My USB Keyboard - A7 Accessories

For my elocity A7, I found this keyboard, it works fabulously.

keyboard
Where did you get it? Can you post a link?

I had bought one of these from eBay. It looked exactly like the one shown and it did not work. So I'd wait to see where the OP got his.

THAT is really awesome.

Got mine, flawless
Got mine off ebay right after I saw this post. Got it for $19. I didn't expect it to work but it did right away.
The case is very nice and professional looking. Faux leather (hey its only $19)
It has a magnetic clasp to keep it closed
As it opens you get the spot for the A7 on the left/top and the keyboard is embedded on the right/bottom. It is a complete keyboard with the 3 standard lights.
The usb cable is a thin flimsy cord attached the the usb end that connects to the left side of the A7 (please remember to unplug usb when closing the case and going about your business or you will break it)
There is also a stylus (useless)
The back of the case does have a picture frame style stand that folds out so the whole thing sits up like a netbook
The keyboard itself is small but netbook sized. I found hitting alt-F4, puts the A7 to sleep...nice! There's a "ZZZ" button in place of the usual "Windows Start" button. Hitting this brings up the menu option in whatever app you are in. The "Esc" button escapes you out of whatever app you are in. I'll have to keep playing with the buttons to see what other shrtcuts are there
I am really feeling this case, it makes this A7 look and feel like a real laptop.

@freemase; not sure what restrictions are for ebay links, but could you post the item # or maybe pm me a link for that.
thanks.

Yes freemase, and everyone else. Please leave a link so we can find one. I found some on ebay but don't wanna spend money and wait and have it not work.
Thanks.

Here's the ebay link
Well, I haven;t posted more than 8 posts yet so this forum will not allow me to post links.
I guess to find the one I got is to find the seller named superdeal_2004 and the listing is called
Portable leather Case WITH Mini Keyboard TABLET PC 7"
The item number for my ended auction is 260747417794
Good luck people!

thanks!

How snug does the A7 sit inside the case? Is it secured in there or kinda loose due to the brackets being too far apart?
I just bought a case from ebay about 4 days ago. It looks identical to this one, but the keyboard does not work with the A7. Not to mention the fact that the A7 does not fit tightly in the holder, it sits loose. Needless to say, I am returning it.
The one you bought is exactly what I was looking for.

I have the same kb. Works okay. The only problem is the clamps that hold the A7 are loose and no bottom support when using as a e reader.

You can get it at Ankaka dot com. search for tablet holder USB mini keyboard. Its from china, cost $13. get expedited shipping, if you get regular, it will take forever, took a month for me to get it.

I am giving this a try - thanks!

The tablet holder inside the top part of the case has 2 hooks for the bottom and a sliding hook at the top to account for various size 7" tablets. The A7 fits ok. It would fit better if the top sliding hook were a little bit tighter.
What does suck about this and other A7 stands is the fact the power is on the bottom of the A7 when in landscape, So I can't use this case as a stand and charge the A7. I also have the regular universal stand for tablets that everyone else got and it has that same problem. I have to prop my A7 on the stand on top of 2 hard drives to have it charging while in use.

@freemase; thanks for the tip about making a makeshift stand/gap for charging while in use.

Pivot Stylus

Hey I have been looking for a decent stylus for the HD2 and heard that the Pogo and Dagi Stylus are basically rubbish. I came across the Pivot Iphone Stylus but can't find anywhere that sells it except from here:
http://hk.f2.page.auctions.yahoo.com/hk/auction/b14671270
The only seller seems to be on:
www.shop1609.com (search fro pivot stylus)
Anyways as you can see the site is in chinese as its being sold in the Hong Kong. Is anyone fluent enough in chinese and willing to buy one and try it out? It looks like it has a more traditional spiked tip rather than the ball or flat end of the Pogo/Dagi attempts.
PLEASE for the love of all things good, keep us posted if this stylus works for the HD2 or not. I am in desperate need of a stylus.
I am having a hell of a time getting my fat fingers to work the dif on screne input buttons, and texting. I bought the pogo stylus off of Ebay. But I am seeing reports that is does not work like the vid on youtube shows.
Thank you

I agree. This could be great if it actually works.
Tried a stylus with the same head.
The part you use is the black pad at the bottom of the pen, and the pad must be flat against HD2 screen. This means stylus is held a 90 degree angle.
It will not work on edge of pad.
You must press hard to get a solid line with these.
Better result with finger.
Do not waste your money.
This is the one I purchased for my HD2 and it works perfectly. It has a good solid rubber end angled at about 45% and shrinks down to less than 2 inch when not in use. I have attached it to my leather case with a quick release clip rather than use the earphone plug, so it is not hanging down when I am on a call.

