Buying nook off Craigslist - Nook Color General

Ad says its running cm7. Anything I should look for or check to make sure I'm not getting screwed?
Sent from my Evo runnin Cm7 Windows Phone...

Don't pay extra because it has CM7 is on it. Installing CM7 is almost trivial now days. Going back to stock can be pain, not because it's difficult but because there are so many different tutorials and its confusing.
I would say skip it and buy one so you can hack it and learn. I wouldn't hesitate if the CM7 one is a good deal. You can pick up refurbed NCs for about $200 on line. If there is an issue with a refurb BN is pretty good about replacing it.

If it works good and looks good it should be fine. Read developers posts to set up the way you want. You can even put it back to stock if you want.

Someone smarter than I can probably give more details on this but I'm not sure it's a good idea to buy it with CM7 already installed. It might seem like a time saver but when I was playing with my girlfriends NC I wiped, cleared, did a bunch of stuff and when I went back to stock it would only let me register it with the ORIGINAL email and password. To put it another way, if they did not de-register the device before installing CM7 going back to stock will be (in my experience) a real pain in the neck since you have to have that original info to clear BN's opening screens and be able to attach the device to your email / account. There might be some simple way around this but I don't recall seeing it mentioned in the threads I've read. Personally I would rather buy one that is stock so I can just go in and click de-register and know it's done rather than have someone tell me it was and not know if they remembered things accurately. I'm sure a call to BN would eventually fix it but that's not much fun.

Thanks for the info.
Supposed to meet up tomorrow. Hope it goes smoothly. I been trying to find one for a while, but $250 is more than I can spend right now or I'd just get a brand new one.

I'll give you first hand why you should be wary of Craig's list with CM7.
Here's the 'scam' that's being run - these guys get a bad credit card or a bad check or whatever and buy the nook. Or maybe they just swipe one. As soon as B&N finds out, with a report from a store or from the stolen credit card, they blacklist the device. The actual device serial number is on the receipts, so they can do this.
Now, what that means is that you can't register the NC, no matter how hard you try. B&N won't unblacklist it, even if you're the "unknowing victim" here. If you're running CM7, no big deal. But if you want to run stock, you would have issues. And that's if you can live with having stolen merchandise.
After getting rooked like this, I just ask for the device serial number. If they're legit, they should have no problems giving it to you. Then just call up B&N and tell them you're buying a used Nook and you want to make sure that it's legit. They'll be able to tell you when and where it was purchased (by store #, but you can look that up) and whether it is blacklisted or not.
I had one someone was was selling one "New in the box" for $200. It was purchased in Atlanta on Friday and on Craig's list on Tuesday, 750 miles away. I don't think they realized what I would do with the serial number, but once I saw that, I knew it was a scam - why would anyone take a $50 loss on an unopened Nook 4 days after buying it?
Anyway, that's what to look for, be worried about, and how to allay your concerns, if you have any.

BTW make sure there's a sdcard. 2GB at least.

I think the first time I had to call them I used the-book and then they gave me another number at one point, but they should have been able to help you. I had no problems at all - called 3 different times and got answers and info.

Check eBay. Using PayPal can give you some protection and save some $$ sometimes. I got one used for $190 (stock) just to play with keeping the other stable.

Not entirely sure what the challenges would be other than power connections, Market access and possibly wifi protocols. I've read in Canada Google Apps shows different apps than here in USA so that might be applicable there. Not sure. I would definately check the power/recharge specs though. I'm sure there are other more knowledgable on this than I here who can chime in.

As we are not concerned about connecting to a Network, i dont think there should be any other issue. We are on Android, so connecting to a Market should be something easy to overcome!

Watch out on ebay sometimes you will find devices from european sellers for fair pricing, buy from oversea and you maybe make no advantage of the better price due custom duty
There are none other problems, get an power adapter and that's it, yeah it's true some apps are only accessable on the market with US based IP adress.

Some nookcolors have issues with screen sensitivity and registering phantom taps. I got mine at best buy and also bought the extended protection, so they will give me a new one even if I drop the device and crack the screen.

Did you format system, data, and cache before flashing CM7, or just wipe? CM7 is quite stable for me.

