[Q] Gingerbread update-Trackball Notification Light not working on non-google apps - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone else having trouble with their trackball light not working on non-google apps?

non google apps? as in some 3rd party chat client or something?
if so then it depends on the app if it features the trackball light..
Sent from my Nexus One

i'm not getting the notification sound for emails, either?
edit: relating to the thread topic, trackball light for sms popup isn't going off like it was with froyo. unrooted stock here.
eric b

Well it would be like for chompSMS or SMS Popup, it just wouldn't work.

Same with me, i think Google disabled the trackball light in 2.3.

More likely that the app devs just need to update their apps to work better with GB.

Mine seems to have stopped working altogether.

ya.. now mine is gone too..
edit: I just reinstalled sms popup.. and now everything works just like it was..
idk what's happening.!

I agree, I think the developers of certains apps just haven't updated to gingerbread yet, including Blink.
I've also noticed the flashlight widgets/apps don't work now either
Edit: oh, I'm also stock. Will this finally be the thing that forces me to root? Nah, I'm too big of a wuss (and lazy

Found a solution. Look for "Light Flow" in the Market, works like a charm.
I d/l the free app and it covers a lot, the paid app ($1 ish) allows even more (social apps, etc.).

The "Torch" flashlight widget works fine for me.

Been using Light Flow app for a week for trackball alerts with no issues, but you want the latest market version for GB.

Same.
The LED would blink on boot so I knew it wasn't the LED.
I restored and now my notifications blink repeatedly only if the screen is off. Once I turn my screen on (doesn't matter is I unlock the phone or not, dismiss the notification or not- literally just turn the screen on) the notification LED stops blinking. If my phone screen was on when I get the notification, the LED doesn't blink at all...
Ideas? Solutions?

NoLED and menu buttons

Does anyone know how to make the lower buttons, back, menu, search, and home buttons not light up when I receive a message our missed call while using the NoLED app?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I don't believe there is that option within the NoLED app. The BLN has to be built into the Kernel I believe.... I'm sure there will soon enough be a supporting Kernel for this as there is much support for the Galaxy series phones and this sort of thing. As I am not a dev I have no idea how easy/hard it would be but I cant wait
The op was trying to turn the lights off not on. As far as I know it just needs to be updated for gingerbread/ns so that the bottom lights don't turn on. You can follow the original app thread here. It looks like the dev won't be working on it til after the holidays.

As in the camera flash? Well if your phone is laying on it, that probably doesn't work too well
Plus that LED is bright. Not sure what it's power requirements are compared to using NoLED.

That's what Back Light Notification (BLN) is and it needs a supporting kernel to be ported over.
Didn't want to start a whole new thread just to ask a question, but for whatever reason, NoLED doesn't work for me. I'm on Android 2.3.1 running stock (not LP or AWD). I've read the FAQ and I believe I have everything set up correctly. I call myself and miss it and I've emailed myself (different accounts) to test it, but I don't get anything on my black screen.
SOS?

did you use the widget to turn it on or restart the phone? personally i don't like it, i had my phone fully charged and had about 4 notifications bouncing around, not sure if thats a lot but it drained my battery to 16% in about 3 hours.

I honestly doubt its the app. Blacks on SAMOLED consume nearly 0 power.
Check your apps power consumption under Menu > Settings > About Phone > Battery Use.

Display will always be the highest under almost every circumstance, regardless if you had the app or not.
If anything is higher than display, I'd be super concerned.

Yes to both. I have the widget set to "on," restarted my phone, and before, made sure all the settings were correct.
Still, nothing shows up after sending myself emails and giving myself calls (didnt' pick up, of course).
Doesn't seem to work; I'm running 2.3.1 with stock launcher.
Just read the FAQ. It's the "No Lock" app that's preventing NoLED from functioning. That's a shame because sometimes when I'm at home, I dislike having to swipe or enter my pattern key to unlock the phone.
NoLED works fine now. Thanks y'all.

bln are built into all of our kernels these days
I've used NoLed since I purchased my phone in Sept with no problem. In fact, the wife and I both use it. Uninstall and reinstall and see if that works. Also, you should add the NoLed widget to your home screen and then tap it, colored dots should appear inside the box. At that point it's activated. If you reboot your phone I believe it does it for you.

NoLED was a great option prior to the popularity of "BackLight Notification" or BLN.
If you have a compatible kernel, I think it's a better way to go. It doesn't differentiate between different "kinds" of messages like NoLED does, but it's cleaner, and doesn't use the LED screen at all, potentially saving battery and protecting your screen from potential burnin/out.

I never could get that app to work right on the Fasc. It used to be the bees knees, till people started realizing that the lights never turn off until the message has been cleared. In other words, the 10 sec, 15, 30 second versions all stay on till the notification is cleared, despite supposedly having a timer. Newer versions of the BLN app have come and gone, yet I have heard nothing positive about them in the Fasc forum.

