Will the bionic have GSM capabilities? - Motorola Droid Bionic

i've done some googling around and a website said that motorola has registered the "bionic" name in europe...which could mean a GSM Motorola Bionic phone
would there be one?
reason is the new bionic is looking quite tasty if any of you guys have seen the article up on android police's site
-4.5" QHD screen
-1750mah battery
-android 2.3.4
-new motoblur that looks pretty cool IMHO
-dual core
-no mention of RAM capacity
-8MP shooter with LED flash and a front facing camera (no mention of MP)

[Q] Milestone: limited color display abilities?

Lately I've noticed that my Milestone has some problems with displaying colors.
I have attached the screenshot of my home, where you can see terrible transitions between similar hues.
lso, there is wallpaper file attached, which seems to be okay to me.
Is it common with those screens or it's just my Milestone?
my milestone does the same :/ could it be that it does not have 16 million colors?
24 bit images on a 16 bit display will cause the banding you see.

i find it weird that no reviews mentions this or even the specifications sheet, :/ the desire has an 24 bit display?
That's what I thought, pretty much.
Still, it being not mentioned is strange, as it seems to be fairly serious issue. Unless it's possible to convert images with no quality loss visible on the screen.
The proper term is dither, in cyanogen you can enable surface dithering in cyanogen mod settings > performance which should improve image quality at the cost of performance. Not sure about other roms.

im curious to know about the display used in the droid 2 and droid x, the htc desire, are they using a 24 bit display now?
The Droid/Milestone does have a 24-bit display: http://www.displaymate.com/Motorola_Droid_ShootOut.htm
In fact, the Droid 2 uses the same LCD.
That gradient problem with your image is probably caused by several problems:
1. The picture is not a true 24-bit image.
2. Google's Gallery is limited to 16-bit!
The Milestone/Droid has one of the finest LCDs on the market, and if it had not been so expensive when it was first released in Canada ($600!), I would have bought it in a heartbeat, despite the locked bootloader.
EDIT: I've just examined the photo on my 24-bit Aquos, and it looks perfectly smooth, so the problem is being caused by Android 2.1. FroYo's Gallery is also limited to 16-bit.
So what gallery could I use to put wallpapers on?
Flikie does pretty much the same, as it uses Froyo gallery.
Well, it seems that application named Wallpaper Set and Save (find it in market, it's free) is the easy way out.
This app lets you set the 24-bit wallpaper keeping the desired quality, more or less.
Though, it may make Launcher Pro FC a couple of times right after setting the new wallpaper, then it works flawlessly.

if the 16 bit problem is androids fault how could google not fix this in 2.2? so thats why a lot of of phones use a different gallery than the stock, im surprised this isnt mentioned more often

Yeah, I agree. Apparently, Samsung's Galaxy S Gallery is a bit better. Not truly 24-bit, but the Galaxy S adds improved dithering. The Galaxy S, with all of the hype about SAMOLED, is not even a real 24-bit display You Milestone/Droid/Droid 2 folks have the best Android screen, IMO.

Increase Speaker Output via ROM?

Two things that were holding me back from getting a Vivid:
-Operation speed (laggy compared to Skyrocket/Atrix 2)
-Speaker volume (poor, especially compared to Skyrocket/Atrix 2)
Now that it's unlocked, (thanks for doing the right thing, HTC!) the first quibble will be moot. The question is how likely will the second be corrected by built-in ROM fixes? I already seen one that features "extended volume." Does this mean increased speaker output? Is this a common feature? (new to ROMs) For past Inspire owners, did the ROMs for it commonly feature increased speaker volume? (owned it briefly, same complaint)
I have the htc inspire and i had the low volume output when it was stock but with root and custom rom volume was not an issue anymore. Looking to get the vivid shortly and and with root and custom rom it should fix volume issue as well i hope.