[Q] How Do You Like This Tab?

Hello, I'm thinking of getting the 7" Galaxy Tab (wifi only) and wanted to see what everyone thought about it. What are the pros/cons, and is this the best tablet out there for the money?
We currently have a rooted Nook, so I imagine it will be close to that (but better) - but that is my wife's. I wanted something for myself, something with great hardware performance, but also easier to carry around than an iPad2.
What do you guys think?
Galaxy Tab will be your choice for mobility and performance. After you root it and load with custom Rom , you will fall in love with it. My son loves it
I think that it's a good idea, but keep in mind that the Nook Color is really customizable and is offered at a low price. What you do get with the Tab is better performance, better screen, and... Well, just about better everything, except the price tag and the battery life.
However, consider getting the 3G version as well if you really plan to use the internet anywhere. It's fun!

Isn't it like $20/month? I'm going to be getting a Samsung Epic here soon, and I live in Kansas City so 4G is great here.
I was trying to avoid a monthly plan. Plus I'm also leaving for Paris at the end of August for 9 months. Didn't figure I'd be using 3G much while overseas...
I would avoid it - mine is laggy and expensive

The wifi version is crippled, go with the 3g. No h264 decoding, up to 720p only (and only in mp4!), and different hardware so you will need to get a custom rom for the wifi version, one for the 3g wouldn't work. Apparently they don't even have the same cpu...

Galaxy tab is the best . but why u wont wait for tab10.1 and don't tell me is big ..
yeah is big . but OMG
i would say that the gtab is the best device i have ever bought. i have no regrets purchasing it for the full price. no other tablet (thats out now) can compete with this 7" beauty. its the best 7" tablet on the market right now, hands down! screw the nook color. i use this thing every single day. its my main device, i carry only this device, no cell phone. battery life is great for its size. but after 6 months of using it, i feel like i need to upgrade it. i know this seems like a total 180, but i want a dual core version with honeycomb (and some more RAM) but with the exact same size. everything else is great! the only reason im saying this is because i consider myself a heavy power user (the elite of the elite) and i feel like sometimes it just doesnt keep up. but if ur not like me then this will feel like its blazin fast for you. since i know that i wont get what i want, i still recommend this to people considering a nook color something else.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038171
Have a look at this thread, it seems the wifi tab can only play divx at 720p and not h264 720p like the 3g can. If video playback is a major reason for buying the tab then stick to the 3g version!

The Tab is by far the best phone/tablet hybrid out there right now. The important factors to me are:
* size (pocketable)
* screen resolution
* build quality
* GPU acceleration for HD video
I took it with me last week while travelling around Krakow, Poland. Picked up a Polish Internet SIM for £10 or so. It was like having a personal guide at all times. Google Places, Tripadvisor app, email, websites. All there at the touch of a button, and all pocketable. An iPad would be useless for such a trip.
I think it's best to think of the Galaxy Tab as a sort of phone/tablet hybrid rather than just a tablet. Honeycomb will not be targeted at this device as physically it's as much a phone as a tablet. This is a good thing as Honeycomb tablets are too big to carry around town and are lacking in telephony. The OS update after Honeycomb will bring that OS's functionality for smaller devices, but for now it can seem an oddity as it needs a phone OS (Froyo, Gingerbread etc) to be fully functional.
As it stand though, there's nothing that can match it .
I originally bought the Viewsonic G-Tab because it had the Tegra 2 processor and Xoom like hardware. Even though the screen was 10.1" it was terrible to see from almost all angles.
I decided to exchange it for the wifi only Tab and I have not been disappointed. It looks great and I actually think I prefer the smaller screen than I did the 10.1 tablet. I find the weight is more evenly distributed in your hands and that I can more easily type since my hands can span the screen. It doesn't sound like a big deal but unlike my phone I find myself using this thing for hours at a time and holding the larger heavier tablet wears on you after a while.
The battery life is decent even with heavy use. The device feels sturdy and well put together. I think the touch is responsive and the glare on the glass is not any worse then the other tablets out there.
I know I have heard how the wifi version is not as good as the 3G version. Honestly, I have a Vibrant that I can tether off of and I don't need the 3G and added monthly costs. I am almost always around an access point anyway. It runs fast and downloads better than my phone. I would like to have custom roms to put on it but I rooted it and added VT-Launcher and it looks like a different tablet.
Finally, I looked at Honeycomb and those tablets. I really don't see the big deal. The 2.2.1 FroYo does everything that you would want from a tablet with the right apps. I can do everything I need to and then some. Honeycomb isn't going to add any capabilities that I don't already have. My only complaints with the Tab is that it doesn't charge with the USB from a PC (at least very fast) and that the VPN isn't working for me with PPTP right now. I have a call into Samsung and I hope to get that resolved soon. Otherwise, this is a great buy.

