Microsoft Confirms 1.5M WP7 Sold in the first 6 Weeks

This is really good news for Microsoft and for WP7. In the article they made mention of Apple's IPhone4 sales of 1.7M in 3days. I don't believe the comparison is justified considering people know what the Iphone was before it launched.
I believe WP7 will do very in 2011 considering over 18000 developers have signed on to build apps for this new platform.
So we have 4200 Apps in 2months and counting on WP Marketplace. Android does not even boast of these numbers when it first launched. It took Google's Android OS about 7-8months to reach those numbers.

I read it as manufacturers' sales to retailers.
That means you can sell 1.5 million phones but they might all be sitting on shelves in shops and store rooms.

Manufacturer sells to a retailer, I believe that's a sale. It doesnt matter when the phone gets to an end consumer. A sale is a sale.

I like the optimism but these figures don't show traction.
I'm sure that will come provided we get the fabled updates early next year.

In addition, need I remind you that we are claiming 104apps daily, but this is certain to grow as the months go by. Currently Andriod boasts about 300 daily while Apple boasts about 1000. But this all happens with time.
Like what you said, the updates will give it a boost as well as Verizon and Sprint announced to be involved with the phone as well this coming January to March.
I am just optimistic and I want to see a stronger competition.

This is not Moto Bionic topic at all, really, but Samsung officially announced today (by email) that the Galaxy S3 will be available in the USA from all major carriers "soon". Of course, we still have to wait for each individual carrier to announce their specific availability date, memory sizes, variations, etc. - but we finally have it "from the horses mouth" that the SGS3 IS available in states! Now we're (at least _I_ am) standing in line, waiting for mine in Pebble Blue! I'll try to attach my copy of the announcement message.
I've been told that it will be available Monday, June 11th from Sprint. Come on VerizonWireless - don't make us wait!

I set my alarm for 6:45. I _will_ be waiting in the virtual line, have my $50 discount and update-eligible. I suppose from what it says on the web-site I'm going to get it for $149? Damn! (maybe $199 - who gives a rip?)

Depending on your storage needs $149 for 16 $199 for 32 with $50 discount. And don't forget about the $30 upgrade fee in place now.
And from what I see on our corporate intranet, phones will start shipping July 9.

Below is specific only to the orders from the first day the Nexus 4 was live.
Limbo 1 order fulfillment: ~99%
Limbo 2 order fulfillment: ~99%
Limbo 3 order fulfillment: ~91% (the majority of orders fall into this category)
"fulfillment" = shipped
Above is my educated guess on the status of the shipments that have been going out. I'm constantly tracking this and several other sources for continuing information.
Current status of orders and shipments:
Points below are confirmed:
First major batch shipped Nov 19 (upgraded to Next Day Air).
All orders that took place on the 13th that were back-ordered will be upgraded to Next Day Air for free.
Play Store Customer Service do not have any relevant information about your order. Calling them is nothing short of a complete waste of time.
Orders have not been shipped on a first-come first-serve basis. There is no pattern to the shipments, it is seemingly random. We have indisputable evidence of this.
Addendum to above: It is believed that we are finally going in order. Some of the later orders were shipped first due to an incomplete manifest.
Many people have noticed the last updated date on the Play orders page has changed. No one is certain yet what this might mean.
Points below are likely:
Logistics have been outsourced to UPS.
Order mechanics "slid" during the initial rush of the first few minutes of the product going live. This caused several issues (including an incomplete manifest sent to UPS).
Status of your order (limbos):
1) Order placed. No e-mail of any kind (including order confirmation) received.
2) Order placed. Order confirmation received. No other e-mail of any kind received.
3) Order placed. Order confirmation received. Back-order e-mail received.

Changed "confirmed" to "tentative". 09:00AM PST is most likely, but you should be watching out regardless.
These are some of my favorite threads here! We all heard that the Nexus 4 is now official but I'd wager that a lot of us are waiting for preorders to open up on the Play Store.
Post the usual "I ordered!" "It shipped!" etc. here! I, personally, cannot wait for this guy. Just sold my S3 for it.
I did call Google to ask if they were going to open pre-orders for the device. Doesn't look like it this time around, but I was told that you will be able to purchase on November 13th and that stock would start shipping "either on the 13th or the 17th," whatever that means.
Current information (as of Nov 12):
No one knows what time the purchase will go live.
Best guesses are sometime in the morning of the 13th (office hours), or at 00:00 PST. I'm personally leaning toward the former. (NEW: see below)
There will be no pre-order on the Play Store.

Check here for more information on shipping and handling for your country.
A Virtual Credit Card (VCC) cannot be used with your purchase in the device store. Also, at this time, the country of your credit card must match the the country to which you're shipping.
Taxable charges, if any, depend on what state you're ordering from.
We do not know what shipping options will be available. Right now, only 2-day shipping is confirmed. We are hopeful for an overnight option at launch.

Android Police got a little clarification from Google-- the rep said pretty much exactly what we've been assuming for the past couple of weeks. They also agree with me that the button will be more likely to go live in the morning sometime, rather than at midnight. A German Google employee has revealed that the Nexus 4 should be selling at "around breakfast time" in Germany. He also mentioned that would be about 8-9AM. Sure. But the Play Store says you can purchase it on the 13th.