Thank you! I figured that current/past Inspire owners would have input on the subject!
I know the average user probably doesn't use the speaker as much as I do so I didn't know how much of a concern it was for the dev community. It doesn't have to be great quality but it does have to be audible, something that I've found HTC phones (and others) lack. Samsung and Motorola seem to have their stuff together in this department. In fact, I like or am tolerant to everything about the Skyrocket/GSII except for that horrible AMOLED display... but that's a huge feature to consider a downside. I also enjoyed using the Atrix 2 quite a bit as it seemingly doesn't do anything wrong but its display certainly lacks the "wow" factor of the Vivid's and it lacks features that I like such as quick settings in the notification bar. Worse yet, I'm reading about software bugs that, for me, would be maddening. Since it's locked down for the foreseeable future with what's seemingly minimal dev interest at the moment it seems like any complaints would be there at least for a while.
As it stands, I think the only lackluster caveat that the Vivid will ultimately be stuck with will be mic quality during video recording. (sounds horrible in camera tests and is constantly bashed in reviews) I take pics but don't do much with video so I'm fine with this. Ultimately, it's that beautiful screen and solid build quality/heft that's attracting me to the handset. The only other screen that has impressed me as much belongs to the Rezound. However, while the Rezound's extra resolution is no doubt the catalyst for its slight increase in clarity over the Vivid's, color saturation/contrast is a dead heat to my eyes while the latter's white balance seems to be more neutral. After spending more time with the Rezound, it almost looks like a bit of blue was added to HTC's typically neutral grayscale no doubt because the masses perceive it as "brighter" or more "vibrant." Of course this could have just represented the normal variation from handset to handset, but I hope this doesn't begin a trend for HTC as, to me, their displays have always been fairly videophile friendly.

Though I agree this is an important piece of information (but not really a valid excuse for the ICS update to take so long), this should have been posted in the ICS 4.0 discussion thread.

I don't really see why you guys are giving the poster such a bad time for this, the post made by galaxyfitankit (see post #3 in this thread) makes me want to drown myself. In my own pee. It's almost like he doesn't know what the "Enter" key does.
Eventhough the info here is not very original, it's posted in a more readable way
Also, galaxyfitankit's post was #4498 in the ICS thread, who the hell is going to browse through all these posts just to find it? So yeah...

Ok it's huge update, but why they doesn't deliver a major update with all but quick memo? Maybe they so can release another one with quick memo when it's ready and maybe also they can check more directly how the update is working and doing the correction for some bugs that can come out...
My opinion is a major ics update, and then another minor with quick memo... Just to let us fell better with their past mistakes...

Camera after KitKat?

Hello Everyone,
After hearing of the cyber monday deal, I've decided to make the switch from my Nexus 4 to the Moto X. KitKat and active notifications --not to mention the amazing battery life I've been hearing about-- have been enticing me for weeks. Now that I can feasibly get it off contract, I'm gonna go ahead and pull the trigger.
My one and only reservation is the camera. I've heard some bad stuff to be sure; however, I've also read somewhere that things have gotten considerably better after an update (kitkat, perhaps?). I also read that there was a new isolated motorola camera app released through the play store recently. Has the camera IQ improved since launch? Not concerned about the app functionality itself --- rather wondering if the image output is more consistent, if the software correction is better, etc.
Thanks in advance! Can't wait to get one of these things...
Got my answer...
If any of the some 67 people who viewed my post are interested in the same question, MKBHD's new Nexus 5/Moto X comparison video sheds some light:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMFLeoDx6J4
short answer for those who don't care to watch it: yes, the camera has been much improved by the new camera update app.
Well, looks like I'm going to have a Moto X soon.
Good video, thanks for posting it. The camera demo for the Moto X was not KitKat. The KitKat version shows a focus/exposure "recticle" in the view finder (also, the status bar close up still had the blue JB icons). That is one of my favorite improvements to the camera. The JB Moto X camera did not have an exposure control, the KitKat version does. Overall the pictures are better in KK on the Moto X.

If you were asking about 4 GB variant, perhaps there would be some numbers instead of question marks. And although the phones act quite similarly with different amount of RAM, it seems that the senior member "jhedfors" believes otherwise, making thus advicing pretty much pointless as the 6 GB version is quite a rare one.
Battery 8/10 but on standby it looses about 4% over night.
Display 7/10 u have to play around with the color mode settings in display to get it to your liking
Development 5/10. Doesn't seem like there will be much development in a years time.
Camera 5/10 the pics are ok at best.
Heating 10/10 it really keeps it's cool
I haven't used the phone yet but I can probably say this much. This is for the XT1900-1.
Development: 7/10 - not the biggest thriving community around but there were a number of roms that people are enjoying that came out within the last for months for pie including

To my knowledge, VoLTE should be working with custom roms but wifi calling will not (wifi calling is only on T-Mobile BTW).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The other part of development is the GCam app, which currently there are a number of ports for this phone as there is no single best app yet.
Recently, the development teams have been able to enable the wide angle lens, but there are a number of bugs to still iron out.
Example One: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x4/how-to/guide-x4-camera-gcam-hdr-night-sight-t3874674
