7 days with CyanogenMod 7 - Off-topic

This is work in progress and I will update it for 7 days. Original posting can be found here
I'm sure you have heard someone telling you would spend way too much time with your smart phone. As if one could spend time with or without a tool. My phone, besides some rare occasions, is always with or near me. Yet it doesn't mean I spend time with it! I spend time with people, and I might spend my time spending time with using my smart phone to write an email. An if I spend time adjusting it to my needs or the latest desire aroused reading some blogs, so what? I do this for the sake of communication!
How come nobody understands that find difference in concept?
Day 1
25/05/2011, 11 a.m.:
Been checking my emails on the go twice, surfing on xda forum, chatting with the HTC support, writing an email to a friend, again checking my mails but also the market updates - what a pain to see there are no updates available for my installed apps. I check if it is not Sunday. No it’s not Sunday!
I discover how handy Evernotes can be. Copied an address out of the chat conversation and send it straight off to Evernotes. Must admit it was a little fight until I had marked the exact text line I wanted to have copied as it did not recognize it on its own. It would have blown me away had it read my thoughts.
I’m really thinking about one of those tables all the time. I’m kind of pissed somehow about the unfortunate fact there is no real handwriting recognition function on phones or tablets yet that really works - would be mind-blowing! I read the HTC Flyer does make advanced use of the stylus pen for note-taking somehow. I’ve seen some handwritten notes and compared them to the scribbling I am producing this very moment on real paper and there doesn’t seem to be that much of a difference.
However, I will have to type that later and I question this concept of me thoroughly doing it without giving up after a couple of minutes.
I’ve had way too many thoughts die due to the lack of an adequate and effective tool to digitalize my thoughts. I’m way much more impressed by my analogue brain-eye-arm-paper-to-key motion sequence I’ve happily produced as I realize I have really typed and added almost everything I wanted to say.
25/05/2011, 5.51 p.m.:
I wonder if I should give cyanogen latest night builds #87 a try again and get rid of my perfectly working Android Revolution ROM setup. I’m downloading, charging and backing up my phone for every eventuality...
Day 2
26/05/2011, 5.33 a.m.:
I have CyanogenMod Nightly Build #87 setup & running. Will see how it gets through the day. Fingers crossed the battery will not drain exaustingly.
26/05/2011,5.45p.m.:
In the mood for taking some screenshots and willing to do a brief review of my cyanogenmod 7 experiences...
Day 4
28/05/20011, 7.55.a.m.:
Can't hardly believe I haven't changed that much. Phone is working pretty fine, except there seems to be a problem between Fullscreen Caller ID and the call recorder that came with the modified kernel I flashed yesterday. I just won't use FSCI, instead, when I make a phone call it will try to use both the default dialer as well as the full screen dialer as the same time. The result is devastating: it will dial the number twice.
Day 6
30/05/2011, 1.53 p.m.:
Left home at 7.30 pm, battery went down to 51% by 12 a.m. and 32% by 2 p.m., whilst all I did were a few twitter & google mail updates, no phone calls, watching videos or other heavy-consuming processes.
Seems like the un-official CM7 nightly ROM I have flashed (Chezbell-cm7-20110529) is a battery killer! SetCPU is enabled, with a powersave governor profile activated when display is off, undervolted –25mA script running and I am nevertheless more than half-way out of battery within not even 7 hours – not really a full working-day yet!
Feeling unhappy and unsatisfied, after that the phone had been running so smoothly during the weekends ( some heavy 3G and EDGE-surfing in bad reception areas, gps navigation etc etc without a problem and far less battery drain). Phone was way more responsive with CM7 #87. Will switch to LORDmodUE 2.1 kernel tonight and see if it helps.
Day 7
31/05/2011, 3.13 p.m.:
I did it! I ruined it all! My sd card is totally erased! Holy frigging s’#!§t! What happened I still can’t recall exactly but I guess in any case I should learn to be more careful and most important: read and think before I act! I flashed a kernel while surfing the xda on my way home and now I don’t even find that stupid thread.
I guess it is a good point to stop my documentation now and draw my conclusions of my 7 days with cyanogenmod nightlies now.