i'm still having doubts with my Tab (wifi version) since i'm unable to "use" its full potential. i didn't bother though getting the 3g version since i have a small phone at hand.
i'm a little unsatisfied but it's all good. i primarily use it for viewing and editing documents, surfing the net and some music and audio. that's pretty much it. if there's someone who'd be able to do a custom rom for the wifi version, then i'd be recommending this Tab.
I have both a Nook and a Sprint G-tab. If I wouldnt have gotten the deal I did on the G-Tab (company paid for it) I would return it. not that it is a bad unit, I am pretty pleased with it. My Nook has CM7 loaded on it and comparing the two comes out pretty much a wash. They are both great devices. I use the crap out of a tablet and both do everything that I want them to do.
Just my $.02 on the subject.

[Q] The Nook Color still worth it?

It just seems that since the 1.2 update, the NC is harder to root and deal with, having a lot of issues, like the market, etc.
Is it just me or am I just overreacting because I've been looking to buy one and I see all these threads about this and that isn't working, and all these more difficult looking procedures to fix it.
Still worth it?
It depends on what you are wanting to do with it.
I was running autonooter 1.1 and liked the stock B&N app.
I was waiting for autonooter 1.2 to get all the kinks worked out so I could keep my magazines that I have subscriptions for.
That all changed when B&N updated their App in the android market to include Books and Magazines/ Newspapers.
I installed CM7 nightly 72 over the weekend w/ the overclock and I don't see a reason to go back to rooted stock 1.2. Took me about 30 minutes to download the files and install the ROM. Been running perfectly.
In my mind the only reason to keep the stock software on the Nook is if you need to have access to the children's books. Otherwise, put CM7 on there.

The only issue I'm running into on CM7 beta 3.1 is the occasional system freeze requiring a reboot. No doubt that'll be sorted out soon. It's completely worth it if you put the right ROM on there.
1.2 is actually easier, i have market working, netflix, and oc to 1.2g all of my apps that I use work...having flash was the key for me and now I have it

IMO I have been running the CM7 stable off a uSD card and couldn't be happier.
Took me 20 minutes maybe to get the files downloaded and installed and I very happy I did.
Wish I had wait a day later because B&N updated the android app. If I had know that, I would have installed directly to the nook..... No card...
But, that said.... It's the best 250 bucks I have spent....
I have everything on it I need for a tablet and it runs very stable....
So... I read my books.... I watch my Netflix..... I read my e-mail.... I surf the net.... I play my games....
Lego
So it's still simple enough to root?
And is it better to run it off SD or try to make the eMMC work since B&N messed with it?
At this point, you might as well at least wait until the 24th and see what it is B&N are releasing. Personally, I think it'll be a Nook Classic refresh, but it'd suck to buy a NC and have it obsolete in a week.
Nah forget that. Everything is obsolete. I say get it.
It is very easy to root and I believe you will get the best overall performance installing to emmc.
Best 250 I've ever spent and it has totally replaced my laptop now that Netflix is working. Running Cm7.

If anything, it's a better deal now. The latest CM7 update (finally) fixed the battery / sleep issues. Plus, B&N updated their reader app for Android. I haven't tried it, but I've heard that it's now compatible with magazines.
This pretty much eliminates the need to root the stock version. I'm even running everything off of an SD card and the performance is fantastic.

