Kernel flashing APP - Fascinate Themes and Apps

AppBrain: http://www.appbrain.com/app/neldar.sgs.kernel.flasher
I found this on accident while looking at ROM manager on the market place. I used it to flash and backup the kernel when I switched to EC10. It worked really great ESP. For those that are uncomfortable with using CWM.

Nice discovery as CWM is just a pain to work with.

Clockwork recovery is the accepted tool for flashing kernels in the android world....unless it want available for some unknown reason

Yes I know. But for instance since putting 2.2 on my phone I haven't gotten CWR to work. I am a noob when it comes to that stuff but I found this and it made it easier at least for that moment.

fair enough....my advice though (and i think most would share it) if you cant get clockwork recovery working, then try and figure out why and fix it...flashing stuff is risky/serious stuff and shouldnt be done unless you understand what you are doing

I came from a cliq xt that used jr0ds recovery based on amon RA's recovery that I liked a heck of a lot better that clockwork. The interface was cleaner, it didn't have issues at all, everything in it always worked right all the time.

what issues are you having with clockwork recovery? ive never had a problem

Stick with cwm. I dont even trust rom manager anymore for the facinate at least (Always been great on the droid)
Just odin the latest cwm and play it safe.

CWM is definitely the standard. Anyone who mods their Android phone, no matter what model it is, should learn how to use it.

Doesn't seem like cwm is a finished product, having to sometimes wipe more than once to get it to actually erase something, having to use a certain "color" or one built by a certain dev to make sure it works....
Having to scroll down through a sea of things to actually get to the yes to accomplish a task.....options on the menu that offer to perform a feature, but don't actually work, requiring a manual execution of a script at console, etc....

what version of cwm are you using? Some (orange) do not play well with our phones due to different languages being used.

orange only works with edify update scripts....older versions are compatible with both...but since orange recovery is kinda broken (kernels dont flash right) releases have stuck with amend

It may be the standard but amon ra recovery was on nexus one... I never had cwm only for like a month

Agreed. These are present in other recoveries though except the wiping more than once thing

well on this phone its the standard

I've had many Android phones, and CWM is the way to go.

It's sounding like an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" sort of sentiment from most here, and I'd agree. I've never had problems with this cwr (using "red", which I believe is 2.5.1 4). But if another application exists that gets things done the same way, but is more noob-friendly, then I'd suggest getting someone with appropriate expertise to try it and give the rest of the community the ok to use it. Given that cwr is a tried-and-true method, the likelihood of that occurring is slim.

recovery (be it amon_ra, cwr, or steam) is really essential to be flashing things...while i agree dismissing something out of hand isnt a great way to go about things...kernel flashers from within a booted system have been around for awhile and would only really be necessary if cwr wasnt possible (ie atrix 4g or something)

Missing parts of roms

Hello I just started flashing roms from my phone with astro manager and everytime I download a new rom it doesn't flash the entire rom. It flashes part of it and leaves half if the other roms on my phone. Its not that they are the same because if see all of them before and now they look different and don't have all the cool stuff

Not really sure how you're flashing ROM's with Astro?
Go to the Dev section and read through the guides. You should be using ClockworkMod Recovery to flash. Install Clockwork, reboot into recovery, wipe data, flash your Rom.zip, enjoy.

Where to begin?
I told you astro allows you to download roms to your phone directly, not actually flash a rom.
You should take a step back, I think it would be in your best interest to read more, ask more questions, and understand what you are trying before you try it.
You recovered from one soft brick, but that was only with step by step instructions. Knowledge will help prevent that from happening again
Yes guys I'm sorry, I meant I'm using astro but I'm flashing like im supposed to. The reason I asked the question was to find out how delete all my data work deleting important stuff. In recovery mode, I see delete cache data and delete user data (or something like that) and I didn't want to screw it up, bit i also want all of the rom, which I'm not getting. Please just tell me how and ill read the dev stuff asap

but that still didnt answer the question that was asked.
what do you think you are missing? apps? thats by design, you need to restore them with titanium backup.
stock bloat? by design
what specifically do you think you are missing on these roms?
I realize its a stupid answer but I don't really exactly know. The only thing I know is that I had a very long list of apps FROM THE ROM and now I dont. Maybe its just me but has anyone seen anything like this? If not then so be it, close the thread and ill deal with it.

