hey guys,
Simple enough really... Will the phone lay flat on it's back, or does the camera stick out a bit?
Thanks,

No, in this time camera is on the flat surface. no look like desire hd. its better in shape.

Thanks for the quick reply.
And thanks HTC for finally realising using a phone that's wobbling about the table isn't very ergonomic or user friendly.
The HTC Hero I owned layed flat on its back, but it's buttons were on it's "chin". So it would tip up a bit every time you'd press back or search, very annoying
Finally, I'm switching back to HTC, but I will be waiting for CyanogenMod. I still don't like sense anf prefer a vanilla rom...

Main keypad loose???

Anyone else notice the main keypad under the screen (the whole thing) sits loose under the brushed aluminum front face? Just curious if mine is bad or they all are that way. Thanks.

yeah..i think its been discuss already, your not the only one with that problem, mine seems like its getting worse.
Just to inform that mine is no problem. I got Kaiser since first week of September and the keyboard still fine.
In fact, I dont use it quite often nowadays because I am getting used to the Pocket CM Keyboard !

I can type very fast with pocketcm keyboard and I have my own keyboard layout with all keys that I want.

Acutally, they are talking about the dpad area... the whole group of buttons there (Send/End/Start/OK/etc) is loose. I'm in the same boat.
Prolly should take a poll, since some are tight and not moving, like mine, I'd perhaps consider asking for a replacement.

I think you guys are worrying a bit over nothing. It's just a plate that has a fraction of a millimetre around it that lets it move a little. It cannot get worse as it slides under the faceplate and therefore will never fall out. It does not have the switches attached. They are perfectly firm underneath. It's just a fancy plate/cover, it's not glued or screwed in place but merely held in by the lip that runs underneath the faceplate. Not an issue really -forget about it in my view.
Mike
I was just curious...I think it is designed that way. No big deal really

Nothing wrong with being curious. You are correct it is designed that way and in that sense it's not a fault. It might bother some people, but I just wanted to re-assure anyone that thought it was a fault and might get worse. They are all like that though some may be a little more free to move than others.
Cheers
Mike
PS apologies if I sounded blunt or dismissive, did not mean it that way. I know it bothers (or makes people curious!) not just here but on other fora.
most dpad assembly moves...like the 810 pro and 838 pro..
it's design like that...

Creaking

Hey guys, first of all great forum. Anyway I was wondering if any of you guys get a small creaking sound when you tilt your screen up and down? Its really sad but these things kinda bother me. thanks
I don't, my tilts up fine. Your hinges could be getting rusty.
anyones tilt doesnt stay tilted??? =) like u tilt it up and then it will go back down..
no sounds
get it checked
is the mechanism adjustable as this may help....I would like to adjust mine because when I hold the case when it's closed it will go slilghtly ajar and seems like it should be tighter. Does anyone know how to adjust these?
Ok These are Springs that cause all this, the creaking, the ajarness.
And If I can offer some advise. If you do go trying to replace this part, which you can do. Please wear eye protection.
Lol replacing those would probably be hard and not a good idea, Tytn II looks to have a pretty complicated body.

LOL, so funny. I recently received a replacement Tilt, and it had the creaking like you mentioned. I thought I was being crazy, but it really bothered me, so I called them and had them send a new replacement out. The new one no longer creaks, and
I feel much better

Yeah, mine got really loose and wouldn't stay up, and it was also really sloppy, i.e. the screen would wobble back and forth when it was open. As it turned out I was able to fix it myself by popping the unit open, and inside the body there are 4 screws (once you get to them) that hold the hinges in and control their tension. I tightened the screws and have had no problems since. I got the disassembly instructions from the Wiki, they were in Russian but the pictures were explicit enough.

How to open the battery cover?

Does anyone know how to open the battery cover of Tilt?
Seriously?
You push on the cover, then push up, away from the buttons...
haha thanks alot, never thought it was that easy
I had to look in the manual the first time
It's easy, but if you don't press at the right place it won't move

Unfortunately, I am one of those stuck here. I bought my Kaiser (AT&T branded Tilt) three days ago. I even have an image illustrating where to push but the thing will not move. I tried pressing lightly, very hard... still nothing.
Any hints?

Yep, keep trying ... you press more or less in the center upwards - use 2 thumbs if you have to!
do you people ever try something first, then post?
moreover create a thread...

