Using the Incredible in Europe - Droid Incredible Accessories

I think I have the best answer to this perplexing problem... a GSM based Mi-Fi device.
The Zoom We3G is an unlocked GSM Mi-Fi-

You will need to purchase a SIM and data access. AT&T works for North America, but there are many options for Europe. I like the Tschibo offer for Germany. 10€ gets you the SIM card and another 10€ gets you 500MB (use within 30 days). Tschibo is a chain coffee shop all over Germany and their cards use the O2 network - one of the best. click here

yep. Inc2 is CDMA/GSM ... anyone know if the GSM is unlocked when stock?
AND, not many readers here would have a Inc2. I have well over a year to go on my current contract.

Sim free hd7?

Hi, does anyone know when the hd7 will be available to buy sim free in the UK? I got my hd2 from expansys last November and now I really want the hd7! I know I could get it on o2 and unlock it but I'm not so keen on that.
Thanks

No I dont think so, its exclusively available to O2 in the UK, Expansys dont show it as being available sim free either.
Strange decision to alienate potential new wp7 customers by restricting where and how you can get a hd7! Surely to make a new OS work make the flagship handset available to everyone!
Sent from my HD2 using XDA App
German O2 HD7 is afaik Lock free. Perhaps you can import it from there.
The real issue is that not only HD7, but there is not any WP7 SIM free handset available. I really don't like these slavery and expensive 2 years contracts, or full of bloatware locked PAYG devices. So I'm looking only for SIM free but no avail. I don’t mind the O2 “exclusivity” because prefer Omnia 7 than HD7. Unfortunately the only info for expected stock availability, which I’ve found, is for the end of Nov!
As far as I know the HD7 will not be available sim free until the exclusivity deal ends with O2, date not known for this.
Out of interest, I got the following deal from O2 last week by phoning retentions dept after being a contract customer with them for many years:
Simplicity 12 month @ £15 per month
included 300 anytime minutes, unlimited texts, 500mb data
Handset cost £330
For me this was a good deal and probably the cheapest method of getting a HD7 right now.
Hope this helps.
I'm not sure what M$ plan is. They copied Android and just flooded the market with too many phones. There is no flagship device, which is what boggles me the most.
I wouldnt be surprised if they come out with a Zune phone. From what I've heard the Zune HD was a solid piece of hardware; I don't see why they cant make a phone.
They may just be waiting for some of the kinks to be worked out of windows phone 7 and launch it when the OS really has some legs under it.
It's a joke all I want to do is spend my cash on the phone of my choice! I've been a fan of HTC Windows phones for years I choose to use a Vodafone 12 month sim only contract to get the best value, surely this is gonna piss people off!
Went to my local o2 store today and had a mess around with one, really impressed and they had 2 payg in stock soooo tempted! The only thing is it looks like people are having problems unlocking them and it voids the warranty which could be a real issue with a new phone.
Really don't know why they would want to stop people buying it sim free?!

To you this may sound bad, to other non geeky people (ie the type of people who wouldn't be on here) it's excellent.
I've lost count of the amount of people I know who have bought a HTC Desire just because they want a HTC and have no idea what Android is. "Fanboys" can be a great asset, apple has shown that and there are a load of HTC, Samsung fanboys around atm. People will buy phones like the HD7 just because it's made by HTC and has a nice big screen, not because it has windows phone, that's just a bonus or they may not even be aware of what windows phone 7 is.
I've ordered it at Expansys Belgium, maybe you could buy it there as it wouldn't take too long to ship.
I've had a good look on other sites selling the hd7 and I'm a bit uneasy about doing that, so I'm going to my local o2 store to buy one today and unlock it. 2 questions though:
Is it only online purchased hd7s that are struggling to be unlocked? I live in a small town and there are 2 payg in stock chances are they are from the first batch so might still unlock?
When I do unlock it will I still be able to receive official updates from Microsoft or will unlocking it void my phone?
Thanks

Because in the UK it's exclusive to o2?
O2 probably paid for the exclusivity buy commeitting to xxx number of units, if your carrier hasn't got it, then complain to them for not giving the OEMs the cash. From some of the reports out their it looks like the industry wasn't backing this new OS and have been caught out by the demand.
I brought mine on PAYG on day 1 from O2 at £389 (uk pounds), sim free I think it will sell for at least £499 to £539). So O2 got exclusivity AND was able to knock a few pounds off for it's customers.
Got my unlock code from O2 over the weekend free of charge, will try it out tomorrow
I also bought mine for £389, on launch day (£379 + required £10 top up). I haven't even bothered taking the o2 sim out of its packaging.
Straight away I used a giffgaff sim that I had ordered (see giffgaff.com). I pay £10 a month for:
150 minutes,
unlimited texts,
unlimited data (with no fair use policy or cap),
No fixed term contract (I can walk away anytime, not that I'd want to at that price).
You can pay more for more minutes if needed.
The reason I can do this is because giffgaff are owned by Telefonica (who own o2) and runs on o2's network (much like how Tesco Mobile operates). Because of this I haven't needed to unlock my HD7.
Just last night I downloaded a game demo that claimed to be 81MB. I couldn't do that every night on pretty much any other operator as they have data caps.
Buying the phone on PAYG and using giffgaff is way cheaper than the £40x24month deal that o2 would like to lock you in to. I don't understand why more people don't do it this way.
The cheeky bit - if you'd like to sign up for giffgaff, send me a pm so I can get giffgaff to send you the sim. This way, we both get £5 free credit! I don't mean for this to be a spammy post, so sorry if it comes across that way. I just think this is a good alternative to getting the HD7 sim-free or unlocking it, and probably the cheapest way overall.