BLN does not have a timer unless it is set on blink mode, and there are no working kernels with BLN 2.3, which is required for blinking for the Fascinate. The "timer" you are likely referring to is probably for the timeout for the buttons when the screen is on. Since DJ05/DL09, the buttons stay lit as long as the screen is on.
To control the blinking rate, use "blinky" from market
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Blinky 2.3 (download zip from thread, flash in Clockwork) works on the Fascinate. Blinky 2.4 (Market version, no flashing) works to turn BLN on/off, but doesn't actualy blink stuff.
Try sms popup, works like the handcent pop up, but works for the stock messaging app which is what i use
so fresh and so superclean.

Really? Do you recall the release of BLN? Now it appears the developer has added internal settings. However, the releases in October-November could be downloaded via XDA and came in .zip format with an option in increments of 5-10 seconds up to 30 seconds. Despite the option, the light never turned off until the notification was cleared, even with a supportive kernel, resulting in rapid battery drain in my case. This was a turn off for me and I have not reviewed the product since. Now it appears that the lights blink instead of constantly glowing. I will have to check out the newer version.
didn't know of these apps til i read this thread. thanx everyone.

LG P700 Notification LED

Hello...as many other i try to find a working solution to get notification working with "button light" ...
i try a lot of apps ..for example "iled, led blinker, noled..and many others ...also i try LG Touch LED Notifications which is pretty cool but does not work as expected ..for my P700 device ...
now i finally found a working "LED Notification app" .. but unfortunally it notify only missing calls and sms..however ..its real small application ..does not use that much battery ...for everyone who would give it a shot ...get it from the market ..
***s://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.kreijack.xled&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImV1LmtyZWlqYWNrLnhsZWQiXQ..
or simply search for "xled"
As far as i can see it is open source and allowed to modify ...maybe someone could implement such features of "google talk, whatsapps" etc. notification features????
For the moment i use "xled" for incoming calls and sms ... for all other notification i use "flashme" which also not bad ...if you use the flashlight as notification with a transparent silicon cover for you phone it give a pretty cool effect
I found that the developer of xled provides a newer version that the one which is avialble at the market...
The package was renamed to xled2 ..download from:
http://cassiopea.homelinux.net/android/XLed/
New features are the following:
1. Select Timeframe where the service should run
2. Select Button Light Driver
I use the LG P500 Button on-off driver
I'm very interested about this, i also had the idea a month ago, but i didn't went deeper about
That would be great if it would work with whatsapp or general android notifies

Hi ..
for anyone how would like to give it a shoot ...(if LG LED notification is not working for you)
try
ButtonLED
Setup using "/sys/devices/platform/pmic-leds/leds/button-blacklight/brightness", this is the file that autodiscover suggest to use.
First test only missing calls works for me, so i played around with this tool and notice that i receive every notification if i setup
Turn LED on for : 1s
Then turn it off for : 0s
Permanent Notification : on
This tool capture every notification which is send to statusbar, so don´t forget to enable it in accessibility settings.
To save battery "set up exception" so you cutoff messages you don´t care about.
Hi again...
here is another notification program i tested...works good and is easy to setup.
Only thing you should be aware of is to disable lock screen testing inside the program settings...
Missed Message Flasher
There is also a free version you should test first. But the free version there is limited to a few app notifications
Missed Message Flasher Free
It was great going to try
any news on this? whatsapp notifications still not working
thanks
im going to try the LG notifications 1.2.1 on slim bean
Does this work on an unrooted lg p700?

[Q] Email screen on mod

Is there a way to have the screen turn on when I get a notification? More specifically an email. I did notice in the Roms section there are tweaks to have SMS screen on.
There are apps in the play store that will allow this but they all require the accessibility settings to be turned on which affects how the lock screen works so looking for a way to do this without using an app.
Thanks

You'll either need a different rom or an app, it might be added by an HTC update at some point but I haven't read anything about it. I think HTC thought the notification light was good enough...

Notifications on AOSP with NULL_ ROM

There is much on the internet on how to get notifications working on AOSP, but nothing seems to actually work.
After much time and trial and error, I have found an app that allows me to see SMS only on the Galaxy Gear with NULL_ rom installed.

You need to install it on both the phone and watch

Tablet talk and SWapp link are both on the play store and work well. Tablet talk is good for SMS/MMS and calls. SWapp link can do that + other notifications. Sprocket is also available for SMS.
Does Tablet Notifier work on the gear for other notifications as well or just SMS?
It seems to only work for SMS, although the app says it will work for other apps as well.
I couldn't get SWapp link to work at all. Followed all the instructions and everything. Anything I am missing?
It would be nice to get all app notifications.

I had no problem getting SWapp link working. I ran the app/setup process on my phone first and then repeated on my Gear. Swapp link just feels like it needs a little more polish and battery life could be improved. I'm sure there are variances from device to device but it seems to be working ok.
The main problem I am having with the notifications is that they don't sync. For example, if I mark a notification as read on the watch, it never gets marked that way on the phone....the notification LED remains lit and the notification is still in the shade. The same is true when I read a notification on the phone....it still shows as unread on the watch. I also wish missed notifications on the watch showed up in the notification shade. There is no obvious way to tell on the watch that you've missed a notification.
Lastly, many of the remote functions (e.g. google voice, show notification, remote launch app) are blocked by the lockscreen. With my old phone (Galaxy S3) showing a notification would automatically unlock the device and show the notification (I only use slide to unlock). With my G3, the lockscreen has to be bypassed manually.