Third-party car windshield mount?

Has anyone found a descent third party car windshield mounth for the Galaxy Tab yet?
Here is one.
Saw something similar on eBay, isn't the "claws" way to big? looks like you could hold a brick with that.
I got the above in car mount as part of the modaco superetrader offer, it's very good and versatile considering the price but the longer arm is almost too wide, so it's a bit fiddly when mounting the brackets on the short sides of the tablet, and there seems to be no way of mounting the brackets on the long sides of the tablet without them pressing the power and volume buttons
Attached is the one Samsung shop gave me free with my galaxy tab and they said the desktop dock also coming soon and they will give me one for free as well .
exact one also on youtube

I have the RAM holder for my old Samsung Q1U's, I found that the SGT w/ the soft case on it wedges rather nicely into it w/o risk of falling out. Because the Q1u is longer than the SGT, the mount does stick out about half an inch on each side.
wow

Scosche do one as well: http://www.scosche.com/products/sfID1/337/sfID2/370/productID/2014
Doesn't look like it has anything to hold it in place, so it's more of a perch than anything, any sudden acceleration and it looks like the tab could fall off.
Shame if that's the case, as it looks good otherwise.

That blue stuff you see is INCREDIBLY sticky, but leaves no residue when it releases. That Tab won't be going anywhere unless there's one hell of a frontal impact on the vehicle (or you own a Veyron with a strap-on rocket booster).

NOT BAD.. seems like it will work with a gel case, im using the ebay one i bought for my ipad and it works great just tends to cover the volume buttons on the case depending how i place it on there. , im still debating if getting the one by slipgrip is gonna be worth it.. depending on if there a holster case that comes out later down the road, i have a slip grip mount for my otterbox defender case on my hd2 and its perfect so im sure the slip grip one for the tab with a gel case would fit perfect just worried if i switch cases later down the road then can't use the slip grip anymore.
heres the slip grip

seems like they sell two types with case or without and a mount that goes on ram mounts.

UPDATE: Just ordered one... So we'll see.
UPDATE: Case just arrived. the case is nice and works well. Mine seem to have the right lower strap sown in a little off. The right strap doesn't fit as well as the left. Still I like it better some some of the other options I've seen and for the price I can't complain.

I also have the case crown case. I'm a freak about keeping the screen clean, and I can see how easy it would be for fingerprints to transfer from the screen to the inside of the case.
I've had it 2 weeks now and have yet to see the imprint on the screen that looks like the lining. Just keep the screen clean before putting it in the case. I keep a silk wiping cloth in the front zipper pocket just for that purpose.
Did you get it Yet? How is it?
Nope not yet.... I didn't ship until Jan 10th.
It may arrive any day now (I hope). I'll have to check with my post office to confirm they don't have it, then contact them to see what's going on.
DealExtreme has great pricing but....
It takes forever to get their stuff. My first order took over 30 days. There was some problems with that order and the second order was placed in November and I just got it last week. I hope you have better luck than me.
Good Luck!

Well, what do you know.... It arrived today.
Will link pics to the original post.
This is the case I'm using. It is a Targus case at Best Buy. Had to modify it slightly because the power button is covered. I used an Exacto knife and cut a small square to use a stylus to turn the power on. Another small mod I need to do is to figure out how to recharge the A7 without removing it; a slight inconvience but the case is very protective and secure for the A7. High quality leather. $29.99

Apparently the link does not work. So here is a picture of the Targus case for the Nook.
I got my from another site. It's a white case with keyboard. I really love the keyboard design. Really user friendly.