Has anyone got a RUU or other method 2.3 on their Bell Incredible?

I've tried goldcard with 3 different SD cards, tried it multiple tiimes even with the instructions from the downgrade bootloader walkthrough thread. Keep getting error 130.
I'm not impressed with the Incredible S so far, not so great signal reception... I sold my Desire for this? should have waited, everything else about it had me sold, but going from vanilla GB (villanROM) on my desire leaves much to be wanted.
I bought it earlier today... i'm considering walking into Bell and returning it for an Atrix.
I've heard that the bell version is tough to crack, but if you want my advice I wouldn't go for an attic, everone I have spoken to has been dissapointed with it. What other choices do you have?

Well i'm not sure if they will give full refund next day :S but the guy I bought it from said they do 14 days in store credit for sure.
Bell doesn't really have anything else that interests me, Galaxy S vibrant (meh) and Desire Z 4G (no thanks)
Telus uses the same bands/towers in Canada (that's who my provider is I just unlocked the IS) and they have the Nexus S which I was going to go for at first but no shops have it in stock.
I really should have just sat on my Desire for a while longer. I also have a Motorola Milestone...
I have both the Atrix and the Incredible S. I had similar reception issues on Telus and Bell's HSPA network. So far no issues on Rogers (in Red Deer, AB). I love my Atrix. I got an incredible S for the camera. So for I'm impressed with the incredible S but I did just get it last night.

You should be able to get a refund if the you have the phone for less than 14 days AND the talk time on it is less than 30 minutes.

Everyone I ask says the Atrix just isn't what they expected, it looks awesome on paper spec wise, but MotoBlur takes all the fun out of it.
My friend with a Nexus S says it seems very slow compared to his. The IncS has pretty much the same cpu and ram as the Nexus S so I think the advantages of dual core phones are yet to come and see no real world performance benefit as of yet.
I'm giving it some more time, and pretty much just playing with the IncS over wi-fi and testing it out and not using any talk time.
I've unlocked and rooted/updated my Moto Milestone in prep to sell it. I'll give myself a few more days to decide, but with no RUU/OTA working on it i'm left wondering what will be it's future.
Should have kept my Desire until there was more Dev support for either, but I did check through the forums here, I knew it wasn't rooted yet but thought I could get GB on it out of the box.
Spoke to a Bell employee, he told me that they are testing GB for IS atm but couldn't tell me the release date.
If it is just the Android version that's bothering you, I would wait it out.

Once you unlock the IS, you can't return it coz it voids the warranty.
But I'm using it on Fido, and I'm having no reception problems at all.
So when bell finally releases the GB update there will be an RUU for us to use for those of us who don't get an OTA right?

I don't really understand why some are saying that sim card unlocked phones won't get OTA. Sim unlocking is not same as rooting the phone, unless the OTA update also checks what carrier you are using lol..

Providers have access to the unlock codes, sorry it was actually Telus I contacted about a sim unlock before selling my Desire on the weekend, HTCs are easily unlockable... i'm sure Bell is the same.
I'm sure it was just an uninformed sales rep, or was just trying to prevent you from going to another provider or them losing the cash they would have made off it lol.
You can unlock here for $25
http://www.htcimeiunlock.com/
I'm positive that unlocking your SIM does not void your HTC warranty whatsoever since it does not alter the phone's software or hardware in any way other then "unlocking" it.
Perhaps it'll void your right to return/exchange the product, but in which case I doubt the store rep will even bother to check if the phone you are returning is unlocked or not...

I had contacted HTC a few weeks ago asking about this. Here's what they said:
With OTA software upgrades, it's a bit iffy. In some circumstances, update sofware is provided to local stores, who should be able to update the phone for you (policies on this differ from carrier to carrier, where some may be okay with updating an unlocked phone, and others won't).
Sometimes, a downloadable version can be found on our website for the phone in question:
http://www.htc.com/ca/support/incredibles-bell/downloads/
Each device has a specific address that it checks for its updates. Theoretically, the unlocking process shouldn't change that. Your device should still continue to recieve updates, however, it really depends on Bell's update policy when it comes to phones no longer on their network.

