[Q] Can't enter bootloader anymore! - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
today I (again) used Task29 because the phone behaved strange (didn't find certain files anymore....again).
But this time its quite different. After finishing Task29 I wanted to enter the bootloader to flash the rom from my sd-card (\kovsimg.nbh)....but it won't start holding vol-down + power!!!
It does start normally, but hangs (due to no rom) at sony ericsson logo.
I can do hard reset, but as no rom is on the internal mem, it doesn't have any effect.
I need the bootloader, but it simply doesn't react on the key combo!
Has somebody got any idea?
I mean, it can't be bricked as everything else works like it should, right??
I have OliNex 0.72 since last couple of rom-flashes (~6). Been doing this for a while now....but each time successfully.
Please give me some feedback!
Thank you!
greets,
Andicp

the problem maybe on your Volume down hardware botton... try to reassamble the x1 and try to change the volume down hardware.. but you must have skill to soldering the hardware.. if you doesnt have the skill just go to phone service.. to change the volume down hardware...

Thanks for your reply!
But then it would act as if I'd push only the power button, right? And the Vol-Down button worked before that.
It simply doesn't react by using this key combo.
If I press power button alone, it switches on normally.
Any idea how to solve that?? Please help!

After some research it looks like I would need a Jtag box and adapter for the X1 plus any Jtag-Software to get a new bootloader onto the phone. This will be prolly around 250€ all together.
...so I'd say my beloved X1 is finally (after almost 2 years of usage and flashing fun) bricked.
I don't know how this happened but i am facing the truth right now.
Only way to revive it: Does anyone know a repair-shop in/ close to Munich which has the equipment??

Thanks for your reply!
But first linked thread implies that you can enter the os.
Second one uses cam-button instead of vol-down button, but thats not my problem as my vol-down button is working.
But this confirms that my problem really is the bootloader itself.
So, no luck so far.
Thanks for your help anyway!

fastboot not an option? or has SE that not?(download mode ect)
edit: forget that its an x1. and not an x10. sorry my fault

THANKX
Calm.. breath deeply, and chant the following!!
Start the setup again!
Thats all you need to do!
It is stuck in Bootloader mode.. a hard reset (press the power button & press the reset switch at the same time!) will help, HOWEVER.. you really should just start the update procedure again!
Worse case senario.. Press the power, record and reset button all together. That will put the device into a "clean" bootloader mode.. You can then update!
Hey Juggles, I've a brief question on the bootloader...I take it that it's in a separate memory area from the actual CE ROM? Just trying to wrap my head around how it works. The common "Radio: NONE" problem is apparently caused by the bootloader going to quickly, not allowing the radio to init before it queries it. If we understood where the code was, it might be patchable to add a short delay here. Mind you, patching the bootloader....dangerous! Is there a recovery proceedure for when it's goosed? Something like a serial jtag or i2c link for flashing?
no probs ppl
its got cure

Crap... JIM... I think I may have BRICKED it

Well I was enjoying my Diamond today (picked it up from my local Telus store here in Vancouver, BC.) I was disappointed with the aGPS functionality so I tried to enter into service mode and load up the recommended applications (in other posts on PPCGeeks - I think the code was ##3326 or something like that...) Well - tried to install the application from the PC but unfortunately my PC didn't have the necessary file to do it. I started on my merry way using the phone anyhow and things were working fine without a hitch until I tried to take some video and the device slowed to a crawl. I decided to go ahead and soft reset the unit to clear things out. Right after I did this I the machine went into boot mode (where Touch Diamond heading appears and the red ROM information displays.) This is exactly where it has stayed. I thought maybe the battery was dead so I plugged it into the wall and let it sit for a while. Then I picked it up to see if it would boot. No go - WM 6.1 will not boot up. After to attempting to boot again several times through soft reset I decided the only choice I would have would be to hard reset. I held down the volume down button and held down the enter button, pushed in the reset button with the style... let up the reset button (still holding down volume down and enter...) and waited for the impending message to appear confirming a wipe. No Show Dorthy... nothing - zilch, nadda noonkah. So now I'm sitting here looking at this beautiful piece of equipment wondering if I have bricked the unit by entering the service mode and not getting out (pardon my ignorance on the topic... I'm a rank noob.)
Long story short - I'm looking for assistance, guidance, and help. The Touch Diamond screen just stares me in the face every time I try and reboot and I'm getting frustrated. It was by an act of the high heavens that I actually got the unit (the store only had 2) and I am praying there is hope for my lovely piece of lush ... albeit useless... Diamond...
SOS to the masters.
Sincerely,
Tweaking Diamond User
I don't know what you mean by service mode. Does it display SERIAL or USB? What do you exactly see. Don't think you bricked it, you need more for that
Not sure what you did to the ROM but it doesnt sound like you went into boot loader - rather just reset the device.
Hold down the down volume button while you hit reset and keep holding the down volume until the unit goes into a three color screen. Once its there that is the bootloader. Probably best to Hard SPL it from there and then load another quality ROM onto it.
open the back take out the battery for 10 seconds, reinstall battery, boot it up!
.it should work. if not, then you have one very expensive BRICK!
I second mr_cat's solution. You need to enter in the bootloader mode...
You should be able to revive it...look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=417341
This is a CDMA device... do not use hardspl or any roms on here, as there is no good reason to believe the gsm roms will help you... I suggest as gtpete does... remove the batt for a small period of time then try again. When trying to hard reset make sure you keep the vol dn and enter buttons held until you see the clear storage screen... don't let up too early.
Failing any of this return it to telus... no damage no foul...

