[Pointless] Thank you, XDA - Off-topic

I've been on these forums for a long time, though mostly as a lurker.
I've learned so much here.
I've seen so many people sharing so much great information, FREELY!
I've met so many great people here, who want nothing more than to contribute to the community (ie: you and I) with their massive intellect.
When I think about the over all spirit here, and the mature and open conversation that goes on... it almost gets me all blubbery and wet-eyed.
I have a Transformer TF101, a Nook Color, Nexus One, G1, G2, and Droid. I've been through those forums, and the community is universally incredible. I haven't seen much of the other forums, but I feel that I can safely bet that the community and massive knowledge there at least rival that of the other forums I've lurked on.
I am sorry for taking up forum space with a pointless post like this, but I just wanted to say how much I appreciate everything you guys do - all of you! Even if you aren't a coder, those of you who maturely and openly contribute to the conversation are just as awesome.
Thank you guys. I hope one day I will be as much of a code ninja as some here are, so that I can contribute to some of these major projects that just seem to come together so beautifully and effortlessly here, as you'll see nowhere else.
Thank you.

I'm still learning

[DEV] Blackstone Android development

I'm starting a new thread for discussion focused on development of the linux kernel and android porting. The thread we've been using recently was started by xmoo, who is no longer involved. Another thread started by tuxhero is focused only on his personal project and a lot of user support, so we need a more technical thread.
I'll jazz it up a bit when I get time.
Here's a first contribution.
We don't have enough buttons on the Blackstone. All the builds so far have 4 (receiver up, home, back and receiver down, as per the icons on the bottom of the device). Android is easier to use with a menu button too, so here's a kernel where the bottom row is remapped to 5 buttons. Imagine instead of the 4 icons you have five, with MENU in the middle. The others are shifted outwards slightly to make room for the "invisible" menu button. It's not an ideal solution, but I got used to it pretty quickly.
Instructions: whatever build you're using, unzip and replace the zImage file on the SD card with this one (tested on the 0.2 build from tuxhero's thread)
Hope more techies join this thread to get the desired results.
Personally I'm waiting to see if Tuxhero is actually going to solve any of the hardware problems. I'm open minded about this, on the one hand his previous grand claims came to nothing. On the other hand, he can clearly hack kernel and probably hack android so perhaps there are great things to come. I'd like to see more than a kernel and android build borrowed from other people's projects, or at least if he's going to rebadge open source products, to adhere to the GPL by releasing his sources so others can learn from them. One thing he might need to consider is whether Google's lawyers, in the light of the Cyanogen case, will be happy with him accepting donations while redistributing their IP.
at least he renamed the "name" of this release from "vogue linux" to "blackstone linux"..
was funny to read that..
That's nice guys. Wait i will post link to your thread and get more people to you.
I really like it guy. If i don't see all this crap then i will sleep peace fully now that ur there to keep me
reminded abt my project and get me back to work on my project. Please don't stop guys because you are the reason for my work.
Beautiful. I will try that 5btn mapping, didn't even think it was possible, thanks!

When i want to start every thing from beginning you are the one who shouted at me now when i accepted my mistake and joined other dev and working together and using old work you are the one shouting again. Are you mentally retarded?
What's ur problem patp? My donation? My Kernel? My Android? My Project?
What the hell is your porblem.
Woah woah woah. Guy's atleast we've seen dome decent progress from Tux aha!
I don't know Tux very well. But he's a very hardworking person, he also contributes a lot to this forum and i'm sure some others too.
i saw in the last project he had how much people like you flamed him, me and a lot of other people stood by him and saw progress, so i'll carry on sticking by him.
Finding funny things to read? aha how pathetic, i'd like to see someone who has never made a mistake of some sort.
The only mistake Tux actually made was releasing android beta in a community where people like you can get to it. However, me, like most other people are thankful for his work, if you don't like it, ignore it, don't joke and flame about it.
Keep up with the good work Tux.
From my opinion, tuxhere is the ONLY reason andorid is working on blackstone. Other teams tried, HE DID IT!
I'm very glad and proud of his project and i think he is the track we need to follow and help.
Tuxhero, you have my entire support.
For all others, i think we can all help and learn but we can't say bad things about tuxhero and his work because when i tmatters to android in blackstone, he is the man!

+1 to DanMccoy1, my support goes to TuxHero too, no offense to patp but I think you are diverting from the topic of your own thread. Neither google nor you or anyone can stop me supporting or donating to TuxHero. If your thread becomes fruitful then I may support/donate you too..
Be cool
I don't like the "fifth invisible button" solution, it's not elegant.
Imho the long press solution tux proposed is better.
Flaming is not the way to have android working on our device...