Admins: please delete this thread. I've posted it to HTC DesireHD thread as I think it is more suitable...

new rom

Have any of you seen this thread by Cornflipper at PPC geeks? :
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=109527
I just took the plunge and flashed, I hope this is legit, well if not.... that is what insurance is for right? lol
So, I flashed it and it seems to be a little more stable, it has a new sys and new Radio..... I hope it turns out to better than stock, it will make waiting for the HSPL a little eaiser.
Flashed the new rom last night basically for the new radio ( 2.25 ). I ran it for a couple of hours before I put Sense 2.5 2011 back on it. The radio is better where I live ( I got an extra bar at home ) and the calls seemed a little clearer with more volume. Data and sms seem smoother and the rom seems a little faster and smoother. I do like it better .
After having this rom on for a day or so , the the thing that really sticks out is that there is virtually no memory leak , I can't believe it ! My free memory has been at 52 - 56% all day . Was worth the flash.
I jumped on this and I have to say, I'm really happy that I did. The device is notably more 'snappier' than it was. I never really had much of a memory leak problem, but I'm seeing slightly less memory usage than I typically do.
No problems at all updating, either. The installer that was posted on the first post of that thread worked out of the box for me, painless and easy. Just a re-sync to get my contacts back and some reconfiguration was all that was required. Cornflipper is my hero
One thing I noted that I like, and maybe it was there in the stock ROM and I just missed it during setup, was the ability to set the multimedia button to launch the TouchFlo Music tab. While the music app still seems pretty laggy/slow with a 10GB library on a storage card, being able to use that button makes me happy. If only I knew how to set the volume granularity under TouchFlo. (WMP still makes a better MP3 player mode for now IMO)
Not sure about battery usage, I went down to 90% pretty fast, but I've been downloading/reinstalling a bunch of things. Radio does seem to stay 3G instead of 1X better than it did as well.
I recommend. Nothing appears to have gotten worse.
edit: It also seems that the data connection will turn itself on by default now after soft-resetting the device, which is new for me. It was always OFF for me unless I turned it on manually. Data conn still dies when powering the phone off, though. I've had issues with data crapping out randomly, maybe that will be fixed too, but haven't had the ROM long enough to know one way or the other.
edit 2: I thought I took a major hit in battery life today, without even using the phone for anything it was down to 50% after being unplugged for 9 hours. However, it also charged back to 100% in about 15 minutes, so it looks like flashing the ROM messes up the battery gauge again. Using my original trick of charging, unplugging, charging, unplugging ... until it just won't charge anymore. Worked when the phone was new
I highly recommend it!
I have to agree with the concensus over at PPCGeeks . . . this rom ROCKS!
One of the bigest things for me is that A2DP starts automatically now. When I get into my car and start one of my Podcasts, it imediately plays through the car stereo; I don't have to go ino the BT settings and start it!
The memory leaks seem to have been fixed for the most part - it starts at 52% after a restart and only creeps up a bit from there. I also see far moe 3G coverage than with the old ROM.
I can't say that I have noticed any battery improvement though . . . but it is certainly no worse!
If you haven't updated yet . . . what are you waiting for?

BRosenow... did you do anything to get it to start automatically? I'm not that lucky. Also, is your BT sound of poorer quality? Mine sounds kind of crappy and I think it's the phone b/c my old phone sounds pretty good. Any thoughts? Thanks!
Official ROM available on PCD Phones
The official ROM is available on PCD Phones website. I'm going to assume it's the same.

No, I didn't do anything special . . . in fact I noticed it by accident. Since this was a problem with the previous ROM I stopped using it, but one day I just started playing a PodCast when I got into my car and it played through the radio. I was pleasantly surprised!
I can't say that I have noticed that the sound quality is lower (I mostly listen to spoken-word Podcasts, so quality is not a big issue), but I do notice a half-second pause from time to time. It's a bit annoying, but not a big deal considering what I'm listening to - if I was listening to music I imagine it would be VERY annoying!
Installed - but WORSE memory mgmt?