Well, for clarification, what model of the diamond are we speaking of? The DIAM100 is certainly NOT a CDMA device. I'm in the US and use a GSM provider so I can't speak of Telus.

Xperia won't boot

I got my cousins Xperia.
When I start the phone, it shows the green SE logo,
And after that I get a blank (backlight on) screen.
I do not see any Radio rom etc info...
Think the bootloaders is broken or whatso ever.
I'm a pro, so plz stfu with ur flash spl etc. etc....
Bootloader won't work,
Hard resetting using the hw keys did work, but after booting again the screen became blank....
It had one of Itjes WM6.1 roms on it...
Mayb time bomb or what so ever, but I don't know why I can't get into bootloader while HR does work....
so you can't flash a stock-rom via microsd-method either?
What happens when you try to get to the boot loader? Did he try to flash a ROM? How did this problem start?

The poster above me asks a valid question. How did this start? Did he do something, or the phone broke on its own?

Well the phone has some falling on the ground dmg.
This also happend when it felt down, he said the phone was acting weird, I soft-resetted the phone and this is what it does.
When I do volume down + Power, it just starts....
When I do softkeys+volumedown + power it does show me the HR information.
Tried HR, the phone restarts and then shows SE logo and after that goed blank (without showing radio, rom info etc...)
It should be hardware damage then. Nothing else fits. Anyway, if none of the hard reset/flashing methods work, there is nothing else to do, but send it for repairs .

Admin lock this thread, and thx all for support.
Insanity! there's got to be a solution to this, the exact same thing happened with my X1 but I swear to the love of god I NEVER even dropped the thing!
Guess what, it's fixed ^^
All I needed to do was download UpdateService for X1
I reinstalled all the software (it requires you to go to the tri-colored screen) and it works perfectly, yet again
hope this might be useful for someone

[Q] Power button just wont work

All of a sudden the power button on my HTC Opal just refuse to work.
I had this problem a few months ago but it started to work within a day normally.
So right now the only ways i can use my phone is keeping it on without suspending power, plugging into charger every now and then to wake,or using the handsfree,or call my cell from another and wake it...im using Evolution-beta(6.5.3) rom..
I would love to get the power button working again.
Anyone has pics on how to open the Opal???I am even ready to physically open it an clean anything if required

You'd ruin the warranty dude...you stay in Mumbai, there is a htc service center at Borivali West in Thakkar Shopping Centre,S.V.Road. S.G.Infotech is the name and here goes the phone number-02228338063.
Call them and quote the warranty.Better not ruin anything. Before you do so,please flash the stock rom in my signature and do not overclock it as they will realise that u have violated the t&C of warranty.Just trying to save your money. They also have service centre at Andheri.Call and you may know.
thanks shr...but will have to wait for exams to finish to service my phone.
In the meantime you could use the following registry tweak to turn on your phone using any button (not just the power button):
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Keybd
set the "defaultkeylock" value to 0, and soft reset. You'll be able to wake your device up with any button (the D-Pad and the Answer/End buttons).
To lock your device in your pocket use S2U2 or the default Windows Mobile lock. I prefer S2U2 because you can set it to turn off your phone in 5 seconds, so if the phone wakes up accidentally in your pocket you won't waste your battery power.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

Tooo bad this dosen't work for me.
Well, it works for me, and I'm using the same ROM (Evo Ultimate Beta)!
Why it doesn't work for you? Are you using any other lock programs? Did you soft-reset after the tweak?

It works only if i press any key within a certain time.
I guess my power button is always internally pressed because I get the warning about saving data even just after resets.

@GFX
Thanks, like I've said in the title - you saved my Viva!
@Falcon_16
I was having the same problem. Phone still under warranty so... I hoped it will be repaired (a dirty contact I've presumed).
Nope! It wasn't the switch fault. It was a corroded ribbon connector on the MB. Not serviceable, the only choice being a MB replacement, not under warranty hence there are corrosion signs. That meaning over 150 USD...
So, thanks again GFX for the advice, the phone seems now still usable.
(meantime I've bought a Wildfire...)

You're welcome ivan_who. Glad the tip helped you keep your phone in a usable state.
I found that trick in the net somewhere, so I cannot take direct credit for it. I merely copied it here because I thought it could help someone, and it did.
Enjoy your Viva.

Expert On X1 Question

Okay, my brother let me have his X1 unti I got a new phone recently he bought the Nokia N8.
The letters I, T, and M do not work on the qwerty keyboard part. For some reason, I think its the rom or something.
Also the volume key doesn't work either. I can't go to that bootloader mode for this phone. I'm really stuck because I want to flash to Firestorm's new rom. But the one its on now has HTC Sense or something like that. Please Help.

The keyboard gets dirty, it's quite common, search for threads that explain how to take the keyboard apart & clean it.
Yes, I think the volume down button is key for flashing - maybe it's just dirty too?

if you can get it connected via activesync to the pc then you can put it into bootloader using the thing supplied with someroms
