Why the incredible s? - HTC Incredible S

Hey guys I'm not meaning to troll at all im just very curious as to the motive of this phone or what is exactly different from the original incredible (besides bands) that makes it worth the cost of a recent new phone. If I remember right both this and the incredible 2 have similar processor speed and slightly different screen size and ffc? Are these correct? Sorry and if I'm missing something please correct me. If you consider me being a jack ace feel free to ignore this.

If I remember it right, Incredible S and Incredible 2 are essentially the same phone but they're for different 3G networks.
Basically Incredible S is a modified version of Desire HD with more compact screen and better battery life.

Disappointment

XDA's vote for the best smartphone of 2011 is here! Sadly, the Incredible S wasn't in the list, nor any other single-core phones which came out this year.
Is any one else disappointed in this?
Of course, dual-core phones have more raw power under the hood, but does it really make them that much better? Physical build quality is an important aspect to take into consideration as well. Furthermore, as far as the single-core phones go, I personally believe that the Incredible S deserves some merit as one of (if not the) best.

My phone is better than any damn single core phone out there....hell I would even dare to say that this is the best single core phone HTC ever built(android of course )

I'm happy with the phone I have, but to be honest I wouldn't rate it as phone of the year. There have been too many newer, faster phones since which have all its features and more.
Incredible S is a very good phone, much underrated

Underrated is the right word. It's a shame because of the timing of its release it got drowned by the media with HTC's own Sensation...

and sometimes misleading.
have you ever considered how many people actually vote and what percentage of people are voting for a phone they already have while other phone owners dont even vote.
i never rely on polls.
eyah.. really disappointment/
I am happy with my inc s but i'd swap it instantly for a sensation xe

Incredible S is the best single core phone HTC has ever made. I wouldn't expect the Incredible S to beat out a dual core phone for phone of the year. If there was a poll for the best single core phone the winner will either be the Incredible S or Nexus S. Devs on Xda love the Nexus S.

vivid a step up?

So im getting a vivid thursday in a trade on here and i was wondering is it going to be a major stepup from my infuse? Im running a 2.3.6 gingerbread rom on it.
Oh yeah, massive step up from the infuse. Screen will probably be about the same, same size, vivid's screen res is hgher, but the infuse has no pentile so it'll be about the same there. As far as hardware though you got 2 cores, and twice the ram too, and you got Android 4.03. Also sense > touchwiz, and LTE is faster than HSPA+ which is what the infuse has.
Overall the infuse is really just an overclocked captivate with a nicer screen, and Captivate is what i upgraded from. I definitly like the vivid better, but I will warn you on one thing, if you like putting custom roms on, its a little bit more difficult. Not extremely difficult, but its different put it that way.
thanks man. Yea i took the same upgrade from a captivate to a infuse. I aint too worried about flashing roms as i use to run android and ubuntu on my rhodium ;p.
Yeah I've left my vivid stock, I got my flyer to mess with roms and such on

What up Sean lol...me and you both jumped the infuse ship
Vivid is defintly a step up...a lot smoother I think...don't have an LTE sim so I can't use LTE...really my only complaint is the micro USB port...why did HTC put that in the most awkward spot??? It makes the phone so awkward to use when charging....(its right on the bottom left)
Also I miss the superamoled screen...I know some people don't like superamoled...but I guess I do...or I'm just used to it lol...this screen is already starting to grow on me though...

Yeah...they are the same screen size but the vivid does seem thinner (screen size)...I just figured it was because I did not have a case on the vivid and I was used to a case...but it is possible that maybe the infuse/skyrocket is wider and less tall, while the vivid is taller and thinner...even.my friends thought the vivid was smaller...

When I was on Sprint I had the Evo 4G and upgraded to the Evo 3D. Both 4.3 in screens but the screen imon the 3D wasnt as wide but was a tad taller then the 4G. I found out it was because like the Vivid, the 3D has an qhd display as to where the 4G didn't. The high quality qhd display is what makes it skinnier and taller. And since the skyrocket and Vivid have to different types of displays that is why they seem different in size even though they are both 4.5 inch screens.

What new android phone should I get?

Hey guys, pretty straight forward.
Just to let you know, I really don't want an HTC one x, or any other phone with poor battery life.
Things that matter:
Screen size: 4in+
Processor
Camera quality
HARDWARE in general
Overall feel of the phone in your hand
I would prefer the least amount of plastic on the phone as possible.
Thanks guys

Plastic is a nice thing....
Do you have a carrier preference? Are you wanting to stay with VZW?
HTC EVO 4G LTE.
Outstanding battery life.
16GB internal storage and a micro sd slot.
Blazing fast processor.
It feels solid as a rock.
It has the best screen of any phone I have ever used, 4.7 inch.
The camera on this phone is phenomenal. Here is a thread with pics from it.
All in all this is the best phone I have ever owned.
The evo 4G is very intriguing.
As far as carrier, I don't care at all.
So far the phones in the race are:
Sony xperia ion
HTC evo 4g
Samsung galaxy s3
These are just so far. Feel free to offer any handset as a suggestion. I'll put up a poll when I get into the preliminaries.