I would imagine that means a direct purchase. It doesnt mention when pre-orders will start. I for one will definitely be pre-ordering (if possible) this phone. Just hope I can get around £160 for my HTC Desire HD with lots of cases and accessories included

Just shipped mine off! I was hoping to be able to mostly cover the N4 with what I got back from it. Turns out that I actually made money in the trade.

My trusty Atrix 4G.
It served as my go-between phone when I went from Note to S3, too. Got a clean CM10 on it, runs like a charm.

I'll most definitely be getting one of these. The price is good, it looks good, and I really dig the wireless charging. I've many times where I'd just put my phone on my desk, forgot to connect the charger, and fall asleep just to wake up with a (mostly) depleted battery. Finally a worthy replacement for my ageing Nexus one.

I wouldn't be surprised if the wireless dock is not available for quite a while.

Here's to hoping they do same day delivery this time around which may explain no pre order date...

It's not too big of a concern. The wireless charging is a more of a luxury than anything. The most important thing is the option is available; the aftermarket solutions either adds thickness or look just plain ugly.

A Truly Terrible Purchasing Experience

The title is a little misleading, as I was unable to actually purchase anything, but I think it gets my point across for the most part.
For a company as big as Google to botch two consecutive high profile product launches has me scratching my head. First, why would Google not let eager, and most probably loyal, customers simply pre-order the N4? That way they could gauge interest, and if there was a back log, they could just tell pre-order customers their N4s would be delivered at a later date. Sure there might have been disappointment for backlogged orders, but at least they'd know when they would be receiving their N4s.
Second, why on earth would you make us jump through hoops to find out when exactly the N4 would be launching? If it weren't for the persistence of your dedicated fan base, we would never have know if the launch was at 12am pst, 9am pst, or all the other times inbetween. Even the generally accepted launch time of 12am pst was pushed back for 9am pst in NA, but you botched that too by opening preorders at 8:30am pst. WTF! Not to mention the staggered release times in Europe and Australia.
If Android wasn't such a kick ass operating system, I'd probably just pick up a Lumia 920, but you have most of us by the balls, and you seem to know it.
Seriously though, I just want a product launch that doesn't suck. It doesn't have to be awesome, it just has to make me not want to kill myself.

Not much you can do when you get DDoS'd by worldwide over-demand.

It is the worst I've seen for a store front!!

They should have imposed a 2 phone limit on all people and used there IP address to prevent purchasing more.
What's happening is people are buying 10+ and selling them on eBay at a 200% mark-up.

Launch date moved up!

Two websites are reporting the launch date and availability have been moved up from Oct 17th the Sept 26th! I highly doubt I'll have ours in hand by this Friday, but a gut can dream, can't he?

I've actually for three website reports of this now, two mentioning Korea, and one mentioning India, with no confirmation of an accelerated us date yet, however they are supposedly trying to contact Samsung for clarification.

Doesn't help me either, but my point of posting was to find out if everyone was getting a more recent launch date, and if anyone had gotten further information. If India is also being moved up, other countries could be moved up as well.
We are seeing a very low key launch here right now. We were actually the first people to preorder yesterday, even though they have been available for preorders since Friday. The only ads we've also seen are the snarky apple comparison ads, which don't really make Samsung look that great, IMHO.

Looks like Samsung have fail. Is this their first time?
This will be my first Samsung phone.

Really Samsung? How could they be so blind? Apple is androids biggest competitor... So apple releases a phablet and Samsung thinks they are going to release the note 4 almost a month later and not lose market share?
With how little of an upgrade the note4 compared to the note3 I know a few that bought the 6+ to just test the waters. With such a small upgrade they should have had this out on launch day to get as many sales as possible.
I have given up thinking Samsung has a strategy and just realized they are not familiar with consumerism... Especially western consumerism. They need to quit making lame ads about Apple and start copying apples marketing strategies while producing top of the line phones.

ATT website states 10-17 .. i have already ordered .. pre-order for ATT was 19th sept.

What I seriously don't get, is on one hand, they say preorders are sold out.. and then on the pther hand, they say they are moving up the launch date to sell more phones.
How do you sell more phones if you are sold out, and if you wanted to sell 15 million of them, why don't you have 15 million to sell?

Add a fellow Canadian I just want "a" release date. I'm banking on getting it the same time the U.S. does.

The articles clearly state that Samsung is focusing on markets where the iPhone has not released yet.
Another buzz killer is the already advertised pre-order rebate. Ends 10/16.
That does not mean western places other than the u.s will not have a slight chance

I would assume even just releasing it to markets the iPhone hasn't reached yet are fairly small. I doubt apple would target small markets over large. So I still stand with another poorly handled launch.

They are making a press announcement tomorrow, so we'll know what the official word is then.

i know right?? we're always left out...i pre-ordered my note 4 like 5 days after it was announced on rogers, i'm #4 in line. I was expecting a release date but got squat. pretty much the entire world knows their release date, except us