So I upgraded to the latest and greatest and have seen worse behavior in memory management. I used to be able to go a number of days without rebooting, now memory shoots from 58% upon boot to 70% in a few minutes. Exact same applications installed, nothing new but the ROM.
I've also had strange issues where the phone doesn't always ring -- screen lights up, but no ringtone.
Anyone else see new issues since upgrading?
More oddities with the new ROM
FYI: I also manually put my phone into Vibrate mode...it somehow went back into Automatic mode without my knowledge / intervention (which also disrupted a meeting I was in when my alarm went off). Not sure if this is because I was using ActiveSync at the time...but this new ROM is IMHO not nearly as good as the stock one.
ROM is official via Verizon Support Page
Looks like Verizon has made this official. If you go to the support page on Verizon.com and click on software updates, it takes you to:
http://www.pcdphones.com/phone_downloads.aspx?bid=136&cid=1&mid=364&carrier=Verizon Wireless
I took the plunge two days ago and upgaded to this new ROM. Wow, what an improvement! Maybe it's my imagination, but the device seems to run faster, the touch screen seems more accuate, expecially when typing and cell reception is better.
honestly...
and no disrespect to those who DID notice an improvement, but after flashing to this updated ROM and using my device as normal, i don't see any difference at all.
Sure, they fixed that issue when you first restore your sms database and it takes FOREVER to re-thread your messages...but now, i just see that they "fixed" it by stopping my restored messages from re-threading at all. so much for that..

For me, the Energy ROM is the best balance of performance and functionality. He provides several options and updates the ROMs frequently as new .cabs become available. The download links are in one of the first few posts in this thread:

Need help with some issues

Hi all,
I'm trying to figure out if I want to just return my captivate and go back to my iphone, or if there's a way to deal with this thing.
My issues are basically:
Browser perfomance is ****, to say the least. Panning and zooming on most sites is painfully bad - XDA worst than pretty much any other site out there. When I try to type in the browser, I'll hit 10 keys, and 3 will show up...a few seconds later another 2 will be entered...etc. Zooming is bad, I don't know why. Panning just looks jerky/non-fluid.
Bluetooth: I have an Acura with the tech package, so having bluetooth work is kinda a requirement. However, every time I try to do anything bluetooth related, the phone slows to a crawl. If I hit the home softkey, it takes 1-2 minutes for the phone to go home. I eventually have to pull the battery to reset.
Data: Sometimes, it just drops totally. I'm sitting still with 4-5 bars, and suddely the marketplace won't load...or XDA won't load...try a second or third time and suddenly it loads fine. Unsure if this is just the marketplace (and XDA forums) being unreliable, or if the phone's data connection is just THAT bad.
GPS: I did the fixes in the "hidden" settings (supl settings and whatnot) and I now get fixes much faster, but they're always off. I seem to always be on AGPS, and not ever getting sattelite fixes...that, or the settelite fixes are just really as bad as AGPS is.
Perf in general: not so hot. Some things work well, some things will crawl at times.
Facebook: no push notifications? What?
I'm on the latest SRE, and I can flash back to the stock kernel if that'll help...
But in general, my opinion after slightly over a week is that this just feels like when I still played with Linux a few years ago - a toy. Nothing for general consumption, nothing for someone who just wants it to work - and feel free to tell me I'm wrong, I'm still not totally decided and have another 3 weeks to return this...but I'm hard pressed to find a reason to keep using this instead of going back to my iphone. A wireless AP is amazing, but that's the only thing I keep coming back to...and who knows, a jailbroken iPhone might be capable of that?
Thanks for all the thelp!
RA
Are you using JF6 (the stock baseband that came with the phone)? because that one is miserably slow.
switch to JH3 and then flash SRE... it'll feel like an entirely different phone.
I felt the same way until I flashed several firmwares and applied different mods/lag fixes. You have to find what's right for you. It seems that Samsung may have skimped on the software side but they didn't hold back with hardware. With the new voodoo lag fix that's coming out soon, froyo, an official GPS fix, and promising android development for the Captivate, I'd say we're starting to realizing the true potential of this phone. I've never used bluetooth nor do I have any problems with data. You may have a bad phone... Perhaps you should exchange it for another and see if that remedies some problems? The ball is in your court but I could not bare to go back to the iPhone (I've been using it since it came out).
Wrong section of the captivate forum to be asking questions, theres a proper section for that..., about your issues most are plassebo, try flashing a i9000 rom and give it another try.