I bought a black keyboard case for my A7 tablet on eBay and it works!
My tablet was bought this month and the usb port works with the keyboard case. You have to bend the holders to fit the A7 since it's smaller I'm now waiting to get screen protectors for tablet (using my trimmed my iPad screen protector, will try the Galaxy ones and see if they fit).
I paid less for it - hxxp://cgi.ebay com/7-Case-USB-Keyboard-Epad-Apad-MID-Android-PC-USA-/250786642546?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a640c7a72#ht_5229wt_907
I´ve had the Crown Case since Thursday. Stop the search...this is the one. Fit. look and feel is pure greatness! Side pocket is perfect for spare Micro SD and earbud\mic storage. Perfection!

I need a small portable stand that hold the Note 2 in airplane flights

I'm having some difficulty identifying a stand that matches my requirements. Been Searching a lot but haven't found anything perfect yet. Most are too big and not pocketable.
What I am looking for:
-Very small and light, but sturdy. Preferably pocketable easily.
-Resistant and fairly stable to hold the phone on the food tray on airplanes.
-With some angle adjustment if possible, but around 45 degrees should be good enough.
-Capable of holding phablets and phones (Note II, Galaxy S2), no need to support Tablets.
-If it can hold a Note 2 in a case or with an extended battery, that is a plus, but not essential.
-Able to pass airport security checks (if in your pocket).
-Can be bought in EU (or from somewhere else with fast delivery)
I checked several but most of them look either too large (made for iPads) or too flimsy. Some are not adjustable at all and others have a layout that cannot be pocketed.
This one transforms into some sort of USB Pen and looks interesting, but I'm unsure if it can hold a Note 2 (in the right angle).
Anyone has this one?
Or can suggest any other models?
Thanks
The official stand/battery charger works. It holds well in turbulence.

step 1 - find an old audio cassette case.
step 2 - open the case all the way back and place on a flat surface.
step 3 - put your device on/in it depending on orientation.
it works surprisingly well.
For the best value mutli-purpose holder, see post #9 of this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2118979
In case the suction cup does work on the airplane tray, you can lower the phone down to sit on the tray directly.
For a simple device, this one http://www.tinydeal.com/one-hand-adhesive-washable-ring-holder-stand-for-mobile-phone-p-58445.html works well too. But the ability to adjust the angle is very limited. This is also a poor man's Flygrip. This device stick to the phone by a sticky pad, you can attach/detach it to and from the phone repeatedly without leaving any mark on the phone. One little trick. Wash the sticky pad with warm water, shake off the water and attached it to the phone. It adhere to the phone surprisingly well.

Ahaha, I see what you mean. But it works best for portrait. I want to use it in landscape for movies... there's less grip that way and it will probably fall off in a plane.
I just use a dollar bill (or any kind of bill actually) and origami a stand: http://pockethacks.com/how-to-build-your-own-phone-stand-from-a-dollar-bill/
It works well, very sturdy, and once you're done, you just pocket it away.
Or better yet, get a case that has a built-in kickstand
I use a small, plastic, credit card shaped, foldable stand but I can't remember where I got it. It's similar to this one:

It's not cheap, but can be fond on sale or just the first version, maybe the RocketFish PivotPad may suit your needs.
this shows the first version.
I picked up the first version for $5 on sale at bestbuy through slickdeals or something. Works good.
Been using Go Go Stand since it was profiled on CNET a few years ago.
http://www.gogostand.com/
I am still using both credit card size stands to this day (think about four years). Absolutely love it...so thin...and adjustable. Serves me REALLY well on business trips (used it w/ N1, HTC Sensation, Note 1 & 2).
Think you mentioned you were currently in Europe? Not sure how long it would take to get to where you are, but it wouldn't hurt to contact them?
I actually found out that good old Lego is very suitable for building a stand.
I usually find a useless hotel card or a any expired credit card to use as a temporary kickstand.

The internet sux.
This is after installing flash player plugin ics and reloading the stock browser, after trying dolphin beta, after setting user agent to iphone as told in dolphin betas help.
Added----
Ok if I set user agent to desktop and manually search for the article from the home page, then at least the broken link pics appear but the flash stays blank.
For some reason the link above continues to redirect to m.cnet which is broken, even after clearing cache. Combination of cnet, adobe, android, dolphin (for having flash support but turning it off with no user override) and the internet as a whole, sux.