I concur.
I haven't been able to put it down.
I would say it's definitely worth it. I use this more than my laptop or phone (both of which I use to use extensively). I'm hard pressed to come up with a device that I'd rather have in the near future. Most rooting and install procedures are fairly easy and only require a small amount of reading to understand.
And don't be afraid of all the "problems" popping up. Most of those are beta builds (which you don't have to use) or people not reading instructions properly.
absolutely worth it. I bought the iconia tab and used it for two weeks and returned it because I couldn't deal with all the force closes related to HC. So I picked up the nook couple days ago and love it. It came without the newest update. I rooted it and installed cm7 to emmc. I have harbor problems with it. Ad hoc tether works with no modifications flash works perfect market is there.
Don't bother with the autonooter to install on the SD card since the be nook app has everything except read to me.
All in all my rooted nook color performs far better than the iconia tab I bought. Well worth the $250!

Are you still able to mount CM7 to the eMMC based off that new thing with only 1GB is able to be used?
If everyone who doesn't know the difference between rooting, flashing, ROMs, SD, eMMC and all the rest would please read this blog post, http://quinxy.com/guides/how-to-pick-your-nook-color-operating-system-and-install-options/ then this discussion may turn halfway coherent. Some of the version numbers may be out of date, but it will get you somewhat grounded in what's what.
As someone partly said, most of the problems you see come about because
1) people don't read directions
2) they just get hooked on tinkering with the thing and eventually something goes wrong.
A lot of the "problems" aren't even problems so much as the geek equivalent of a bunch of guys standing around a muscle car talking about whether to put on spoilers or stuff a subwoofer in the trunk.
I was initially planning to set up some kind of dual-boot on eMMC, but saw a really easy method for getting an SD install running, as well as a good card recommendation, and decided to take CM7 for a test-drive first. It runs so smooth from SD, I just dropped in an OC kernel and let it be. A lot of people are jumping straight to the beta, but I'm getting much better performance from the latest stable build, CM7.0.3, and I can deal with 5-6 hours use and two days on stand-by until they work out the other kinks in the beta. Everything I used for my build is at the link in my sig.

But coming back from fairyland, the NC is a good value regardless of what comes out next week, which will probably be large-format e-ink and is almost certainly timed to keep the wind in the NC's sails, not leave it adrift.

I would be very surprised if it is some kind of upgrade to the Nook Color. B&N has to stay competitive with the $114 ad supported Kindle and I am guessing that this will be an e-ink reader in the $100-125 range or you could be right, it could be a large format reader. It seems unlikely that B&N would upgrade the Nook Color and then release a new one a couple of weeks later.
I have been lusting after the Asus eee pad transformer but that is mostly due to how much I love the Nook Color. I would never have considered spending more than $300 on a device like this but like an earlier poster, I use it more than my laptop or my phone.

Agreed.
Let me echo the thoughts of another poster: once the B&N Android App supported magazines, I saw no reason not to go with a CM7 install. I'm currently running Phiremod 1.2, and it's fantastic. Even though it's running the older kernel that doesn't put the machine into "deep sleep" I'm finding that battery life is great. It should easily last you all day. Just re-charge every night (which I do anyway) and everything is good.
I'm also loving the idea of the Asus eepad. I can't wait to go full Android and get windows (mostly) out of my private life for good. (Of course, as a Windows System Administrator it'll be a long time before I get Windows out of my professional life, LOL!)
I think we're still a couple of years off from Android becoming a viable OS alternative to Windows, but it won't be long, IMHO.
I have a rooted 1.2 with MN and I love this little baby!!! I overclocked stock rom to 1.1 mhz and it flies. I have had some visibility issues with the market but have been able to find most apps I want (had to sideload a few).
Now with the updated Nook app I might put CM7 or Phiremod into it but my stock OC setup works so nicely that I might hold off a little bit.
The 24th is near so I would wait and see but I dont think the announcement would be anything that makes the NC obsolete. My wishes for a NC 2?:
1. I think 7.5" or 8" would be an even better screen size, nothing bigger than that.
2. Native speed of at least 1mhz
3. Re design of the newspaper layout : keep the same format as today but add a "newsstand format" just like magazines, where I can see the ads and original formatting.
4. Bump memory to 1 gb
5. Gingerbread
Things I know I will never get:
1. Price drop to $225 or $200
2. on board GPS
3. Native full market access (as a tradeoff I'll let them block reader apps except Nook app)
3. Mini HDMI