So my question stands... if Bell decides to be dicks about it (wouldn't put it past them ) and they don't push the OTA to our phones, will we be able to find an RUU somewhere that should work? (possibly on that link in the quote?)

[Q] Sim lock

Hey,
if I buy the phone at full retail price without contract, is it then locked for sim cards as well? I cant find this information anywhere.
I'm thinking about buying it and take it home to europa. Thats why im asking.
Thanks
It might be, considering it's on Verizon, but I'm not sure if it'd even work in Europe. It is, primarily, on Verizon's CDMA bands and presumably the SIM is only for roaming usage, I'm not really sure if it would work to just buy it in the US and take it back home.
You can buy the overseas equivalent, which is the Milestone 3 and should be available(if not now, then soon). The Milestone, unless I'm mistaken, is GSM primarily.
If I have undesrtood correctly, Motorola Droid 3 works on European WCDMA networks. They advertise phone like "3G works more than 125 countries".
I have same problem. I want Droid 3. I have heard only one comment about Droid 3 Europe edition. It says that Milestone 3 comes to Europe in Q3 or Q4. News also say that it will not arrive to UK.
Only problem on Verizon model is hotspot restrictions and contract needed. I don't want pay 30$ for 2GB, because unlimited data costs 15$, in Finland..

It is defenetly working, my question is now, do i get it without contract?
The thing about waiting and buying it when it gets released at europa is no point, because when i buy it now for 460$ in the us, it means 340€ (if you now a Stewardess you do not even pay taxes and shipping). When it gets released here it might be around 450€, normally they change it 1:1.

Yes, it is SIM locked even if you buy it at full retail price without a contract. If you're a Verizon customer and meet a handful of qualifications, Verizon will unlock the SIM free of charge. Beyond that, the only way to get it unlocked is to wait until some online vendors get codes for it. Once it's unlocked, it should work on pretty much any GSM network outside of the U.S.

[Q] Where to buy One unlocked in San Francisco

Hi all, a friend is now in SF and i asked him to buy for me a new Htc One.

I read that Sprint is a bit strange with the sim unlocking, so i don't wanna risk.
Instead At&t is possible to be sim unlocked with a code also using unlocking sites.
Btw, my friends says that At&t won't let him buy the phone until he does 3 months of contract..it sounds strange, maybe my friend don't wanna buy the One for me anymore
Right now with inventory issues, most carriers are unwilling to sell there phone out right. They are having a hard time fulfilling contract orders why would they sell you a phone by itself when throngs of people will buy it on contract. Only people I've seen buying it standalone is T-Mobile and that depends on what stores you go to.

[Q] Will an imported HTC ONE work in India?

Hi,
Many carriers like at and t , verizon offer a very low price for HTC ONE. The price was very reasonable too. But if i buy one (locked - contracted) and unlock it, will it work in India with airtel, idea etc?
It just costs 300USD for a 64GB HTC ONE for a 2 year contacted phone. Factory unlocked and third person unlocked are very pricey ( 400$ ) . So , if i buy one, will it work if i unlock it? If so, how do i unlock it?
Thank You
Hoping For an answer soon .

24.5k is an AMAZING deal
however, the phone needs to be a 'CDMA Global Ready' and must come with a removable SIM to work in India.

Sorry if im doing anything wrong, im new here ._.

If its a GSM phone, it will work bindaas
If its CDMA, then HELL NO
Verizon and Sprint WILL NOT WORK
The GSM phone will have to be unlocked though.
Just FYI, factory unlocked is a LOT more than $400
A new One will be at least 35K INR

raghav kapur is spot on. I have got 'like new' gsm phones from ebay and swappa ; sim unlocked them either via software or buying a 3 dollar unlocking service from ebay (there are many of them), and using it in India. I have no experience wiith CDMA phones.
Remember, official warranties never get transferred the moment you buy a pre owned phone. [ymmv as sometimes the US store associates help you out]
I will not recommend signing a US contract and terminating it. If you are not aware of how your credit rating is related to SSN and how it stays on your profile for long long time, please research about this. Credit profiles in US are little tighter compared to credit profiles in India. Further , warranty of US phones is not honored outside US.
Although pricier option, getting a factory unlocked phone 'MAY' give you global warranty and you can get service from India outlets too. Please double check before buying.

Actually Verizon will work. Ever since the HTC Rezound (Sensation XE clone for Verizon) all HTC phones made for Verizon are SIM unlocked and global ready. They have both GSM and CDMA radio radios in them. Albeit, the GSM radio only supports global frequencies so you have to be sure your carrier uses the same freq.
"Verizon: 800/1900MHZ, UMTS/HSPA 900/2100MHz,GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900MHz, LTE 700MHz (Band 13)"
from HTC's site on what the Verizon branded HTC one will support. Please understand what you are telling people before you say it will not work.

Source link click specs and scroll to "network" it shows each m7 brand and what frequencies it will support.