The one thing I used to use as a kickstand is a good ol business card holder. I just happened to find an unused one at my former workplace and it works perfectly. Granted its not adjustable (maybe adding a few business cards for thickness to prop it forward more could do the trick) but its perfect for my phone. Its a black metal mesh kind but heres thr link for it.

there is newer version out now. it's simular, but has a few changes. How you use it and what it does remains the same.
ZDNet just did an article on a couple weeks ago: linky. I found it all over the net. Amazon has it too. Finding it at $5 like I did, well someone else did and shared the link, will probably be more difficult.
I don't know how well it works with an extended battery case, but I have the icarpus stand, it works quite well:

By the way, the stand you posted in your original post is horrible.
I own it, and It completely can't handle the galaxy note's size.

Goodby Samsung Keyboard .... Hello Aftermarket

The Samsung keyboard is just a horrible design. The keyboard itself has a nice feel, but the way it attaches to the tablet and that backing that attaches to the tablet, it's just an accident waiting to happen. Mine was so glued to the back of my tablet I though I was going to bend the tablet getting it removed and in the end I had to use a plastic guitar pick to work it apart.
So I found this aftermarket keyboard (and case) on Amazon today:
https://www.amazon.com/Keyboard-Touchpad-Detachable-Wireless-Bluetooth/dp/B07X3D5H4R
Looks ideal to me. Going to take Samsung's keyboard back today.
I also picked up this case:
https://www.amazon.com/Infiland-Multiple-Samsung-SM-T860-Charging/dp/B07X1J2Y5Q/
I'm very pleased with it. I like that it folds over the end. A lot like the original Galaxy Tab S case that I had and that I really liked. Except this one protects the tablets edges and corners better.
I had one of those for the s3, the issue though they are nice keyboards is the battery doesn't last unless you turn it off constantly when not in use and you need to charge separately. With the s6 I want something that keeps the s-pen in place as well and all these cases rely on the magnet(poor design from samsung). I like the back kickstand piece, tho I agree the keyboard should have better attachments(better magnets and and a snap).
Keyboard case
Hi ChrisDos
If you have already bought the keyboard case with touchpad, kindly share your feedback on the same. Planning to buy one to go with my tab s6.

I actually came here to ask about that exact keyboard case. I also have the OEM Samsung keyboard case, and I actually like it (I'm using it to type on right now), but want some options with different style cases, since the OEM case isn't very protective, and I just like to switch it up every once in a while. Also the flexibility to move the keyboard away from the screen when I type would be nice sometimes, and i can use it with other bluetooth devices, such as my Note 10+ when I'm using DeX.
And yes, the OEM case is stuck on almost too well. Others complained about it not sticking...well, after about a day, I noticed it was just SLIGHTLY off center with the camera lens. It didn't hurt anything, but my OCD kicked. Holy shirt, I almost broke the hinge prying it off. I actually heard the hinge pop, and thought I had just broken my $180 case.
How do you like the aftermarket keyboard and case? How does the typing and the trackpad compare to the samsung version? Any complaints?
The only thing I think I would miss would be the kickstand from the Samsung case. I'm a police officer and can actually hang the tablet from my steering wheel with the Samsung kickstand and type reports (obviously not while I'm driving, LOL). I also use it as kind of a handle to hold the tablet in portrait mode when writing notes with the S-Pen or just surfing the internet.

First, thanks for being a first responder. Not enough people appreciate how hard your job is. Thank you.
As for the keyboard, I've very happy with it. Actually has a better typing experience than the Samsung keyboard. The keys have a scissor switch underneath. I found the case a bit too thick with the keyboard in there, but it was very well protected and there was a good gap to protect the screen. I'm carrying a USB-C to USB-C cable with me and I can use it to charge the keyboard from the tablet if necessary. Only down side to the keyboard is mine has a slight twist in it because it is so thin and it's made of plastic. Does not affect typing for me at all.
Since the keyboard can be separate from case, I'm actually using this case with the keyboard:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07X1J2Y5Q
There is enough room with the case for it to lay flat and for me to type just fine.
Over all, I much prefer this setup over the Samsung design.