Awww Cmon now gimmie a break. Im not important. If hes smart and theres no reason to think hes not then he will no doubt take into account everyones opinion here. You have 5 posts and your calling me out? Funny.
With that being said from what ive been reading the experts are expecting something to replace the E ink reader not the Nook Color. If they do release a Nook Color replacement well then is it really that big a loss? Does that make the Original that much worse? Not everyone is hung up on specs and even still the Nook Color has more room to grow.

I was the proud owner of a Nexus 4 for about... 4 hours

I was a bit confused as to whether I should create this thread under troubleshooting, or general, but decided on general since I'm not really looking to troubleshoot my device anymore; just looking to get thoughts and opinions.
After Google failing to put my order through for a long, frustrating week, I finally managed to place a successful order through. A pleasant surprise was when the phone shipped in one day instead of the 1-2 weeks the google store claimed.
So when I got the phone, I immediately did some basic testing (speakers, calls, internet, wifi, bluetooth, camera, etc), and when I was satisfied enough, updated it to 4.2.2 and unlocked the bootloader, flashed a custom recovery and rooted it. Then I got around to really using it.
When I was copying my music over (and I'm a music fanatic), I used up 10gb of the 12gb available. Why on earth would Google give us such low storage and omit an external slot? I knew about this before I bought the phone, but I think it really hit home when I copied my data over. I've read that it's because they want to push their cloud, but without truly unlimited network internet, that point is moot. Not to mention the fact that it's not capable of more than H+, so that's another point that counters constant cloud usage.
So I thought what the hell, slow internet (getting ~1mbps vs ~12mbps on my previous T989), low storage, I'll live with it. I'll change my habits and live with it, maybe swap music out according to my daily mood, and try to be on wifi most of the time.
And then the really big bad thing happened. When i was talking to a friend via bluetooth, I was fiddling with my phone trying to google something, and the internet wasn't working. I toggled wifi off and it was working on 3G/H+. So I reconnected WiFi and Bluetooth disconnected. After replicating a few times, I realized that if you're on wifi and in an active call, internet via wifi won't work at all. This killed the conversations I was having on FB, Google Talk and Whatsapp.
Had I not already been frustrated with the phone's storage and internet, I might have worked harder on trying to find a solution, but I'd had enough. I called a friend and handed the phone over to him, and he'll hand over his used but mint-condition S3 this evening when he's had a chance to copy his data over. The S3's a decent phone, and it's solving all three of my current major issues.
Since the speed and storage are clearly marked, I'm just going to say I was stupid in not really realizing these things before I went "ooh, shiny!!", but that wifi/bluetooth bug seems to have been a persistent problem for a while now, a well-reported bug.
Anyway, I just had to rant a bit. What are your short or long-lived experiences with this device?
The only reason I would trade it for an s3 is to sell the s3 on ebay and then buy another nexus 4 with some money left over.
Sorry you didn't like it. Hope you have a better experience with your new phone!
Ive owned every nexus phone and this one by far is my favorite. Absolutely love it an havnt had a single issue with it. I do agree that i wish they gave the phone more storage but ill never use up 16 gb anyway
I had a note 2 and like it a lot, I had a gs3 before that, but I lie stock Android look and and cm10 always end up having some sort of bug, storage wise I'm not too happy but j realize I don't listen to all my 10gb of music so I keep only 2-3gb, I do play games but at the same time I don't play all, I try to maintain all the apps I actually use, the gs3 and note 2 does take better pictures tho, but the gs3 doesn't feel as snappy as the note 2 and the note 2 screen is great for content but too bug for work sometimes, so far I'm happy with the nexus 4
Btw I'm guessing you still want the phone since you posted here

I sense a lock coming.
I really do like the phone, yes. Maybe I'll get over my issues, I traded with a friend so I can get it back without an issue. We'll see.
My review, studied it, ordered it, got it, use it. "It" is good.
Why don't you upload your music to Google music and stream it? Then you can have all..