I'll give that a try then - I did just have to call ATT though to have them put me back onto the iPhone plan, since I'm doing a trip tomorrow and will want a working phone...I'll try flashing a few more things...but tbh, I keep reading about Froyo and GPS fixes...I saw posts about a GPS fix going out a month ago...when will it actually happen?

I totally agree with the earlier posts about trying other setups before giving up on it. I LOVE my setup. UCJH3 firmware, SREv1.2.1a, Tayutama's Lagfix4. All can be found on threads here.Do it step by step and you will see a HUGE difference. The only thing that will still suck, I think, is the GPS. I find mine very erratic. But everything else is great and almost no lag.
Most of your issues are non-existent on the stock ROM - so either you borked something while customizing or your phone has a hardware issue.
The browser should work without issue. GPS is broken, and none of the fixes do much so that we have to wait on Samsung.
The phone is in its infancy. Remember ios 2 on the 3g? Well apple learned a lot and there software is always polished. You may want to wait for the next android support phones. Apple did a good job this time around but the touch screen interface needs too many steps and the home screens are too cluttered I want to put icon any where putting them in groupings helps my eyes and brain navigate. I'll trade the gps and a few bugs for that any day. Phones are supposed to be intuitive, the iphone may be easy but I'll argue all day that is not intuitive. Android may be less easy but I can make it intuitive, it takes a little time and a few market apps though. That's why I chose this phone, but I don't knock iphone users, just the fanboys.
If you like to tinker ands it sounds like you do you may just get addicted to this thing.
The data problems may be do to the stock software, do a reflash of jh3, with the original I couldn't switch from wifi to edge or the other way around without killing the app and restarting it. I haven't noticed that problem lately with jh2

Facebook is badly broken on all Android phones I have ever used. There's a Link to an app called bloo here on XDA I think it's in Hero CDMA apps section. It has notifications and chat.
I found Bloo http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=679556
Yeah Facebook for android absolutely blows. Not just push notifications but the whole app. One of the worst apps I have on my phone. Like today, i had 2 notifications of ppl writing on my wall. When i go to notifications and click on the post to read the end of it, it opens in the browser??? Honestly??? Makes me back out, go to my own profile and then go to the wall. That's crap. Facebook for iPhone is better than the Facebook website, yet i would almost rather delete my Facebook account than use it on android.

How do you use your Gear and what did you miss? Devs Tizen or Android?