It can be very stiff when new. The fingers of each hand are just to steady the phone. The thumbs do not need to be pressed hard into the battery cover. The force should be directed in the direction of the arrow in your picture. If it does not budge, do not press harder onto the battery cover but apply more push in the arrow direction.
Mike
well, if its stuck so bad you may try to use THIS tool to open it up...

WHat? Of course they are here!
As everyone knows, Apple fans use only Apple-certified battery removal Stanley Tool.
I think a friend of mine found the way to open his iphone... by having it fly out of his hand and land on a concrete ground on the edge. The faceplate is sticking out 1mm and he can't get it back in place.. luckily no functional damange though, pretty impressive

Nice! I can't wait to get my Touch 3G I am sure the extra umph power is always good. Tell us more about your Touch Pro how is it going with shipped ROM?
I am on Sprint. Thus far its a far superior phone to my 6800 which I really did love. The fit and finish is very nice, the tolerances seem nice, and there are a lot less buttons to create little crevaces for dirt. I have added some normal apps to it like google maps, musicID and dashwire. This thing is very very fast. I wish it had a bit more rigid screen however the VGA screen on this is very nice, it just could feel a bit more firm. It is loaded with great things, moves quickly, and the mercury switches in it are very very sensitive. So far so good. I'm looking for some cool apps, tricks and other things to make this thing more fun.

One of my friends has the same phone - also by sprint, but it seems to lack the mercury switches; odd.
Believe it or not, I was going to go for the touch pro, but decided against it as it came in black. Got sick of black gadgets now let's throw some colour in.

perhaps its not mercury switches. someone told me thats what they are called. I'm talking about those little sensors that allow you to flip and rotate things by changing the landscape of the phone.

I actually picked it up in the silver...I think the black looks better, but it smudges a lot and this one stays relatively clean looking.

Physical rotation of the phone rotates the phone portrait? Those are mercury switches.
also, you can edit posts instead of double posting

You mean the G-sensor right? lol. I've never heard of mercury switches. And I don't see how they could be missing??? Hmm. Tell him to install G-sen and that other app gyrator 2 or something like that in the diamond forum. It should fix his problem.

Theoretically in my mind i think the term "mercury switches" makes perfect sense. This is how i see it; mercury is a liquid metal thus conductive and free to move with the pull of gravity. Imagine the mercury switch as like a 2D diamond shape - 4 corners with a drop of mercury inside. So when for example, you rotate the phone (only 4 distinct directions) upside down the mercury will close the "upside down/top corner of the diamond" circuit, thus signaling the software to change/rotate accordingly.
Otherwise maybe you could use a ball-bearing (which would not be silent like the mercury when it moves)

Now that you've explained it, it does make more sense.

[Q] Housing Swap

Hey guys! So i completely understand how to completely disassemble this phone due to how easy it is (it only takes ten minutes!). But i was wondering do you guys think it would be worth being out of a phone for like a day (while paint drys, etc.) if i painted the whole thing and got rid of some scratches? Im seriously contemplating doing it but i just wanted your guys opinions and also any ideas on what colors i should use . Thanks!
that could be very bad for one no more warranty and two the paint could flake off and damage the hardware inside i would just skin it if u want to change the color that bad.
Thanks.
Thanks mate. My warranty is actually long gone and i will be getting a new phone shortly. The reason i assumed this would work because i saw a guy do it on the evo in the portal. It was actually a top post for the day. Id think about skinning it but for some reason the difficulty of the project is intriguing me. But i will def take what you said into consideration. Thanks
thats cool just please post pics if u do it im interested to see how that would turn out.
Okay
I'd be glad to post pics but it probobaly wont be untill this weekend because i use my phone too much during the week. I was thinking a white and metallic silver look. What do ya think?
i always liked the flat black look
The htc back housing will take dye better than paint. There was some pretty easy steps way back when. Check out ppcgeeks touch diamond forums, or google it.

Hey thanks man.
Issue
Do you guys any idea how i could paint the hardware buttons to hide all the scratches mine had from when i "let" my sister "play with it. Do you thing if i just buffered it all out with a fine sandpaper or something and then paint around them that would work. Because i figured if i was going to make the whole phoen beautiful then i may as well fix this falw too. If you do not think that part is possible then i guess ill just buy new housing for like 5 bucks. But just lmk. Thanks
I like the chips and scratches on my phone -- it reminds me of Boba Fet's helmet.