Not sure why you are having slow internet. Wi-Fi on mine is perfect.. Hspa+ is very fast also..
This is a great phone...
I wonder how much it costs for an unlocked s3... No thanks

The N4 isn't for non-tech enthusiasts. The vast majority of N4 owners derive great pleasure in modding their phones, improving and troubleshooting issues. That's why it's not considered or even marketed as a phone for the mass of consumers.
With that being said, the S3 is a much simpler phone, though I hate the hardware too much to say anything nice about it.

The slow internet could just be because I don't get good Tmobile coverage everywhere, but the T989 still gave me ~12+ in the areas the N4 gives me ~.8-1.2mbps. I've found a possible workaround here on xda for the biggest issue I have (the bluetooth/wifi issue), it has to do with buggy Qualcomm drivers. I'll test it out. As for constant music streaming, it would kill my 2gb 4G limit in a week, after which they'll push me down to edge for the remainder of the month.
And yes, the S3s pricier, I'd never consider it if I wasn't getting it in an even trade.
Thanks for the replies and feedback guys, you're making me want to go get it back from my friend. It is no doubt a great phone. Now going back to work, my boss won't be too pleased!

The main reason for my wanting to create this thread wasn't to "hear myself talk", but to share my thoughts and experiences with enthusiasts who have the same device, and to hear their constructive experiences and feedback.
16GB is enough more than enough for me. 2GB of music, 85-100 apps 1.6GB. I don't let pictures/video linger on local storage. Use space more efficiently.
10GB solely music is over 1,200 tracks, Jesus.

Exactly. I understand people love music, I do. But you even bringing up that fact that you couldnt have every song you've ever downloaded on your phone as a negative is just retarded. Im sorry. Definitely,a cool story bro. Have fun with the S3.
*side note* maybe you should post this in the S3 forum. I never got why people make threads in the phone section that they are getting rid of as like a final "screw you" to the phone. Just sayin..
Ummm.... What's the point of this thread again ?

Why Google Why

I know its forbidden as far as asking for ETAs, but does anyone have any insight or guesses when Google is going to release the new SDK and lift the restrictions? I mean are they totally redoing the SDK or are they just tweaking some stuff. Well better yet do we know if google is even going to go further with the chromecast, or abandon it basically like the Nexus Q. Just wondering peoples thoughts....hopefully someone can give us some kind of a hint.
Thanks

Reader's server costs didn't outweigh the money they made from ads.
wave still exists, just not worked on by google.
the other device in the list (nexus q) was canned before it was released. It only had a few more features than a chromecast but was $400. They canceled it because no one was going to buy it.
THis device has been a huge success and google could barley keep up with sales.
mine just came in the mail today and i ordered it on 7/25/13
I am also a tad disappointed....
4 weeks in and we have seen nothing as to new app's.
With these things selling like hotcakes and being sold out everywhere, I would have thought that we would have seen something by now.
If Netflix and Google tv/movies work, what could possibly be holding up the likes of Hulu/HBO/Showtime etc?

I think they knew Netflix had to work in order to sell it. By only having to deal with one partner, they can work with them to modify the SDK pretty easily. The whole thing seems to be a beta test at this point. Once they feel it is ready, they will push it out to everyone else.

no not in total but the fact that google had to cancel the netflix offer in just a few hours or so means they sold well. Google even said it was "due to overwhelming demand."
Also the fact that places were running out of stock so fast means demand was higher than supply and if you know anything about economics you know that means its doing very well. (well because its something mass produced and intent on selling, i guess that rule wouldn't nessessarly count for some rare item)
heck some guy told me he bought 3 and sold them on craglist or something like that for like $75 each I think and he kept the netflix codes.
I can't believe you guys are already freaking out google is going to abandoned it before the final sdk is out.

Heck I went ahead and started searching with bing just in case!
Honestly at this point even if google, amazon and samsung all stopped supporting and using android it wouldn't die.
Android is pretty much here to stay for the foreseeable future.
Well I bet they are mass producing them now...its a no brainer at $35 and also at the perfect price of being an "impulse buy" my god its better than a droid 1 phone minus the screen amoung a few other things.

