KIllswitch on Adams with cases - Adam Accessories

Hi guys, im the developer of Kilsswitch, an app that turn off the screen of your device when the case is closed.
You can find the apps thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988126
Ive been meaning to get some feedback from people using the more obscure devices, so if anyone has the app or participated in the beta a few weeks back, id like to hear about the results!

This is fantastic. I didnt even know I was looking for this. It works exactly as its supposed to. Im using Vegan 5.1.1 and a SwissGear slip case from Walmart.
And as a bonus the Adam's light sensor is perfectly placed to be used a power "button" of sorts. GReat work!

Great! What sensors are you using?
Also, i will release a new version by weeks end which integrates a new function - you will be able to run Killswitch using a day/ night schedule. I know this doesnt sound important, but it is.
ATM Killswitch is a hack - i built it for myself knowing full well that low quality sensors on many devices will have problems registering events in high-sensitivity environments (at night, for example, when ambient light levels can be low in peoples homes) .
My galaxy tab is an engineering sample with an excellent light sensor which works perfectly even when light levels are low, but many consumer products have really weak sensors that cant differentiate between low light levels.
For this reason i always recommend an activation delay of 6+ seconds to ensure redundancy.
With the schedule feature, Killswitch will allow people with weak sensors to disable some functionality at times when they know their sensors are not up to psr.

Any way to provide apk? Market is always flaky on mine.

I'm using the ambient light sensor at 1% sensitivity. I don't think the Adam has a proximity sensor. I don't have a use for the accelerometer sensor as I don't place my device facedown but can confirm that it works, and well I might add.
Full disclosure, I pirated your app to test, but will be buying it tomorrow on payday, for my device and the 3 others that I manage in my family. Thanks for the hard work, this is extremely useful.
Edit: Bought 2 copies so far. 1 for myself and 1 for the wife.

Ah, so a pay for app, I checked and also no demo. I'll try it once there is one, thanks for the effort.

15 minutes is more than enough to try it out - just put your finger over the light sensor!
Ive been considering a demo, but it would have to be seriously restricted or time-limited... hardly a demo.

[Q] Proximity sensor

Hey guys. I have looked around and can find no info on some of the tabs sensors. From what i understand the chipset is straight out of the galaxy s phones, which is the reason i see the existence of a proximity sensor but dont see any data from it.
Anyone have a clue whether it actually exists?
chipset and sensors are different things....even if the chipset supports a certain type of sensor doesn't mean it should be there if there is no need to be there.
galaxy tab doesn't need a proxy sensor cause you are not going to put it beside your face when calling...

Doesn't need and doesn't have are different things. Point is, if it was stated that the tab has a proximity sensor, where is it?
I'm pretty sure it has one, in the unofficial CM build Technomancer says he fakes i at 10CM
There is no proximity sensor in Galaxy Tab.
My CM7 sensors driver pretends there is one and reports 10CM distance so the Phone app behaves better.
Thanks mate, that's what you said in the last thread back in October, but why do all the sensor pingers see it? Are they checking code rather than hardware?
Also, is there a working, sensitive light meter anywhere for the tabs ambient light sensor? The couple I've tried refuse to work...
There is working light sensor in the Tab. Both my CM7 and Samsung ROMs support it just fine. It has range from 0 to 6000 Lux snapped to one of several levels in the kernel driver. You can actually read it from sys interface.
The proximity sensor in my CM7 sensors driver is just software reporting constant 10cm to the system. The sensors test apps in my CM7 (I uses Sensor Test and Plot http://www.appbrain.com/app/sensor-test-and-plot/com.golborne.android.SensorTest) just reports 10cm from my fake sensor.
I think there is some leftover code in Samsungs sensors driver that may report presence of proximity sensor.
Yep, i use it as well, but my issue is with the three avaliable states the driver seems to report.
I get 5, 22 and 75. Are there only three levels then? And no way to modify them outside the kernel?
I can get up to 6000lux using strong LED flashlight directly on the sensor.
There is another sys device that can read unprocessed data that has values not snapped to 5,22,75 etc... but Samsung's driver uses the snapped device (and so is mine).
This is very annoying... im trying to make an app that needs a proximity sensor to work as intended so the light sensor as well as the sleep mode implementation are really no substitute.
In any case, im sure it will be quite usefull for all tablet owners running 2.2 and up and using a case. I will have a closed beta for xda members by the end of the day, so people can test it over the weekend.
Would you like a shot, mancer?
I don't know what would you do but if I understand why not to use the g-sensor ... just like in samsung omnia...put backwards enable silent courtesy mode.
the proximity sensor will be useful if you use the leather case to close the screen when touches the screen , like ipad 2 and galaxy tab 10.1 V they have proximity sensors , but i noticed that the sensor exists using sensor applications they see it exists but not giving readings
Hi - there is no sensor, the sensor list showing it is just a glitch from the galaxy s motherboards. And the functionality youre describing is already available in my app Killswitch - you can get both the lite and full version from my signature...