Nice mood you bring in here.
I don't know you, but reading your story you seem a bit frustrated.
And by the way, XDA is all about accepting donations while redistributing stuff....Are you going to warn all the cooks to..c'mon dude..
So i wish you a happy time and good luck in your own topic here.
He's leading the way for other developers too. In an open community like this you can't work against eachother all the time. Tuxhero is trying to bury the waraxe, but patp seem to continue beeing an asshole. Hope it gets sorted out real quick, wouldn't have any of the project dying due to some idiotic personal conflict.
patp atleast from day 1 i am trying to do something and never give up but what u did?
come to xda ones every day post some crap and get away but me i say online on xda 90% of my time i work on this project 80% of my time even in office i work on this project keeping it hide from my boss. When u did some thing then do post some time. If i see another post from you about me then my actions will be very very serious.
Thanks For The +1 pkshr
All im getting from this is how jealous patp is that Tux carried on with his own 'personal project' and succeeded.
patp, if i was you i'd stop it now before i made even more of a fool of myself in front of more people, because people are going to read this, and you may have the odd person that dislikes Tux that flames him for you, but theres always going to be the majority of people backing Tux on anything he does for this community.

Still, hats of for the releases u have made. Like patp i'm waiting for the next release. Good to see that u are sharing code and progress with the other devs nowadays.

You are correct chetan. But this guy twist words very nicely what ever i do that is wrong for him. what i understood from his words is he want me to close project, thread everything and go away i think he is not happy to see Android running on Blackstone many he works for Microsoft.

Much respect to the XDA-developers community

My wife just bought an iPhone 3GS, she doesn't like HTC, prefers monkey proof devices and had an iPhone 3G for a year.
I was asking for some help on an iPhone forum, well the quality of help and the members realy s*cks, I'm talking about a well known forum with 100.000 members.
Now I really do realise what luck we have to have a community like XDA with people and dev's who spend time to help others.
Just wanted to show my respect and say THANK YOU for all the good things that happen over here...
RESPECT!
I second your opinion...here you do get the help and support that no one provides. Great post man!
Yep, XDA Rocks! Salute`
Long live xda!
AYE AYE
glad your all happy with our site
i must agree with you on some of the iphone forums i have been on.....not nice
agreeeed!!
XDA RULEZ!!
who like the ice-phone anyway(s)?
its all cause its got good apps...
hehe everyone over here has the same opinion, XDA rulez indeed!
please don't start flaming the iPhone, it's a good monkeyproof device for people who don't want to customise or just want something out of the box, the proof that we are more advanced users is that we are all here on XDA-forum

Do you like writing?

Hey all,
I'm an avid web developer and major time Android fan, I'm looking for a few people that also share my passion for Android - people that have well profound English skills.
I am in the process of developing an Android blog, whilst this may seem unneeded and a tad bit of extra competition to the many other well established blogs, I am sure that my upcoming blog will surpass all other blogs due to the content, context and a secret few features which I disclose at this current time.
All writers, will receive many benefits such as free products, applications as well as money (which is produced based on the amount of interaction with the community and views of your articles).
Sadly, I cannot enclose all the required documents, benefits or features of the upcoming blog but all will be clear once you're part of the team.
PS. I hope this is not against the rules of this forum as I post this in all respect.
Thank you.
UPDATE: Please visit http://www.droid-insider.com/2011/04/13/welcome-home/ for more information.
I must say SMCentral, I am VERY interested. I am a long time fan of Android and just fan technology period (especially in the mobile space). I believe I can provide some great insight into what you are trying to accomplish in your blog, if your willing to give me the opportunity of course.
I like writing poetry. it comes naturally. I've been told I was born before my time. Did and IQ test and apparently I am a Word Smith. I guess that helps.
I've contacted everything whom sent me PMs and posted in this topic.
If you are still interested, please do not hesitate to reply to this topic or send me a PM.
Thank you.

Wow - it's been a long time since I've looked at this topic. Sorry for bringing this topic back from the dead, it's just because that I felt a bit disrespectful creating a new topic for the same topic.

This forum

I have been on xda since my hero days so its been a few years. Didn't join til too long ago. Made some good pals along the way and learned tons.
So far this forum for me is a breath of fresh air. The phone forums are so full of hate, trolls, attacks, name calling, disrespecting developer's work and the usual douche stuff.
Of course its here too, just no where near as bad yet. Yet. I hope it stays that way because its so much nicer to thank people than report them.
This may be a gay post but some mods fell the same way. Anyway, glad I got the n7 and glad I'm here.

Yeah this has been awesome, reminds me of the HD2 forums, at least back when nand android became available, the vivid forums are crazy, these ones are nice.
This forum and the AT&T One X forums have been the best. The OG EVO 4G forums were good in the beginning but it got worse and worse over time. Same thing goes for the Epic 4G Touch. I know I'm guilty of some warranted snarky responses from time to time (Search first!) but I never actually attack anybody on a personal level like I've seen in some other subforums. We are all here for the same purpose so why can't we all just get along?

Just be glad this isn't like the prime forum was in its earlier days..lol. nexus 7 forum is cool. Since I'm unlocked and running custom kernel, I'm more into developement scene now. Never any issues in there. Only everyone working together to put out the best/most stable stuff. NEXUS 7 is an aAzimg little 7in. Tablet. I would've never thought the experience on it would be this good.
Give it time. This forum will degrade just like every single other forum on here.
Not trying to trash XDA, but it just isn't the same community it used to be.

