially for HD2 users who have no real built in space.
and Wikipedia says SDHC compatible devices can use sdxc with UHS104 speeds, but not with the newer sd 4.0 specification.
Will the HD2 be capable of SD 4.0 with a firmware update or is this solely a hardware incompatability?
Hardware in HD2 will not accept it.
hello
Is there someone who really tested 64 or 128 GB SDXC, on HD2?

Well, unless installing WP 7.5 changes the hardware, that's bollox.
Does anyone know if a HD2 running WM6.5 supports 64GB microSDXC cards? As in has anyone tried it?
The HD2 can only handle up to a 32GB SD card. whether that would be SDXC or SDHC I'm pretty sure that wouldn't matter.

Good
Recognizes the HTC HD2 if micro sd 64 gb and I have a dual boot and I have not given me any problems
To be recognized only be formatted in FAT32
regards
I ordered a 64GB micro-SDXC card from amazon.co.uk a week ago for GBP45.39 (found on HotUkdeals). Arrived today (was listed as "usually despatched within 1 - 4 weeks"), h2testw confirms capacity, and works fine in my HD2 running WM6.5 (Energy ROM), which shows capacity as 60906MB.
I don't understand why so many jump in saying a 64gb card wouldn't work when they obviously haven't tried. i would assume that it work fine as long as its formatted fat32... Any android phone should accept 64gb cards as well. the only difference between sdhc & sdxc is the formatting Im pretty sure. sdxc is formatted exFat of something like that, but its easy enough to reformat anyway you'd like with a computer.

I have the Sandisk 64GB microSDXC Class 6 and it just works as a 32GB Samsung Class 10. The Sandisk is just a little bit slower in Benchmarks but in my phone I can't feel any difference; besides of the double of space. ;-)
SanDisk Mobile Ultra MicroSDXC 64GB works
I installed the Tytung ICS build on a SanDisk Mobile Ultra MicroSDXC 64GB.
Works fine! Just needs to be farmatted in Fat32

YES you absolutely can run a 64GB microSDXC in an HD2. At least I can verify that with WM6.5.5. I am using the SanDisk 64GB class 10 micro SDXC card in my HD2. The phone does read the full 64GB and can access it all. You do have to reformat it first as it is in exFAT which can't be read. It needs to be formatted in FAT32. The kicker with that if you try to format in your PC, MS has deemed that FAT32 is 32 GB max and if you use the inbuilt format in any version of Windows, it will only format it in exFAT or NTFS. I also tried using a program called SDFormatter but it would not allow me to format in FAT32 either. There is a way to do it from a DOS command but... I ended up using EaseUS Partion Master Home Edition, which is a free program. It worked a charm, and was very fast as well, Then I xxcopy'ed my SD card contents onto the new 64GB card and installed it in my phone. Both my WM 6.5.5 and my SD Android 2.2 are working perfectly, though the Android may be just a bit slower now and then. Both my 32GB and my 64GB are class 10s. I use XXcopy to keep a backup of my SD card on my computer, just in case. I update the backup every couple weeks or if I have updated anything significantly (which seems to be all the time with Android apps). I am running Core Cell Evo v4.1 and CoreDroid v.08. Here are the links to Partition Master http://www.partition-tool.com/download.htm and XXcopy http://www.xxcopy.com/xcpydnld.htm
Here is a screenshot from my HD2 when it was booted into Android.
So very cool, and now my HD2 in both WM 6.5 and Android modes thanks you
128 GB ? OK, will be my next try, then !
I just received my SanDisk SDSDQUA-064G-U46A 64 GB micro SD XC card and been using it for three days now.
To make sure it will work flawlessly, just do the following :
- Use the phone formatting tool (it will format the card in FAT32)
- When restoring your data to the card, don't overwrite the "Application Data" folder nor the "EncFiltLog.menc" file that will have been put on the card root after formatting.
- Check it's Ok by launching an SD android ROM. If you can browse the memory card's contents, you win. Else, just try again from the beginning !
Anyway, both the HD2 and Windows Mobile are fully SD XC compatible, at least up to 64 GB (really NEED to test for 128 GB now ! ), so don't trust people saying they're not !
maybe you can try to partition the SD in multiple partitions of 32GB each... so you can easily use a fat32 file system.
just one question..do is possible to use a 64gb ntfs? Because my SanDisk 32gb class 10 uhs1 is formatted using NTFS and works really well, so I think you could be able to use a 64GB NTFS formatted
I don't think so.
Windows mobile doesn't recognize NTFS (should have been an add-on, if only developpers hadn't stopped producing for this platform), and Android is Linux (Debian) based, so would rather use ext2 / ext3, and of course, FAT and FAT32, that fortunately stay the common links between all worlds...
Edit : Wait, is your card really NTFS formatted ? Windows should automatically choose FAT32 when formatting up to these sizes. I hadn't heard of Windows Mobile being able to read it. It can't read an USB disk in NTFS from Cotulla or Zeno Sloim USB host driver, for instance.
I even tried to format EXFAT32 on my HD2, with no luck. So FAT 32 only, but din't lost room in the process of formatting 64 GB in FAT32. My 32 GB card was almost full, and I earned a full 32 GB storage, so there's no visible cluster waste.
It's even much faster than the old 32 GB card (I bought one of the first that came available form Sandisk), despite the larger volume and allocation tables.
Highly recommended upgrade for people lacking room... It's totally stable, fast and reliable.
Now your idea to format in 2 chunks is good too. Anyway, Windows Mobile could manage them, so why not ? Maybe to be tried when 128 GB cards will become available !