[Q] How to root Asus Memo Pad 7 (me176c/me176cx) 2014 version

Hello, I just recently bought the Asus memo pad 7 and have been looking on how to root the device. This model is different from the 2013 model which is the me173x. I have the me176cx, which is Intel based. I was going to use the framaroot app but it isn't officially supported and there aren't any posts about this model since it recently came out within the last month. So I'm pretty much asking if anyone has ever rooted the device? It's on android 4.4.2 too. Thanks.
Just bought the same device, want to root too. Tried UnlockRoot, didn't work.

I recently bought a Asus Memo Pad ME176cx, KitKat 4.4.2. The microSD card I bought for it is nearly useless because the OS prevents most apps from writing to the microSD. *grrrr*
I want to store dictionaries and maps on the microSD. I'll give up some security for the convenience of having more and removable storage. Google & Asus, are you listening, do you care at all?
Any workarounds I have read about require rooting.
I really want to root this thing soon.
On the 4.4 Google removed the permissions to apps write in SD.
Unfortunately, can't find any root to the device.
I'd like root for this device as well. It's not as necessary as you'd expect but I like full control of my systems and devices. Should we start a bounty?
I hope someone root this device. I need to put my apps in the sd card.
I wish you guys all the luck in busting open this device. It was a nice tablet except for being locked down. Unfortunately my solution was to return the MP7 and buy a refurb Nexus 7. If the MP7 gets root and CyanogenMod, I'll get one and give my wife the Nexus.
Don't worry guys. Like in every new tech one has to analyse and test solutions.
It's not impossible. I have the same tablet. Bought it on Staples for €160.
I believe it will be the future of tablets. judging by these antutu benchmarks:

Funny that ASUS have no details of how to install CE on it anywhere on the support site. Not that I'd go down that path anyway - throwing WinMobile on it gives you less chance of full system control than what you get from gaining root with Android...
All good, a bit of patience will get Towelroot working with the new changes to the Android kernels, and we'll be happy again...

Why thank you djshotty but you see, Staples hasn't ripped me off. My government did. All because we have a stupid law in Portugal that whatever you buy, has an enviroment tax plus VAT plus whatever Staples ask for, plus the gas/tires i spent to get to the store equals €160. (Yes, I can add)...
I know, i know, you bought it online (i presume). But the thing is, I hate buying stuff online. Most especialy if the store is in another country. All because if something goes wrong with the delivery, you can go ask sainta for a new (in this case) tablet... That said, I don't think it was a rip off considering what I said above.

You obviously only read the bit about you getting your tablet at a much higher price than I paid, yet not taking any notice of my comment that I purchased the item from a retail store, over the counter, off the shelf and in my hands immediately. JB Hi-Fi are one of Australia's biggest retailers of electronics and media (CD's, DVD's, BluRay). Enjoy the device, mate, because once we get 'root access' and rid it of all the rubbish included with the stock firmware we'll have a powerhouse for minimal outlay...

someone tried to quest softwares x the root?
I can not xche and in order
Kingo doesn't work, or at least it didn't as of my previous post in this thread.
Also looking for a root method
I just ordered one of these myself and am hoping for a root method. I've read that sometimes Asus actually post a way to fully unlock the bootloader (eventually) on their site because with tablets there are no carriers involved and they don't care if you do this especially as it voids your warranty and basically gives them a free pass if sometime stops working later. Not sure if this will actually happen for this device but would be nice.
Otherwise, hoping some brilliant minded android dev out there figures out a way....

Same as you, cos there's a heap of bloatware in the stock ROM that I'm hopeful of keeping away from my seven year old daughter. Not only that, but the bloatware takes away from the full RAM bandwidth and processor power, even after disabling those apps in Settings...
Just picked one up from Amazon for $135. I have every confidence that before long the geniuses at this fine forum will have this pretty little tablet rooted and kicking a** before long. With a quad core atom, yes, it will be a power house. First, the bloat ware will go away, then a month or two later Cyanogenmod will be running on it with nightly's.