[Q] trouble installing red dawn ROM for cdma hero

Ok, Papa Smurf put together a really good ROM, I'm just such a noob its killing me. All of the Jargon involved in this is very far over my head. whenever one of you guys say any technical term, i literally have to go look the word up. Rooting for most people with a working brain is a cakewalk. That wasn't the case for me. But i stuck in there and got it done.
Then it came time to install the ROM. I looked through the thread that he posted the ROM and never found any real directions. I'm sure this is due to the fact that everyone has enough sense to figure it out on their own.
What i did was went to the ROM manager and installed the ROM, then re-started my phone. it stuck on the htc screen for a minute then the droid eye thing came up and that kept looping. Soo, according to what I understood from the directions....i took the battery out and put it back in. The first problem I am having is how to turn my phone back on now. It's not even recognizing that the charger is plugged in. The second thing i need is for someone to give me any type of directions on hoe to do this the right way. I dont know how to flash the jit file either.
I'm sure i sound like a fool but thats what i am. Thanks ahead of time to anyone who tries to help me.
I got my phone restored back to the way it was before I tried to install the ROM. I just need to get the ROM installed.
I got it I guess. I just restarted my phone about ten times and it eventually took... a red eye popped up and it said "droid" over and over like it has been doing. Then the rotary lock screen came up and i started to set up my phone. but after i finished it went right back to the eye thing. Is it because of the JIT.ZIP file not being installed right?
That's pretty old. Why not try a nice 2.2 or 2.3 based rom? 2.1 is so... old.

Cm7 or aospmod both are fine choices for non sense roms. Not real sure about sense roms, though. LiquidSense, maybe? Remember to wipe everything before you flash a new rom. Dalvik, cache, data all need it when flashing a new one. More than likely, that is what is causing your boot loops. Don't be so hard on yourself, we all were new once. Btw, I said "hard on"! *Beavis laugh*

What recovery are you using? If it isn't RA, then I can't tell you. I would assume the dalvik wipe would be somewhere around the other wipe options.

Now that we have root...how long till we can get a new rom on there?
Never happy...
We need clockworkmod recovery first to even flash a rom. Probably looking at another week or two for the first rom.

As soon as we get a custom recovery, I'm going to try at ROM developing. I wanted to on my Eris for a while, but I never got around to it (I actually did develop one, but never released it and it wasn't incredibly good, so I stopped using it myself after about a day >_>), and this phone seems like a good one to start on.

It's not necesary. You can make and install ROMs without CWM, you just cant make it idiot proof like CWM .zips are
I want Webtop to run on the device.

G1 not booting

have a g1 and for some reason roms wont flash to it. it came runnign gingerbread of some sorts. i wiped the data via recovery, and it wouldnt reboot, it boot looped. so i have then tried wiping everything and tried flashing lots of roms, but none flash. the phone seems to hang on the g1 screen. i have no idea why they arent booting. i can get into recovery if that helps. any ideas?
EDIT - its only on certain roms now, like cm7, and sense roms
They could require different SD card partitions, or radio/spl combinations.
What radio and spl does it have? Using custom mtd?
I have no idea, the Tom's did mention things about that but since it came tuning cm7, I assumed it had the updated ones. Is there a threadvon how to upgrade them?

Pretty sure it supports cm7 / sense roms as ive tested before shipping. To find out radio/spl, its power+camera.
I believe it to be

i didnt update the .27.08 (forgot what thats called.) as i heard it has less problems than the one after it. (2.22.27.08 is i believe the second most recent one)

[Q] Non-Safestrap Custom ROMs - ICS/GB?

Since we have SBF files now, and I apologize if this is the wrong area to post, but will we be able to get an official Clockworkmod Recovery so that we can install clean ROMs without needing to use Safestrap and running dual systems?
I am willing to test any developments on my D4 given that we can now flash the SBF should it brick.
Also on a somewhat side tangent, has anyone figured out a way to mod the system to allow apps2sd naturally like on the D2/D3 instead of the "media area vs app storage area"?
Thanks in advance everyone.
I am waiting for a response for this thread as well.the safestrap method has created issues I really don't want to deal with on a regular basis. I thought maybe once the sbf were out there we would have clockwork method out there fairly quick. Personally, I really like using safestrap. Stock ROM when I need the phone to work, whatever rom I like otherwise (Though AOKP is getting pretty close to perfect now. Going to check up on CM9 soonish...)