Maximum storage card capacity

Hi,
I want to buy a micro SD : I have seen that the maximum storage for micro sd was of 16 GB.
Someone has already tested a 32 GB storage card?
If yes, Does it work correctly?
Thanks for your answer.
it's works i don't now how becouse i just test my friends card.
Sorry for my English
Maybe it's was on android 1.6 (max 16), but 2.1 should be supported with 32GB
well, i got my X8 only a week ago, it's my first smartphone.
seriously, what do you guys want to store with 32GB card?
i can't imagine what to store in such space, i figure one could make a portable toilet out of it and still got some more space.
Movies (avi, wmv, etc). HD photos from professional photocameras, hi fi music like wav. Download a lot of stuff with torrent client and else. 32 GB really need for me.

I couldn't tell you, because I've bought an 16GB card (class10).
With the price of a 32 GB microSD, I could not fool me.
I think that 32GB is more money then the Phone
You are able to mount 32GB card I've just checked it out but the results are horrible - 500 MB of freshly copied music on the card, and now it is showed as "damaged" on the notification bar. I wouldn't recommend it to you.

I think the X8 will also work extrem slow with a sd card of 16 or 32gb
And with 32Gb class10? The read/write speed is biggest?
I believe that is not a question of card's speed, but more of device's ability to comprehend such a huge space. Just like with enormous hard drives in older computers.
ok.. maybe this out of topic..
what brand of SD card with class 6 or 10??

im just unable to find it in my country.
in my opinion, 32gb can be handle with very well if this SD card are good.

32 gb for a phone is a lot of capacity
Im using 32gb sandisk class 2 memory card in my galaxy s initially when it was 2.1 it was slow. But now after 2.2 update its okay. Only startup and shut down process Will take long time. class doesn't matter on phone it matters only when data is to be transferred from pc to phone . Max transfer speed Will be 2mbps in class 2.

there's a lot of good brand to choose actually, personally i'm using transcend.
what city are you in? in Bandung, you can try BEC. i bought mine from kaskus though, it has almost everything we look for
class.. hmm IMO it's unnecessary to use such a high class card. class 6 (6MB/s) is sufficient enough, because android apps are usually not really big, only 10-12 MB at most so no need for such a large data transfer rate.
Has anyone had good success with the 32Gb card? I dont want to buy one if it's just gonna not work properly.
thanks
Won't work
Chances are, it wouldn't work.
The Xperia X8 currently only supports up to 16GB of memory. If you go higher than that you would experience problems. You might be able to make it work for a few minutes then it might not be able to read the mem card.
Hopefully, in future updates we could use 32GB cards.
I've searched around, no walk-arounds on this yet. If I were you, I'd stick with 16GB. That's a lot of storage!

