[Hint] More tablet apps on www.android.com/market - Xoom Themes and Apps

Just figure ide let others in on this in case they hadn't found it yet. When going to market on my xoom I notice only a handful of available apps under the tablets section however when going to the android market website and doing a simple search for "tablets" over 20 pages of results are yielded. Why this is not the case in the market on the tab I don't know but we have a shortcut in the meantime.

Maybe not compatible with honeycomb yet.

Also in the market app if you click on each catogorie there will be one for tablets (like games for tablets). It has a few more then listed on the front.

Most imp tablet specific app needed?

Hi guys,
I really want to love the Xoom, I like android a lot and the hardware is too good (at least at this point)
But I not in place where I can drop my iPad for good. The reasons are pure app specific, if I get these decent on Xoom... it's bye bye iPad.
So this is a quasi-'need help' thread. to double check if I'm not missing anything
1. Magazine app - Something like Zinio, I depend too much on it and couldn't find even an ETA on when Zinio will be available for Android
~ Solved. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11939617&postcount=5
2. Comics reader - I know we have the Comics app but I need a cbr/cbz reader. I tired AVC but doesn't seam to work on Honeycomb
~ Solved. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11939617&postcount=6
3. A UI-nice IM app. I love the Gtalk app but need facebook and skype IM app
4. Netflix app.
5. Tablet specific twitter, facebook, foursquare apps. I know iPad doesn't have FB or FS apps but this would be nice
6. Now the big big deal... I consider all these tablets as a 'consumption' devices, and the biggest thing I 'consume' is movies and tv shows...
The best thing about iPad is, I just launch iTunes app then rent a movie, wait for sometime and then enjoy the movie...
Is there a way I can get this experience on a Xoom? I know that right now most of the HD formats play on tegra but is there any hope to get this?
~~~~~~~~~~
Disclaimer: Please don't pounce on this post and call me a iFreak. I'm not trying to diss the Xoom or Android. I did search and try apps to see if I could get all this... but couldn't find a way. So before I make a decision I just wanted some opinions.
thanks
Don't forget the completely absent Google Docs app! Someone please tell me its in the works....
If you download Spare parts and unselect Compatibility mode AVC works great. i have been using it for days now with no FC.
zinio
Zinio works great. I use it on my Xoom and Galaxy Tab.
Have you tried jj comic viewer for comics? i cant confirm it works on 3.0 but it is the best ive found pre HC
A Market app that works...
Searches properly so you can find those Apps you want that may exist but you would never know.
Recognizes applications that have updates properly.
Doesn't randomly open other app's.
Actually installs Apps the first time you ask for them.
And why Google is at it, Tablet Section - more direct support on the Web Market while the programmer who is assigned to the tablet market app figures out how to code - bug fix.
(yes I am frustrated with the market today)
I don't remember if manga watcher loads cbz and crz files but in general it is really good app. It was recently updated to load local files from sd so it might be worth checking out. I know the dev does alot of work and updates it frequently. You might even write him and ask if he plans to add support for these files if they aren't already supported. I bought the full app and have been happy with it ever since.
All I have to say is Samurai Executioner.
I tried Zanio on my Xoom and it just FC on startup.
Tablet apps not showing in the tablet section
I don't understand how the company that revolutionized the internet by creating the worlds best online search engine, can not properly run and organize the search functions of an app store.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.trendstertab&feature=search_result
Trendster HD for instance which is a honeycomb specific app is not showing in the tablet section and how is there not a damn filter for results! Sometimes I feel like Google doesn't really care that much about android.
Wow here is another one
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.handmark.friendstream&feature=search_result
Facebook friend stream app
You'll notice that its called Featured Apps for Tablets. Not tablet apps. Those apps you mentioned aren't featured apps for tablets.
My point is that I think google is cherry picking the apps that show up in that section. It's not the tablet app section its the featured tablet app section so the apps must merit being featured. I do however think there should be away to search for honeycomb optimized applications in addition to this featured tablet app section.
People pay to be on the fetured app section because its more marketing for there app witch I think is stupid
Give it time... good lord. Apple had a slow start to the tablet sections too. Everyone is so damn sensitive nowadays. Give it time and the formatted apps will appear. Hell google just released that special file or whatnot that allows designers to design for all screen size/format in one apk. Dont tell me google doesnt care, its just a slow start not to mention i personally believe that motorola pushed google to release a not fully finished os to beat out the iPad2 announcement.
the op's point makes sense, he isn't complaining about the number of apps. when i hit that tablet featured tab i expect to see apps that are table optimized. there are many tablet and honeycomb optimized apps that are hard to find. if they are charging the people who pay money should just have theirs on top. Right now when you hit that button they make it seem like there are only 20 or so honeycomb apps period.
How to rate and comment on apps from within there honeycomb market?
can't figure this out, Iam quite annoyed. If you can do it on a phone you should be able to do it on a tablet.
If I go to the web based market I can do it, but to hell with that, why should I need to? What an inconvenience.
As of right now you can't.
I've noticed this too. There was one app that I was lookoing at once and it actually had little tabs at the top for comments, ratings and ect. Its weird it isn't for all of them.
My Xoom Sent This
I was trying to figure this out as well, its rediculous that you can't submit ratings on the tablet market app!
My first pet peeve. What can I say, even Google is not immune to hiring morons.
But I suspect it is because they don't want a bunch of negative reviews on apps that are not designed for the tablet yet. However, it should still be available for the tablet features apps.
BTW, it's so annoying that the Facebook widget doesn't work on Honeycomb and neither does Pandora. Jeez.