Bottom IR Sensors Not Working

Upgraded the suite of Moto apps two days ago (Moto Voice, Moto Actions, etc.). Since then, my bottom sensors are not working at all. I have to make sure the top sensors pick up my motion in order to wake the phone. I have covered the top sensors and verified the bottom ones are dead. Everything was working fine before the upgrade. Anyone else having this issue?
The bottom "sensors" never worked because they are not sensors- they are IR flashers. There is only one sensor and it's at the top. The bottom ones send out IR, the top picks it up.

Hmm...I'm not sure about that. I don't have anything specific that allows me to refute your claim, however, anything I have found states the phone has 4 low powered IR sensors (one on each corner). Additionally, I used to be able to "approach" the phone from the bottom half as if I was picking it up and it would instantly light up the screen. Since the update this is not the case and I have to be high enough on the phone to be picked up by the top ones. This "bottom approach" is the same method demonstrated in the Moto Actions "demo" on the phone itself but just doesn't work anymore.
I appreciate your response but from what I've read, and my own anecdotal evidence, seems to indicate this isn't completely accurate.

I'm telling you, it's the case. Turn off your lights and look very closely at your phone and you can actually see the emitters working with your own eyes. They turn on when Moto Display is off, and the moment Moto Display turns on, the emitters turn off. There are 3 emitters total- two at the bottom and one just to the right of the earpiece. Their purpose is to essentially bathe your hand in IR light, which the sensor then detects. That's how the system works. When documentation states that there are 4 low power sensors, it's really just for the layman who wouldn't necessarily understand the actual way it works without it being explained. Yes there are 4 devices on the face of the phone to make it work, but only one of them is an actual sensor. Like I said, the other 3 are emitters.
All that said, when you reach for the phone, your hand needs to be high enough from it when you come in from the bottom that it is within the sensor's field of view. Otherwise it won't work. It seems that 3-4 inches is the lower limit. Anything closer than that and it won't pick up your hand until it's closer to the top of the phone.
Alright. That explanation seems plausible enough. I had read somewhere that somebody else was saying their lower sensors weren't working and I started "testing" mine, so maybe I was expecting there to be an issue and ended up finding one that wasn't there. You are correct, if I ensure my hand is a minimum of 4-5 inches from the phone it seems to react just fine.
Thanks for taking the time to respond and explain it, I really appreciate it.

[Q] What would make Google Cardboard rotate constantly?

I picked up a Google Cardboard for some fun, but the picture constantly rotates while trying to use it on my XZ. The axis of the rotation is that of going from portrait to landscape (Y axis??)
I've tested the accel, compass, and gyro using the service tests and they all seem to be fine. My XZ is completely stock and up-to-date (OTA).
Not sure what the problem could be? It works fine on my SGS5. I'd appreciate any feedback as the XZ looks and fits inside SO much cleaner than the SGS5, plus its not my daily driver so I won't have to take it out often.
I vaguely recall the same error happening on an app a long time ago, can't remember for the life of me what it was.
Hey. I also play with VR for almost month now(got two vr goggles with are WAY better lenses and quality than cardboard)
And also I have this problem of rotating screen. And to be honest its all depend on app and orientation provider. Most of the time app use indirect/direct sensor fusion but this method just suck...
I found only one solution for that and its to put phone on flat surface for few second with screen face up, and then phone calibrate sensor itself.
Of course its not helping for too long, but its always something...
My favorite VR game: Corridoom is best example for problem that we have.
Fast movement of device constantly move gyro starting point to one direction and when you sit in chair and look straight after a while you need to almost turn 180* because device lost this starting point. App does provide only simple calibration in main menu and Dev that I write about that said that for now its not gonna change this option.
So even if gyro in our xz is really accurate, because i use it as a VR goggles for PC gaming thanks to app Trinus VR
Only real solution for that is actual app that have option to block or reset roll effect. For example my main movie app for watching VR movies Cardboard Theater have such option and for most of time I dont have this problem when I watch movies.
I also tested it via service tests and you can see this problem, when you start app and this Rubik's cube is faced to you green move phone right and left and after few moves its not facing green, but red or blue... And for that app should have that option to reset yaw and roll when you stop moving, but for now most of devs that create VR apps and games just dont think to put such options.
And its not only XZ problem I tested it with galaxy S5 and galaxy Grand Prime and its also have that problem but not that often, mostly when I move my head very fast or for too long, screen start rotating.
maybe it would be possible to fix that in device it self to reset that roll effect but I dont think that anyone with knowledge would like to check that... :/
Trackers are pretty sensitive without some kind of reference point such as a camera. I expect a small amount of bias error over a duration, but using cardboard movie theater the screen turns 180 degrees (roll) in less than 10 seconds. The sensor tests are nowhere near as inaccurate.
Obviously any phone will have the issue over time though, they are cheap parts in small housing. There's multi thousand dollar systems with small degree of wander that are only IMUs. It's the severe amount the xz has that bugs me.
I'll try the laying it flat so it can reset its bias, might work. I noticed yesterday that when facing west it wasnt half as bad.
If you were actually able to enjoy a movie without locking the orientation then yours is far better than mine. My sgs5 I might have to adjust the orientation once every 30 minutes, the xz I have to reset it every seconds lmao.
Thank you for the input!
update:
Letting the bias adjust helped immensely. Thanks for the advice!
Hi did u manage to sort it out. I have xperia z and have same problem. I can play some games but everytime i use 'view in cardboard ' on youtube the screens spin, also when i use googke cardboard apps. Maby its a google problem and not our phones? Like you iv testedband recalibrated my phone byt to no avail
If you got it fixed giz a shout mate
Cheers