It has a 1080 p screen so everything would be awesome

I'm jelly of ya'll that have more than one carrier with service in your area.
Does the Nexus not even get a honorable mention simply because it gets the newest Android versions before any other phones? I agree that there is better hardware on the market, but I love showing off all the new features before anyone else gets them. My buddy just posted on fb how he got ICS on his RAZR, I replied "It can't do a barrel roll." Its fun to be smug about firmware lol.
I got my hands on a SGSIII and I liked it allot, big good looking screen, felt good in my hand, fast and smooth. I rooted it and gave it back to my buddy. Plus the Galaxy S phones have good development so you wont be waiting too much longer than Nexus for custom ROMs and such..
The nexus was in the running, but the camera threw it out for me.
Sent from my R800x using xda app-developers app
If you want to be certain you'll get 1st party updates without waiting them definitely Galaxy Nexus. The camera, however, isn't too good.
Personal suggestion is S2. I haven't found one con from this phone, it's fast,I like its screen,a lot of development here, camera is excellent. It also packs a 1 6GB flash memory and a micro SD slot.

Vivid dev is struggling right now due to some massive infighting, I wouldn't go there,
OneX is not an upgrade to me with non-removable battery and no SD slot.
Heard pros and cons on the S3, guy at work has one and it didn't feel as bad on the "cheap plastic" feel I heard described previously, I would try it for myself if I was about to switch.
S3... development is the fastest i've ever seen for any device, but you'll have to deal with overcrowded forums, and a little hostility here and there... yea its a plastic phone, but feels solid, has nice weight to it, and feels even better with a case on it...
One X

[Q] Is the HTC one a great phone for gaming?

This might sound crazy, but I'm wanting to sell my gaming pc to get a nice gaming phone. I had 2 phones in mind, the HTC one or the galaxy s4. Now I know the galaxy s4 is faster cause of the 1.9ghz quad. But for a fact its not better. Because of the HTC one having the front speakers and the metal body and with HTC sense I just love it. Anyway my main question is will the HTC one keep up with games for awhile cause now the nexus 5 is coming out and the note 3 is already here. Also if I get the HTC one which one would be the easiest to s-off. There are a lot of companys that have it. I won't be activating the phone but I will be wanting to s off and unlock..etc. At the moment I have the HTC evo 3d and its good. But mobile gaming is going to get really nice and I'm on my phone much more than my pc anyway. So yeah..the HTC one is what I'm aiming toward but just for some reason i am not sure. Last thing is-will I be able to push the HTC one a lot more with over clocking the GPU and CPU? I watched a video and the highest they got was 1.9ghz cpu if stock is 1.7 why does it mess up only at 1.9? I was hoping at least 2.3ghz to sorta be up to par with the note 3. Anyway I know this phone is still a beast without overclocking if its to much of a hassle for it. Thanks for any help I get. You will be thanked.

HTC is still a top tier phone. It is rootable and easy to s-off. If you install a custom rom and kernel, you can over clock the cpu and gpu up to it's maximum for gaming. But in doing so the battery life will be horrible and the phone will heat up quickly (because of it's metal body). I would recommend this phone 100%.

You can overclock it to 2.3ghz... but the benefit is only extremly minimal! You burn through your battery life.. not the life time for this one cycle.. you **** up your battery if it gets too hot for a longer period of time.. so my advice.. overclock it only to 1.9 if you really want to then you should be good to go
And what about over clocking the GPU could it be about the same speed as the adreno 330?? Also should I wait for the nexus 5?

well it does have the next step over in processing power, and should technically be better at what you want it for, but i still think that the htc one as a whole better package even with the "older" 600 is still a powerhouse that should hold up for a good amount of time into the future.
get the htc one. the s4 may be clocked faster but also has tons of bloatware preinstalled.
Thanks guys. Heres another thing. Please tell me why the HTC one max is using the same parts as the HTC one? It makes no sense..imagine if it had the snapdragon 800 and the adreno 330. That would be the best phone ever!!! But only difference I saw was the screen size and the fingerprint reader (on the back of the phone???)

I say the galaxy s4 cos gaming feels much more stable than the HTC. The amount of customisability on the s4 surpasses the HTC by miles and the s4 is less likely to crash every app you have when over clocked.

I do agree that the s4 is nice and installing custom ROMs will fix the bloatware problem. But one fact is, the HTC one is better than any other smartphone as of now simply because of the front speakers. When you are playing a game you actually feel like you are in it. But god.....I wish the one max was improved performance wise still.....