Hi guys,
i'm just interested in how do you guys use your gear and which features you guys miss. i would suggest that all of you put it in a Format like i'll Show you. So it's easier for devs and maybe Samsung to overview this thread statistically. Maybe some of them will get inspired. who knows....
(sorry for the formatting of the text. but i have to use Internet Explorer and it automatically fixes it in a bad way. but i do not really care...sorry about that. )
Reason why i bought my Galaxy Gear
I thought my note 3 is too big for pulling it out that often just to know which time it is. Plus the uneccessary times when nothing important beeped like a new thread or a uploaded YouTube video. I thought it would be handy to have again a good looking watch for using my phone less.
Cause we all know how often we pull it out to check the time and begin to senseless checking here, replying there...For me this worked. Plus i thought it would be pure awesomeness to control music with this.
How do your needs changed or which features you began to miss when you had it quite a time?
-Seeing and changing wifi state, mobile data and maybe more but that 2 are most important to me.
-Broswing through the Music library of the currently used musicplayer. Missing this one was the most dissapointing thing to me.
-I had moments where it would have been very good when i could have used the camera a a silent security camera without time limitations and keeping the Screen black. So the thief won't recognize that he got on tape. This would be good to for uneccessary Police violence too.
- i would like to read all incoming Messages with a Speed Reader app like spritz.
-General Spritz like speedreading Integration
-Better capability of short replys from the gear to Facebook Messenger and apps like that.
-Ofcourse Google Now Integration instead of useless S-Voice...
- Clockfonts! MOAR JUST MOAAARRR or direct font using Integration...oooor zooper on tizen....xD
Android or Tizen?
After using Tizen a few days i say i am surpised about Tizen. Ofcourse there are no apps not even a calculator. But the System is more responsive and the Batterylife actually is much better for my usage. On Saturday at 17:30 o'clock it was charged to 100% now it's at 15...Before it lasts a day. Batterylife is more than tripled for me. Plus the voice recognition for taking photos is there. I missed that.
I am hoping that it will be possible to convert android apps for tizen and that it will last not that long till this day Comes. Cause the batterylife and the better response of the system are good arguments to me for having Tizen on a featurewatch like this. Yes you read right. For me this is a Feature watch. It isn't smart at all imo.
But as soon as i am familiar with Tasker i am instantly back on Android at this state to workout the missing stuff... Android APK compatibility is a huge Thing for pushing Tizens usability an acceptance Forward imo.
I am a Developer an my thoughts About "Android or Tizen" are:
Especially your guys opinion is interesting to me.
I am a Developer and got inspired to (currently) work(ing) on
Do not Forget to mention if it is for Tizen or Android if it isn't already obvious.
Would you buy it again or do you regret?
I would buy it again. Cause in first place it was what i expected. I do not really Need 2 Smartphones i only want to do not pull out my phone so often a day. But not browsing through Music is a pain in the ass to me...i paid 200 Bucks. i think this was a ok Price. Look around what normal watches can you can pay much much for for just seeing the time. If the battery wasnt that small it is totally OK to me.
Now it's your turn ladies guys and devs.
If you do not want to answer all of that just take the ones you want and make it fat.
sorry for my english
cheers
i purchased mine after the gear two came out, specifically because i prefer android, and i was excited to try out the null rom - i installed null rom within hours of getting it in the mail. i initially had CARBONROM (aosp based) running on my s3, and i had to jump through some hoops to get it to work at all, even with a custom rom on it, and it spurred me to switch back to touchwiz (i also got a note 8.0 around the same time).
initially i just played with it all day, like killing it immediately (there's a good amount of novelty to having a fully functional computer on your wrist), then i started just using it as it was meant to be used, to check notifications and what not. ive just managed to get offline voice recognition working, as well as the google now launcher, and autovoice with google search api - i've only just gotten into tasker because, although i didn't find it too useful for just a phone, for the phone/gear combo i think a lot of cool stuff is possible.
so yeah, in a nutshell, android all day. with regular use, my battery lasts plenty long - i don't understand why anyone has a problem with one day, i have to plug all my other stuff in at night anyways, and i have outlets, chargers and cables to spare, so... i just plug it in at night. a day is fine.

Some possible problems and concerns about my new Note 5

Hello there,
I recently got a Note 5 and I am coming from a iphone 5s. This is my first android device ever and I am trying to get used to it. Thus, I noticed a few things that bothered me a little bit. When I scroll down faster than usual in apps like facebook, shaman, play store, whatsapp emoji menu etc. I get a laggy/jittery behaviour. Some people mentioned browsing as well but I think samsung browser seems decent, I feel no lag after it completely loads the page. I dont wanna believe that this device cant handle even Facebook app, maybe its a network related problem (I am sitting on a 10-25mb internet depending on where I am). I feel an extremely small stutter when I switch between menus for the first time in simple apps like dialer. I just pop it, for example when I first go to contacts and favourites, it kinda stutters for an extremely short time. I am aware such concerns might sound stupid but I am really not sure how it is supposed to be. Next, I am getting about 5-6 hours of SOT battery life. Location is on (wifi and cellular), android device manager is off, NFC off, wifi is always on where I dont have to use mobile data. I noticed that android system is draining the highest amount just after Screen. Usage was mostly Whatsapp, some facebook, phone settings (since I am trying to figure out stuff), a little bit of gaming and twitch. Brightness is auto and at about %30. I also got a geekbench score of Single Core: 1450ish and Multi Core: 4500ish.
Finally, I wonder if these concerns are expected and possible to solve. I did some reading but unfortunately never had chance to come across to a clarifying explanations to all these things. I thank you in advance for your time taken and effort reading this.

Being an ios and android user, what i can say is android can never(as of now) be as smooth as IOS. This is the truth as android is made to support all the variety of devices, however android users get more customisability more useful free apps and more control over the device they own. 5-6 hours of SOT is considered not bad, it really depends on personal usage i think it is acceptable, i guess the ability to see what your phone is using may be a good or bad thing. For what you know maybe on IOS the system actually drains as much or even more than android just that we are unable to view. hahaha :highfive: cheers not looking for flammers just my two cents.
Thanks for the input =) Hopefully this will be solved with a software update later. Still some confirmation/consultancy will be much appreciated, cheers

[P8 Lite ALE/L21 (alice)] : I got to tell you something..