Thank you, I appreciate that.
I was actually considering that same idea...USB C to USB C to charge the keyboard on the go when needed. The Tab S6 battery is big enough, I don't think it would greatly impact battery life for me.
And I actually have that same Infiniland case. Bought it as a temporary solution to protect the tablet until the keyboard case arrived (though as i said, it doesn't really offer much protection).
I think you've convinced me to pull the trigger. Now...black or grey...Hmmm....

Just wondering if this keyboard has the Dex button for when you use Dex? If not how is it launched...Just by hitting the icon on the screen?

There is no button for Dex on the keyboard. I just touch/click the icon on the screen. I think it's also possible to have Dex launch on it's own once it detects the physical keyboard as I think I remember turning on that option in the Dex settings.

So I want the "case" half of the keyboard case. I won't use the keyboard at all. I also don't have an issue where I'd need to protect the screen. The reason I want that case part 8s because of the angles we can have the tablet, could you tell me how well that kick stand works? Thanks mate

Each case is similar. The keyboard case though has a few slots it more or less wants to be put in. The Infinland case has grippy feet on the bottom to let you put it at many angles.
Have you noticed any issues with the S Pen while using this case? It seems like all the other third party keyboard cases I've seen have magnets in them that can pull the pen a little in certain spots.

that kb case looks nice but i cant see a couple things mentioned about it, 1 how does it charge, is it micro or usbc? are the key back lit at all, if so what control is there and are they rgb?
Samsung's Keyboards are terrible and over priced. When I got my Tabs4 this is what I did. Got The Samsung Book Cover without Keyboard. Then I bought an Illuminated Logitech Keyboard and Mouse which have been excellent. Both are Bluetooth and have no problems. Got my S6 coming in tomorrow and planning on using Keyboard and Mouse with that as well. Both can control up to 3 devices.

Think it's charged by microusb (looks like a keyboard I already have and think I see a microusb port at the side bottom right). No backlit from what I can see....

Well, the big advantage of the samsung keyboard cover is the integrated keyboard solution... I don't want to run around with 3 seperate items . I do find it to work pretty decent and pleasantly...
Do agree it;s (way) overpriced though. Then again, spending even more on those seperate devices doesn't sound like the greatest solution for me...
Yeah I guess it depends what you use it for. I don't have a computer anymore so In the Morning I surf the Web and it really nice to have the seperate keyboard and mouse. And they can hold a charge for a week or two depending how how much you use em. Then when I go to work I just take the Tab so I can watch Football and Movies.
But really that keyboard is only a little bit wider than the tablet. It's not a full size keyboard but it's much nicer to type on. Just sharing my experience and what I use. Everyone will be different.

It charges with a USB-C cable. Keys are not back lit.
I've bought one off of eBay for £20 - I only got it today, so haven't had a lot of time to test it out, but it does seem pretty good. For £20 I thought I couldn't go to wrong. The only problem I've noticed so far is some of the special characters aren't where they should be, but that's not particulary a deal breaker for me. The backlight is pretty cool on it too and the case is perfect for what I needed really. Link below is anyone is interested.

There is a lot of hyperbole going on in this thread IMO.
I find the OEM keyboard has the following advantages:
(1) the physical connection via pogo pins allows instant response without worry about bluetooth sleep feature timeouts. For me this is a huge advantage over every bluetooth anything I have ever used.
(2) the kick stand is very dependable if you attach it correctly and the ability to keep the kickstand while also removing the keyboard is aces.
The OEM keyboard has the following disadvantages:
(1) The trackpad does not recognize a light double-tap as being a touch+drag the way a PC trackpad usually would. So resizing windows and dragging +dropping is awkward and best relegated to the touch screen (or an actual mouse).
(2) The number row is the wrong size.
(3) The arrow keys should be an inverted T and they are not.
Otherwise it is fine. Expensive for something which is only fine but I seriously cannot stress how much better the pogo pin connection is compared to bluetooth. Your mileage may vary but this keyboard IMO is fine and does improve the tablet experience.
anyone ever tried this case/kb? https://www.logitech.com/en-roeu/product/ultrathin-keyboard-folio-galaxy-tab4-10?crid=1221
im guesing it doesnt fit but looks great, or maybe they are doing an s6 version?