3 days in and disappointed

So iam now 3 days in with the S10 plus and i have to say that while theres lots i love about it , iam also disappointed. Here are my complaints thus far..... I pray some of these can and will be fixed with a software update.
1 - Camera, Yes its pretty good but i expected more. No better then the S9 imo. Expected a little more from Samsung with regards the camera this year.
2 - Kepad touch issues..... I virtually cannot type on this phone without constantly and accidentally hitting the 'p' key. I do not have chubby hands or anything but whenever i need to reach across to the left side of the keypad , iam forever hitting that 'p' key and it drives me crazy to the point where i may return the phone.
3 - No notification LED - This wouldnt be a deal breaker if Edge lighting worked properly but Edge lighting is pretty damn poor lets be honest. Works fine for default messaging app but thats about it.
4 - Fingerprint scanner - Was awful initially but improved massively once i removed the pre-installed screen protector and added a second fingerprint using the same finger. However, I still find that it occasionally fails to read my fingerprint. I feel like iam placing my thumb in the right area given that the icon lights up to help me but somehow it still sometimes fails. I would say it works around 80% of the time
5 - Fast Charging - Again i expected more. Its not slow but its not fast either. It takes around 1hr 45 mins to get from 15% - 100%
For me personally i would be happy if they could improve the keypad and fingerprint issue but theres already been updates and not much has changed.
You mention keypad, are you talking about the keyboard? If so just use another keyboard.

Tried another keyboard but same issue! Its the curved display ultimately thats the issue i guess not the keyboard. Although i also owned an S8 and S9 Plus and neither of them had this issue!

Ha When i reach over to the left edge of the display to type, my skin hits the 'p' key. Its absolutely driving me insane ha

You can modify the size of the keyboard for this very reason, move it up or down until you can use it comfortably.
You can also modify the curve display deadzone with goodlock.
I'm also surprised that AOD doesn't fill the void of a notification led.. it certainly does for me.. In saying that I would like to see a notification ring around the camera cutout, I think that would of been a nice touch.
I agree with you on everything you mentioned.
I would add one more thing regarding accidental touches, I am a skinny guy, and so are my hands, but whenever I am reaching to other side of the screen, I find the screen either not responding to my touches or causing accidental touches, what drives me crazy is that I check the palm of my hand and almost always it's not even touching the edge of the screen, it's as if even when your skin is hovering few mm above the edge if the screen the phone will take it as if your actually touching it, if that makes sense.
As for the camera, coming from the Note 9, I am so disappointed with the low light capabilities of this phone, even indoors it's not up to par with other flagships, I even get worse shots than my previous Note 9 and S9. To make matters worse, Samsung didn't include a propper night mode that can compete with Huawei's night mode or the Pixel's night sight.
Sorry for my bad English, I hope I was clear enough in delivering my point. Cheers.

The S10 does have a Multi Colored Notification LED around it's camera cutout. This YouTube video explains how to activate and manage it.

Try using a light touch on the fingerprint display reader as opposed to a hard press, this is how it's designed to function.
The S10 Camera has a Pro Mode, you can adjust virtual any aspect of photos to your preference.

That notification is from using a 3rd party app and a light touch with the screen protector hasn't worked too well.

I contacted Samsung about the keyboard issue! All they suggest is to leave feedback. If your using the stock keyboard then it can be resized which i guess kinda is a solution but you have to bring it in from both sides to keep it centered and the keyboard then winds up been a tad too small so its not ideal! Its weird because my s9 plus was almost identical in terms of its dimensions yet it did not have this issue.
fingerprint scanner has also been a nightmare today! I could swear iam not doing anything different yet it works sometimes and rejects me other times. Its makin me miss the finger print scanner on the s9. It was so much better. Another small annoyance is how fast my battery goes from 100% to 99% lol
Battery in general is great but i charge it to 100%, Unplug it and seconds later iam at 99% .......... what the fudge ha
I used an iphone xs temporarily recently and i have to say that while it is over priced and in general Samsung is much better and cheaper too. However, Apple does things properly. It worked flawlessly and never gave issue. The Samsung is far better on paper and ticks all the boxes but in day to day use its just not as 'perfect'

I agree it's a bit annoying compared to other Motorola models where Moto display at least can be set to quiet times. Last model I used where this function worked more smoothly was Moto Z4.
Already raised this to Motorola team as feedback, hopefully it can be fixed in upcoming software updates.
They don't give a f...
They persistently force users to use their own ****e version of AOD called Peek Display which is a total crap in practical usage. This damn thing used to light up every time I hit any bump while driving my car, I eventually had to turn this damn thing off!
Totally iritating, I'm really surprised they still implement this stuff in current form, and so few people complain.