I got to tell you something....
Since few years, my huawei follows me everywhere ; a P8 Lite given here or there, few years ago ; replacing my old S3 mini (L8190). From his scene or commercial name P8 Lite, or his full name ALE (for ‘Alice’) L21, released in 2015, unlike his older brother, the P8 Lite Prague, released two or three years later, with many differences.
That P8 Lite brought me several issues : touch screen going litterally in failure when the temperature goes over twenty degrees celcius, very fast, then I adopted my first decision from a long serie of precautions a bit abnormal or totally uncommon, regarding a smartphone owner.
Do you remember in James Bond, the scene of Roger Moore, using a camera to aime the necklage of his secretary (in the presence of Q), enjoying to zoom-in, zoom-out on the top of her clothes ? Well, replace the erotism by a screenlock of the huawei, and increase the zoom speed by x1000, and you will have the effect of a huawei in ‘normal/common’ situation, just after being stored in the twenty or thirty degrees celcius of a pocket, in a beautiful summer. Yess ! The screen works very well ; but for the touchscreen, it’s totally f**ked up : this is the first disapointment. The touchscreen is the culprit, to be activated everytime (like if fingers where active on it), even if.. nothing touches the phone. I did a video posted on xda, for the most curious...
For the touchscreen issue while overheating, the only way I found was to remove the rear plastic at the back of the phone itself : it let the electronic chip and battery directly like sticked to the silicon case. I didnt found anything better, but it’s still better than salvage restart the phone, and wait five long minutes (android 6) to get system started and ready.
But the one of my permanently abandon of playstore, and his 500MB demanded to install a 10MB (!!) app, will make me definitely leave google services, on daily life. Wah ! Im among the lefters of gafamnt. Well, it’s okay for me (even better) Going to Lineage (with ggleapps, then, ouf ! Without..) will not bring only better experience, at least not that one..
Since 2020 and the crisis, I start to study with high motivation the mobiles cellphones world : arm plateforms, xda forum (highly better than frenchs ones), theorical lessons and learning, so. Practical side, too : the recovery mode, twrp, then lienage, his ancester cyanogen, etc.. It will take me about a year to be skilled and well understand, at least the advanced/intermediaite level, to understand those devices. But in the meantime, with lienageos, others problems came..the PINlock keyboard, whom freezes one time over ten under lineage, : you ush on the touch of the keyboard to type the code, but it stays as an "animated pushed touch", an nothing reacts anymore on the screen. At all. It will come to my bigger misadventure..
Just to be more accurate : a year after ,I use lienage 14, perfect release for this device : not too recent, so it's not running slow, but not too old, so all my favourites apps runs well. And I use the encryption feature, only available on lineageos (never stock rom, imho), who doesnt permits to the little smartass whom could steal my phone, to do not siphon all my data using the recovery/twrp, whom doesnt care about pin at android lock screen, but not in case of.... encryption. Wise precaution, logical, in 2022, after this rase awareness about cyberdefence, crowned by the symbolic pegasus affair. Last information : my phone is powered off every evening, powered up every morning, since my first smartphone (iphone), and I always did like this ; it's a kind of prudence I have, my alarm clock has always been (and will ever be) on a second classic plastic phone, like old 3310 : two months of autonomy, that's something.
So after those "one more thing" information, the following is more.. crusty.
So in beginning of 2023, after had let my next phone few days away, the time of the official of lineageos 20 ,aka android 13, from AOSP (I didnt wanted to use it immediately, to avoid the export/import data with a clean install of lineageos 20), because it was supposed to be released in 2023, jan or feb (it has been the case, but not official yet)
In january 2023, two weeks before this misadventure happened, I took the precaution to export and import those data to my new smartphone : not with success, some setings where proper to the lineageos 14 release, and failed. As a good half-nerd, I procrastinate. Yes, that happens.
Until that day of January, Im outside, trying to take a picture... a long path of issues, a long descend to technology hell... I get out my phone. I make swiping from right to left, to hand the photo recorder app, as the feature allows it. The bug allows also that the screen makes a little "flash" on a blank screen for few seconds, before going back to suspend ; Im thinking that it happens, it will be better by unlocking manually the phone by pin, then taking the camera app, basta.