Micro SD 32 gb for Android

Hi, does anyone know wich of the 32 gb Micro SD Ext supports four partitions.

Dude, EVERY sd card you buy from ebay and seller is from China you are going to get a fake card. They may say 32GB but they are fake and in reality are 1,2,4 GB. They will even display as 32GB via windows but if you put it through a disc scanner it will start to get errors around teh real end of disc. You could even start to fill it up with movies etc and you will get error at point of card filling its real capacity.

Brand doesn't matter, ANY GENUINE card will do.
BTW: You've bought fake card.
BTW2: Accordingly to some tests (some of them available on xda) one of the best, stable cards are SanDisks up to (optimally) class 6. Kingston is much slower in random read tests and class 10 has much higher power consumption (and surprisingly is quite often slower than class 6 when used with HD2).

Many of these users reported that the ExFat file system will not work with 64GB card. It has to be formatted to Fat32 by the phone. Once formatted, the card will work.
Also from Wikipedia
Other operating system kernels, such as Linux, make no distinction between SDHC and SDXC cards, as long as the card contains a compatible filesystem.

Not sure if you read any of the posts I linked but in order for the SDXC to work with the Thrill, you have to format to FAT32 not ExFAT. ExFAT will not work. files over 4GB will not work.
ExFAT (tried with 8GB that is stock) is not compatible with the LG Thrill on 10K (European) Firmaware.
I tried the Windows selected default of 32kb and also "Default Allocation Size", both leave the OS complaining of damaged SD card.
(Can't wait for a Cyanagen Mod, I remember reading in the footnotes of the most recent release LG Thrill was on the list of upcoming; hopefully this will add EXT3 support.)

Sorry EXTREMELY busy right now.
The phone doesn't have trouble recognizing the card seeing that it's twice the capacity to format from phone? could you format fat32 using windows?

64 GB memory card support?

I know Moto G3 officially supports only 32 GB memory card, but I have read that 64/128 GB cards also work with it. Anyone here using 64/128 GB card?
Duplicate thread, my bad.

Supports but Lags
32 works well, when using 64 gb the phones lag a lot.
But it detects the 64 gb one too, if that was your question.
I have no problems (yet) with my 64GB card. At what moment does it lag?

If you format the card to FAT32 before using it in your phone, 64/128GB will work.

i need to post any thing to 10
I'm using a 64gb sandisk with FAT32 filesystem. no lag. read it just fine.
Well Guys it's all depends on Phone that what it accept or not like my phone is just supportable only 32Gb & some phone supports more than 64gb card.
im using a 200gb sdcard in my phone fine
I currently have a 64gb in my Moto G 2015, all you have to do is format the card to Fat32 and it will work in this phone.

A 200GB microSD card should have cost as much as the phone itself, perhaps even a few bucks more.

I popped a new Samsung 64GB in mine, a week or two ago, it popped up and said something like "Unable to read card, would you like to format it?" (not verbatim, but that was the gist of it), I said Yes and it's been fine since then... No lag either, but I am only using about 5gb worth of space so far, mostly all music.

Same here with another Samsung 64GB. Phone wouldn't mount it but allowed formatting. Formatted it and put 60.38 GB of music on it and it has been working fine ever since!

True, I do have around 19k songs on Play Music, but unfortunately my daily commute to work is via Underground, so no signal for at least 50 minutes each way... I was originally going to use a 128gb card as my regular go-to library is @ 112gb...

Old thread I know, but I just put a 64GB Sandisk Ultra (80mb/s) card in mine yesterday. No issues so far, but it was tricky to find a way to format in FAT32 as Windows Explorer in Windows 7 wouldn't permit it. I eventualy used fat32format, which worked perfectly.