Yep, the more popular a device gets, the more trolling and flaming becomes a problem. It's inevitable.
XDA is legit in general, probably one of the nicest put together forums on the web. The new layout really sets it off.

When your getting the latest updates and everything is flowing as promise there's nothing to ***** about ... besides to Google ...
Its when you go on the older threads where people are angry because they can't get a working ICS build or even a jelly bean .. or too many noobs bricking their devices
It will turn in to that ... after time
The Epic 4G touch forums got real nasty after ICS n the brick montage

It was all fields and everyone used to be on first name terms with each other.
Then the devices came, then they got popular then the neighbourhood went to pot.
>Then the devices came, then they got popular then the neighbourhood went to pot.
Why, when I was your age...
Pining for the golden yesteryear is a popular pasttime, but it's usually distorted by people's selective memory. Reminescing is futile anyway. What matters is how XDA manages the additional influx while still retaining some semblance of its core identity, and not let itself lapsed into another generic techie hang-out.
The dev sub-forum restrictions have been the main instrument in that. But it would be nice to see more care in other areas. The site's UI and layout was never good--check out the classic vs 2010 vs 2013 beta layouts--and now has turned for the worse.
We're not just talking about personal preference for aesthetics, but dirt-basic design concepts like text reflows vs fixed-width. The basic web UI now has orange-on-white. Who thinks up this stuff?
It would also be nice to see more creative solutions to navigate the huge traffic volume and decreasing sig2noise ratio. The most-recent-on-top scheme and the encouragement of long threads effectively bury most valuable info, as informative threads tend to have few inputs, and are pushed off by argumentative or more inane material. I suppose XDA is shackled by its forum software here, but one can hope for better.
Then again, maybe not.
I was a regular over at the SGT7 forums for a few months, didn't see too much name calling and stuff like that.

Don't take this the wrong way but when the US market opened up the s/n ratio plummeted.
Kids will be kids, wherever, but the US teen speaks a dialect of English and this is a predominantly English forum.
There are many native French & German / Nordic fora although many non native English speakers from Europe speak and type better English than many English teenagers and have better manners.

>Don't take this the wrong way but when the US market opened up the s/n ratio plummeted.
I live in the US, although I'm not a native, so I empathize both sides of the coin.
That said, attributing the deterioration of online communication to any nationality or ethnic group isn't a grounded argument. English is still the lingua franca of the Internet at this point, and the US user population is still the largest group. Failings from them tend to be magnified by their numbers.
I agree that there is a marked decline in social/communicative exchanges online. It's a little sad to see people don't even bother to correct obvious spelling mistakes, let alone correct grammar. Any attempt to better such is derided as grammar nazis.
But it is what it is, and it reflects the population at large, who also exhibited a marked decline in analytic thinking and social discourse. No amount of handwringing or reminescing will change that. And it is an equal-opportunity malaise in that it affects every online population, not just the US population.
It's kind of sad...
It's a bit like saying the Nexus 7 forums only murders 10 innocent children a week so it's not as bad as other forums who murders at least 100 innocent children and their mothers on a weekly basis.
It's unfortunate but unless the moderators are extremely active (and well-staffed) chances are the trolls will ruin it for everyone sooner or later.
Especially now it's the summer and there is nothing pimply-faced 13-year-olds like to do more than to troll forums in between playing the latest shooter on their MicroSony PlayBox, stuffing themselves with greasy pizza and masturbate.

Andromeda Epsilon Smartphone startup

Hi everyone!
Now I have bin designing a lot of phones as concepts and with that i keep learning more and more. Now i get a lot of mails about people asking me to join them in there bisnuss and design for them. Now I had this before and that was all a social test which cost me a lot of time.. But now! It's finally time to start something with a group of people.
Ryan of Andromeda came to me asking me if I could be there designer and well that's what I have bin doing now and I have bin working hard on creation a great design but also one that is great in the hands!
With that we started to go to the first fase and in this we started a Gofundme page, If you guys have time it would be great if you could look at it for now I will place renders within this thread and I wish to invite you to watch the phone and maybe help us get there by either donating or sharing the page! every single bit of help is welcome!
Mod edit: Link removed
It would be a great honor.
What I am doing in Basic is designing the phone and I would also do the commercials, animation and right now also wallpapers.
I worked hard on getting here and I truly hope it can go furder then this and do this as a job!
We will also send when all is furder devices to good reviewers to make the best device we can in design and experience!

Okay, why should I (or anyone) fund you? It looks like the only thing your company has now are some renders. You're throwing around all these high end specs but your company has no experience designing phones. You're in the early stages of development and you're already quoting $549 as the price? You seriously think you can offer a high quality phone with these high end specs? The other major players in the market already have tons of experience, tons of connections. I suggest instead of trying to crowdfund, you try to get actual investors on board. Good luck!
Sorry, but XDA isn't here to help you make money, regardless of the cause.