Im wrong : I try to unlock the phone, Bim! keyboard bug. Not any key works. Nothing else to do than restart, because the phone is in the coma, means doesnt reacts anymore. Only solution regarding keyboard bug. But I refuse to let it like that, to drain the battery while cant do anyhing with the phone. I start to push ten seconds on the power button, to do a salvage reboot.
Then Bim! (bis) : nothing. Nothing happens, I figured out few days ago, with the volume up/down buttons, that power button too had a little problem. To make it working, it's necessary to push a bit on the side of the phone, at the buttons level. Few days ago, it was working. Here, zero, nada, more than twenty minutes to make it react, that power button wants to stay in the coma, a bit like the keyboard. After half an hour, my patiency is almost to throw the phone to a bloc of concrete not far of here. But I dont, regrets will come then, per thousand. So I let things like this, at that time. I will handle that problem at home.
I come back home. I finally made the powerbutton pushing : I ask it to poweroff. New bug, it happens sometimes : the "powering off" popup shows, but undefinitely. It happens sometimes. But was solved by ten seconds on the power button. I finally connect it to USB, do a "adb rebootbootloader". Im thinking by restarting it, it will make his memory in a better way. I wasnt expecting being taken by the word.
All users of lienageos whom knows the encypted lock screen at the very beginning of lienage/android starting (even, before it), knows well the thing : impossible to do anything (excepted maybe emergency calls) when the encrypted pin lock code is not entered. A little soft "ring" reminds it to you, every five or ten seconds, after five minutes of inactivity.
So I did the adb thing to reboot the device. You see where Im trying to go? When command is validated, the device immediately restarts ; due to an emotionnal precaution, and also because this device is tiring me a lot, I let it at the top of a little furniture, with the idea it will let it being forgotten for the rest of the evening. That dumb electronic device took it at the accurate word :
between the tea and a little part of reading, my brainds remind me something : this dummby of huawei didnt asked me yet the encryped lock code, with this little ringer, whom never stops until correct code is entered.
Very surprising.. after few moments. Im really worried, after long minutes of waiting.. Why doesnt it screams at me to get this code, to permit it to start android?
Im going close of the device.. Horror! I see the assistant of first lienageos installation. That thing totally forgotten all the data !
After few hours, I calculate my losses :
two weeks of precious exchanges of sms/calls, with numbers for some of them, I will have difficulties to retrieve them..
signal, telegram and jabber (conversations/quicksy), are just definitely gone. the only rescued data? it's the backup made two weeks ago. It permits me to retrieve some data ; but not from isntant messaging, forever gone.. RIP, and without me, huawei.
Since that day, I do everything I could to get my data backed up withing the 24hrs : cloud (EU) storage, daily SMS backup, and especially I limit the number of used apps, to avoid future problems. I remember my maxim : the phone is the second object the most volatile of daily life, just after the home/car keys! And I dont even talk about the drained battery, the bugged operating system whom doesnt starts, nor the forgotten or stolen device.. A long quest to secure my data, starting by the crédo of backups : 3, 2, 1...
Laureates for photos backups would be pcloud, koofr and jottacloud, whom permitted my to find back photos from last hours (and mms received) before the drama. For the rest, memory will be honoured by that essay.
I never use banking application. Cause I disagree of linking a extremely volatile device with money
I use wifi when available, cellular data about less than an hour a day (or even quart of hour per day).
I manually switch it off/on. Cellular/mobile data eats a LOT of battery/energy (battery capacity
divided by 3 minimum)
I use :
newpipe (for yt) / maps.me (for offline maps) / vlc / qksms / fdroid/aurora / carnet / muzei / pdf-
epub reader / davx2 / foldersync / smsbackup&restorek9mail/fairemail / protonmail/vpn
firefox focus / firefox / fennec / torbrowser
linphone / conversations/quicksy (snikket/siskin for ios) / signal/telegram
nextcloud/pcloud/koofr/jottacloud
I do not have, and will never have google apps again (I never use ggle services – at all)