Yeah the devs are seriously slacking at Facebook
Trillian has a ton of annoyances I'd love to comment on yet can't, so yeah it's pretty annoying.
Let's see you be smart enough to get employed by google then
If you use the web market, you can leave comments. That's what I have been doing.
No comments?
WOW! This is the most constructive comment i've read on the internet about this issue so far...thanks!
Since honeycomb ecosystem is not yet evolved, they make it harder for zoom users to post bad comments and bad ratings. They did it on purpose. They were smart to do this in a sence. But it makes me hate their guts a bit.
this is exactly the reason why. i suspect it will soon once they have a way of marking apps which are honeycomb optimized - and then you can comment on those apps
edit: if it bugs you log on to the market from a pc and you can post reviews there
I wouldn't say that... If developers want to go with the times, they can't simply ignore honeycomb. I'm sure they are thinking about it alright. I agree it's annoying... but just give it some time.
fyi... Load a phone account gmail that u have with a facebook app with... Then goto market and download your market apps from that phone acct... I have a working facebook widget on mine..
I use web browser, login to android market (from xoom), rate, leave comments... then i open market and i can leave, rate apps without browser!
Quickoffice Pro HD available in the Market
Looks like Quick Office HD for the Xoom is finally available!!!
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.qo.android.tablet.am
We're supposed to get an ADDITIONAL 30% discount code by email when this is released, which is weird. And I wonder how we could do that and still have it in the Android Market. Whatever. Buying.
EDIT: Ah, it'd make sense for them to offer 30% off if you buy it outside the Market, they lose nothing that way. I'd rather have it tied to Market though, worth the extra $4.50
yeah I'm hoping that the discount applies to the market version as well so thats 30% off of 14.99. Their facebook page says the email will be sent out shortly once its available on their site.
This is awsome ... already downloaded and using it ... now I will be using my xoom at work
Ipad users watch out
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
There's no way you could apply a discount code to the Market. I'm guessing it's just if you buy through them, they sell it to you without the 30% Google gets when they sell through the Market.
So far works with Dropbox and did anyone notice that you can change width of the colums in the file manager
If you tap and hold the vertical bar and drag to the width of your liking
Already purchased, looks good
So if I buy it from them with the 30 % discount I won't get updates? That sucks ill just get the market version
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
yes please post reviews for all of you who have purchased. I know there's many of us who are seriously thinking about grabbing this app
Just a heads up. While I prefer having it from the Market because I like having all the apps I paid for in one place, there IS an Updates function INSIDE QuickOffice HD. So you can update it outside of the Market on your tablet.
After downloading and loading up a few different file types, It looks really good. Re sizing columns is awesome! Well worth the $ spent. Not worried about waiting for the 30% off. I will be using this heavily this weekend will report back any issues.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
here's a quick video of it in action. it's pretty much like the Notion Ink Adam version, but a bit more polished up! i love it!
Works awesome! Needs more options on the Powerpoint.
I bought it and am pretty happy with it. They've done a nice job with the honeycomb integration.
I've had Doc2Go for about a year on my OG Droid and it still has more capability in the word processor. Spreadsheets seem about the same. Quickoffice has overall better graphics/image display. It's interesting that quickoffice PowerPoint module cannot handle the graphics in the Docs2Go ppt sample.
I will probably continue to use both apps. I hope that either Quickoffice gets a better word processor or Docs2Go gets a proper honeycomb version.
Don't worry about the 30% off deal. It's all marketing. If you go to their website to buy it you get "40% off if you buy now" with a retail price of $24.99.
The $14.99 is the discounted price. May as well buy it from the Market.
Adobe Touch Apps
After being able to install google apps (minus chrome and the newest google+ app?), I am quite happy with the Fire HD.
I have been able to find apk's to sideload most of the apps that are free that I want and then they update via the playstore like normal so far. Only exception being Google+ app is still running the older style before the major revamp.
I have purchased 2 of the Adobe Touch apps, Photoshop Touch and Proto and would love to be able to use them on my Fire. I don't want to steal an apk from a third party site since I have legitimately purchased them. Is there a way to pull an apk from a different tablet I have of those apps? Or if I obtained one from a third party site, would they update like the others have properly?
As a side note, when running Go Launcher, I am unable to run the Kindle app. I haven't had time to search the forums here, but I do know there have been posts related to that issue, so ignore this comment really until I can find out if it has been answered.
Lastly, the magazine subscriptions I have done through the Kindle Launcher, how are those accessed using GoLauncher? Or can they not be?
Thanks!
If your other devices are rooted, you can pull the apk from them, under data/app; normally shown as com.name.name.apk but there are icons also to help you identify.
I used the kindle app in the market and got all my books to start working. Not sure about magazines though, but you can sync it.
Ran across this just now when browsing some stuff!
I'm not sure if this means the play Store version will be updated to install on the Fire Hd's or not, but I hope it does. I don't want to purchase a second copy, but may if it's optimized for the 7" version.
Seems to only be Photoshop Touch at this point, but I'm hopeful for Proto and others as well. Haven't been able to do much more than read about it from work at this point but thought it worth mentioning.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
One last update for this. The other day Adobe did indeed update their Play Store version of Photoshop Touch to work with 7" tablets. This did work with the other problems for me on my Fire HD. Was able to just go to the store and click install.
So for those wanting this on 7" tablets, it now works! I hope they do this with the other touch apps soon as well.
